"So where is your fiance, and... who is he? if you don't mind me asking. The lucky chap!" he winked. Stesha was far to young for him, of course, but he was a playful chap at heart. And besides, he always found being a bit fruity actually helped defuse things - is Stesha had any sense, she would realise he had no amorous intent. "Do you still speak? is he missing in action? I would have thought with your floral transport system you could pretty much keep in contact with him as and when you wanted?"
-
"Excessive doubt though? I doubt the level of doubt I have. " He chuckled. Then sighed. "I suppose I can still laugh about it. That's a good sign too. Humour is an adult defence mechanism, as Freud said. " He stopped pacing around, realising he was getting into a bit of a frenzy. "Too much C02, anxiety. Deep breaths. Blow it off." He took a cracker and savoured the cheddar. "Splendid", he murmured. "Straight out of Sedgemoor!" He took back his seat and started to relax. "No point getting worked up about it. Doing something is most likely better than doing nothing, paralysed by neurosis. And how about yourself? how's life treating you?"
-
"Well, that simple enough then", answered Slick. "Barricade off one entrance and go in through the other!" "You like like a big strapping man", she winked at Cannonade. "Could you lift a nice truck onto its side, and place it by the front entrance? They won't get through that. Then we go in through the fire escape!" She gave an encouraging squeeze of Cannonade's bicep and another wink.

Also, quick query as I'm not sure of the "angles" here - Supercape intends to use Create object as a funnel - directing the hydrant water stream into fireman's body. I'm not sure if thats feasible with angles etc
-
"Oh, not so bad, Stesha, not so bad. " He cracked his knuckles. "Not, strictly speaking, so awfully good either, of course. " He got to his feet and started pacing. "I just don't get it, I mean, I have a huge cape, I can explode atoms with a click of my fingers..." And so he did, clicking his fingers, and giving a purple flash of light in the room. "...and yet. And yet... I guess I may not have the psychology of a hero. Plagued by self doubt. Should I do this, should I do that. What's the right thing to do. Etcetera Etcetera. I seem to pontificate rather than act. I'm not a man of action. " He sighed, realising he was rambling. "I suppose doubting is better than absolute certainty. "

Seeing the carnage below, Supercape swept down from the clouds. No time to fiddle with weather systems... not sure I could anyway he conceded. Things looked like they were getting serious, and getting serious fast. Like the giant man made of flame. That looked pretty serious. What this needed was a good bit of H20. Damn, I hope "magic" fire needs oxygen too... he mused as he cast his eye around for a solution. The fire hydrants looked attractive. If he could direct the stream... With a snap of his fingers, he unleashed the power of the atom, directed right at the cap of the hydrant...

OK, for Supercape's action, Im going to try and blow off a Fire Hydrant. If its safe to do so, it will be a burst Attack (Rank 10 Burst Damage Perception Range) and get a couple. Otherwise, Just one. As its perception range, automatic hit - I leave the rolling of damage resistance up to you. (Next round it will be create object over them, a funnel that will direct the stream at the fire elemental)

GM "I see chivalry has not died!" smiled Ms. Wells, with great delight. "How fortunate that you four folk are willing to help the Empire. According to my speculatorum, you are positively bristling with power!. " She consulted a few spinning dials and flashing bulbs on the automobile. "As is this entire dimension! at least from a isovibratory perimetricular perspective!". "Now, in order to solve the crisis, I need a sample of Freezonium. Um. That would be some Ice from your dimension. " -
"Oh Cheddar would be sterling." replied Quentin. "Taste of the home country!". "As for drink. Whatever you fancy. Alcohol or caffeine, the choice of psychotropic is yours. " He gazed around the unconventional architecture and its unconventional building material. "Florist eh? I would never have guessed!"

Sure thing aoiroo - although you are all becotsumed from ms wells perspective! That is an important poimt howqever for all characters - how much flwsh is being flashed?

"Well, I just assumed you were busy, um..." he swept an arm in a panoramic manner over the magnificent landscape "...tending the weeds, so to speak." "Actually, I really have no idea what you do outside save the world, rescue students from bath tubs, attend lectures, and own your own planet. Although that in itself is sufficient to be impress me. " He winked. "Especially the bath tub bit, of course. " He stretched his legs slightly, not bothering to get up. Relaxation was key to being a Superhero, he had decided - although he drew the line at playing golf here. "What grape?" he asked, pondering his choice of drink.

At this point, Supercape is pondering exactly what he can do to put out them damn fires! For the moment, that means circling the fiery building - looking for two things 1. Anyone trying to leave who is trapped and 2. If there is any part of the building that he could collapse to snuff out the fire). For the purposes of the action (I am not sure if he is actually in combat) I'm going to make a general roll for searching / noticing (not sure which skill you want) 1d20=10 He has +10 Notice skill (total 20), and +4 Search (+14) For reference, initiative is 1d20=19 Nice, but it may be academic at the moment!

Earth Victoriana: The Brit Machine (IC) (GM)

GM The elegant lady turned to the assembled four heroes. "I am Ms. Henrietta Wells, of the Royal Metaphysical Institute. And yes, they do accept ladies on occasion, please accept my assurances on the matter. " She wafted away some particularly acrid smoke. "The British Empire and his Glorious Majesty Charles have something of a crisis, and we have determined that the source is not of our dimension. " With some theatre, she drew what appeared to be a Gieger counter, if a Gieger counter was made of silver sphagetti whistles, vibrating tin electrodes, and had a wind up power source. After a few rapid circulations of the wheel to crank the device into operation, she pointed the thing in the air, and noted with an arched eyebrow the clicks when it came to the four heroes in front of her. "An unusual amount of global dimensional meta-interference" she noted. "I wonder if you are the source... or the solution?" With a pleasant smile at Grimalkin, she answered the question. "It's not entirely made of Iron, my dear. Some zinc, tin, Londinium and Victorium. And the seats are made from the finest oak!" -
With a jaunty salute (well, he didn't know what else to do), Supercape flew off and when in position, teleported himself back to his appartment. His clothes reformed into a comfortable set of evening wear ones. He gingerly fingered his bruised ribs. Shields up, next time - as Captain Kirk would say. Damn these kids, he couldn't keep up with them - Zoom or no zoom. He walked into his study, kicked off his shoes, and let out a sigh. After a few moments he started a crossword. Damned if he wasn't going to have a few hours at a slower pace!

Slick pondered the situation. As tempting as "unsubtle" was, it was also complicated. Who was in the building? what was the layout of the building? who was innocent and who was less so? "I don't know. It looks complicated. Could be a lot of confusion, which means could be escapes, which we don't want. " "If we go in, we need to block of the entrance, or entrances. I don't know how many it has, and if there are any ones we can't see."

Ok: carrie would know this is very peculiar technology, the design of the car Is totally out of keeping with current developments and thinking Cannonade: the dress and car are reminiscent of 100 years ago in style, but NOT identical - if it did come from that time, it would have been peculiar. He would also know the technology would be too advanced for 100 years ago, at least as far as is known.

Disliking the crowds, Supercape had floated up above the dome and was now surveying the scene. He didn't pretend to "get" magic.. as far as he was concerned it was just science that defied his understanding. However, fire he understood. There was something about the voice. Gifts? He knew a little mythology, of course, from his days studying Latin at school. Fire was a common gift from the gods. Very Promethean, this he mused to himself. None of which, of course, solved the problem that fire burns and kills people. He looked up. A few clouds in the sky. He hadn't tried it, and meteorology wasn't his thing, but perhaps coaxing some rain might work. Now, what causes precipitation again?

For the sake of completeness, if anyone can make knowledge (history) or knowledge (technology) rolls - trained only in this case, make 'em!

Earth Victoriana: The Brit Machine (IC) (GM)
Supercape replied to Supercape's topic in The Realms Beyond
GM As the smoke and steam cleared a little, the lady gave a series of polite coughs. She looked at the two costume clad heroes beside her. "Good heavens, I am in... the colonies? she exclaimed. Not texas, I hope. You don't sound Texan. Mind you, those... cowboys I think they are called do wear masks don't they..." She spoke with an English accent, clipped, and very proper. She could have taught elocution at a Swiss finishing school. She offered her hand to Edge. "Miss Henrietta Wells. You are delighted to make my acquaintance, I am sure. " -
Sorry its starting in FC. As you may well have gathered, you will soon be carted of to Earth Victoriana in an Iron Wrought Steam powered Automobile ala "Back to the Future".
-
For all shenanigans in this thread. Silhoutte, Edge, Cannonade, and Heritage have signed up. Spiffing.

GM On 28th Avenue the traffic was still busy, even if it was past peak rush hour. Horns honked, people bustled, and occasionally shouted if an elbow was stuck out too far. It was a typical day in Freedom city. Except now, the horns had started out in force. Those lights really had stayed red far too long. There was something a little wrong in the air, a smell of ozone, and cheap oil. Overhead, some sparks flew from the traffic lights as they shorted out. Steam blew out of several cars at the crossing, in an almost musical cacophony. With an screeching WUMPH noise and explosion of steam, the bonnets of said cars blew open. The sounds of cogs and springs and lightning filled the air, and smoke belched from the epicentre of the chaos. The smoke slowly cleared, revealing what could only be described as an automobile. It looked like a cross between Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and a church organ, with pipes, steam, cogwheels and various pumps and spinning things adorning it. It was made from finely wrought iron, wheels and all. Stitting at the wheel (and various levers and dials) was a pretty lady wearing a full length dress and corset, with reading spectacles atop her nose, her hair in a tight bun, and what appeared to be a Chinese perambulator tucked under one arm. A few patches of soot did little to dispel her class and elegance.

"Well, I shall be sure to bee... have then." Chuckled Quentin. He flashed a smile at Stesha. "Beehave...Bee...have. Never mind." He loved the rich complexity of this world, and the tranquil calm that washed over him. If he could rent a room here, he would. Aside from the solitude it offered, it was quite simply magnificent in complexity and splendour. The smells, if nothing else. His senses (and not just the normal ones) delighted in the organic beauty that surrounded him. Taking a seat, he crossed his legs and undid his bow tie, stuffing it into a tweed pocket. "So, what ails, you?" he asked, pleasantly.
-
"Why Stesha, how delightful it is to see you" exclaimed Quentin, reaching for the lapels of his tweed jacket and smiling. And delighted he was. Why, his jacket even twinkled slightly. "Of course, of course, my dear, It would be a pleasure. What's the matter? Reverse Parallactic Differentiation troubling you... why, took me a few weeks to crack that one when I was your age, I can tell you. " "And no, I had no particular plans tonight. There was a wine tasting event at LeGrande's wine emporium, but nothing I cant miss. "
