  1. "How the mighty will fall" sighed Rene. "Well, Father Henri, Madame, I thank you for your time, your patience, your directness and your instruction" he said, in a long winded way and with a bow. "But it seems the time has come for me to take leave and act. Time presses on my heels, and not in a kindly manner". He took of his jacket, and rolled up his sleeves. He felt like a soldier again, and whilst it was not an entirely unpleasant experience, he found the taste of adrenaline did not adequately compensate for the taste of unease. "I'm an artist, not a carnival acrobat!" he grumbled as he squeezed himself out of the the house and dropped to the Garden, cursing all the time as he hobbled to the secret passage, and once again lowered himself into the pit of darkness, and dropped once more...
  2. Ok Lets go for a wincing drop or two. Obviously Rene will take due care to lower himself as carefully as possible, but on the other hand, he isn't taking 20 so to speak. So Ill go for two toughness Rolls for falling damage for you, although of course he may need only one, and you set the DC! 1d20+8=11, 1d20+8=18 If eitiher of those result in him being staggered Ill burn an HP to reroll (and pass that on to you!). i.e. I dont mind a bruise or two but getting staggered is probably a bit much.
  3. GM "Holy Cow! Another piece?" shouted Steed. "I want to see this!" she demanded, setting the ship to auto pilot and storming into the main deck of the Pegasus, to inspect the two parts of the prototype. "I'm...surviving...Megan..." whispered Robert recovering some robustness. "I can sense them...and I can sense them scratching at me....if anyone can pick up these things....it's me....it's just I don't much like it..." he said with a weak grin. Heather peered up at the fragments which started glowing. "Hey look, its as if they are activa "Holy Cow! Another piece?" shouted Steed. Heather peered up at the fragments which started glowing. "Hey look, its as if they are activating!" said Heather, full of curiosity. "...wow, deja vu!" she said, pressing her hands to her temples. "These things really mess with your head, huh? I feel as though it got all slowed down for a moment there. This could be dangerous...." "You!" she said, in a demanding and charming way all at once, all smiles, eyes, and hand on swung hip, accompanied by pointed finger. "Where did you get this little trinket from? maybe it could lead us to the last piece?"
  4. Carmen staggered back, leaning on Mr. Wilder for balance. "Who the hell is that woman?" she asked, grasping Mr. Wilder's lapel. "The phantom of the opera? Whoever, or whatever, she is, you better your staff out of here...between she and Riff, they could bring the Opera house down around our ears..." she said with furious urgency. She could feel her passion rising. Anger at having to leave, and anger at leaving. She gripped her cane from a stage hand and used to it to gain proper footing. She turned round to see the duel, and caught sight of the piano... With the Cantos cane in her hand, she could see the piano as blazing with infernal fire and power. The keys appeared as cracked laughing teeth, the woodwork was warped and blackened brass, an impossible and furious thing, alive with passion. Carmen didn't know what demons where, and doubted anyone did, not any religious text, not even demons themselves sometimes. They were an affront to everything, including themselves. But she could sure as hell recognise them when the Cantos cane was in her hand. Beautiful and ugly all at the same time. And Mary was tapping into the piano, playing it like a virtuoso. Or perhaps the piano was playing her?

  6. Despite the darkness, Pitches' blazing black and red eyes could see perfectly thanks to the demon burning in her belly. All hell was breaking loose it seemed. What fool had caused this? Surely not Archeron himself? Had he made some self destructive pact for his riches and his music? She raised her Cantos Stick To the hail and shouted in defiance. "See this, pathetic crawling worms? If you don't know it, you should! Any insect that dares cross my path I will bind to me and make it endure such slavery!" She stamped her cane to the ground and ripped the silk top further down the back, making it hang lower. Modesty be damned, the full glory of the Cantos tattoo stretched down her spine and blazed wit her will. "You have never been able to touch me, and you never will!" she said, full of steel, as she marched on down to the dock, billowing smoke and wisps of fire.
  7. "Ah my dear lady, I hazard a guess that our friend down here is trying to bury his way out, and with his strength it will not take long" explained a nervous Supercape. He felt each jarring blow and winced. "And quite frankly he could shake the whole foundations of the building and cause it to collapse" he explained. He cast his mind back to the whirlwind of events that had happened here. "What is going on here? who where those people and why are they in the university? trying to steal something? and for that matter, who are you? trying not to steal something?" he asked, his mind whizzing. "Not that I don't trust you. It's just I...we...need to work out what to do. Heavy Metal want's to pound my to dust. That's not so much of a problem. I can whizz off to the other side of the universe if I have to. But I don't want him wrecking the university on my behalf. And he isn't stupid either. He will want to secure himself some power source so he doesn't starve himself back to Liebniz...." "Which, dangerous as it is, provides an possibility. Overloading him..."
  8. 1d20+5=19
  9. "Ouch ouch ouch" yelped Carmen as she raised her hand to the biting hailstones. Tazel, "FIRE ME UP!" she said, aloud this time, to the beat of fire and smoke, as the demon in the belly spread it warmth begrudgingly through her flesh and bones. At least she wouldn't freeze to death. "What the hell kind of weather is this anyway?" she asked aloud, aware that her question might well also be the answer. She shouldered her bag. The rifles were not particularly heavy, but she didn't really want to carry any more weight than she needed to. It would be a slog for her with her limp. At least it was down hill, she conceded. Trailing a plume of smoke, she set of down the hill, cursing with every stumble and every crack of hailstone that caught her in the face.
  10. Carmen grimaced inside. "The hard way it is" she said, lacing her voice with steel. She would have to lace her body with just such a determination too, as she strapped her splint on and put on her jacket and jeans. "Billy, Alex, get everyone to the dining rooms. Grab every weapon you can, even if its a kitchen carving knife. The ammunition won't last for ever. And hole yourself up. Leave the ship to me. I'm going on a rescue mission" she said. "Even if it it does take me half the night to get down there. I'm going as fast as I can..." "Alex, if you can get them, a flashlight and a radio would be handy. Even a pistol and a flare gun if you can spare them. But don't waste time. We don't have time to waste. I'm going out in the next minute or two with or without them. And you need to get holed up in the next five..." "And when I get back, I'm going to find out who did this and I'm going to rip out their..." She stopped herself and stormed off. She didn't know what she was going to do. She just knew she was blazing with fury.
  11. GM As if by magic... "Teleported?" asked the Zookeeper, surprised and somewhat anxious. "I don't think I have ever been..." He paused, frozen for in time. His mouth was open. It did not move, and yet sound called. "You called?" came the ethereal voice from the Zookeepers mouth. "Please do not be alarmed. This man is perfectly safe and no harm will come to him!" came the voice, all velvet and zephyr. "My name is Adrain Eldritch. I have many ways of being subtle and watchful, and I need them more than ever when it comes to dealing with the Swamp Queen" he said. "Yes, I know of her. Her history was recorded, and recorded well, by Broken Crow, and has been passed down in the secret tomes of the Master Mages ever since. We have been aware of her threat, and done our best to divert her..." "...but alas, our powers are limited at best. Whatever she took from Broken Crow, she took well. The power of the Master Mage is useless against her. I cannot interfere directly" he said with some obvious frustration. "Although we do of course delight in interfering against her indirectly!" he said more brightly.
  12. "This just gets better and better" cursed Carmen. "Billy, get me some proper clothes. The night may be warm, but I don't want to spend the rest of it half naked. And get that damn splint of mine too..." she said, with an edge of irritation. She didn't like ordering him around, but it looked like they were in for a rough night and time was of the essence. "Alex, this is going to be one hell of a night, and that I say that possibly in a literal sense" she said. "We need to find out who summoned these demons, rescue the ship and its crew, and hole up somewhere safe. And probably all three at once. But I can't do it all alone..." she said, breathless. "So tell me, where is this safest place in this island to defend, what weapons have we got, and who the hell would do this to Archeron?" she asked. "And please tell me you have some fast way of getting down to the dock! As you may have gathered" she said, gesturing to her cane "I'm not much of a runner..."
  13. I suggest you guys cut to Agnes appartment and can I have Notice and Streetwise Rolls for this dark night!
  14. GM With a pulse of light the car behind them was briefly illuminated in the dark city rain. A police car. "What the hell!" came the scream for the cops, as the driver caught the beam of light directly in his face. The Sirens wailed, and the car screeched to halt - by puling to one side and hitting a building with an alarming crunch. Steam poured out of the crumpled bonnet and into the wet night, illuminated by neon. As Agnes and Rio pulled away, they could dimly see two cops clambering out of their car and pulling their guns, but by then it was too late. They had slid away into the night, into blackness and out of view.
  15. That hits! Ill give the Driver a DC 20 Roll to keep the vehicle under control, and a drive skill of +4 1d20+4=6
  16. GM Robert Harrow walked up to Hronos behind Velocity, although it was not clear if he was shielding himself from the physical threat of the Robot or something more metaphysical. "I am Lord Harrow, physicist and..er...." he swallowed, wiping sweat of the brow. His eyes glistened and widened. "You have it, don't you?" he asked faintly, his normally stiff posture stooping slightly. He lashed out a hand to Velocity's shoulder and gripped her costume, squeezing her. "Yes, I can feel it...another..piece...oooh I don't feel so good...no...no..that's not it..I don't feel myself..." he said, turning his head away from Megan. "You alright back there, honey?" shouted Steed with a Jaunty wave. "We got the other piece, yeah? its all good? we can go home now? and I get the charges waved?" she asked.

  18. "OOooof!" responded Lord Steam, as the metal Fist caught him in the Sternum. He staggered back a few steps and dropped to his knees. His eyes crossed in pain. "I say chaps..." he wheezed with great effort, his face blue with effort and hypoxia "these fellows really do have a remarkable grasp of pugilism..." he hissed, his chest making sucking sounds as he fought to stay conscious and breathing. He focussed on gripping his Cane through suddenly sweaty palms in order to stop himself from falling over. "and I am reminded of the tensile strength of metal...*huuuuck huuuck* most resilient in the armour department...who would have guessed? *huuuck huuuck*" came the wheezing mimicry of laughter from his poor puffed cheeks. "oh dear the really did cause me quite considerable pain...." he whispered to himself.
  19. 1d20+7=19 A surprisingly not pulverised roll! Dazed and Bruised.
  20. "What the hell happened?" asked Pitch, shouting more than she intended and spilling smoke and flame from her mouth as she did. Literally...what the hell... She surveyed the scene, and Alex, wondering if the shock had shattered his mind and he had lost his grip on sanity. The man had seemed abnormally close to Archeron - and the murder had been brutal by anybodies standard. "Alex...what happened here... tell me...please...." she said, shifting back to her normal form, night clothes and all, and not caring a damn about her identity, legacy, secret, or indeed modesty. "I want to...I need to know what happened here. These things said they had been summoned to kill Archeron. And I want to know summoned them. Because they have his blood on his..or her hands..."
  21. OK so this kind of came about from discussion with Thev, Ari, Thunder King, and KnightD today. It had been stewing in my brain a while too. It's basically, how do we do better and retaining and encouraging new players to stick around? Ok, so I know we get a few dicks now and again, but if we could put aside those feelings - new players are I think the life blood of this site, and wherever we are now with them, it would be nice if we could have a little think about ways to get them more involved and make it easier for them to "Break in". Ideas thrown around were: 1. A roster of GMs who were willing to jump in and offer threads to new players as soon as they had their PC approved (sounds excellent, and maybe players offering up to team up?) 2. Possibly matching GMs to what player wants - in terms of preference for combat / drama / trauma / detective / angst / awesome / whatever? (difficult to do?) 3. 1 page Crib Sheet for up to date canon and the main teams in action such as Interceptors/Claremont/Lab/Parkhurst (Great idea, but problem is this is naming the Cliques? no harm in this however!) There may have been others too. I offer this up here rather than Refcave as I think its something everyone might have idea's on and everyone should pitch in on! I think it would be great if new players could get quickly and easily into the action rather than drift away fed up and frustrated.

I have no feelings on that either way to be honest. I'm not sure it really adds anything, but it doesn't really get in the way either. At the moment I am inclined to say unless it significantly adds to the relationship map, don't do it. Or rather, don't do it now. Let this stuff grow organically. I understand the urge to world-build the mythology, but I think it will be counter productive.
  23. Ok so lets fudge this a bit: M&M does not allow for called shots to certain areas. And its pretty fuzzy on combat in vehicles. However, let that not stop Agnes! To hit a tyre is not easy: a DC 25 Ranged Attack. She can AIM giving a +4 Bonus to the attack. However, this gives a risk of being seen by the following vehicle (a 50% chance) in which case, she can still fire, but they can react (fire back). A hit will burst a tyre (I wont roll a toughness for that). Its a DC 20 Drive Roll to keep vehicle under control. Of course you may wish to try other tricks or tactics - feel free to do so and I will adjudicate accordingly / give bonuses.
  24. GM Steed slapped down her Magazine with a sigh, and slinked over to the pilots seat. "Take it easy sweety" she said. Megan was not entirely sure whether she was talking to her, or Robert, or possibly both. She took over the controls and gently guided the Pegasus back up to a normal flight pattern, before smoothly pitching it to one side. "Look!" she said, indicating a fast moving signal on the scanner. It was now just visible through the window - a jet stream. Steed knew how to drive the Pegasus. She was a competent pilot, perhaps not expert, but she was brash and able, and had clearly not just been looking at magazines on the flight. She kicked the ship into full thrust, and in a few moments they had pulled up next to Hronos, keeping pace with him. "It's there...I could swear it..." said Robert, wiping his brow as he studied the flying Robot. Steed raised an eyebrow. "A robot? that beats everything. What is it? A robot from the future? that's a bit tacky!" she laughed. "I guess you are up" she said to Velocity without looking at her, giving her a nudge with her elbow.
  25. Ok, for prosperity let us roll initiatives! We have five Rune Cultists, who will use the Cultist archetype of M&M Core Rule Book. For Reference: Att +2, Def +2, Tough +2, Fort +4, Ref +0, Will +2, Dam +1 (STR 12), Init +0, Grapple +3 Equipment: Shovels (Improvised Weapon +2 Damage for +3 Total). 2 Carry Chainsaws! +6 Dam We also have the Cultist Leader, who is a custom enemy. Initiatives: 1d20+0=13 Cultists 1d20+2=22 Rune Leader Gauntlet (for he it is he!) is not yet active! Detective Chance's initiative: 1d20+6=22 as she has a higher initiative bonus than the Cult leader she wins tie. To note: The cave is low level light, and that is only due to the dim light of Goodmans flashlight and the two lights set up in the main cave. As such, unless people have appropriate super senses, everyone will be under partial concealment. The Cave and tunnel is cramped. Arcturus (and Gauntlet) will be flat footed due to their high Size. Goodman is not engaging in combat. Arcturus smells Magic on Detective Chances unusual, antiquated steel revolver now she has it drawn.
