1. GM "Hrmph..." muttered the man. "I guess a throw of the dice then..." The man strutted off, shoulders squared, leaning forward, trying to project the image of a tough guy. Too add to the effect, he loudly muttered something about betting more money that the "damn waiters make in a year". A man in a white dinner jacket, observing the interaction, gave a tsk of dissaproval as he passed by. "Never mind him. Dice is a game of luck, about the only game a man like that can play. What a cesspool this place is, huh? But I gotta check out the competition. Say, if you ever want a better job, come to the High Steaks. I'll see what I can do... but just watch your step round here, kid. Don't want to be on the wrong end of a tommy gun when you finish your shift." The man gave a little salute and passed Luke by, sitting down at a poker table and expertly flipping cards. Meanwhile, the golden hoard was still golden and still a hoard. Luke could see a few stair cases downwards, but this seemed to be where the big name thugs came and went, some drunk, some flush, some broke. It was also where the gold was piled high. Ready to be plucked... ...but who would do the plucking???
2. GM Tazel burned into sight, living flame shaped like a skeleton. The pale smoke of candlelight kept them invisible to those pedestrians strolling past. The lock burned, melted. Puma could see that Tazel's fires were strong, but they still lacked a ferocity, a substance. It took a minute to melt the lock. And Tazel was not so precise as one would have liked. A hand of living flame was in the lock, melting it from the inside. But the door was wood. By the time the lock melted off, and the door swung open, the door was smoking. It was on fire. Inside, the alarm systems were quiet - for now. They were set to detect break ins. And there were smoke alarms...
3. Rev "...And the tweets of the birds go twitty twit twoo!" Rev finished her cute song with a smile. She couldn't quite believe it. Where the hell had that song come from? By luck rather than judgement every note had been on point. Adrenaline had given birth to inspiration. The only down down side was that she would have the song And the tweets of the birds go twitty twit twoo in her head for days. Possibly longer. She shuddered. She gave a thumbs up to Rick. He seemed like a decent sort. The kinda decent sort you wouldn't trust. Hell, she had been around enough crooked car salesmen to know the type when she saw one. She spent half her life piecing together heaps ouf junk that distraught owners had been sold. "I need to see Pete. Pete Moss" she said. "Somebody wants him to hear the tweet song. Thought it might cheer him up. Or perhaps mock him. I dunno. But that's what I'm paid to do!"
4. Ok lets burn my solitary HP to get Perform Singing 5 (+8) If I can take 10 on that I will, but sounds like its a stress situation so, Singing: 1d20+8 28
5. GM In London, the time was past midnight. The square outside the British Museum had its share of pedestrians, of sightseers, and people coming home from a night of eating, drinking, music and art. But it was still late, even for a busy city. Too late for the Museum to be open. They were invisible to camera and man, but the doors remained locked. "What do you want me to do know?" sneered Juan, spying a get out. "Make a skeleton key out of a candle?" "I can burn it off" said invisible Tazel. "I have no physical form, for I just fire and flame. I can slip through the cracks, but I can't open it from the other side." La Puma could hear a curious sound. Like a fiery tongue licking fiery lips. "Of course I could just burn down the whole thing. Fire is lovely!"
6. GM "De Graveyard. Lantern Hill...." Latern Hill, the graveyard of Freedom City. Nobody had been buried there for 80 years. Maybe they ran out of space. Maybe the pernicious tales of spookiness had permeated the gestalt consciousness to such a degree that nobody wanted to bury anyone there. Would you want to come back as a ghost? Would you want your relative to? If Machete Max was going to create Zombies, Latern Hill would be a good place to start. The three Yardies shuddered. "Zombi armi all dubblegood and yah. Bu' still...." "...Zombi iz sombi..." "...And zombi is dubblebad spookah!" Another three shudderes. One of them pointed their Machete and Chimera. "Ya no tell Max boot nuthin, we firgit yah heer. Ya be on ya way now, and we say double nuthin aboot it..." The other two nodded empathically.
7. GM The high fives stopped, the smiles waned, the shuffling off feet began. "Max be dem leader of Machete Max gangnam style" "...op! op! op op op! Machete Max style!" rapped the other two. "Max bring de corpse without dem 'edd. He makin us zombi army!" "Bodi become zombi!" "Yah. Bigstyle yah! We can't lose now! Cut dowm em Mafia boys!" "Tripleyah!" screamed the jubilant trio. "Max be gone. Took dem car and dem body. Lucky you. Nobody can be messin' with Machete Max! Not before, and defo not now. Now, 'e got zombi army!"
8. GM "Camera's! Of course!" gasped Juan, blabbering as though both lips were a pair of jellied eels. "We can't possibly go in! Camera's! We have to abandon ship... Demon, take us back to Freedom City, this venture is doomed... we can then part ways and never see each other again. Thats the best course of action and the best course of action is that. Its the course of action that is the best, I am sure..." From another mouth this might well have sounded santastic, but the white faced Juan was gabbering and convorting like a delirious chimpanzee. Not even he knew what was coming out of his mouth, which seemed to have taken a life of its own. "Fool!" hissed Tazel. "I am invisible but you are not... I could burn the camera's if you wish, but that would surely alert them. No! You have your candles, conjure for us a cloud of obscurement!" "Please, can't we just..." "NO!" Sighing, Juan took out a white wax candle from his jacket and zippo lighter from his pants. WIth a click, he set the candle alight. A small, flame, a belch of pale smoke, and suddenly their was mist all around. The Museum, the buildings, the pedestrians and cars, even the stars - they all looked weak, partially translucent. "There we are, we are beyond mortal eyes!" said Juan, his face fighting a chaotic battle between pride and panic.
9. GM "Bodi? We ain't nobodi?" "Nobodi, nobodi, ain't nobodi!" "We ain't seeing da bodi dat Machete Max brought through 'ere, day's for sure!" The other two nodded emphatically. "Dat's right! You can't prove we see da bodi we saw!" "Prove it!" The three standing Yardies seemed to think they had successfully outwitted Chimera with their advanced legal reasoning. "'E 'ave our backhides we speak!" said one, putting finger to his lips. "Yah be yah! Bigtime freaki! Brotha wit' no head! Shazam, lykit cam off witda Machete from Max 'imself! Neva seen no corpse like dat. 'It badtime waytogah!" More nods. "Bes' we don't toungewag bootit... bes' we don't even tink bootit..." added another, sadly. "Tink aboot wat?" asked another with a big grin. The other two scratched their heads until one got it. "Ah! Ya dasrigh' tink aboot wat?" They high fived, congratulating themselves with their advanced psychotherapeutic reasoning.
10. GM The Yardie flew across the room, colliding with the opposite wall. His machete spun with him, and embedded itself just above his head, cutting off a few dreadlocks as it did. "Wat ya doin' man, kickin mebelli lik dat' bigtime hurtin' I be. I dink' I be passin' art..." With the wise words of reflection, his head sagged and he slumped to the floor. The three remaining Yardies paused, machetes still in hand. Chimera was bleeding, true, but two of them were on the floor. They were bold, but something told them to stop and usin' 'eadbox fer sissec. I mean, ahem, something told them o stop and think. "Wha yer like bigman wit' big messels, girly. Never seen nut' like dat. What ya juicin' on... yer com 'ere to makin da deal?" They looked at eachother. "You on roidies? Boost? Zoom?" "We can be mekkin deal. Machete Max aalweyz good fer da makin' dem deal!"
11. GM Greed is good! Came the whispers from the infinite Gods of greed, envy, and gold. And they were not wrong - greed was in this case very good for locating the gold. As Luke had expected, it was on the lower level. And... ...the Size! It was indeed a fortune. Highest quality solid gold. Heaps of it. "I say, boy." said short short, fat, man with a Cigar and a Zoot suit. He had backcombed hair and heavy jowels, but Luke could tell he had plenty of muscles under his suit, and plenty of callouses on his knuckles. "I order my Lobster sandwiches 10 minutes ago. Still not here. What are you doing loitering about? Get to the boiling!" The man tapped his cigar into his empty champagne glass, eyeing one of the crapshoot tables and pondering how lucky he felt.
12. thats just -1 afaik; -1 to non lethal, -1 to lethal. Will take longer to heal though Tough: 1d20+2 17 which would in fact save, but I forgot they have no armour so tough is actually +1, and the roll is 16, and another KO. Lets pause combat here. 2 Yardies KO, and although Chimera is bleeding, the odds are looking in her favour.
13. GM Nobody bothered the new chef. If he was walkin', he had business. And nobody wanted to interrupt business. They were too busy frying, backing, roasting, and chopping. If Luke was so inclined, he would have a vast array of kitchen knives to pilfer, and possibly to stab and cut his way through the casino hall. But Luke had plenty of other weapons of a less obvious nature - claw and fang among them. The Main Casino Hall was dimly lit by chandeliers and spinning disco balls. It had an orange tone; maybe the lighting, maybe the carpet, maybe the paints of gold and red. Poker, Blackjack, Roullette. Rows of one armed bandits lining the wall. The gamblers were all wearing neat suits; but there was a slight air of faux-style dotted here and there. Thugs, Mafia, what have you. They might wear bow ties but they could not disguise a lingering awkwardness, a need to over compensate by gaudy flashes of ill gotten wealth. Men and women with brains and cruelty, backed up by larger men with big hands, ready to deliver pugilistic violence at a word from their bosses. There were vigilant security guards too, dressed to blend in, eyes darting left right and centre - not so much to avoid a brawl or gunfight, but for a more serious crime; cheating the house. Their were stairs up, to the restaurant, a door to the stage were a crooner was crooning a love song, and stairs down - to the belly of the beast, were the casino management were presumably based. Complete with a "STAFF ONLY" sign.
14. GM "Be see now, nobodi mess wit' Machete brother, we be carvin em up like spaghetti doin' da waltz! Hehehehe!" The other three Yardies looked at their crazed "Brother" "Wat da hell kinda speekin be dat? Spaghetti for da Mafia!" "Exac! We carve up Mafia like dey spaghetti!" "Sound flip stoopid, dat watya soondin, mon. Smokin too much da spicy spicy frazzlestick!" "Wot a frazzlestick? Ya makin up da lippyspeak on da spot!" "So be you, so be I, so be we. All be makin lippyspeak on da slippyslop jizzleboom!" The four Yardies looked at each other, each with a growing realisation that - even by their high standards - they were talking gibberish that nobody could understand. Perhaps this lead to a slightly clearing of the mind. Slower know, they spread out and carefully encircled Chimera. "Now you feeling splitty chop, girli, you telling us wat fool sent ya. Den mebbe you keep all yer fingers, all yer toes!"
15. So to keep track Chimera - 1 HP - Bruised, Injured
16. No problem. Lets say the Yardies - this round - finally slow down and coordinate, with all four of them now circling Chimera, Giving her a chance to fight, bluff, or dance - Chimera is up again!
17. GM The locker room smelled of old clothes, spices, herbs, and detergent, all fighting for supremacy. It would take quite a well to disentangle all the odours as they battled in the nostril, and other things were afoot. The lockers were locked, but made of metal so thin it that for Luke, they could be torn and warped like tin foil. Breaking in did not require effort, and was relatively subtle - a tear here, a bend there. Sure, if someone looked carefully, it would look broken. To a casual glance, it looked innocuous. Fortunately, it took only three "adjustments" to the lockers until Luke found something his side. Maybe the chef's hat was a little too big, maybe the chef's jacket had sleeves a little too short. But it was a minor thing, and the costume looked entirely reasonable when on. Luke was now a chef, complete with puffed up hat and a clean white robe. There was even a rolling pin and a spatula in the locker, if he wanted to complete the image...
18. GM "Hey, lost, hmmm? wha...?" The cook dropped his cigarrette and screwed it into the ground with his shoe. Perhaps the girl was a distraction. But what really distracted him was being a chef and smoking. Even outside. "Yeah, sure. Lost. Right...." he continued, slowly getting control of his tongue as he adjusted to being caught. "I mean. Lost, sure. How can I help? Where do you want to get to, ma'am? This here is the Kitchens. You don't want to go in their unless you fancy getting truffle fat on your dress." "Sure" copied the girl, as if the word was infectious. "I mean, sure, I don't want to get the dress ruined. But my, sure does smell good?" "It does? I mean... yes it does. Can't smell it myself, nose full of tobac...I mean, can't smell it myself, it all blends into one after a days work." shrugged the Chef. The illusion gave a cheery wave and a "thankyou" and walked off around the corner, only to dissapear in a puff of illusionary smoke. For Nightscale had made his way into the Kitchens. It did indeed smell like an orchestra of flavours, for the most part good. This was an expensive place that served expensive food. In front of him was a flurry of waiters and chefs all busy at work. To engrossed to notice Luke sneak in, but... for how long? On the other side of the kitchen Luke saw the door to the main gambling floor, swinging wildly with activity, offering glimpses of the glitz, glamour, and fortunes beyond.
19. Rev Ooops! Metal Detector! That wasn't good. Because Rev was aproximately 48.197634% metal. Aproximately. "Singing Telegram for Mr. Pete Moss!" Singing Telegram? Where the hell did that come from? I should have been delivering Pizza. Singing Telegram? I would have been better off pretending to be selling underwater candles. It was the first thing that had come into her head, and Lexa Venn tended to go with the first thing that came into her head. "That's right!" she proclaimed. After all, if she had one foot in the silage, she may as well put the other in. "I know its a bit old fashioned, but singing telegram it is! Could you please get Mr. Pete Moss? Someone paid a lot of money for a...uh...sexy mechanic singing telegram!" she said with a smile that was too smiley to be a smile. In the meantime, she started working out what the lyrics would be... happy birthday? Merry Christmas? I love you? Alternatively, she could throw a fireball and hope for the best. But this place had camera's, and she didn't want to be on the bad side of the Iron Talon. Well, maybe she did. But it wasn't wise to be on the bad side of the Iron Talon. Rev was at least wise enough to know when she was being unwise, but not enough to stop herself.
20. GM "Candlekeeper!" roared Tazel to the quivering wreck that was Juan. "Perform this task or I will roast you alive and dance on your ashes! Take us to the British Museum!" "Wha..." gabbled Juan. "...I can't...I mean, I just make candles!" "The pale smoke you make with your candles can take any form. Create an illusion of the museum!" "I've never been... I mean... I have no idea what it looks like!" "I was born millenia ago from steel and fire. Even I know of a thing called the internet! Use a search engine of your choice! You see, we demons do so like free will. Delicious!" "You aren't giving me much free will right now...." whispered Juan. "Of course I am! You may create an image of the British Museum, or you may delight in the way your skin crisps and your fat pops when you are burning!" "Gaaahh!!!" managed Juan, trying to force out a sound from a bone dry throat. His shaking hands pulled out his mobile and after several fumbles, he brought out an image of the British Museum. From there, with a wave of his hand, the pale smoke crystalized once more into a perfect replica of the British Museum. "Behold! All fires and all irons are linked in the Infernal forge!" roared Tazel, as the smoke illusion started burning, sucking in the air, sucking in Juan and La Puma... ...and then they were in London, outside the British Museum, the pale smoke puffing off their bodies. "And I am right here" hissed Tazel, invisible once more. Juan leaned over to La Puma and whispered "we have to get rid of him... you're a hero, right?"

Thanks Fox. Added in the proper KB. I corrected the overpayment and underpayment of the devices that lead to a total of 122pp That brings it to 1pp overspent, so I lost the search skill. Should now tally up.
22. GM "I.... I can't" gabbled Jaun, putting his hands up in defence. "Please don't hurt me! Self-Defence! Eight ammendment! Right to Life! Errr.... what's the eight ammendment again? That's the one people use, right? Or is it the nineteenth? Wait... I please the whole constitution! That covers all bases!" he said with a smile and a solitary finger pointed upwards in inspiration. "Your candles made them. They can unmake them" spat Tazel, his burning body smoking now, a thick, acidic and sulfuric smoke. "How?" A creature of pure fire couldn't really sigh, but Tazel gave a good impression, and then smashed his fiery fists into his fiery head. "You are an IDIOT!" he snarled at Juan. "Curse my fortunes. You seem to be competent when it goes against me, and incompetent when I need you! Bah!" He turned to Puma. "The Devil stick is currently residing in the British Museum. Unless you have a jet, or can fly, it is best we traverse by... other means...."
23. GM The inexperience showed this time - but one learns from failure, not success! The machete slipped out of her grasp, the ragged edge dragging across her palm. By luck rather than accident the Yardie holding the machete flipped the direction of the machete as it escaped, and ran it across not only her hand but up the length of her arm. The only consolation was his accidental agility was also accidentaly clumsy - he shoved the other Yardie to one side. "Crik mastyle mon! Be givvin' us all chop chop tim' we be gangly, no' Errol Flynn...!" The other two Yardies paused a moment to clap the fluke swordsmanship of the Yardie who sliced Chimera. They all smiled. "Tree' cheeringz fada Machete Max gang!"

Echohead

Echohead Power Level: 10 (240/248 PP) Unspent Power Points: 8 pp Trade-Offs: -2 Tough / +2 Defence In Brief: Mind stealing agent of AEGIS Catchphrase: "Forget it!" Theme: Boiling Point Alternate Identity: Umberto Velluti Birthplace: Rome Residence: Freedom City Base of Operations: Freedom City Occupation: Gardener / Garden shop owner Affiliations: AEGIS Family: Lucia Velluti (Mother, Retired Hairdresser) Description: Age: 45 Apparent Age: 45 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5’5” Weight: 55Kgs Eyes: Brown Hair: None Umberto is a short, weedy man, quite bald, with a large nose and a weak chin. His is ugly to the point of borderline dysmorphia. He does have a certain sense of style, however, wearing expensive suits and sunglasses (he loves black) History: Umberto was always the bullied kid at school. The first to get beaten up, the last to get picked at a team. He was short, weedy, and bald since birth and had a faint Italian accent (his family moved to Freedom City when he was six). This was compounded by being smart and by having a doting, overbearing mother (who, ironically, was a hairdresser). Umberto grew up always feeling like he was supressing something. He had a knack of understanding people and their motivations which he put down to intuition. He made a reasonable business selling plants and garden appliances in his shop. Until, one day, a retired AEGIS agent came into his shop to purchase some plants for his retirement home. Umberto had a flash of paranoia, and then…bang! He was inside the agent’s head. It turned out that Umberto was a psychic who had repressed his powers all his life. His paranoia had forced his unconscious powers to the conscious! He was debriefed by AEGIS, and it was then both AEGIS and Umberto saw opportunity. AEGIS would have much to gain from Umberto's power Equally, Umberto he had always harboured dreams of being a spy, a secret agent, or a superhero, but being a 5’5” weed with no training and an overbearing mother, he had no opportunity. So, Umberto would get basic training, equipment, and clearance. And AEGIS would make sure they kept an eye on him and call on him if they needed his special skills. Personality & Motivation: Echohead has always wanted a life of adventure and excitement and this is his primary motivation. However, he also has a lot of sympathy for the underdog, and cannot abide bullies or autocrats (whilst also being terrified of them). He is an introverted yet friendly man, but conceals a lingering sense of low self-esteem. He is particularly fond of food and has a love of plants, flowers, and gardens. He relaxes in his own garden and grows his own vegetables. Powers & Tactics: Echohead can “steal” other peoples thoughts or neurological functioning. He can make people ignore something, paralyse parts of (or all of) their body, or forget skills. As well as “deleting” such abilities (albeit transiently), he can “copy” someone into his head, getting their skills and mental abilities. The copy does linger as an “echo” which can be distracting or even (if a strong personality) dangerous. Echohead will usually try to win conflicts by selectively disabling his targets. He prefers to avoid conflict if possible, and will use whatever subtleties he can to do so. Due to a combination of psychic sensitivity, fear, and experience, Umberto is unconsciously able to anticipate conscious attacks from human (or those with human-ish minds) and evade them. This does however make him vulnerable to aliens, animals, robots, traps etc, as well as human (ish) adversaries that have mental concealment or are acting unconsciously / unpredictably (for instance, a bezerk rage or confused). Umberto utilises high tech AEGIS equipment to compensate for his lack of physical skills or abilities. He wears bulletproof clothing, and carries an AEGIS “Variable pistol” if he needs to combat psychic-resistant enemies. Power Descriptions: Echoheads psychic powers are not visible or detectable. His “Variable Pistol” has a variety of different appearances depending on description. The pistol itself is black, fairly lightweight, but rather bulky (like a handgun with a rugby ball sized barrel). Complications: Ugly Umberto is outstandingly ugly. He is not good at making good first impressions, although he has a very memorable face that easily stands out in a crowd, hard to forget, and tricky to disguise. Puppet: Any “Echo” stored in his head has the lingering will of the original. For the most part this is, at worst, distracting. However, progressively strong-willed copies might limit the use of their skills at a critical time, or cause him to freeze or tic or speak inappropriately Exceptionally strong copies might even take control of Umberto for a while. Loose Tongue: When nervous, Umberto tends to gabble. He might reveal information, or say the wrong thing, or speak his mind completely inappropriately! Migraines: Umberto has a tendency to suffer intense migraines. Bright light and stress can set them off, and render him virtually helpless. Sunglasses help, and he takes medication to limit them, but of course he can be without sunglasses and medication and there is plenty of stress around. Sometimes, mental strain (such as extra effort) can trigger them. Easily Shaken: At the end of the day, Umberto is a coward; or, more precisely, he has grown up being bullied and downtrodden and he can easily revert to this mindset. Skilled intimidators or psychologists could have a field day manipulating and scaring him – despite his high will save and sense motive skill. A bully will still make him tremble. Calibration needed: whilst Echohead can "copy" physical skills (or even feats) like acrobatics, climb, and swim using them is another matter. If the copied body is of significantly different size shape or strength, it will take him a little practice to "calibrate" the acquisition of this skill to his own body. This could take a minute for minor differences, or a few hours for major differences in body shape.
