GM Even later... It would be dawn in a few hours. The night had been long, but for the tireless undead it mattered not. The vampire caught in Revenants grasp was not keen to "shop" his girlfriend, but he was keen to save his life. The dead were heartless. Perhaps that was what the Master wanted to rectify. Where did the creature lead them. Back to the High Steaks! "The Master bought the place...gambling...food...a rich source of experimentation! people desperate for money and power, people with nothing less to lose...people on the edge...it is not just bodies he studies, but minds too! hahaha!" To the vampire, humans were nothing more than petri dish bacteria. The High Steaks building was shut now. The shattered window boarded up. A lone security guard on the lowest floor. It looked cold and empty. As a gambling venue, it kept going until 3am, but it was past even that now - with even the stragglers having retired. "He owns the building" sniggered the Vampire, desperate now. "Time for you to let me go?"

NPC "Hi Sam, c'mon in!" said the Mess, cheerfully, unlocking both reinforced doors to their office to let the prosecutor in. Harry was busy shaving. Goddam it...why do I always have stubble...no matter how hard I shave...grows like hell...must be that dog curse on me.... "Dammit" he swore as he cut himself. His hands still shook slightly from the adrenaline of the night before. "Hi Sam!" he said, dabbing his cut throat. "Take a seat...no not there...some pizza from the day before...it's a bit fresh..." he said, wrinkling his nose. The Bloodhound Detective Agency, like Harry, was always vaguely untidy and messy. Their cleaner, Gemma, had her work cut out for her. "How are you doing? You gave us a good case yesterday, my friend. Sealed up in a day! How's about that for efficiency!"

Harry gulped, a bit unsure how to respond to an attractive police officer who had promptly detoxified his views on the officers of the law. "Sure, officer" said Mess, looking up and giving a grin. Perhaps he flexed his biceps a bit more than strictly necessary when gesticulating. "We was hired by this dame, Eliska. She and her husband got hit by the perp, he burned down their store in the Fens. We reckon it was the mob round here, ya see? they got an extortion racket goin' on. Used that dude to burn down any place that wern't payin' up..." He rolled on the balls of his feet, giving himself an extra inch of height. "Anyways, you guys reckoned it was her husband. Guess you guys reckoned wrong huh? haha" he said in a laugh that was close to a giggle. "She got to hiring us, to look into da matter! and we cracked it, heh, Harry!" "That's right, officer, what he said..." mumbled Harry, not wanting to look too directly at an attractive woman detective. He loosened his tie and did it up again - simply for something to do with his fingers.
-
"Guess they have in hand then..." said Mess, sorrowfully. Without thinking, he took his beer from behind his back to swig away a little portion of sadness. "I can stop bleeding...but if he is in hospital, they can transfuse him. Probably not a whole lot more I can do for the guy. If there was, I would be in the trauma unit all day helpin' people out...but, never know, I might swing over there anyhow..." He threw his empty bottle, with impressive accuracy, into a trash can a few yards away. "Well, she might know what happened then. Crime's been committed, gotta stop the perp, eh? Give him some justice...." he concluded, banging his fist into his palm. With a burp, he wandered off, giving his partner a call. "Harry, we gotta case...some guy with a metal mask...murder...I'm off to see the wife and the victim at the hospital...gotta dash..." With that, he started running, his mighty legs fuelled by his spectacular blood pushing him to superhuman speeds. Effortlessly propelling himself down the streets, he made his way to the hospital... "Make sure she can pay us!" yelled an unheard Hound down his phone.

OK! So first off, Scuffs, that post was so awesome I am giving you an HP for entertaining everybody. For tracking purposes: El Heraldo - 3 HP - Fatigued Glow - 3 HP Second - we are of course coming to the end of the thread. El Sierpe has been great! (for me anyway). Broadly speaking this can conclude with words and a legal parting of ways, or a brawl and borderline breaking the law. I am caught between the two, not sure how El Sierpe would respond. He is a cunning devil, but on the other hand Glow made and awesome inflammatory speech. So I am throwing it out to you guys. Do you want to walk away? Do you want a fight? Do you want a legal issue (if not in the courts, then in your heart), Do you want El Sierpe as a nemesis in the future plotting his revenge with the Devil Doctor from Mexico? I cant promise everything (as the dice and play sometimes spin things off course, quite rightly!) but what are your thoughts on the story of Glow and Heraldo?

Freddy scratched his head, wishing he had disposed of the beer bottle behind him before he had strolled up. His breath probably smelt of booze a bit. Shouldn't get to close. Harry will know what to do... ..but he ain't here. I am. Time to do my job! Metal mask...Metal mask...didn't I hear about some guy...dammit, I can't remember... "If I can help, I will, officer" he explained, given a smile below a broken nose. "Is that guy...Noble...ok? maybe I can patch him up? I ain't no doc, but...yeah I got this ability to stop bleeding, see? kinda handy when bullets and knives start flying around..." He gave a half shrug. Anywhere else, it would have been hard to swallow. But this was Freedom City. "They call me Bloody Mess, on account of that. Yeah, I guess it can get a bit messy too..." he conceded. "But I can stop anyone bleeding out. And then, I guess me and my partner, we could take a look at what happened here..."
-
NPC "Here come the boys in blue..." muttered Harry. He had a mixed relationship with them. On the one hand, he had trod the streets with them as a police officer himself. On the other hand, they were not as smart as he was, too official, and had, ultimately kicked him out of the force. Unruly dress code indeed... he thought to himself bitterly as he tightened up his crumpled tie to make him marginally less scruffy. "Hello officers! no need to keep those weapons raised! we are unarmed!" he said as clearly as he could. Fortunately the Mess was looking a little more 'normal' now his veins had popped back into a relatively correct appearance. "Private Eyes, and appointed deputees, H. Hound and F. Furlong" he explained as the police started the procedures. "We were investigating the series of arsons in the Fens. Caught this here man red handed, officer! Here, some grenades...and, errr...a gun of some sort...I wouldn't fire it if I was you, officer. Take care!" He handed over the items dutifully, and proceeded to explain the situation, carefully hinting the forensics teams might look for a certain accelerant on Firebug and at the arson site...

Another spare 30 minutes avoiding chores and stuff: Here is the rundown on the occupations and wealth of our PC's! I have ordered this in terms of the benefit (wealth) and complication (struggling). I have made a very vague and arbitrary attempt to list the categories in terms of how much they earn - although it is very hard to do so. However, it probably makes sense for instance that a university lecturer earns more than a steelworker. M&M isn't very granular when it comes to wealth (a good thing!) - however I though it might be interesting to look at where our players stand, particularly the high end. I have also done my best to summarise occupations (and again, apologies for any errors or liberties I have taken). There were some (mainly in the normal wealth category) who I simply couldn't assign an occupation to. I was rather surprised we have nineteen students! people grow out of Claremont Academy and get jobs, after all! Without further ado! Billionaire Club (Wealth 3) Doktor Archeville (Inventor, former CEO) Asad (Heir, Businessman) Fenris (Aristocrat, Inventor) Sage (Heiress) Lord Steam (Aristocrat, Inventor) Millionaire Club (Wealth 2) Ironclad (Inventor) Stormbreaker (Space Pirate) Omen (Heir) Adamas (Heir) Velocity (Heiress) Midnight (Heir) Jubatus (Businessman) Rene (Artist) Gina Evans (Computer Programmer) Rich (Wealth 1) Young Britannia (Musician) Rift (Musician) Supercape (Professor / University Lecturer) Silver Spider (Scientist) Crimson Tiger (Heiress) Getting by (Standard) Dragonfly Wave-Eye Hronos Willow Lady Winter Scholar Protectron Citizen Wander (Head of security) Harrier (Deputy Head of Security) Victory (AEGIS agent) Philothorian (Alien Zookeeper) Comrade Frost (Hero Liason) Gaian Knight (University Lecturer) Equinox (University Lecturer) Fulcrum (Artist) Edge (UNISON agent) Revenant (Lawyer) Siphon (Reporter) Bloody Mess (Private Eye) Jack of all Blades (Self Defence Instructor) Voltage (Computer Technician) Catalyst (Lab assistant) Arrowhawk (Lab assistant) Solar Sentinel (Firefighter) Wail (Teacher) Crusader (Teacher) Gabriel (Teacher) Nick Cimitiere (Barista) Fleur de Joie (Florist) Cannonade (Steelworker) Heraldo (Grocery store worker) Geckoman (Student) Arcturus (Student) Errant (Student) Tsunami (Student) Warp (Student) Beekeeper III (Student) Blue Jay (Student) Temperance (Student) Blodeuwedd (Student) Kit (Student) Glow (Student) Net Fly (Student) Starlight (Student) Papercut (Student) Ghost Girl (Student) Wraith (Student) Myrmidon (Student) Wisp (Student) Cobalt Templar (Student) Nickels and Dimes (Struggling as a named complication) Silhouette (Freelancer) Overclock (Musician) King of Suits (Janitor) Crow (Student) Synth (Odd Jobs) Changeling Dead Head

1d20+7=19!

Freddy strolled down the street, holding a bottle of beer in his hand. It was a cool night, but he only wore a t shirt and jeans. He didn't often make his way out of the Fens, at least, not for drinking, but after the spate of arson attacks in the Fens, he sometimes felt the need to get out to a 'cleaner' part of town. Of course, some fool had decided to make fun of his height, until Freddy had lifted the man clean of his feet with one arm and asked him if he liked height so much, maybe he would like to be dropped of a tall building. That shut him up, but got him kicked out of the bar. Still, it ain't so bad... he told himself. We cracked a few cases, we helped a few people, we doin' okay...guess I'm being a real detective, huh? he whistled to himself. "Evenin' officers!" he said, tucking his beer behind him as he came across the scene of the crime. "Can I help? I'm...a deputy and everything..." he said with a broad grin.

Dont worry, thats cool. In my view GM has choice here! I think the reason UP changed was a) Drain was way overpowered (it could cripple a character with one shot failing by 1), and they wanted staged effects for it, like pretty much every other effect. I think you can see the reason why! Ill wait for Mysterious figures IC post!

NPC "Oh man..." sighed the Hound, as he spluttered the remaining contents of the fire extinguisher over the remaining fire. "Sir, no need to panic. We are legally deputised members of..." "The hell with it..." he finished, dropping the fire extinguisher with a resounding clang. "Mess, pick up that pyromaniac and lets get out of here before that man sets the whole police force on us..." "Pick up the what?" said Mess, who was already dragging the man out of the back door. "Yeah, and, get into your body will ya? you look creepy like that..." he added, patting down the last remainders of smouldering items. Outside... Bloody Mess left Firebug on the sidewalk, under the watchful gaze of the Hound, and slinked back into his body, which swelled like a balloon until Freddy was back to 'normal' - if a five foot two slab of meat could be deemed normal.
-
"Nice work!" acknowledged the Mess, as Firebug went crashing down onto his rear. This is my chance... "Two-bit, are we?" he scoffed at Firebug. "What does that make you, then? some kind of gutter life scum who can't even handle a pair of no-good private eyes? how's sitting on your backside feel?" He propelled himself into the air. "Well, I guess you have plenty of time ahead in prison to think about that, chum!" he laughed. "Cos' that's where your heading once I knock your block off! What goes up..." He plummeted down to inflict a two handed pummel on Firebug. "Must come down!"

Tagging for mess!

Right then! lets go for broke! Another Feint 1d20+5=16 And then, a fully shifted power attack. Its +7 nase, and then I guess +4 for the opponent being prone! 1d20+11=28 That should do! DC 28 Toughness
-
NPC "Attaboy!" shouted the Hound in encouragement as the Mess socked Firebug one more time. He stopped squirting the foam for a second, less concerned now some of the flames had died down and one of those pesky imps had been snuffed out. He was more concerned about the arsonist in front of him. "Firebug, you ain't got a chance! Bloody Mess has taken on tougher than you, I can tell ya!" he said in a broad and loud voice, hoping to instil some fear into the man. "He's taken on...err...." he floundered "...some mobsters...and...errr...some bikers!" he added. "Oh to hell with it!" he cursed to himself. He never was much good at hard talk. Instead, he grasped the fire extinguisher with both hands and stepped forward, ducked, and threw the steel cylinder in a steep arc, hoping to sweep the man's legs from under him.
-
Ok so Hound is going to use the fire extinguisher as an improvised weapon - not to hurt, but to trip him! Standard Action: 1d20+10=22 is, I guess, a hit. So its opposed roll (opposed by worst of his Strength or Dex/Acrobatics). 1d20+7=20 for opposed trip roll. Move Action: For the hell of it, Ill try a -5 intimidate! 1d20-3=1...no!
-
"He's my partner!" replied the Mess, slopping away beneath Firebug. Damned if I can't get that gun off him. If I only had some proper fingers... he cursed, curling his bloody digits into fists once again. Things got sloppy when he was like this. Sloppy, and messy. He could feel the trail of blood he had left behind begin to boil and smell. It wasn't a particularly nice smell, even to him. Poor Harry's nostrils must be curling.. he thought, remembering his partners acute sense of smell. "And there ain't nuthin' two-bit about us!" he explained, as he slopped to one side, then sprang up like a wind up spring, full of power and force, spinning a double fist into his adversary. "We are Bloody Mess and the Hound! and yer wont forget it!"
-
Ok so the Mess is back up, and he is going to bam this guy good! 1d20+5=24 is a good feint, So lets shift to +3 DC, -3 Attack 1d20+9=15 oh crud! well, it may hit with the feint. If so, a DC 26 toughness save.
-
No wish to be a rules lawyer here, but I think after UP, that drains affect 1 point per failure of the opposed roll (in this case 1 CON)? If you want to play it a CON drop to 2, go ahead - I just point this out - I think it was felt that drain was a little to powerful as it stood, and they wanted a staged effect, hence the UP change. (My memory may serve me badly of course!) Anyway, let me know - I don't want to be a dick about this. Consider this a memory jog rather than a rule. Your the GM here, its your call!
-
NPC "Yoikes! It's getting hot in here!" spluttered the hound, noticing the bottom of his coat had started smoking. He briefly squirted some foam onto his coat before redirecting the stream back onto the animated flames that Firebug had brought forth. "Hey, bozo!" he yelled at Firebug, whilst unleashing the foam in a concentrated stream. "You ain't gonna be such hot stuff when Captain Freeze arrives!" he bluffed, giving a short chortle. "What, you never heard of him?" he asked. "Russian guy, very big in Siberia. I'm sure he can take you on a short trip there if you never seen it. I here it gets above minus twenty in the summer, so don't worry!"
-
ok, so Hound, in the absence of any better ideas, will keep on squirtin'! Standard Action: Squirt! 1d20+10=21 for attack roll. 1d20+6=12 well, thats probably another rubbish opposed roll, but anyway! Move action: Taunt to intimidate (shake) Firebug for one round. To avoid dissapointment, Ill use skill mastery on that, take 10 for a 20 result.
-
"Cool it!" responded the Mess, as some foam hit his bubbling form. He returned his attention to Firebug. "I can't let you burn down this building, not for nobody! I'm going to stop you no matter what it takes!" he said - as much to himself as anybody else. His eyes peeled over to the hand cannon that Firebug had strapped to him. With a leap and a bound, he was onto his opponent once again, this time trying to wrestle the gun from the incendiary insect. "No more tricks, no more bombs, and no more guns!" he explained, his slippery bloody form leaving his characteristic mess all over Firebugs (admittedly less than clean) clothes.
-
Ok lets try to disarm the dude. 1d20+12=24 is, I guess, a hit. Opposed roll (according to house rules, adding his +4 super strength bonus) [NB] So thats a +12 opposed roll (against Firebugs Strength) 1d20+12=16 not so good.
