GM April 4th Rapa Nui, W.E.S.T Headquarters A light rain had greeted Dr North as the WEST plane landed. He was not in a good mood, and the tepid precipitation suited. Now he was in the reinforced WEST headquarters on Rapa Nui, affectionately known as EAST. There was the usual reports of threats across the globe on his desk. Most of these didn't pan out to anything serious, or needed only further management by the other local or world authorities. An Ebola outbreak in Africa. A mutated Crocodile in New Orleans. Metaphasic radiation in Freedom City. The normal. The major problem was the reappearance of Doctor Archeville. And the threat he may or may not pose. To Doctor Norris North's educated mind, Doctor Archeville was a net neutral. He could solve as many problems as he created. He could save as many lives as he created. He harboured no particular distrust of the man or the personality, or any particular warmth either. It was a situation that should be managed, and by his estimation that meant diplomacy and investigation. That meant W.E.S.T. The world was most keen for W.E.S.T. to keep a heavy eye on Doctor Archeville and his experiments. They wanted, as normal, the impossible. All he could do was meet them halfway. He felt, like normal, that he was playing an impossible game of chess with mysterious new pieces. In any case, he had requested Doctor Archeville meet him at EAST. He would have to size up the risks and benefits of the man. He hoped very very much it would be less of the former, more of the latter... But if there was a hazard, he was prepared. And he had asked Delta to be on site. In case they needed some heavy blasters...

GM Jones was not smart, clearly, but he was not exactly a fool. Yet, however slim the prospect of helping Anna was (other than in the way of Revenge!) he could not pass up the chance. He gave a noncholant shrug, but behind the pose was a gleaming sliver of hope that shone over his face. The computer had security on it, of course, but Robin cut through the system like a knife through butter. She knew the flow of data and the stream of code. The problem was not the systems design, but the systems design. Or to put it another way, it was easy for her to get in, but once she was in, the system was a mess. The amount of data was immense, and poorly ordered. Finding anything of value here would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. With the smallest needle in the world, and the largest haystack. "Come on..." grumbled an impatient Jones. And not without reason - for the time was short, and reinforcements or some other reprisal was surely minutes away at best. "Boom boom, shake the room!" he grunted in a deep voice, taking out his brick of plastic explosives complete with home made (and rather well made) timer.

Flux Quill immediately tensed. Robed figures were remarkably ominious, in his opinion. They spoke of horrible cults and machevillian spies. And this only applied doubly for robed figures who faces (if indeed they had any faces) were in darkness. "I am not a Praetorian" he said, speaking for himself. Although he wondered if he was an honorary one or something. Was he being honest and truthful, or deceptively truthful? "We can't leave without knowing what is happening here" he said, earnestly. "No matter the danger of staying, there is double the danger of leaving without understanding" he summised. "If you want us to leave, help us understand..."

ic Fight them on the Beaches (IC)
Supercape replied to Supercape's topic in Rivers, Lakes and Oceans
GM The rubble exploded inches away from the rear tire, just missing it. Such was the force of the throw that even the miss caused a splintering of shrapnel, that threatened to burst the tire. The bike even gave a wobble. For one moment, it seemed Sir Prize would be out of luck, but the bike straightened and the tire held. For now, fortune was with him. Lady Key turned round, glaring at Chromium. She didn't like being unseated. Perhaps, as they sped away, there was a look of admiration, but it was a dark and cloudy look. Her fingers flexed, as if readying herself for some act of war or violence, although neither was forthcoming. And now, the crowd of anarchists and latcher on came driving, running, and stumbling towards Chromium, with the might Fascimile at its head. "Where did Sir Prize go?" came the gasps and muted dissapointment. -

That is indeed a miss - if the bike was stationary it would hit, but not whilst moving! -
GM For the first time, Jones paused and actually properly contemplated what Justice said. He chewed his lip in thought. "Mhammm....Anna...I mean ah....I was told blowing it up would work real good" he said, about 75% sure of himself. This was a drop of 25%. Maybe more. "I got enough explosives for this building. Ahm pretty sure its only gonna blow up this building" he said, chewing his lip again. "But..." Legasp! He was capitulating! "I spose if you know computers and fancy stuff like that, maybe would could be sure we only blow up this place, and nobody else gets hurt, right?" he asked Justice, hoping for reassurance. He was not a main for inactivity at the best of times, and with his body flush with rage, his brain sparking with catecholamines, he was not going to stop now. He tore down the lab door like it was paper. Inside, there was indeed a laboratory, full of computers and gadgets and stuff that looked and indeed was very scientific. In the centre, a cylinder of reinforced glass full of glowing green gas that looked semi-transculcent. Around the laboratory walls were a number of robots. They looked rather like Nuetron Industry Killbots. After all, they had "NEUTON INDUSTRY KILLBOT" stenciled onto their chests. They were man sized, armoured, with blasters and photonic eyes. And most were half dissasembled, with wires and monitoring devices leading to the computer banks. The remaining few robots were more than half dissasembled - and little more than spare parts.

GM In a flash of instant, Captain Cosmos changed! He was completely flat. A very two dimensional character. But his brain breathed a sigh of relief as the pressure came off. The after effects...well, they would linger. He dashed through the air, his form twisted so that those gunmen peering down would see nothing. Perhaps they might catch a sliver of activity if they were at the edge of the hole, but at this angle it would be most hard to see him, if they could at all... But his fist was still real, and he swung it with all his might at the lead gunman! He had to credit the gentleman with the grit to still be standing after the first punch. Few would have. But now, Captain Cosmos would pull no punches! Especially flat two-dimensional ones!
-
ok! Free Action: Change to 2-D Form! Move Action: Move to the Gunman leader (flight), making sure he positions himself so the LOS down the hole is the same as his 2D form (i.e. invisible from the POV!) Standard Action: A straight punch! Attack: 1d20+5 19 if that hits, DC 30 Tough!

I'm fine with rules as they are. The inventor etc feats are cheap, powerful when used but not usable that often. If you haven't used them (I am pretty sure DrA uses them in a thread i ran) that's because too many threads are run over a one off encounter and / or short time scale. Having a skeleton key to a problem available in a short time scale sounds fun in practice but isn't. I'd come in this at a different angle. Let's have threads were the player has a few hours or days to whip something up, after the initial problem arrives! EDIT: I also had a thought about encouraging use of craft and knowledge skills outside of the "inventor / artificer / ritualist box". Personally I am happy for people to whip up a glue or explosives with a lab and craft chemical skills, or work out a robots vulnerable spot, or radio transmission frequencies with a good knowledge tech skills. Or construct a trap with craft mechanical / structural, or get an intimidate bonus with their life history and knowledge behaviour sciences roll, etc. I personally think you should be able to knock up some useful stuff with just the materials and a craft skill.

GM The Hornet gave Tsunami a glittering glare that was amused and wicked. "I have neglected you too long. Those fools in Freedom City turned coat, and the Tong failed me. I should really have redoubled my efforts. Although I had other noodles to boil then. But not now!" he grinned. He was fast, no doubt. And agile. And he moved across the ceiling like a dancer. Or Kung Fu Master. He may well have been both, and in a suit of powered crystal armour. A formidable enemy. In a flash he had smashed through the skylight and was out on the roof...

The Hornet will respond by crawling out of the skylight (move action) and jumping away! The chase is on! You are up @Tiffany Korta!

Cap Cosmos "You think bullets are going to stop me?" asked Captain Cosmos, almost contemptiously. He barely made the effort to avoid them. He looked above and saw the hostage taking. That wasn't good. He wasn't a negotiator. He wondered how much he had actually achieved. Not a whole hill of beans...as his father would say. But damn his father. He was Captain Cosmos! He turned his attention back to the lead gunman. He took his time and took a carefully aimed, lazy, short swing at the gunman. At least that would be one out for the count. He moved back to make sure the gunmen could not see him. Although he could continue to easily see and hear them...
-
Well its a start! Maintaining 4 - Dimensional form so he can see and hear through walls. Acuurate +2 / DC -2 Punch: Punch Gunman: 1d20+7 22 I hope that hits, and if so its a DC 28 Tough Save. For a move action he will move away from any LOS that the gunman may have on him in the floor below.

GM "Hmmm. Good thing I brought some!" said Jones, half happy half furious. He patted the inside of his jacket. Not too hard, however. Stomp Stomp Stomp The sounds of Jones armoured boots on the metal floor. He wasn't rushing, but he wasn't slacking either. At the end of a corridor was a door with. CAUTION - METAPHASIC RADIATION Written in large red letters. "There" he muttered. "This place is poison. They hurt someone good. Someone trying to stop them, trying to do the right thing, the right way. All that happened is someone got hurt badly. So now, its time to do the right thing the wrong way...the way that works...."
-
GM Not much effort was a relative thing. When one was strong enough to bend steel, even a lazy blow could splinter bone. Even giant bone. The punch cracked a giant knee. There was an uncomfortable click sound as it dislodged. Perhaps the sound of tendons snapping. "Ow!" grumbled the giant through gritted teeth. Teeth gritted so hard his unruly and filthy beard was trembling in sympathy. He fell forward onto his knees. "Ow!" he noted, again. Quite accurately. The pain must have been a lance of fire, but these giants were bold and fearless. Even so, his eyes glazed over for a second. He tried to get up, and promptly fell on his rear end. There would be a large pair of depressions in the grassy hill for years to come.

A mighty punch! And Dreadnought is up, @Exaccus

GM "Neat" commented Jones as the elevator box splintered open, having no chance against a mighty Justice kick. "You are getting the hang of the smashing!" he added, applauding her destructive power. "Together, we gonna bring this place DOWN. With your kick and my lunch. By arm or leg!"... .... Fortunately the elevator was empty. No pizza of mashed and flattened flesh. No splatter of blood against the walls. Just bent and distorted metal and a flashing emergency light. "Let's get this party started!" said a keen Jones. "You got any explosives with you?"

Cap Cosmos A cheerleader! of sorts. It was nice to get someone enthusiastic and not implant microchips in his brain via placebionic radiation. He pushed that thought out of his brain. 'Twas madness. Or was it? He was suddenly aware he didn't really know how to fight. He could bend iron girders and lift tanks. But he didn't really know how to fight, did he? And there were ten gunmen. How was he going to do this? And what did "the deal" mean? A flash of inspiration, and he brought back a mighty cosmic fist, holding it high. "Going down!" he shouted in a deep and what he hoped was cool voice. Then he smashed the fist down, hard, onto the floor beneath him and the lead gunman - with a force so hard it could splinter steel. With a force, he hoped that would send them both down to the floor below in a shower of dust and shattered masonry!
-
Ok, Im going to assume the gunmen are two spread out to get with an AoE cone. More worrisome is there are a lot of gunmen here and Cap isn't really skilled at taking down large groups. Still, them are the breaks. So he will something a little peculiar. He is going to punch a hole in the floor (I am going to presume this is not the ground floor, at least is not a ground floor with no basement) below him and the Gunman leader so hopefully they both fall through and get out of sight! Attacking the floor to make it a DC 30 Toughness save. or, if you feel p167 applies (I think it does, but your call) its a full round action and the floor makes a save at a fixed 5+its toughness rating (no roll) vs 34 (adding Caps four ranks of super strength). I hope thats enough to disable the floor (i.e. punch a hole in it) - if my calculations are correct it would need a toughness of 19 to do so which would be a super-alloy! (but GMs call of course!) Ill proactively make a toughness roll for Buddy's fall if needed (he has flight, but he is going down with the ship to make it look like they have both gone down): Tough vs Fall: 1d20+15 22 should be enough!

Supercape replied to Supercape's topic in Rivers, Lakes and Oceans
GM "Pfah! Less people hurt in these explosions than the filth this building produced!" retorted Lady Key. "Did we kill anybody? No, I think not. All carefully planned!" she said proudly. "Anarchy should not be controlled!" roared Sir Prize. He now hefted his spiked mace and pointed directly at Chromium. "Do ye seek to control it? Do you seek to control us? I think not, Sir!" he said, boldly. "We will not surrender ourselves to the authorities. No! We are not part of the system!" "We shall make haste and be off! To adventures new! To be free!" he said, climbing onto his motorcycle. Lady Key got on behind him, grabbing him tightly and with some infection. "FREE!" roared Sir Prize once again, bellowing to the heavens and igniting the engine of his bike...
