I don't particularly like solo threads, but...doing a short one to get a grip on Red Rats personality and writing, and also add more background to her, namely finding the Soviet "Safe House" and making it her own. A few crazed Soviet robots may be lurking inside... Thread in question

March 3rd, 2014, late evening The air of Freedom City had the crisp snap taken out of by this time of year, but was still cool, especially at night. Around Greenback, with its crumbling disused warehouses and rusted disused traintracks, it had a certain dusty quality to it. And every so often, Noemi came across the odours of the homeless, a sharp pang of an impromptu latrine. Greenback was home to a number of Freedom Cities homeless. The old bricks, mortar, steel, and wood providing shelter at the risk of a collapsed roof. Every now and again she could a fire in the distance, as the vagrants huddled around to keep warm and tell stories. Safehouse detected. Proceed to building "Grin and Bear It". She didn't hear the words. She saw them. A print out only she could see, the white letters appearing before her. Inside her head there resided a computer. "Slave" it was called, but she wondered exactly to whom it was enslaved. Her eyes were not her own. Bright green and pretty they may have been, but completely artificial. Through them, the text of Slave was printed. She just thanked the fates that the Soviet scientists who designed Slave and put it in her chose text rather than a voice. "Grin and Bear it" must have been an old Russian trading shop, or warehouse. It was half derelict now, with a patchwork roof and big holes where bricks had caved in. She approached cautiously. It was dark, but her eyes could see well enough by starlight. Inside, Grin and Bear it was rotted and green. She saw a number of old Russian tourist tat, such as Polka Dolls and a number of tattered doll Bears with a fierce grin. The vodka bottles had been pillaged and consumed decades ago, no doubt but alcoholic scavengers. A bottle of vodka would keep the cold out for a day, maybe two. She saw embers, still warm, glowing in one corner. Who was it? As she walked closer, she heard the rustling of blankets and trash...

Hi folks, I have been wanting to use an old restautant/gambling joint called the High Steaks (yes, I know, pun) again, and am contemplating running a thread there. Any interest? Its going to be about high society, secret IDs, card cheats, super powered gamblers, thugs beating you up to drop out of the game, and a priceless Daka Crystal. A bit of Casino Royale, lots of socialising, cheating, and deception, and of course some strange Daka empowerement madness at the end! Will be a slow burner, probably, but depends on how it goes and what you do. 3 PCs tops (if there is any interest at all).

That a hit, damage 7 effect due to gun fatigue, and a DC 22 Toughness ROll. One the minion could not possibly make, so knocked out (I presume) Post away!
-
NO damage... Which means that Bloodline is up!

"Lead on" said Rene. He loved books. Old, crusty, dusty ones. Books where the story had soaked into the pages as much as the ink. With crispness, with fur, with that distinctive smell that could only come from a book. He was an artist, not a writer. But he could only help but love the stories that both contained. "Glamour, eh? I make it a rule to find Glamour utterly charming and utterly untrustworthy. Born of mercury and light, and ephemeral as both. But then, I live in the floating world. Nothing is permanent, but for the moment we live in" he said, rambling slightly. His hands brushed some old books, old, and wonderful. Even the feel of them was beautiful. "But such delicacies will attract many eyes. And words themselves, won'drous though they be, have a power, be it mundane or extraordinary. This shop has gravity. What shall it pull? What will float to and from its magnetic embrace?"

GM Back at Breakwood... The drive back was hell. It was dark, and Cord was even more tired than Jay. It looked like he had taken a dose of tranquilizer himself. "When I get back, I'm going to demand a month long holiday. Maybe Tahiti. I have heard its a magical place" He slipped into sleep, and slipped off the road, on at least three occasions, and once into a tree. There was an awful moment when the pair thought the car was busted. But it limped on, although there was a funny clanging noise from the engine that set nerves on edge. When they finally got back to Breakwood, Captain Torson was waiting, with two deputies. The stout sherriff looked grumpy, and was fingering his belt and revolver out of irritation. It was the middle of the night, after all. "What the hell ya got here?" he gruffed as the pair pulled up. "You been hunting people? Got yourself a prize, I see...well what the hell ya going to do with him?" he asked, tired and with little patience.

recruitment Threadening.... the Threadening...
Supercape replied to TheAbsurdist's topic in Archives
The Red Rat is signing up to the Red Rat thread....what? I know its a shocker.... As for the Survival / Plane thread. I have always wanted to do one of those myself. In fact, I did with Ari a few years back! Id love to be in it, but no great Character fit!. Although I would have thought Steam and Blakely would be an interesting couple in th e jungle, dishing out tea for everyone. Finally, you may want to run the last Underground Ring past Thev as she has been involved in that scene (see if any cross fertilization). On that front, the Bloody Mess may be a good fit. -
Sunset out. The Red Rat in.

GM The barnacles may have been blistering but so was the awesome power of Temperance. It was like a storm wave, crunching and blasting over the barnacles, causing cracks and a fine dust of sea shells to reach the air. The ghastly things put up a fight though. Undulating and grouping, moving with the water rather than against it. And barnacles had plenty of experience to face powerful waters. That said, it was too much for Wave-Eyes new friends...they splintered and shattered, and fell off Wave Eye like the sounds of pebbles falling into water. He was free. "Hey man! What about me?" screamed Sammy, still bound tight. Some of the horrors were crawling over his nose, encrusting him more and more. "I'm gonnna die! I'm gonna die! Not like this! If I die! I'm going to sue you! See you in court!" he wailed, incoherent with fear.

Yeah, ummmm....right! So for the sake of, you know, reasonable physics, and London skyline (which can be high in the centre), lets say that the Osprey notices the Tylurran at a distance of 1000' (yeah, I know technically it would be 2400' but...worth with me people! its still awesome megavision!) So the T is flying at 440' Round. Lets call it that the Osprey can speak to Catalyst. So you can take your shot when you feel like it Roo... and the T will notice you guys at a distance of (as you are hiding rather than flying I will give him a DC 10 to notice you)...blah blah blah...handwavium, T has extended vision, a distance of 500' As Catalyst has ranged attacks, you have a round when he is at 1000', A round when he is at 560', then next round he will be at 120' and notice you. He is flat footed till then, and you have the standard surprise attack bonus (+2), and of course you may wish to aim (for +2) one round.

GM "We got him! We got him!" These two men looked more keen than the amateurs Bloodline disposed of back in the crumbling tunnels they had first found him. Military, or ex-military. And trigger happy. "Sorry, chum, but we got a job to do" the other said, apologising to Filth, who was white with fear. Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Bullets whizzed, the pair trying to aim past Filth, and fortunately missing the young man. Sparks flew off the walls, as richoceed bullets thundered around Filth's lair. Even in the dim light, with Bloodlines uncanny senses, he could see the glint of the bullets. Not unprepared, these hunters. That dull glint....that...smell.... Silver!
-
1d20+1=15 For the Hunters (2 Minions, ex-soldiers) They are usingstandard handguns, silver bullets. Which means damage is doubled to a damage 6 effect But will they hit? First off, its partial cover, so a +4 defence. 1d20+5=17, 1d20+5=23 So one bullet hits (DC 22), The other Misses, and just misses Filth too. Overall that makes a DC 21 Toughness save for Bloodline, and then he is up! The notice roll is good....Bloodline can hear some more hunters, probably three, running to the scene, eta 2 rounds.
-
Yep, he is out!
-
Thats great. Post that away! For reference, it will be a damage 20 explosion so you may want to roll toughness in preparation!
-
1d20+7=24 A mexican stand off! (kinda) Essentially you and the hunters have partial cover to each other, that partial cover being Filth! Could I have initiative roll? And for that matter a notice (Hearing) roll?

...Perdition? or, more likely, that snotty nosed kid....? "No, I'm fine doctor, no allergies, no regular medications" Of course, with the pains she got from her leg, she had irregular medication, but no need to let the man in the white coat know that. Especially as she was erratic on them. Besides, what with a broken leg and bruises, her neurological pains were blissfully quiet. "All ready to be plastered up, or whatever you do. But I was wondering, I am worried about my friend" she lied. "How is he? DO you think I could visit him?" It was pretty foolhardy to get into another scrape whilst she was in a wheelchair, but it had been a pretty foolhardy twenty four hours. Wherever she turned, things just got worse. Might as well run with it, she figured.
-
THat will certainly hit the first two! 1d20+5=11, 1d20+5=24 Its a Damage 9 effect, so the save is 24. Wave=-Eye is totally free, and Glamazon still entangled.

GM Hazard put her revolver in its holster, and casually stepped over Dancia. And stopped. Slowly, she turned round, and prodded her with a heavy boot. "Should have worked faster..." she said, softly, puzzled. She drew her gun out again, and studied it, even shook it. No click, no crunch, no problem. She looked down the barrel. There was another pause. Hazard turned and leant into Daskia's face. Her breathing was laboured, shallow, and bubbled. But it was masked by the constant in-out hiss of the mechanical respirator she wore, complete with puffs of gas coming from either side of her heavy mask. Overall, Hazard looked like a knight, in an armoured hazmat suit. On closer inspection, Daskia could see it was advanced. Armoured, plated, with gauntlets that appeared to have power assistance. "Who are you? Is this some kind of trick?" she hissed. If it was (and it was), Hazard was not being very careful about it, leaning right in to study Daskia's helmet and face. She must have been smart to work down here with Singh, but she had no sense...or was it too much confidence?
-
Throw me another Intimidate Roll, Rob. However, given the circumstances I'm giving a +5 situational bonus to the hunters due to position, and fervour!
-
You can use Super Strength to apply to breaking objects, but at that power, either will do! Your call to narate...
-
Any takers? Super Spy, Taxi Driver, Defender of Superior Soviet Union, and Radiation hater... Looking for some threads, players, and GMs!

Vignette: Origin Story Cold. It was always cold, when she went to sleep. It was always cold when she woke up. Then, slowly, inch by inch, warmer. It was not an easy thing, waking up from cryo-sleep. Few could do it. She could. Noemi VonNeuman, also known as the Red Rat, could adapt to nearly anything. How many years had it been this time? How many winters and summers had passed since they last put her to sleep? She could never tell. Sometimes it was but months, sometimes a decade. As it grew warmer, she felt herself drift into wakefulness and clarity. The dim memories of winters with her parents faded, and reality sunk in. Her parents were dead, long gone. She was now an agent of the Soviet Union, awoken again for some mission. The computer attached to her skull woke up to. If it ever truly went to sleep. She saw the text scrolling in her eyes. Even her eyes were not her own. Bright and green they might be, but totally artificial. Linked to Slave, the computer system in her head. A gift from the glorious Soviet Union. Cryostasis terminated: Stand by for Orders. The usual mechanical, lifeless message she got every time. ….Stand by.... What was this? Something new? No briefing available. Unable to contact. Standby….Standby…. She could almost persuade herself that Slave was agitated. The crystal ice melted, and her vision cleared. Then, voices, faint at first then louder. “Gods! She is still alive! Get a medical team here, now!†As the final ice melted from her, she saw the speakers. Five of them, wearing uniforms she did not recognise at first. Familiar, familiar, but different… UNISON? The style had changed, but the colours and motif were there. Yes, it must be UNISON. She had had a few shakes with them, when the Soviet Unison operated her in more tricky situations. How long has she been out? She sat up, still groggy. “Keep still, ma’am! You have just come out from cryogenic stasis! We have a medical team en route!†Full operation restored. No standing Orders. Await further Instruction…Await further instruction came slaves readout. She shook her head. “I’m fine, don’t worry…I’m fine. Where are we? What year is this?†The UNISON agents looked at each other. “You are in Berlin, Ma’am. And its 2014†2014??? She was last active in 1988…that made over twenty five years! What had happened? She remembered the situation in 1988. Things were getting difficult, the Soviet Union was beginning to crack, and the clandestine operations of the KGB were getting defensive, scared, and corrupt. It was a nasty time. She looked around the room. Same downbeat, grey station, hidden underground in East Berlin like so many other stations. But dust, yes, dust, everywhere. Even in the air. A reflex kicked in. “Who is operation manager?†she said, remembering the drill every time she awoke. “Operation manager? Who do you mean? This base hasn’t been operational for decades…†“So what are UNISON doing down here?†she asked. “We found records of this place. Came here to excavate…Russians aren’t too pleased, but it’s a UNISON project, and they are part of UNISON…†“The Russians? Part of UNISON? When did that happen?†“Take it easy, ma’am. A lots changed…the USSR is no more, and Germany is reunified, and…well, a lot has changed…best take it slowly…†One UNISON agent consulted his laptop, and whispered to another. She barely overheard. Something about a “Positive ID†and “Take her in…†Figured. Between the stations secrets and her activity over five decades, somebody would click who she was. Or at least suspect. “Ma’am, I know this is quite a shock, but you need to come with us to…debrief…†A pause. A lull. Fingers were moved closer to handguns. Signs of tension. Warning: Analysis indicates subdual and restraint imminent. Target: Western Imperialists. Five. Armed with unknown hand weapons. Movement indicates preparation to subdue or attack. Encircling beginning. Retaliatory action against Capitalist Oppressors strongly advised… The shuffles of the men were plain to see. She felt groggy, still, confused. Waking up was hard to do, and Slaves advice, along with her reflexes, seem to light the way. This was freedom! Her old handlers gone. Slave was no longer under their whip, and neither would she be. This was her chance…and she was not going to swap one agency for another, even if it was more benign. Time to go. “Debrief? Of course….†She smiled. It was not quick, it was not easy. There were five of them, and even if UNISON agents were not trained soldiers, they were no pushover, and they were armed. And the Red Rat wanted to start this decade, no, this new life, without the dirty palate of her previous one. A kick, a punch, a shove of a gun. Duck, punch, kick. Turn. Too slow. Crack…A bullet in her thigh. Spin, punch, throw. Last one behind her…crack…shoulder this time…fall, roll, kick the legs out, and lunge. Messy. Targets neutralised. Warning: Trauma. Seek Medical Aid if Possible! “Not possible, Cimbora†she said, sarcastically. She looked at the bullet wounds. Nasty, but not too nasty. And there was a first aid kit here, somewhere. Where to go? What to do? Freedom had landed on her lap, and she wished to seize it with both hands. What was that place in America? Freedom City. Perfect.

Do you have any deep, dark secrets in the past that may come back to haunt you? Yes, I acted over several decades as a KGB agent, and did some horrible things. I like my life! How do you feel about money and material wealth? Do you desire it or disdain it? Are you miserly with what you have, or do you like to share? Is it a mark of success, or a means to an end? I like cash, no questions. But I don’t like how it falls into the hands of the rich and greedy to easily, and into the hands of hard working men and women to hard. How do you generally treat others? With a smile Are you a trusting person? Has your trust ever been abused? Yes, and no. In principle, I was always trusting and grew up in a trusting family.
