Gallia Falling, part 2 - Rene-le-Chateau (OOC)
Supercape replied to Tiffany Korta's topic in Archives
Great! Thanks! Good idea with Cardere and demon hunting (although undead has been more of his thing, its not been tied down) - lets bash it out? -
"Damn it, that voodoo bull actually worked" whistled the Hound through his teeth as he got out of the Caddy and stuffed his hands into his mac, drinking in the sight of the warehouse. "I don't like it, man" said the Mess, lumbering up beside him, cracking his knuckles. "This is a no-good shack in a no-good street in a no-good side of town" he explained, shifting his eyes left and right. "We best watch our backs. I got yers, buddy" he said, grinning and giving the Hound a pat on the back which was just a little bit too hard, propelling the Hound a few inches forward. "Yeah, yeah, ya lug, I knows that. Whose got yours?" said the Hound, under his breath but audible all the same. "Well, I guess this needs looking into. That you two's jobs" he continued, pointing at Revenant and the Mess. "I'll just stay here and make sure our wheels don't get jacked, hmm?" he said, leaning against the temperamental car. The Mess shrugged in agreement. The warehouse did look pretty shifty and dangerous to his eyes, and no doubt to Revenants and Harry's too. "Well I guess we are up, ma'am" he said, nodding to Lucy. "Lets try the sneaky, today?" he inquired of her. And with that, he leant back, and with a back breaking curl, bent forward to expel a gush of blood from his mouth. His body shrivelled and dried as his blood left his body, leaving a two foot high animated body standing in front of the now inanimate body of Bloody Mess.

Carmen pondered briefly. "An old fire? That is good, in a way, as you say" she said. "Unless our man could read ashes" she said, half joking and then realising when it came to this mystery, reading ashes was still on the menu. She sat down, exhausted, lay the Cantos cane to one side and massaged her legs. She hurt, she felt hungry, and she was feeling the guilt over Acheron's death, submerged by the veneer of vengeance, beginning to seep into her bones. Tears were spilling over the rage. "Captain, I have to find out what happened here. Or it will eat me up. I swear" she said, feeling frail and hollow inside. "It's not just a matter of getting us all off this island safe and sound. Although I will, damn it. I want to know just how and why Acheron threw himself into this pit" she said, wiping her brow and feeling cold. Silently, she stood up and started the search with the others. Her determination was hardened.

Are we dropping out of combat?
-
Well somewhat arbitarily lets say he is 1000lbs, making a medium load at STR 30. that leaves YB with 5 Ranks of Flight which she can move all out in: 10,000' in a round, but at 2/3 that makes about 6000 feet for 26,000 feet. Ultimately of course the rules are going to get a little soft round the edges here. So, I'll give Tyulluan one more Grapple attack, causing a DC25 Toughness Roll for YB and we shall see what happens there. If that doesnt daze her, he is going to loosen his grip and fall / fly back to earth.

Going to just run in panic. If you want to make that a comedy fail, go for it!

Watching the magnificent arc through which Revenant Traversed was enough to break the last thin strand of the Hound's courage. "Well fella's..." he gulped. "I'd love to say its been fun, but it's actually been a night of adrenaline fuelled anxiety and dread. Now, if you don't mind, I have to be somewhere else to have a panic attack and drop dead from a cardiac arrest" he explained, voice dry with fear. He wasn't lying either. He felt the cold damp feeling of fear swarm through his body like scuttling insects. But the adrenaline gave him speed too. He turned heel, and with a brisk explosion of panic, bolted away from the fighters. He didn't really care which direction he bolted. Not here was all he could think about...

Hound is going to take total defence to add +8 to his dodge bonus. Then, run!

GM The old revoler came away in Revenants supernaturally powerful grip, much to Detective Chance's annoyance. "Speaking to the dead, is it?" said Detective Chance, glaring at Revenant. "Not everyone gets a second chance like you. Not everyone gets so lucky" she said. "Some of us have to claw our way through life, and through its misfortunes" "Me, I took my luck where I could get it. I spent my life on the streets and when I got shot up, I figured it was time to get my life back in order. Just so happened I found a guy who could make that happen. And he had a thing or two to say about you. Said you owed him three favours. But then it went down to two..." he said. "He told me how to make that gun. Sweat, blood and tears. And I mean that in the literal sense. Told me about this Indian artifact too. Said it could heal me. It could heal anything. Well I guess he got that right..." she said, as they both listened to the metallic voice of Gauntlet and the roar of Arcturus behind them. "And he said I should call in favour number two. Nobody getting hurt here, as he promised. He just wanted to Indian Artifact. So let me go..."

Lost the link, but she rolled 15 (Sorry, just trust me!) Detective is going to crawl away Arcturus is up!

Ok lets see if Wilis, the stickler for rules, is prepared to bend them! DC 15 Diplomacy check!

So Rene will use Light Control (Descriptor sunlight, magic) from his magic wand array, see what that does!

"How illuminating" replied Rene, his smile frozen on his face. He had faced many creatures from beyond the ocean of reality, but this Jingles - or perhaps, the power behind him - was an ominous force indeed. "Not in a speaking mood, today, then?" he asked. "Just come to blacken the night? To rattle the chains? Perhaps, if you could not raise a smile, you would raise a scream then..." He brought out his magic paintbrush. "But life is for song, dance, and laughter" he said, simply, and started painting wafts on sunshine into the air...

He is pretty single minded / stupid so it is unlikely but possible! Incidentally, from a mechanical point of view, which was pointed out by Thev, we both goofed I think. YB super strength and flight is in a dynamic array. Tyullan weighs 1000lbs, so you need to factor that into how far she can / cant carry him. Anyway we shall say 20000 feet for now (and fudge it) - what are you doing with your action?

GM "I regret to inform you that..." started the Caretaker, before a deep rumbling hit the entire dome... The soft white lighting of the null dome was replaced by a red one. "...it appears the Null Zone is under attack" continued the Caretaker, his smooth melodic tones not stopping for one moment. He paused for a moment. "We have a breach. A thing we thought impossible, as this zone is outside of the space - time continuum" he said, calm despite the enormity of the situation. "The obvious explanation is your arrival here, or, to speculate further, the arrival of the stopwatch. It has allowed Collapse to strike..." he said ominously. Meanwhile... The Time Agents looked startled, and afraid. They briefly stopped their work on the artificial womb inside which was growing Velocity and Robert's baby. "Collapse! Here? How?" he mumbled, genuinely afraid. "He can't...we have shielded..." he groaned, wiping sweat from his forehead. "It can only be the stopwatch!" he said, turning to Velocity, fury on his face. "Your interference here may just have cost us everything! Well, now you get to see what horror lies in your future! in everybodies!" he shouted at her.

GM As luck would not have it, the door swung open, revealing the furious beard of the Captain. He was a slightly short man, with the body of a man cooked by the sea - layered with fat and muscle in equal parts. Whilst Roi may have been acting drunk, the Captain needed no thesbian skills to mimic the Frenchman. His breath smelled of whisky and hard liquor, and yet he stood straight still. "What the blazes are you doing knocking on my door..." he started, staring at the pair. "I don't know you...or you..." he roared, although his eye lingered lovingly on Agnes for a moment. "Do I?" he added, doubt whispering his resolve. Out of the corner of their eyes, Roi and Agnes could see the police that had been trailing them breaking cover, and closing in...

We are thinking about a condensed catch up sheet, consider your point a reminder! Arichamus has a neat list of current active heroes that is worth peeking at. If you are using any cannon NPCs here, you need to run it past the refteam in a global pm. Equally, if you are doing anything with any long term consequences, the same applies. That being said, most threads do not need to be run past the refteam, they use custom NPCs either built based on archetypes or created on the fly here, and don't have major implications for the campaign I hope that answers your question? as always, chat is a great resource!

Well as Oscar Wilde said, the only thing to do with advice is to pass it on, it is of no use to oneself! I'm sure tons of people here will be happy to help, but at the end of the day, its learning what works for you! (Although having said that, yes, PbM does differ from tabletop. For instance, on the down side you cant pick up non-verbal cues from each other, On the upside, it is extremely suited to "winging it"/improv as you have plenty of time to consider what happens)

1. Learn the OOC conventions for combat we have here. 2. Work in collaboration with players (its not your story or module, you create it together). 3. Dont force players down your vision of the story, have the story follow the players 4. Dont over-plan. You need very little planning at all in a PbM game when you have time to ponder, adapt, and wing it. 5. Dont sweat it (many threads fail, its not automatically the GMs fault) Above all, enjoy it. EDIT: And also, dont take advice to seriously. There is no right way to play RPGs, people have different agendas and different styles, find your own, find people who overlap with yours, and be polite to people who want something different out of their RPG!

Posted IC (although you may want a knockback check after the Mess pounded him! - or not, depending on what suits!)

The Mess tossed the battered car aside casually. He noted with pleasure the Riverter-shaped dent in its roof. "That's just warmin' up" he said, cracking his knuckles. "Thug like you ain't gonna listen to no words. Thug like you ain't only gonna listen to something a lot harder. Say hello to my friends lefty and righty.." he smiled through gritted teeth. And he introduced the Riveter to his two friends. After the Crusaders more expert dance, the Riveter was wide open, and the Mess did not squander the opportunity. He cruised in with heavy swings, his muscles bulging with super powered blood, and he delivered a cracking series of three blows to the Riveter, body..body...head. The lust one stung even his toughened knuckles, on the metal body of the Riveter. But he was pretty sure he had stung the Riveter even harder...
-
So Mess is going to take advantage of that and clobber him with lefty and righty this time! I'll shift that slightly, -2 attack, +2 DC 1d20+8=22 so I guess that hits for a DC 27 Toughness save

"This is the part in the horror movie where the scooby gang splits up to search the haunted house" said Pitch, sardonically, clearly indicating her contempt for the tactic. It was true, time did not favour them with her luxury, but splitting up seemed a very bad idea. She could have done with a rest, the walk had nearly killed her. Her blisters had blisters and her brace cut into flesh. She would have dearly loved to take it off, but doing so would disable her. She studied the building nearest them. She was no genius, and her school grades where only average, except for English. She was pretty good with words. "What's that?" she asked, studying the letters. "Public? Records? Archive? Service?" she guessed after pondering the puzzle a few moments. She had been to a few of those in her time. True, her Rock Journalist career had flown on the back of being more Rock than Journalist, but she still was a Journalist. "Lets give it a try, its as good a place to start as any. Maybe some trace of Archeron looking at the records..."
