Rene grunted as a machete bit into his chest. It hurt, but there was no blood. His flesh was more than mere bones and sinew here, both less, and more, real. "Zut Alors! I know not why you wish to hack an old man to death, my friends, but it is far from civil or polite! If I am to be cut down, then do me the dignity of explaining what slight or offence I have caused!" He took a few steps back, holding in his sternum, fresh from the machete swipe. With a wave of his other hand, a brilliant river of light washed through them, like a flash of liquid light, dazzling in its ferocity. He had no wish to hurt them, yet, But he did not care to be sliced and diced either...

OOC for this Synapse and Foreshadow attend the Winter Olympics! Some politics, some athletics, some icy danger! To kick off, please feel free to post your arrival to Soshi, by air sea or land. Foreshadow has also experienced a fore-vision of Sergeant K approaching him, and also of Sergeant K getting shot (lethally? who knows...) Feel free to make appropriate Knowledge (Current Events) or Gather Information rolls about any specifics you want to know - either now, or in the course of the thread.

GM Friday 7th February Sochi, the Winter Olympics 2014. The air was unseasonably warm in Sochi, casting doubts upon the logistics of the game, but spare snow had been stored, and was being hauled to the slopes. The mood was reasonably bouyant, with spectators both domestic and international looking forward to the herculean efforts of the olympians. Of course, the tourist industry was in full swing, with every type of food and drink being plied, and a rain of tourist tat to take home, place in the back of a cupboard, and stay there unseen for decades. There was a heavy and intimidating police presence, thanks to terrorists threats. And, some might say, to the possibility of demonstrations against the Russian governments policies over homosexuality. There was to be no marring of the festivities with contreversy, at least as far as the officialdom was concerned. One police officer was on edge. Sergeant K was smoking heavily. His revolver was hidden from view, under his armpit, but he always found it uncomfortable. Plain clothes policing in Russia could be a nerve wracking business. Shoulda brought a shotgun...he said to himself, between puffs, thinking of his favourite American film. He had good reason to be nervous too, given what he had found out. There was sweat on his forehead, despite the cool air. What he needed was someone to help him, and get him the hell out of Russia. An american tourist, well connected, plenty of money, and capable. He had considered approaching the American athletes, but they were too close to the problem, he judged. One wrong word, and boom... A palpatation in his chest. He visibly jumped at the thought...

1d20+16=18 ouch! a bruise (or injury and briuse from a machete?) -
An interesting PC! A few issues I see... Firstly, not up to PL10 combat caps by far....which we ask new PCs to meet. Secondly, you are right that variable powers for skills is not generally allowed. With some limitations that mean not every skill is available any time, and providing that the cost of the power is more than the PP of skills you get, it is possible. For instance the mimic power, or appropriately limited shape hanging powers. Slow changing you mention might be worthy if consideration, but changing in a minute still means you can get effectively any non combat skill you want pretty quickly, at any rank, for 8PP! Lastly, no complications listed. I would give some time to thinking of some, as they can be a lot of fun. I did a piece on complications in character building you may wish to read. There a few minor clean ups to do in format, but they are easy to iron out! Welcome to the site!

Even without light, Rene could see them. In his mind's eye, haunting, intimidating, closing in on him. The dreamlands were not safe, even for him. Dangerous bogeymen and monsters clambered around the mercurial lands. And these three men, he judged, were not greeting him to share fine wine and ham baguettes. Brave as he was, this did not warrant inaction. He saw the scene as a painting, blurred but hyperreal. And through it, with a wave of his hand, he added his own brushstroke. It could not be seen in the darkness, but it was grey and fine, a wave of cobwebs that slung through the air and through the men. Fine as the webs were, here they were as strong as steel, forged from Rene's mighty imagination, and bearing that very strength. "Bonjour, Monsieurs!" he added as the webs crackled a fine sound, like whispers through dusty air.

Which means (thanks Vahn), as Hronos is dazed (which wears off), we are now... Round 9: 66 - Velocity - 2 HP - Fatigued 51 - Anomaly - Injured x3 23 - John S - Bruised, Staggered - 1000' away, in jungle freezing to death. 22 - Hronos - Injured - in Jungle 9 - T Rex - Unharmed, 800' away from the Stopwatch/Hronos. Conditions: Extreme Cold, DIstraction DC 10 (Storms), and Low Gravity (-2 to attack roll alongside other effects)

Well lets see if I can't web them up! Providing this actually works in dreamland, using Snare Line Area of Effect, for a DC 20 Reflex (Area save) and DC 20/15 Reflex Snare effect. I'm not quite sure how many I can get in a line - its as if a broad brushstroke of webs gets painted (as its ranged, not a line from him, a line originating and ending from him, if you get it). I suppose I at least get two, given the nature of lines! -

Does Rene Mental Sense work here? as in, does it let him "see" the nasties? -

Thanks Tiff = which means entangled. El Heraldo is up!

Rene carefully examined the strange school. Or university. Or academy. Whatever it was. Perhaps it was all three, or none. If this was a dream, or nightmare, then the world was formed more from ideas, visions, or fantasies, than concrete causality. The campus had signs, directions. Some were dull, leading to nowhere, or perhaps where he had just been. Again, he had the feeling he was being herded into a certain direction, like an insect falling down a funnel. He clucked and stroked his grey goatee, pondering the experience. If he was being herded, then so what? Malign or benign, the force behind this was unknown. Perhaps it was even unknowing. In any case, he had no difficulty swallowing his pride. Let him be herded! He read a few more of the signs and directions, and followed them, navigating by instinct rather than geography.

EDIT: NEED WILL SAVE FROM HRONOS (DC 18) to escape paralysis before Round 9! So back to Velocity! Round 9: 66 - Velocity - 2 HP - Fatigued 51 - Anomaly - Injured x3 23 - John S - Bruised, Staggered - 1000' away, in jungle freezing to death. 22 - Hronos - 1 HP - in Jungle, Palralysed (DC 20 Will) 9 - T Rex - Unharmed, 800' away from the Stopwatch. Notes: Environment is severe cold, distracting DC 10, and low gravity (-2 to attack rolls plus other effects)

GM Robert winced, closing his blurred eyes and opening them again, trying to focus. "What? Breach?" he said, pressing his fingers to his temple in effort. At least he wasn't rambling so much now. "I feel lighter...cold...." he muttered, before looking up at the Null Zone Breach. "What is that? It hurts to look at it...some kind of...I don't know...I can't think...if the Null Zone is outside of normal space time, then the breach must be like a crack in the shell. The Null Zone is collapsing in on itself...." he frowned. "That's bad, isn't it? We have to stop it, suture it or something, but...I don't know how...maybe the Caretaker does...." he said, bumbling along his words. "The zone must be maintained by something...must be inside the dome..." he speculated. Meanwhile, Hronos was crunched by the Anomaly, who spun around the robot, changing form into something even more bizzare, the light and physical dimensions distorting wildly...

Ok, so El Heraldo actually avoids the snares, because second reflex roll beats DC 20 (even if yo failed the Area evasion)! Round 1: 18 El Heraldo - Unharmed - 3 HP 14 - Swamp Beasts - Unharmed 6 - Young Brittania - Unharmed, Entangled- 1 HP Notes: The Swamp creatures, have partial concealment as they are partially or completely submerged in scummy black water.

Which makes Hronos injured and dazed. At this point I am inclined to move straight to next round. John is freezing to death quite a distance away, T Rex continues charging.. Do you want to post IC, Vahn? (on ground?)

Shall I post that IC, HG? -
Ack sorry Arichamus, missed that! Which means we need an Initiative Roll from YB then moving to the swamp action!

1d20+10=20 for Mess, adding in the bruise penalty I think that means just a bruise.

Doing her best, with limited success, to ignore the pain in her fractured leg, she crawled backwards, instinct taking over. "John! John! Get your ass out of here! Run, dammit!" she growled at him, keeping her gaze fixed on the possessed youth - or whatever he (it?) was. SHe couldn't get up. She could only guess the splint on her leg had broken too. She was fighting from the ground, against an unknown adversary, Tazel gone. Not even her cane in her hand. "You see? I got what it takes!" said Carmen, defiantly to the youth. "I got whatever it takes!" It was oh so easy to call on the infernal forge now, her rage was pure. Her hands, flat on the damp tarmac, pushing her away, started to fizz, steam, with smoke and fire licking the ground...

2014, time to update the Super Strength Roster! There are a large number of active or semi active PCs in Freedom City, but who can lift the most? As per previous Rosters, a few notes: 1. Errors may happen! feel free to correct. Apologies! 2. Some judgement calls had to be made which are rather difficult. For this update, Density and Growth are in. Shapeshifting is out (because it is very difficult to judge exactly what combination of powers would be reasonable). Mimic is in, just. Rage is out, just. Some Devices, like Dead Heads Spade, or Gimmick powers, are out. I hope the rationale for these calls makes some sense. 3. I have missed out, for now, a few PCs who have not earned any PP and/or may not be active players. Apologies for this. 4. The categories are arbitrary, but established from previous Rosters, so I am keeping them, even if they are a bit skewed in size. Sorry to folks who just missed out on the next category! 5. On that note, no metagaming or bragging! This is just for fun (and possibly reference if an Aircraft Carrier sinks outside Freedom City harbour!) So, onwards! So Anomaly is up and is going to stunt some effect on its aura, meaning it is dimensional rather than temporal in descriptor. HP to Hronos! And as Hronos is paralysed, Anomaly cannot miss, and DC 25 Toughness save.

After discussion with Thev, I am exercising common sense over rule technicality. I dont think rain and storm should shut down super speed here. For many, or most other sustained powers (like force field or telekenesis), I can understand. But running really fast? I have a hard time there. So we are ruling that speed here is immune to environmental distraction in this case. Also, it stops Velocity being a spare lemon!
