  1. GM Dr Gwib, as the students (and often the faculty) called her, pursed her lips and scribbled. Her handwriting was an almost impossible combination of elegant and quick. Bordeline caligraphy. Unfortunately it was also out of Jennifer's view. "A satsifactor start, Ms. Gale... entirely satisfactory. Thankyou for enlightening us that oblitrerated lungs and heart were the likely cause of death. I am sure your fellow students would have otherwise struggled to indetify the cause had you not shared your insight with them." Acid wit, hard ass. That was Dr Gwib. "Well then, if we proceed to a more nuanced investigation, which would be expected of you should you wish to graduate, perhaps you could demonstrate further examination, followed by conclusions, speculation, recommendations, and further laboratory tests. I am sure such basic skills are within the grasp of even a mediocre forensic science undergraduate, wouldn't you say?" The pen stopped scribbling. Dr Gwib drummed her enamel nails against her clipboard, her face an impenetrable mask that might speak of boredom, contempt, amusment, or a blend of them all...
  2. GM The priest nodded, and nodded again. His fingers drummed against his bible. "Someone like you?" he asked, his interest spiked. He leaned forward slightly, his eyes wide, the drumming of his fingers slightly faster. "What do you mean? We are old God's children, and we are all worthy of his love, no matter how much we have sinned. I have yet to meet the devil who is not welcome in this house." He paused, straightened, and composed himself. His hands brushed down the creases of his robe. "I..*Ahem*... I do not wish to pry. Well, I do wish to pry, but it is wrong of me to wish it. What I mean to say is... ah... who are you? Terminus invasions? Are you in... ah... some kind of trouble?" The priest looked around, scanning the entrance to the church, frowning, chewing his cheeks. "Please, I can't say I will understand, but I will listen, and won't judge. Who are you?"
  3. OOC for https://www.freedomplaybypost.com/topic/13626-zombie-vs-zombie/ Feel free to work through and describe Chimera's examination of the body. Essentially he looks like a Yardie, street level thugs, man about 35, veteran of many scuffles, who has had a shotgun pointed at his chest and fired. Lots of bone, blood, and a few shotgun pellets inside. you can add in any other insights (that wont detract from the story) if you wish. Dr GWB will finish up anything you missed so no need for a roll; role play it how you wish Feel free to make an untrained Knowledge (Arcane) and knowledge (Theology and Philosophy) roll if you examine his tattoo's!
  4. GM 1st June Mid morning Lecture: Violent Death - From theory to practice, Doctor Getrude Whallington-Bridgecastle Dr GWB welcomed the group of four Forensic science students into the cold air and metal furnishings of the morgue. Lamentably, there was only one corpse to examine, a rarity in Freedom City. The consensus opinion that Dr GWB was a stiff, prentetious and deeply clever pathologist who had a reputation for marking exams harshly, and being just as harsh in her teaching sessions. And yet, she had the deep knowledge and occasional acidic wit that kept her in her job. She clearly was somewhat aggreived that she only had once cadaver on which to wax lyrical, but she was determined to make do. The dead body was clearly a thug. Tattoo's of skulls, machete's, dancing skeletons and murder. Scars from knife fights, dreadlocks, dark brown skin, medallions - this was presumably a member of some Carribean-origin gang. A Yardie. Even the most inexperienced student amongst the four could give a good guess at the mode of death. The corpse had the centre of his chest blown out - a ten inch diameter hole straight through. Looked like a shotgun blast. At close range. "So, who would like to walk us through the preliminary examination?" asked Dr GWB, her eyebrows raised in challenge, peering over her rimmed glasses, her bronze hair wound tightly into a bun. Her hands gripped a clip board and pen in eager anticipation. She would be taking notes...
  5. GM The smile stayed smiling. "Music is a little piece of Heaven, isn't it? Strike me down if that's blasphemy, Lord!" chuckled the priest. Six choirboys sung, and sung well. Not professional, not yet, but they were in tune. They ranged from... well, it was hard to say - eight to fourteen, maybe fifteen? Small, dressed in robes, reading sheet music. "What is on your mind?" asked the Priest. He stayed a cautious ten feet from La Puma. "It sounds like your are conflicted, perhaps? But then, many who come here are conflicted, so it is perhaps not so much a guess. Troubles, troubles, we all have our troubles. Some weigh light, some weigh heavy, but through God the load is easier to bear..." He raised an eyebrow. "But I think maybe you are more... troubled than most? Or maybe the troubles are stranger. Do not fear, we are in a house of God, and all are welcome. This is a place for love and redemption, not shame and pennance. Well, at least whilst I am around. Some of the *ahem* more senior clergy are a bit more fire and brimstone." He gave a wink.

  7. Sunday 4th June Nightfall The air was dusty. The kind of dust you could feel on your skin, and taste in your mouth. A taste like ash, like burning sickly sweet incense, like rotting flesh consigned to a pyre. The soup of odours was even more pungent to those beasts of the night who could sense such smells. Or those heroes of the night. This was Pueto Rico territory. Spanish was spoken more often than English, and could be heard on every street corner, or coming through open windows. Or from the Church. Singing - there was singing. Choir boys practicing, there voices melding together and floating through the evening. A few old folks, lighting candles, holding crusifix pendants, eyes upwards towards the carved ceiling or the stained window; or perhaps to God. Muttered prayers, some desperate, some afraid, some said with wet eyes. A tall thin preist, skin a honeyed brown, his head bald, his clothes black, his teeth white as he smiled, clutched a small bible. He was handsome, but his looks were only for the divine. His eyes observed all, both in and out of the Church. And he spied La Puma Negra. "Come to pray? Can I offer guidance?" he asked. Even his voice sounded handsome. Rich, deep, rumbling. A voice that could sing in a seedy jazz bar, or preach from a pure pulpit.
  8. Buddy Brand Alternate Versions Captain Cosmos can summon alternate versions of Buddy Brand from the multiverse to help. Due to plot / dimensional effects, this is not always accurate although he can pull in different versions (Narrow extra). Most alternate versions have similar personalities and backgrounds, but differ slightly in the way they turned out. Broadly they are all social commentators. (e.g. War correspondent Buddy, Civil Rights lawyer Buddy, Politician Buddy, Comedian Buddy) More "extreme" or "deviant" versions (for instance, Caveman Buddy, Pirate Buddy, or Space Buddy) are less likely to be helpful and may be frankly chaotic. There is always a chance a really malignant version pops up, such as Nazi Buddy, or evil mastermind Buddy. 9. Captain Cosmos Power Level: 12 (248/250 PP) Unspent Power Points: 2pp Trade-Offs: -3 Attack / +3 DC, -3 Defence / +3 Toughness In Brief: Multidimensional Paragon Alternate Identity: Buddy Brand Birthplace: San Francisco Residence: Freedom City Occupation: Newsreader Affiliations: None Family: Bernard Brand (Estranged Father, Businessman), Violet Brand (Lawyer Sister) Description: Age: 45 Apparent Age: 45 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Mixed-Caucasian Height: 5’10” Weight: 85 Kgs Eyes: Blue Hair: Brown / White Buddy is a man of average build with a physique representative of regular but not extreme exercise. He looks fairly close to his age, with silver flecked black hair, a tan, and a few wrinkles. He has what many call a “trustworthy” face. When dressed as Captain Cosmos he wears a blue and orange spandex costume and mask, complete with cape. Captain Cosmos can change his dimensions. As a one-dimensional being he is essentially an imperceptible line. As a two dimensional being he will be completely flat. In transdimensional form he will look slightly translucent. In hyperdimensional form he will appear to be slightly blurred. Most bizarrely, in Antidimensional form he will look as if flipped in a mirror. History: Buddy had an undesirable upbringing with a father who simply pushed him too hard to succeed at everything, wanting him to be a lawyer or politician. In university, Buddy rebelled, and ended up working in media, which ended up enjoying – and being promoted to newsreader for WCZA Channel 7 News. His flagship show is "the Brand Report", where he grills famous persons of Freedom City on a Thursday Evening. Buddy’s life changed when he ran into an alternate version of himself late on evening, driving home from an out of town party. The mysterious figure was “Captain Cosmos” and lay dying on the road. As Buddy comforted the dying man, he heard his dying words “Beware…the Collapse!” and was then infused with a hyperdimensional energy source, granting him extraordinary powers. For the first few days Buddy was wracked with nausea and disorientation. His physician, Doctor Linda LaBelle, ran some tests and came up with some extraordinary results. To this day, only she knows of his secret identity. Buddy felt both a duty to carry on the mantle of Captain Cosmos, and a duty to address some of the terrible things he had reported on in the world. Thus, Captain Cosmos roamed the skies once more… Personality & Motivation: Happy, anxious, driven. Captain Cosmos is a friendly guy who is generally well liked. Having seen much of the darker side of the world as a newsman, he has a cynical / realistic outlook, although he is generally an optimistic sort. In other words, he sees a lot of problems in the world, but also feels that they can be sorted out. His relationship with his father growing up was pretty awful. His father put immense pressure on Buddy (and Buddy’s sister, Violet) to be hyper successful. He is left with a chronic feeling of not being “good enough”, which drives his career and his personal life. This leaves him with a chronic (but usually well hidden, as befits a TV presenter) anxiety about being fired or failing somehow. Powers & Tactics: Captain Cosmos draws on the power of all the alternate versions of Buddy Brand throughout the multiverse (although only he has this power). This grants him amazing strength and resilience, and as he can sustain himself from the life force of all his alternate versions, making him immune to any biological attack. In addition he can fly, and can alter his dimensions, either lowering them (one or two dimensional) or raising them (and thus being able to bypass normal space and time considerations) He will reduce his dimensions primarily for stealth, although sometimes fights two dimensionally if he is tired, weakened, and feels justified in using his dangerous “slicing” ability. Most commonly, he will use his hyperdimensional form, drawing on the strength of countless other Buddy Brands and reinforcing his own resilience and power. He will sometimes summon alternative versions of Buddy Brand, for instance if he needs someone to cover his show or pretend to be Buddy, or because he simply needs more helping hands. Power Descriptions: Captain Cosmos’ dimensional changes appear as above (Appearance). His flight leaves a slight rippling behind him but is entirely silent. Complications: Buddy or no buddy?: Alternative versions of Buddy (Multidimensional/Summon power) are usually the same happy, anxious, nice guy version of Buddy (i.e. default summoning friendly attitude). But the process is not 100% accurate. Alt versions have their own agenda and, particularly if more extreme / deviant versions are summoned (such as Caveman Buddy, or Pirate Buddy), may be indifferent or even hostile. Busy Body: Buddy’s Secret ID is both busy and famous, and he lives in the competitive, stressful world of Media. Whilst able and reasonably popular, he is not so skilled that he is irreplaceable. Dread of Drowning: As a child, Buddy nearly drowned in a white-water rafting expedition – and his Father remonstrated him badly. He has a lingering fear of being submerged (although he no longer has any danger of drowning). Whilst actually underwater he is only slightly anxious, it is the process of actually submerging that is dreadful to him. If he voluntary submerges himself he would need at least a moment to steel himself (causing delay), whilst an involuntary submerging (from knockback or telekinesis or the like) would send him into a paralytic panic. Possibly Psychotic: Altering his dimensions (dimensional form array) tends to scramble his brain if sustained for long, leading to suspiciousness and eventually to psychotic symptoms (see below). Zero: Captain Cosmos could plausibly eliminate all his dimensions; essentially a zero-dimensional form, thus ceasing (temporarily) to exist at all. Whilst he would never voluntarily do this (arguably he could not voluntary force his own non-existence) massive exotic dimensional effects or super high gravity might cause this state – as might a malignant mind controller. 10. GM "My plan is not perfect" conceded Lord Uplift. "Riddled with imperfections, it is true. And yet, when one considers action, if were to await perfection of course, we would all be pertperually paralysed" he countered, looking at both Delta and Archeville. "The only purpose to such critique is to refine ones actions, to make them more sure. Not to stay ones hand" he explained firmly. "Where does one, indeed, draw the line? What, indeed, are the ramifications to the whole biodome? Who can say?" "But I ask you this - is making the world, nay, the universe, more equitable a laudible goal or not?" he demanded, even firmer. His eyes were dark blue and penetrating, a question of hard steel. "Or perhaps you prefer the uniqueness of your own superior intelligence? Perhaps it is vanity that stays your hand? For if all had your gifts, you would not be special, would you?"
  11. GM Lord uplift tapped his chin, contemplating. "Your offer is generous and not without merit" he said, contemplating the sky. "I would be rash to reject it or accept it out of hand...." he said, more softly. "And rashness has no place in my work!" He turned back to them and gestured for them to sit, seating himself smoothly into a wooden chair. "My work is, however, not purely for the purposes of research, but of implementation" he said, still chewing the idea aorund. "It is unjust that some life is more intelligent, healthier, possessed of more power than others. It is the foundation of tryanny..." "And my patron has a vision of...well, not complete homogeneity, for there must be specialisation and evolution, but at least of a level playing field. And this vision, I share..." "Ah, dinner is served!" A few monkeys carrying dishes came in. It was a rather good smell; of simple food cooked simply, with fresh ingredients and herbs. "Like this dinosaur flesh. We eat it now for sustenance and perhaps pleasure. It is consigned to such fate from the dictatorship of genes....is it not, at some point, unfair?"
  12. Thats fine by me. However, I always struggle a bit with diplomacy vs primary characters in these situations. It is, to my mind, not a power that will change his motivation or agenda, or protect you from conflict. It merely suggests that he is more inclined towards you, but that wont (usually) stop him from his course of action. I hope your understanding is of a similar nature. For reference: Doktor Archeville, 3 HP
  13. GM And so... Aproximately 78.26 minutes later. At the top of the mysterious dome was the dining room. The metal sheen had parted, and there was only glass (or at least, some translucent material) that curved gently to make both ceiling and walls. The sky was now dark, and the stars glittered. A fabulous antique star-gazing telescope adorned the centre of the room. But that was not the focus of the evening. Slightly to one side, a dining table had been set out, with pristine clean white table cloth and napkins. Only water was set out. As Dr Archeville, Delta, and the two WEST agents entered via almost silent elevator, they found Lord Uplift waiting, standing, eyes focussed on the horizon and the night. "The meal shall be served shortly" he said, smoothly. "I have pondered your coming here. It leaves me in an awkward position.....I had hoped that my work would be done without inteference, but I know sense that is unlikely...." he said, not taking his eyes from the stars. "The question is, I suppose, what inteference? I suppose you have not come to that determination yet" he finished, turning towards them, and spreading his hand out to offer them a seat. "Unless your meditations over the last hour have clarified your thinking?"
  14. Echohead Perhaps a more astute man, or even a more astute Umberto, would have smelled something fishy. And proceeded to read a mind. But Umberto was a bag of nerves and not well disposed towards reading minds. In felt invasive, and he did not use his power lightly. Besides, he didnt really know his this space faring crew. "Uh...uh....l - l - lead on then! I'm glad someone knows what they are doing!" he said, screwinh up his lips and face in what might be construed as a smile. He wiped his brow. His palms felt clamy. He tried not to think about the infinite expanses of hard vaccuum outside. Of radiation and pressure damage. Of course, but trying not to think about something, one only succeeded about thinking about it more.
  15. GM "I can appreciate investigation" replied Uplift, almost solemn, almost with revere. "I was, and am, an investigator. But investigation is redundant if one does not act thereafter" he explained, firmly. He caught himself getting just so slightly arrogant and angry, and oozed back into a placid coolness laced with warm politeness. "But enough. I have not forgotten courtesy and custom. Quaint it may be, but still, something to hold dear. Perhaps you would stay for dinner. I doubt you will get the chance to eat dinosaur meat again, and I have a reasonable chef. Or at least, I am trying to train him to be reasonable. If you can pardon his inexperience, then you may find it an interesting dish. And, I hope, interesting conversation?" The invitation was laid out, and Uplift awaited the response.
  16. Ronin Ink Echohead An Uncivilised Age GM Better Thinking In The Lost World Again, I have been far to absent to warrant any kind of Guide post (It is looking marginally better in September and much more optimistic in October). GM posts to give 1 post to Snakebite, Cap Cosmos, Curveball, Sgt Shark, Diamondlight, Lament, Nightlife.
  17. Ronin Gods and men and magic. Bedlam sure was a strange place. Curtis was a man of men, not Gods. All that really mattered was your will to act, and what you did with it. Whether Gods did, or did not, grant this will was, to his mind, both unfathomable and redundant. "Just be careful" he muttered to Doctor Throne, stepping back and keeping his eyes open. He couldn't deal with Ghosts and spirits. But this was Bedlam, and there were plenty of bullets and knives in every corner, and even mad cultists wouldn't say no to a Glock or a Machete if it came down to it. And so he reloaded the Street Special without taking his eyes of the woman.
  18. GM Uplift took a slow breath in, and a slow breath out. He was not above emotion, but he certainly recognised when he was being tilted, and knew how to deal with it. "Protection" he answered. "I am a pragmatic man. And I take pragmatic precautions. For instance, some people might object to my work, and try to stop it" he said, giving a knowing look at Doktor Archeville and Delta. "Do you object to my...precautions?" he asked. "Besides, I need help. I cannot do my work without help, and I prefer the organic to the mechanical. More....well, flair I suppose. Sometimes the errors of life give rise to great leaps. Mutation, or accident. For every hundred losses, a magnificent gain" he mused. "I have stated my intent" he said. "My vision, my means, my philosophy. You seem not to respect them, although I credit you with the courtesy or prudence not to open fire on me. What then, is your intent?" he asked.
  19. Mr Murk Mr Murk leaned back. "Of course. I welcome the challenge of such scrutiny" he said, voice mellow, eyes milky. "It is only be such debate that we can avoid falling into corruption. So please, do not hesitate to speak out, to voice concern, to tear down false assumption. Nothing is written in stone..." He paused and added. "And yet it is written in ink. You are free to leave the Codus Immortus pact whenever you desire, although by doing so your chances of rejoining wane considerably. If an individual joins when it suits and leaves likewise, it is no commitment at all". "And it is a commitment. Here, I will not lie or soften the truth. A fair commitment, I would say. That you do not kill another immortal, or by inaction kill. That you do not allow an immortal to suffer the promethean torment unique to immortality, and that you take reasonable measure to prevent such tortures. That you treat the Club Immortus as safe haven to all that are therein" he said, reinforcing the three principles. "And by commiting thusly, such protections are duly afforded you" "If you are in agreement, I would invite you to the Club Immortus here in Freedom City, to sign. And of course, please partake of the fringe benefits. We have an excellent selection of wine from Paris. And you will always be welcome around the globe in any of our club houses..."
  20. GM It was hard to stop someone when their blood was up. But stop, Jones did. That was an act of instinctive self preservation however. Being threatened and controlled, and (in his mind) stabbed in the back, well, that didn't quell his mood any. Quite the reverse, in fact. Being told what to do never goes down well. So, conflict ruled his face, and arteries wobbled in his temple, struggling to keep up with the pressure. "..." came the initial grunt of fury. "Thats NOT YOUR CALL!" he yelled at her face. "THIS IS MY GIG! MY SHOW! MY VENGEANCE!" he demanded. "YOU CAN GIVE ME MY BOMB OR GET PUNCHED IN THE FACE!!!!" But...just...he didn't punch her in the face. Perhaps because she held the trigger....
  21. GM Uplift stiffened. "Genetic illness?" he asked, face calm and almost motionless. "No. A conclusion you jumped to. I wonder why?" he asked, peering at Doctor Archeville, a look of dissapointment in his face. "Trying to goad me?" he asked. "A fruitless task. Perhaps I can be goaded, but not when I realise that is someones intent" he stated bluntly. He stroked his chin, studying the crew like they were in a petri-dish. "What would you suggest then? That the pleasures and powers of life are afforded the few, like yourselves. Do you think your intelligences should be afforded to you and you alone? Even if you were purely benign, and given your history Doctor, that is an assertion you would surely not make, what of the millions who would jump at thought of such power and brilliance offered them?" "Your concern may be based on choice?" he asked Delta. "But what choice do any of us have, really? Do we choose our DNA?" he inquired.

  23. Starshot Boots on ground. Sky overhead. For all his star-faring ways, this was where Starshot was most comfortable. Exploring new life. And new civilisations. Boldly going...well, just exploring new life, really. And hunting it. Didn't sound so noble, but it was the truth. This planet has been a banquet of pleasures, despite the hardships. But now, he was going to war; and he had avoided that for fifty and more years. Signalling the others to stay put and hidden, he started a crawl up the hill to peak over its rim. The synth-leather jacket was resilient enough but was chipped by the rock underneath. He paid it no mind; worn in was good. Silent and patient, like any hunter, he reached the top of the hill, putting his eyes (or more precisely, the enhanced vision sensors on his helmet) just over the rim...
