Thanks for writing the fluff, Rav. Personally, I am not too keen on twin towers it feels less integrated as whole. Not totally opposed however - and they do look magnificent. I was thinking more Space Needle myself (albeit a "solid" one), with the labs and heavy equipment at the spine and the social / living / hub stuff at the top.

Based on everyones comments so far (Gossamer said basically "Yeah" from what I remember) I think we have final draft. Living Quarters seemed to get most support for final EP. I think "The Lab" seems to win out on name, and Hanover for location. The Lab Members: Supercape, Miss A, Gossamer, Dragonfly, Ironclad Members Honorary: Doc A Size: Huge (Skyscraper / Equal sized building in Hanover district) Toughness: +15 (Steel alloys, super-designed architecture) Features: Combat Simulator Communications Computer Defence Systems (Snare PL 10) Fire Prevention System Garage Hangar Holding Cells 1 ( Nullify 10) Infirmary Laboratory Library Living Quarters Personnel Power System Security System 3 [DC 30] Workshop Power: Obscure 6 (ESP and Radio. Extra: Selective) Power: ESP 4 (All senses, Feats: Dimensional 2 [All non-mystic dimensions] ) Any final comments? (Including where do we post the final form, and the fluff?)

"Jolly good thinking" applauded Supercape, kicking himself he hadn't come as Supercape. Underneath the table, almost unconsciously, he formed a small disc of quantum material, the semi transparent crystal-like that was tougher than steel and lighter. Now if only I could make it truly exist, and not evaporate if anyone looks at it too hard...

AT this point, its a DC 15 Emotion control attack, Fear. Limited to being shaken Slick isn't being slick 1d20+3=7

Good idea, editted to change portal to ESP. It can still, as you say, work for dramatic purposes as a portal. P.L.O.T. devices!
-
"I told you not to think about it too much!" exclaimed Supercape, rather upset his non-creation that didn't exist was now, indeed, not existing. "Ah well" he sighed. "It didn't really have a right to exist anyway. As it didn't, in fact, exist. But your point is well made. As far as I can tell, its only those in the know, smart people who study it closely, which make it actually collapse from its false state. It should do fine for most practical applications, although I wouldn't want to rely on it long term. No bridges made from it, for instance. "

"Dammit!" cursed slick, as Mad Dog leapt past him. "That's the way to do it!" and with a similar leap, of both body and faith, he followed. The air was dank and unpleasant, and something went crack under his feet as he landed. It sounded awfully like a bone. Just glad its not mine he reminded himself. He played with his torch until the beam of light spewed forth, revealing a dug out cave, and ancient paintings on the wall. And yes, skeletons along with old ceremonial garments and items littered the floor. As he stood aside Mad Dog in the near darkness, a howling wind swept up and the place was filled with ghostly voices screaming ghastly warnings in a language that Slick could not understand, but whose meaning somehow penetrated his brain, or soul, directly.

Draft 2 based on comments (Dropped Living Quarters, dropped holding cells toughness bonus. Added Power: Obscure to ESP, and Power: Dimensional Portal) Size: Huge (Skyscraper / Equal sized building in Hanover district) Toughness: +15 (Steel alloys, super-designed architecture) Features: Combat Simulator Communications Computer Defence Systems (Snare PL 10) Fire Prevention System Garage Hangar Holding Cells 1 ( Nullify 10) Infirmary Laboratory Library Personnel Power System Security System 3 [DC 30] Workshop Power: Obscure 6 (ESP and Radio. Extra: Selective) Power: ESP 4 (All senses, Feats: Dimensional 2 [All non-mystic dimensions] ) Still need feedback from Dragonfly and Gossamer. I am not sure about Holding Cells myself, on reflection. EDIT: Just added this up, its 24 EP. One left over. Possibilities: Living Space (for all nighters, or resident projects), Docks (not a favourite for me, but possible for our submarines and oceanic exploration), or Communication Power. My vote is for Living Space or Communication Power. As I understand it you can live short term in a HQ without Living Space but its not comfortable. i.e. it probably has a kitchenette and a comfortable couch.

Supercape arched an eyebrow "Of course, of course... only guessing lets just say no more shall we?" he said in a congenial manner, tapping his nose and winking in a conspiratorial manner. He watched Miss A study the sphere of quantum material. "Yes, ummm. Look, it dosen't quite exist as I said. So if you study it too hard..."
-
Not sure about Dock myself. Combat Simulator was more of a "Holodeck" where we could run simulations, rather than actual practice combat. Living Space? I'm neutral about it. Obscure to ESP and Concealment sound good for a well designed lab. Possibly Obscure to Radio too. Lets see what others say before making final call. Looks like one more member (+1 PP) would come in handy...

Not contributing, from the horses mouth! SO, for 5 PP we can build something pretty decent. I am presuming the 5 above people are the members of "The Lab". With Doc honorary member. It can always accept new full members who chip in a PP to make it grow and expand (probably by new inventions in it). Working template: Size: Huge (Skyscraper / Equal sized building in Hanover district) Toughness: +15 (Steel alloys, super-designed architecture) Features: Combat Simulator Communications Computer Defence Systems (Snare PL 10) Fire Prevention System Garage Hangar Holding Cells 2 (+50% Toughness and Nullify 10) Infirmary Laboratory Library Living Space Personnel Power System Security System 3 [NB] Workshop This brings us up to 25 EP and I think covers pretty much everything needed for now! Any ideas to modify, speak out The one thing I would like to consider adding in is a dimensional portal.

"Well I don't think I can abandon mine. Its far too cosy" replied Supercape "and flying around in a cape isn't so compatible with it. On the other hand, you make a pertinent point about co-operation. " He started twiddling with a retroprospectoscope in an agitated fashion. "A most excellent point. For instance, I can hardly go about studying this..." he produced a sphere of quantum matter that floated away like a soap bubble "...in my day job, and I don't have the resources to really look into my abilities properly at home. I'm sure given a good laboratory I could discover fascinating things. " He put down the instrument. "Well, I was at that meeting, you know. Actually, you probably do know. I won't say who as, but you may guess. Only guess mind!" he winked "so I hope the pooling of resources does come together. " "Oh, mind the thingy!" he added, as the small sphere of quantum material drifted over to a shelf, and knocked over a precariously balanced rack of test tubes.

I think Hanover is a good idea. Personally I would prefer no one character to have too large a stake in its ownership or rights etc, so it feels truly communal. It could perhaps been sponsored by a wide variety of tech / science institutions/universtities/companies, with the understanding that "the Lab" will mop up accidents gone awry, and generally help out these places. One skyscraper between all these world wide organisations is probably a drop in the ocean for them, for the security that it gives them. At this point, as far as I know, confirmed members are: Supercape Miss A Ironclad Gossamer Need confirmation from (but probably in) Dragonfly Dok A cant (at the moment) commit a PP, and hardly needs another HQ - but I vote is honorary member!
-
Supercape arched his back and twiddled his thumb. She's not stupid he concluded. However, I cant go telling my secret identity to everyone Should have gone to the blasted meeting as Supercape. And should have set Liebniz trousers on fire. But life is too short for "Shoulda" "Yes, the good Doctor has a top rate mind" replied Supercape. "Errr... ummm...." He was still undecided about telling all. I'll show you mine if you show me yours was the only stupid phrase that entered his head. "Sooooo, about this secret identity stuff...." he started, sounding her out.

Its a relatively small painting, and a relatively large window - although barred, you can slip it through. Blake was intending to paint a picture for you, so it will neatly fit through the window. If you have a particularly neat way of funking a bigger one through the window, dont let me stop you!
-
"Well, that meeting set up by Dr Archeville was a good start you know...umm...so I hear...." replied Supercape. He coughed into his hand. "Lots of good idea's there. Pooling resources, maybe even getting some kind of laboratory together. I hear you were there amongst all those boffin chaps. If that kind of cooperation can happen, the skies the limit!" he enthused.
-
"Ummm, not personally, no. A friend may. Although this particular chap seems to be at the other end of the universe right now, so probably a dead end at the moment. Don't suppose you have any space suits do you?" he asked, half seriously. There was so much stuff littering the room, he wouldn't have been surprised. "Nullifying may not be necessary. We could just strip away the atoms, or superheat it until the chemicals fall apart. Probably simplest, if we have somewhere to contain the heat or radiation. "

For those interested, have started a thread discussing communal brainy peoples HQ There seems to be enough interest to make a go of this, I suggest its brought up at some point IC thread.
-
Following on from a discussion in Braniac Brunch OOC (and maybe IC) there is some considerable interest in a communal "lab" HQ for Freedom Cities smartpants heroes. The gadgeteers, scientists, techno-whizzes, and assorted megabrains. In principle this is a communal / social commitment first, but will of course be serving as a fully operational HQ. Hopefully it will be a future meeting place for Braniac's (rather than scruffy old library), and a good location for threads: aside from social threads as brainy people meet, greet and argue / collaborate on science projects, we have: robots going awry, explosions going off, and dimensional portals opening where they should not open too. And all sorts of other mad science stuff. At the moment we have 5 PP to play with. We need a location - any thoughts? I'm thinking central. In principle, I'm thinking of a skyscraper or some similar sized building - i.e. Huge, Toughness +10 (maybe +15 if we go for "super architecture"). My other initial thoughts are: Features: Must Haves (anything brainy!): Communications Computer Infirmary Laboratory Library Workshop Probables: Combat Simulator Power System Security System (one suggestion was a feature to make this just INT based, like solving an equation to get in!) Fire Prevention System Personnel (Book of Magic: staff to clean and maintain the building, lift boys, doormen) Possibles: Defence Systems Garage Hangar Living Space ? Dimensional Portal (Book of Magic: Alternate dimensions) Things not to get: Gym and Pool (hey, its not for working out in) Dock (unless we build it by the river!) Isolated or Concealed (defeats its social / visible purpose) This would probably give plenty of spare EP to play with, so any other thoughts - probably powers I would have thought (or a pet robot butler, or something). Finally, the HQ needs a name. I'm quite fond of just the simple "The lab(oratory)", although Heritage mentioned "The Think Tank" which rings quite well. Any thoughts?

Supercape frowned. And coughed. If he was wearing a bow tie, he would have adjusted it. Indeed, his hands had halfway moved to his neck as his jaw stuck out ever so defiantly. Damn, I wish I was wearing a bow tie right now he thought to himself, in rather an irritated mood. "Yes, well. I suppose a touch of chemical analysis wouldn't go amiss on that front. And perhaps a bit of outer space disposal, if necessary. I mean, how high can you fly?"
-
Consider yourself feeling better!
-
Heritage: Blakes painting can slip through the bars! Dry or wet... well, his psychic madness powers would allow for either!
-
Quentin cautiously raised his hand "I was wondering about the more novel threats we face in Freedom City. Not just the bullet or the fire, but with super villains, aliens, and all sorts of esoteric energies and chemicals flying around. Emergency services may have to face radiation, poison chemicals, and other stuff they won't see. Could we rig up crude geiger counters, or chemical reagents to warn them if they walk into hazard zones? shouldn't be to hard. " "Just thinking a little laterally here" he added, by way of explanation. I'm not much good at the big guns and heavy artillery stuff he conceded to himself thank goodness he decided, on reflection.

Earth Victoriana: The Brit Machine (IC) (GM)
Supercape replied to Supercape's topic in The Realms Beyond
GM Camden Market: Silhouette (And Emily) Emily nodded "I can do that missy! I was doing stitchy stuff for mam!" "Hmph" replied the saleslady, not totally unkindly. "I suppose it will keep her out of trouble. And with her eyes, it will stop anything else getting stolen, I suppose. I can spare some soup and bread for you, girl, and some clothes. And I suppose you can learn a craft whilst you are at it. Better than the workhouse, it is true. If you have the wits to survive on your own, you should have the wits to survive in Camden Market!" The deal was apparently signed, by nods and goodwill rather than with ink. -
Awww... cant you squeeze in a PP... how about a bonus special PP for being Dr Archeville!!!
