1. GM The Whiskey was smooth, by the standards of a whiskey conneseur. By the standards of a young man unused to it, it tasted like sandpaper on the throat. Smooth sandpaper, perhaps. But still, sandpaper was sandpaper. The final card was turned. Another king. Blowfish could not help but raise his eyebrows. His jowels wobbled with another tic. Five kings. Two in his hand. three on the table. Blowfish looked left and right. Whilst he was no cheating, he realised he looked like he was cheating. Someone was setting him up. His eyes worked their way back to the massive pot of chips. His forehead did the calculations - getting caught "cheating", getting his hands on the cash. He tossed his King into the centre of the table. "Four kings, boys. Pots mine!" Greed had won. And Luke could sense greed flowing around the table. "Cheat! Show us your other card!" "Calling me a liar?" It escalated in seconds. Fortunately no guns were drawn, but suddenly all four gamblers and all four bodyguards were wrestling with each other, trying to grab cards, trying to grav poker chips, trying to strangle, slap and spit at each other, all to the tune of insults and counter insults. The barkeeper had wisely ducked underneath the bar...
2. GM Machete Max was in no hurry. The dead were animating around him, and the longer Chimera took talking, the more zombies there would be. "I be no quarrel with you, child. But yah no nothin about survival, me see that. Never runnin for yah life, never been shot or cut. Nobody been out for yah blood, nah, 'ave dey? Yah no nothing about survival, because yah never had to survive..." Machete Max studied Chimera more closely. "From de looks ofyah, yah be armour plated, so yah ain't be knowing about survival, and yah ain't be knowing about fear. Yah never had to fear catching no bullet in yah noddle, 'ave yah?" Machete Max tapped his forehead with his Machete. "Yah out of yah depth, child. I be doin what needs to be done, and yah be doin' what yah thinks yah need to be doin. But I ain't be cutting yah down, though yah be making a fine zombie if I did..."
3. Echohead "The EFA? Some kind of luddites?" asked Echohead, stroking his hairless chin. His chin was so weak it could arguably be called not only a hairless chin, but a chinless chin. The thought made his hand snap down and try to occupy itself in some otherway, flapping like a kite in the wind. "Ah. g-glass of water would be swell, thankyou Captain Scarlet". What?! he admonished himself trying to make some quip about water and swell? Stop trying to be cool and act cool instead! Alas, Echohead was caught up in his desire to look like a cool spy from the films. The desire would not relinquish its grip anytime soon, no matter how ferociously it self strangulated. "Are they really going to... murder Xavier? That seems rather ah... extreme. So I guess we go to the speaking event? We are his security detail?" It bothered Echohead. "Wish we had more to go on. I feel like we are in the dark. Who know's what the ETA will pull?"
4. GM "Revenge? Dat taste sweet, but sweeter still be survival. Ya think I raise de dead on whim?" Another arm broke free of the soft soil between them. Skeletal bones, with leathery skin and ragged flesh. "Me be survivin' and so be me brothaz, fool. Dem gun me brothers down, and I raise dem again, so we can fight. Ay! Dem fools tink they can finish me wit bullets, wit murder. Death just make me stronger!" More soil, more arms. Heads now, too. Yawning jaws, croaking with death. "Yeh want to stop me? Well come den, see if you can. Me 'ave army now, and me be captain. Yeh can't stop it, no matter de words com from ya mouth. The Machete's ave army!" Machete Max paused a moment. "Why you wan stop dis? Why some cape care about dead crooks fighting livin' ones. Away now! Let us be havin war so we can ave peace!"
5. Well I think its a notice roll? Notice: 1d20+4 23 Just seeing if she can find anything that might be holding prisoners or some such clue...
6. GM Machete Max spun round, brandishing his blade, to meet Chimera. The man was covered in arcane tattoos, his long dreadlocked hair wound around small arcane trinkets. He had scars, and a fiersome wiry strength, but this was no foolish thug. Chimera could see the intelligence in his eyes. And the boldness. "How you know de trouble I cause? Ya think about de trouble I cause if I don't do nothin'? Me men getting slaughetered by big man boss over 'dere..." Machete Max pointed his weapon in the Direction of Blowfish, who was still shooting shadows with his Tommy Gun - along with his goons. "Ya expec' me to sit down, wait for de bullet to com? Ay! You de one who don't know what ya meddlin' wit! Hoo are yoo to gah pawking dere nose in were it not belong, eh?" Machete Max gave a few expert swiped of his Machete. Around him, more of the undead were creeping out of their graves. And yet Machete Max didn't blink. He didn't appear to be afraid of the dead - perhaps not even afraid of death itself.
7. Gamma Buzz (a.k.a the Cockroach Kid) Power Level: 8 (192/215 PP) Unspent Power Points: 23pp Trade-Offs: None In Brief: Radioactive Cockroach Catchphrase: " Alternate Identity: Baltazar “Baz” Botez Birthplace: Mexico City Residence: Freedom City / Claremont Base of Operations: Freedom City / Claremont Occupation: Student Affiliations: Claremont Family: Bianca “Biz” Botez (Sister) Description: Age: 16 Apparent Age: 16 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Cockroach Height: 5’9” Weight: 75Kgs Eyes: Red Hair: None Gamma Buzz looks like a human shaped insect, covered in a green exoskeleton, with three fingers on each hand, and two antennae growing out of his forehead. He normally wears a t shirt, and jeans. History: Baltazar Botez grew up in the slums of Caracas, spending his time playing in a rubbish dump with his sister. His favourite activity was playing with the glowing green cockroaches that scuttled around suspicious rusty canisters. Illegally dumped experimental nuclear waste has strange effects. Whilst his sister mutated her eyes (and is able to see in infrared and ultraviolet), Baltazar mutated his eyes and everything else, turning into a half-man, half-cockroach radioactive mutant. Fearing prejudice, he and his sister illegally crossed into the USA so that Baltazar could join Claremont, whilst his sister scraped out a living cleaning the sewers and subways of Freedom City (Infrared vision is good for something…) Personality & Motivation Baltazar is a rumbunctious rapscallion who likes to play rather than study. He is keen to prove daredevil bravery. His hobby is electronics and DJ, and aims to set up his own pirate radio station in the future. Underneath the extravert personality, Baltazar is wounded; he is an insect, with no genitalia and (in his mind) a monster with no chance of getting a girl. He is awkward around females, and gets very angry with bullies. Baltazar is still working out his future. Part of him wants to be a hero, if nothing else to impress the girls and gain acceptance. He has a passion for the underdog and wants to help his sister. A rebellious streak in him makes him fancy himself as a “Punk Hero” – hence the pirate radio station. Powers & Tactics: Gamma Buzz has insect like strength, agility and senses. His armour plated skin affords some protection and allows him to crawl along walls and ceilings. He is immune to radiation, and at the same time can emit radiation in various forms. He is too inexperienced and impulsive to be tactically savvy, but he would generally prefer to crawl along a ceiling and dramatically surprise people. He generally fights with his fists, whilst glowing green (Aura Nauseate Power). Whilst his sensitive eyes can see throughout the EM Spectrum, this also makes him vulnerable to dazzles. He has a penchant for signing “GBB” (Gamma Buzz, Baby) with an elegant twist of his laser vision. Power Descriptions: Gamma Buzz’s radioactive powers look like green light. This includes his laser vision (which is also coloured green). His “Mutate” power looks like a sickly yellow green, whilst his “Dazzle” power looks more like a bright white-green. Complications: Half Insect: Gamma Buzz is half insect. He looks ugly and stands out easily, making disguise almost impossible. In addition, certain pesticides and chemicals will affect him if they target insects. Big Impact: He is no more vulnerable to impact damage / effects than the next cape, but impact can easily dislocate his limbs. He can pop them back into place, but that takes time and hurts like hell. Vulnerable Antenna: Even an average guy (or girl) can easily tear of his Antenna. They regrow back eventually, but without them he will loose his tremor sense and detect radiation tactile sense. Green Greeny: Tactically unsound and fresh to the fight, Gamma Buzz hasn’t quite realised that the colour green reflects green light. Some of his powers (particularly the laser vision) will be markedly less useful, or ineffective, against green coloured objects (or people). Signature Move: Gamma Buzz will normally celebrate a victory (or percieved success) by carving his signature (GBB or Gamma Buzz, Baby) into surfaces with his laser vision, Apart from the trouble this vandalism might cause, it can delay him. Struggling Sister:: Has very limited wealth (mainly from his struggling sister, who is also a potential vulnerability for Baltazar). Radiation Pressure: Even without actively using his radiation powers, Gamma Buzz is radioactive enough to be easily spotted and tracked by a geiger counter or those with suitable senses. He also has to periodicallly use his powers (he will feel a pressure build up) after a few hours or he will lose control of them (for instance, unwittingly releasing an extra effort radiation burst at a bad time) inadvertantly releasing his radiation in an attempt to let of steam / release the pressure. Like a brick. Despite his strength, Baz has never learned to swim and will thrash about in water. Whilst he can, technically, swim (due to his incredible strength rather than skill), he will be slow, ineffective, noisy, etc as suits the plot. To make matters worse, he has, against all wisdom, the urge to belly flop into any body of water because it makes a great splash. Easily read. When tense, anxious, or angry, his antennae will stiffen and then start trembling. Those who know him well (or the very astute) can read this, potentially making bluffs or tilts easier. 9. Whilst we may not need them could you throw Know (History) check DC 15 Know (Arcane) check DC 15 Stealth check DC 10 (or you will alert security!)
10. GM "Snuff the smoke out?" Gibbered Juan. "You think I have anti-smoke candles in my jacket? You may not have frikin' noticed, by candles tend to make smoke, not snuff it out?" He hopped from one foot to another, wringing his hands. "We are fricked, right? We are frickin fricked! Still I bet a British jail is better than Hell. Probably. Maybe probably." He tore off his jacket, tore off his tank top, revealing pale, almost emaciated white skin and bony flesh. Juan was not going to win any body building contests, not if he waited till the heat death of the universe. Wrapping his black clothes around his fists he started patting down the fire, yepling with every pat. "Yoikes!" he whimpered. "Who would have guessed fire was hot?" "You havent seen nothing yet. mortal!" cackled Tazel, buzzing around Puma, silent but fiery... The Museum had alarms, and a security guard asleep at the main desk. But nothing was alerted. Not yet, anyway....
11. GM Blowfish surveyed the scene; for the first time, he actually looked worried. "I... I don't know" he muttered. "We been huntin' a zombie here, a zombie dere, Machete Max bringing his dead soldiers back ta life. But dis... did is a goddam zombie apocalpse..." RATATATATAT "But we can give if a...pffft... good shot! Let em eat lead, boys!" he shouted at his conscious goons. Soon the graveyard was alive with gunfire. Panicked gunfire. Bullets chipped headstones, and tore into loose earth. They drilled through zombie flesh, but still the zombies kept approaching. "Shoot em in da head, boys!" yelled Blowfish, reloading his tommy Gun. As Chimera ran through the animated Graveyard, she could see Machete Max ahead. A tall man, dreadlocked, glinting dark eyes, dressed in a tank top, sandals, and ragged jeans. Tattoos on his dark skin - tattoos of skulls. In his hand, predictably, was a Machete. And he could see her coming - see her a mile off, despite the shrouded moon. He pointed the Machete at her. "Don be messin wit' dis. Vengeance be mine!" he said, voice deep and rumbling, like it came from the soil itself.
12. GM "What? Pfft... Where... I can't see nuthin..." Blowfish squinted his eyes, trying to make out which shadow was which. Even with the moonlight, it was no easy task. Intermittent clouds passed over the moon, dulling it. "Pffft... I ain't gonna be feedin no zombie with my brains. Dat just wouldn't be right..." He pulled out the Tommy gun from his car, checking the ammo. He looked like he knew what he was doing. The shadow carried moving from one grave to the next, fleeting. But more worrisome still, the graves that he had been visiting were not at rest. There was growning, the sound of rot, of moving earth, of cracking wood. And then, a putrified hand reached out of one of the graves. And then another... The dead were awakened!!!!
13. It crossed my mind but I think, on balance, thats a bit too grimdark - causing cancer and radiation burns! He is pretty screwed up as it is, let alone not being able to touch people! It does give me an indea for another complication though! M
14. GM The Barkeeper gave a noncholant shrug and said not a ward. He poured a conservative double that looked rather stingy; it was more like a shot and a half, if that. The game continued. A final king was turned. The man with the pocket pair sat stony faced, despite having four kings. He had a poker face, no doubt. The bets started collecting in the middle, and the man with four kings didnt bat an eyelid. "Pfft..." he hissed. A tic; blowing out air that made his cheeks expand like a big band trumpeter. "That's yer tell, Blowfish" laughed one of the other players, nervously. "Yer bluffing, ain't ya?" "He always does that. I reckon he got a killer hand" said a second player. "Yeah, but maybe he does it more when he's bluffing. I reckon he's bluffing. He ain't got nuthin'. I'm all in!" Despite the chitter chatter and the raised stakes, Blowfish - the man with a thick nexk, heavy jowels, and four kings, didn't give any indication of his hand. He calmly matched the enormous bet. He gave another tic... "Pfft..." The room was silent, and Luke could just make out the rumbling sound of drilling coming from the other side of the vault door. The players, and now the body guards, were all too engrossed in the high tension of the game to pay attention to anything else.
15. Rev "Dang! Vampires suck!" Rev had heard of Vampires. But seeing one was another matter altogether. I mean... Vampires... Real Vampires... that are real! With fangs and everything! She slapped herself around the face to wake up. Was it the hypnotism, or the shock? It didn't matter in the end, her eyes widened and then closed, turning to slits. What had Pete gotten himslef into? Had he turned into... one of them? Was the Iron Talon all vampires? She didn't have garlic, she didn't have mirrors. But she did have her fists which looked pretty effective. And fire.... She held up her hand and fired a jet, spraying the head with fire. It's and experiment. A totally justifiable experiment... Plus she didn't like a rotting head looking at her. And she was angry, too. Unfortunately she was no closer to Pete. She flexed both her grinding fists and stomped off, trying to navigate a way to whatever looked most suspicious...
16. Could you throw me a Notice roll? DC 15 And also a straight CHA roll DC 10, to ingratiate yourself with the bartender.
17. GM Chimera may have spotted the shadow, but Blowfish had not - or at least had seemed not to. What he seemed was - rather engrossed in amicable discourse with a superhero. He said so. "Dat's great, dat's great. Chimera, eh? Like da Greek monster or something. Pffft. Head of a Lion and Backside of a mule. Eh, I don't know about all dat. Sounds majestic though... real majestic. Pffft. Say, it's a good night! You ane me, having an amicable discourse. Yes, madam - moonlight, graveyards, and an amicable discourse with a superhero. Pffft." Meanwhile the shadow deeper in the graveyard flitted from grave to grave, pausing a moment at each headstone. He had hunkered down, moving quickly but silently. Every now and then it looked like he turned to watch Blowfish and Chimera - but it was too darn dark to see clearly. But one turn, there was a glint. Something in the shadow's hand. Moonlight on a machete.
18. GM "Dats da spirit!" said Blowfish, glugging down the rest of his champagne. "And ever you want Lobster pasta, just like mama used to make, please come to my new restaurant. Da Pasta Palace!" He wiggled his eyebrows doing some calculations. "Half price for my new chum! Say, pffft... whats ya name again?" It was dark, but the moonlight still shone, glinting over the gravestones. Against the dark backdrop, Chimera saw a blackness. Then it was gone. There it was again. Silent, crouched, a shadow in the shadows. Somebody was definately out there... moving like a panther of an unwhite colouration.
19. The Shadow Knows...: 1d20+15 21 opposed roll. So do you spot...something. But given the close call and the low light (sand supersense) its going to be a shadow without much detail... (as per IC)
20. GM "Swell! Ya got... whaddya call it...pfft...An open mind! That's swell, reall swell." Blowfish tapped off a bit of accumulating cigar ash to the ground of the graveyard. It wouldn't be the first time the ground had been fertilized in such a manner, but normally it was from anxious teenagers sharing a first illicit smoke. Bonus points if they were goths. "Whats all this about killin? We ain't killin. Our little shooters are for... pfffturley pffftersonal pppftrotection. Ya can't blame a man for carrying some lead when da zombie apocalypse is about to hit us, can ya?" "Look, I can tell ya ain't no fool. Another day, you and me might be sitting on da opposite sides in a court room. But this here ain't dat day. If you think I'm a crook, then think about this... what kinda business has a crook got when he's got a walking corpse eating his brains out?" He cast his eyes over the graveyard. "I ain't gonna ask you to commit no crime, and I ain't gonna shoot da living. I was gonna ask if we could, just today, help eachother. Maybe save da world. You can put my hands in cuffs another time...." The Graveyard was, for the moment, still and spooky. Maybe it was a degree or two colder, but maybe that was just the imagination. For now, the graves were quiet. For now, nobody was doing any digging. Nobody was digging down. And nobody was digging up. For now....
21. I think Echohead is too nervous to think right now. And whilst he could copy somebody elses skills, he is a bit too respectful to do so at the moment. So I think he will be passively observing at the moment. Ill skip posting at this poin.
22. Why not! Maybe an Evil Dead style vibe? Head Pops off and mutters some last curse before shutting all-white vibes? (Up to you of course, but thats the kind of vibe?)
23. GM "Extra Security..." The Thugs eyes seemed to swish around lazy, caught in a haze of uncaring bliss. "Yes, thats right... extra security.... that sweet jackpot needs security. Like me. Like You..." The thugs seemed totally content with the outlandish story; maybe it was magic, maybe it was tiredness, maybe it was the bravado of Luke. And the suit helped. Luke walked straight past the man and into the private area. Drinks bar, with waiter. Serving olives and a variety of drinks. Lamentably, everyone was drinking whiskey. So the fine vodka, wine and port all went untouched. Four men sat around a table with a green vlevet finish, playing poker. The men all wore suits, open shirts, and had thick cuban cigars jammed between their lips. From the angle he came in, Luke could see one thugs - a heavily jowled man - had a pair of kings, and the cards on the table looked pretty much in his favour - a king, a two of clubs. One card yet to be turned. The stakes looked high; large piles of tokens sliding into each other in the centre of the table. Four other men - large, silent, armed, stood around the room. All bodyguards, all alert for trouble. At the other end of the room was a large vault door. Luke could sense the high density gold loitering just on the other side of the solid steel...
24. Lets go with the bluff with a bit of Emotion Control flavour? (as you will have to sustain it...)
