1. Haven Haven frowned, flexing his fingers. Vexing, vexing... but of course a organisation like Ares would have a firewall, and, if they were as nefarious as M said, then it would be a strong firewall. Secrets. There were, he thought, three options Firstly, become someone on the list Secondly, change the list Thirdly, find another exit and bypass the passport office altogether. The third one sounded the best option. Time was not pressing and he could at least recce the digital Ares construct. Sometimes people left backdoors; some of them deliberate, most of them mistakes. It was thin chance, but he took it. If nothing else, it might supply more information about the organisation. Peeling off from the immediate data stream, he quickly sailed around Ares, looking for a crack...
2. The shriek from the head is indeed a magical / curse effect. The HP reroll will work fine its DC 15
3. Gamma Buzz "Your puny bling powers are no match for my amazing Cockroach - reflexes!" declared Baz, wagging his finger at the burst of light. "Wait... oh blast, you blasted me!" His proclamation of superior cockroach reflexes may well have been true. He was far more agile than a normal human. But he had spent so much time boasting about his superior cockroach reflexes that, alas, his superior cockroach reflexes were not sufficient to dodge the light. He did move - and moved fast - at the last minute, but the light cracked his shoulder, just between the armour plates that guarded his more fleshy flesh. "Ouch!" he declared, spinning around, his eyes diverting in a dazed glare. "Just you wait! Slowball slam him, Lawrence!" he shouted at his friend.
4. Toughness: 1d20+8 15 for Baz, which I think is dazed and bruised? Ill take that - typical Baz getting biffed up!
5. DIamondlight As soon as the woman stopped speaking, Diamondlight emitted a flash of light. One second he was there. The next, he was right beside her. From his right hand, he brought froward a three foot blade of silver-white light, which he spun and slashed at the Vampire. It wasn't sunlight, he knew, but he hoped it would work. But he missed... sloppy, he told himself. Aimed to high. She was too fast. In another blink of light, he was back where he started, sparking blue light in frustration at himself.
6. Going to teleport to the woman vampire, laser blade her, and with turnabout teleport feat, move back to starting position. Attack roll is unshifted, Laser Blade: 1d20+11 12 and a spectacular miss.
7. GM Up from the deep, thirty inches high, breathing vapours, head in your eye! CROCANCONDA emerged from the depths with a horrible rustling of the water. The beast had the head of a giant crocodile, and thirty feet of slithering snake body. Its eyes, black, its skin, oily, its breath a horrible fetid fume. And the head started wailing! A dreadful screech of agony, reverberating in the cove. "THE TORMENTOR! THE TORMENTOR!" A crocodile head couldnt smile. But it looked like it was...
8. OK you both spot the CROCACONDA and are not surprised! Corocodanda has Init 10 We have Round 1: 16 - Blackstaff - Unharmed - 2 HP 13 - G Star - Unharmed - 1 HP 10 - Crococonda - Unharmed AND A horrible wail hits the air! This is a Nauseate 5 (Perception Range, Sense Dependent, Limited to Sicken, Continuous DUration) effect Meaning every round you roll DC 15 Reflex to plug your ears and avoid the effect (although this uses your ears - maybe you can find something else), and if you fail that a DC 15 Will save to avoid the Sickened status. So, Blackstaff is up with the wail effect!
9. the Lock, such as it is, is DC 20 to open. John could take 10 and have it open in under a minute, given he is pretty skilled at lockpicking.
10. GM The Lock was there. Cheap, a bit rusty, but servicable. A half skilled lockpick could have it open in a few minutes, by John's estimation. The security in the circus, such as it was, seemed to be sufficient to keep out drunkards and petty thieves. Anyone else? Well, either the Circus had nothing valuable, or was relying on the sleeping tigers to raise the alarm. Probably both. Even the windows were only covered by tattered net curtains. Peering in - well, the inside was dark, but John could see a sleeping figure under patchwork blankets. A ringmasters hat on a hatstand. A whip, a red jacket. Everything inside cheap and second hand. If this was the Ringmaster's trailer, then the rest of the troupe would be living in borderline squalor. Had the circus fallen on hard times, or had they spent all their money?
11. Haven Mars, the Red Planet! He understood that much, that symbolism. But the Emerald City? That could mean this Emerald City. Or the Wizard of Oz. It could possibly mean both. Here was the twin danger; to draw too much inference, or to draw too little. A hint of yellow? What was that? The yellow brick road? In any case, he would not discern much from static indecision. Time to follow the yellow brick road. Towards the Emerald City. Towards Mars!
12. Could we have notice and initiative rolls from you both, @Ponchoand @Spacefurry?
13. Starshot "CoVic... as trustworthy as you can get in the galaxy," said Starshot. "So we trust him." For now. Even if the Kahn could be trusted, could the Kahnate behind him? There was history of brutality, and politics was a brutal game of chess. Pieces moved, jostling for power. He didn't like it. Tyranny? Perhaps. "Maybe," he muttered, contemplating the doctor's theorem. "Not enough data. I guess we get closer. But be prepared - if they are that agitated they may lash out. We can't study them if we are dead." And the Sarcota were big. Bigger than anything he had hunted. "But first - lets meet up with our new friend. See what he has to say. And see if you can peel off any readings from his armour..." He cut back the engines and did the final approach at a more leisurely rate.
14. GM "Flint? No!" shrieked the head. "No, it was not Flintlock, of that I am sure. She was at sea when I... when this head was cut off. Just a head, just a head..." "Just a head!!!!" she shrieked. From the entrance, ferocious splashing could be hurd. "Just ahead! It is coming! It is coming! The guardian! the...tomentor!!!!" Closer, louder, the splashing came. The smell of sea water brine filled the air. A whistling sound echoed through the cave. Thick tendrils of mangrove roots started curling up from below the water. The cave was becoming swampy! And something was slithering towards them underwater!
15. Haven Cyberspace was Haven's space. But it was not without risk. A risk he was prepared to take. For a life without risk was the riskiest life of all. He took three breaths. He didn't need to breathe, not any longer. He had no need for oxygen. His lungs, such as they were, were no more than silicon and chrome lined spaces in his chest. But the rituals were still there, and he rituals had value. Three breaths, and then in. His digital consciousness was the same as life - a chrome man, wearing a black suit. He streamed forward, zooming through laced datastreams, seeking MarsTech...
16. Opposed STR roll 29 if Super STR counts thats an extra +3 (total 32)
17. GM The EPA phone was one of those "yes... in the fullness of time..." feigned interest and concern overlaid across a tired and cynical night operator. Not cruel, not malicious, but someone drowning in paperwork. John had the feeling that his worried were on a waiting list. But the night was young. There was a clear trailer that had "ringmaster" written all over it. Not as drab or chipped as the others, painted gold, larger. It was surely the best candidate for the mastermind of the circus. From the outside, he couldn't determine if someone was in, or not. The door was locked - but a relatively cheap one.
18. I think thats probably at the level of "Yeah. Its on the waiting list...." So they will come but not in the middle of the night. But lets RP it out.
19. Sure Could you roll a knowledge (civics) for any such call? We can RP it of course, but just to see how effective John is.
20. Awesome; a good roll Some things he might notice: 1. Animals are being kept in rather poor conditions. Not to the torture level, but certainly a bit mangy, cells dirty and cramped etc. 2. There is signs of illicit drug use (smells, needles, etc) 3. You can dfind some sealed barrels locked up in a hut, looking just like the barrels that were being delivered by the truck.
21. Awesome... high enough nobody half asleep will notice you (unless you want to). Anything in particular you are looking for? And if so, appropriate search / knowledge rolls?
22. Doesnt hit, sorry!:( b(Even if the feint worked)
