Ok so (presuming Osprey goes down) can we have a DC 20 Notice check to spot an electronic alarm. Its DC 25 to Disarm (Disable Device) which may mean taking a 20 (for 2 minutes work).

GM Soho, after midnight... Bullet Tony had chosen two of his best men - loyal and experienced. They may have been a little longer in tooth, but they were seasoned criminals and seasoned fighters. And, despite Ospreys protest's armed with guns. "We won't shoot. Unless we are shot at first" That was the deal. So the thugs each had a cosh. And each knew how to use one. Even at this time of night, Soho was busy. It never completely stopped. It was a mix of glamour and seediness. Drugs were dealt, and prostitution was evident. The gay scene - in its most flamboyant and overtly sexual - was out in force. Coffee and liquor and scents of world cooking lingered in the air. And across the rooftops, Bullet Tony, Osprey and two men, in black, clambered until they reached Big Nelson's building. "Nelson's Column" hissed Tony in a whisper, pointing downwards as his friends unscrewed the air vent down to Nelson's Column, the base of Big Nelson's building. "Ladies first..." he said with a grin, indicating Osprey should go down in the lead.

Sticklefront's Learning Curve; Adventures in Rules!

Yeah I kind of guessed you weren't Iron Age, but you know, thought I would give the Heads up. Its probably wrong to say we are Silver Age too. We are probably a blend between Silver, Bronze, and Modern. Some players/GMs tend more towards one style than another of course. We have a fairly broad palate. What is fairly clear is that Iron Age is out of the window, and Golden Age is just too irrelevant! And no, there is in general no culture here of optimisation or power gaming (fortunately). We have a culture where your PC will only die if you want him/her too. Villains and threats are totally calibrated towards the heroes they face. We dont encourage "metagaming", where PCs try to outdo one another to be the strongest or smartest or most powerful on the board. What we like are strong backgrounds and fluff which will generate great stories. Some of your questions are about flavour. There is of course no right or wrong way to play an RPG. If you ask around, you will find that each of the site members here have different (slight or big) styles in terms of how they play or GM. We all end up with a tendency (not absolute) to gravitate towards that style and flavour. For instance, I prefer to play and GM medium and lower level PL games on a smaller, more intimiate and drama (insert jazz hands) scale which are combat light (but not combat absent). Having said that, some players find optimisation more important than others. Some get some intellectual stimulation or reward from it. We would like your player to be functional. That means meeting the PL caps at starting out. But there is no need for min-maxing or optimisation (or whatever you would like to call it). -
As Carmen listening she felt the Cantos cane tingle, and saw a ghostly amber flame roar in the words of John Perdition. She gripped the cane tightly, in reflex. Holy smoke, are you telling the truth for once, Tazel? There was hellfire and brimstone here somewhere, she was sure of it. Some infernal power had corrupted the reality of the world once more. "Selling your soul, huh?" she said, taking another drink to steady her nerves. Despite, or perhaps because of her dealings with the infernal, she was on her guard. There was possibly no one on the planet better equipped to deal with them, but they still made her nervous. Unpredictable. She had long suspected that the reason nobody knew or understood demons was that they were by definition undefinable. They were impossible. And they were real. Work out that paradox. "I have heard that story a few times. Always ends in tears. And lost souls" she said solemnly. "But I guess I can hope. Maybe this one might have a happier ending? Why don't you hit me with it?"

Sticklefront's Learning Curve; Adventures in Rules!

A warm welcome to Fcpbp! There are lots of mechanical things to tidy up and refine (Raveled has mentioned a few), but thats fine, this is a draft and thats what this thread is for! Nothing stands out as way out problematic, just needing tinkering. First things first, however, comments on the fluff. These are only comments of course. Bear in mind that this site is PG-12 in principle. Of course the rules get bent a little now and again, just like in real life certification. And being PG-12 doesn't meant that it isn't adult. Bergman films are PG-12 by and large and would not appeal to kids! Anyway, I say this because we tend to avoid Iron Age style. Havok isn't in that style with both feet, but it feels like his toe may be dipping in into Iron Age. I don't say this a problem necessarily just as a heads up. A more definite thing is we pretty much blanket ban vigilantes / killing. We do of course have "valid targets" which we deem acceptable to "kill", like things not alive in the first place (robots/undead etc) and some truly evil non humans (such as, possibly, aliens or demons etc). The very occassional death in the right place for dramatic purposes is ok, but I hope you get the drift of this. Havok seems to have be outside this trope but I mention it to give a concrete example of our anthipathy towards more bloody forms of Iron Age. You may of course get some ribbing for being a wolverine expy that is no particular problem as we have various expys on the site! One note about your description of short bursts of adrenaline. This sounds, mechanically a lot like the boost power or the rage feat. They can be very interesting to play, but from a build point of view they are fiddly and often sub optimal in terms of efficiency (or optimisation or whatever you want to call it). Rage in particularly makes it impossible to meet combat caps - which is something we like beginning characters to meet. Just a thought anyway. -
They do, yes. They are pretty well equipped! Give us those rolls, Az!

Shall I post IC spotting an infernal effect or you want to give detail about it OOC?

1d20+6=20] Hows about that? Anything to report?

"I dunno about you, but I'm very much alive!" said the Mess, his veins throbbing with turbo-powered Mess-blood. He picked up a car that the Riveter had been working on, like it was no more than a baseball bat and held it over his head. "Get outta the way, my friend, I gotta an express delivery!" he said to the Crusader, who he judged was faster on his feet that the metal and steel cyborg. "That mean's duck! I gotta express delivery for yer Iron Jaw, ya bozo!" His hands crunched into the steel of the car, and he casually swung the car straight into the face of the Riveter.
-
Ok its non-optimal tactics, but then, its Bloody Mess we are talking about. And anyway, Cool is always optimal. Picking up a car, which is well within light load parameters, and smacking the Riveter with it. 1d20+10=29 wowzer's! a good day! Whilst Im tempted to make that a crit cause I just hit him with a car it will probably end things to quickly. So lets go for a TOughness DC 25 Save, and yes, Ill make that knockback! if it dazes him.

Rooftops is good. As Bullet tony is following you, well you are likely not to be a perfect ninja with them on your back anyway! Post will come IC for the cut.

Ok I would like to get this corpse reanimated! Apologies folks, I have dropped the ball badly here. I would like to suggest moving out of combat and back into a mystery segment. Then to go see where it goes - which may well mean a finale. ILl wait for all three of you to confirm in the first intance you are ok with reanimating the corpse, secondly you are ok with dropping out of combat, and thirdly, if you have any thoughts on where to go, and then I shall inject my patented Necro-revitalising fluid and hope for the best. Sorry once again. I guess thats the nature of all GMing, balls get dropped!

As a move Action Pitch will attempt an intimidate. Wont be easy, a -5 penalty for being a move action, and a -4 penalty for target being unable to hear, so only a +3 bonus, but lets give it a whirl: 1d20+3=11 pretty bad. But if its a demon she gets another +2 on that from Favoured Enemy feat for a total of +13. As a Standard Action Pitch will continue Suffocating it, which I guess is a DC 11 CON check (and maybe with a penalty if her initimidate worked).

GM A little later... It had been a long night. The sun had not yet risen, but the faintest glow in the horizon indicated the dawn would not be far away. The rain kept at it, neither hard not soft. Enough to make a noise and to make you wet. But not enough to rip through you. The Docks of Freedom CIty dropped the temperature just slightly, enough to send the whisper of a chill at this time of night. It got darker here, too. The sea was black and the lights less frequent. The Blue dawn was there, just where Roi had left it. A cheap passenger ship, were immigrants both legal and the other type were herder in conditions just better than cattle. Some had walked out, some were carried out on stretchers. RIght now, it was refuelling and grabbing a few days worth of repairs and rest and relaxation for the crew. A few dock workers worked and early shift, and a few nightwatchmen were half asleep reading the early morning papers. And Roi caught sight of a few policemen following them, in the shadows this time...

Ari, are you ok for me to do a cut to Soho, you and Bullet Tony and a couple of his meatheads? If so, how would you like to approach Soho and Ill set up a scene? Feel free to make a few appropriate rolls like disguise or stealth or whatever depending on your judgement and how you want to approach Big Nelson.

For Reference: The Team gets +2 Situational Bonus for all Knowledge, Craft, Science, Disable Device Rolls pertinent to the Haven after having studied the Blueprints (and Dee's previous knowledge)
-
Ok, so DC 16 Sense Motive To realise that Towers is (of course) bluffing about the Poison Gas Cylinder being planted by the Terrotists. You may also make a Knowledge (Technology) Roll DC 25 And DC30 YOu get +2 on your Knowledge Tech roll for each rank of Microscopic Vision, and for at least one Rank of Extended Vision, as it helps you spy the device from afar and in detail.
-
GM Towers looked at Glow and Silver spider with contempt. And... ...a trace of anger. Now it was his turn to humiliate them. "Real Heroes Shop at Hank's Propane Accessories!" he proclaimed, almost shouting, and pointing to a high tech nozzle on the back of his super-suit. He was clearly reading off some internalised memorised script. The dollar signs almost flashed in front of his eyes. "Never mind where and how! I'll show you what a real hero does!" he said, bringing out a small cylinder and assorted wires. "He deactivated the Poison gas cylinder the terrorists had set up before bursting in!" he shouted with emphasis. "Real heroes Don't put innocent people's lives in danger!" he continued, a subtle wag of his finger and glance at his Glow and Silver Spider. "What? We didn't..." started one of the 'terrotists' squirming in Glow's forcefield. "You would say that wouldn't you!" roared an interrupting Towers, to the clicks of many camera's, before a beeping light came off on his wrist. "How about that. Another Terrotist Attack at the Docks! I must be off. This Calls For a Real Hero!" he roared once more before leaping out of the shattered window to land on his huge extended stilts and run off into the night.

Agreed! Ill press on but please continue to use this OOC thread for views.

Looks good to me. If you guys are ok with TiffKs lead, we could have Osprey brought at your request, rather than the Ministry, which would give him unique status. Or, if you really want to push the boat out, Osprey could join you in secret. Thoughts please. But for now, lets post about hooking you guys up. Have a think about where you would like to go with that.
-
Ok I will have an IC post up soon. UPon cut to the docks, Roi will notice that the Police are following you. More cautiously this time, out of sight.

Ok from chat, I think all resolved. -
Carmen shrugged. Another electric shock of pain lanced down her right leg, and like always she threw a silent curse at her father who had wrecked her nerve with that tattoo down her spine. "What the hell, I will then" she said, ordering another whisky. It took the edge of the pain. She liked to think it took the edge of the bitterness. "I can see getting your throat cut gives you a whole new look on life. You were lucky to have survived that. Lucky to sing like you do, too. Did it cause any problems with your singing? change the way you sound?" she asked, interested. She had been in an amateur rock band herself as a younger woman. It took some skill to sing properly, and good singers needed to treat their vocal cords with great care. Tazel, if you want to talk, be polite, or don't talk at all. That's an order! she snapped back. Even if the demon was a demon, she could never quite bring herself to fully hate the thing. It was bound to her, and she always felt she had to treat it with at least some...humanity? much as she hated demons, she hated slavery too. It was a no-win situation for her when it came to Tazel.
