Gabriel gave a smirk as he lined up the index and middle fingers of his right hand like he was aiming a gun at one of the shark-men, his other hand resting his spear against his shoulder. "These folks would throw absolutely terrible potluck dinners." He fired off a couple of quick bursts of sonic energy, striking the shark-cultist in the side with bone-shaking force. In truth, he was using humor to disguise his slight discomfort at trying to debate theology while fighting a cult of shark-god-worshipping cultist drug-user were-sharks. Which in and of itself was enough of a concept to make a man's head spin...
  3. No concrete actions, other than going with another Auto-30 Intimidate if he's still reluctant. Otherwise Gabriel's just kind of laying the situation out for him. Move action if the guy gets moving this round.
  4. Gabriel gave the man a flat look that clearly said he didn't believe anything he was saying. He pointed firmly with his empty hand, indicating the police lines. "Yeah, I'm sure you were "just" the getaway driver. Doesn't matter, buddy. You're taking a walk with me to those nice federal agents. I'd prefer the two of us kept it a nice stroll, instead of me reducing you to a vomiting wreck and dragging you foot-first over the parking lot. But it's up to you." The casual manner in which he laid out this hypothetical said his preference wasn't very strong, though.
  5. That's sort of what I figured. Maybe I'm not being active enough in invoking my Complications or something, but in all my threads on this board, I think I've gotten Complication-related HP like....2-3 times. Most of my GM-given Hero Points are due to Fiat and the like. And as invaluable as I keep finding HP to be, Luck feels like an invaluable investment. Could we compromise, and I remove 1 rank of the feat? I'm going to drop his Enhanced Charisma by 2 (so 1 less on mod), and drop 2 ranks of the skills. That'll give him a +14 when he's got his superpowers involved.
  6. Right, Gabreil will go after Shark 2. Standard Action: Ranged Attack against Shark 2 20. Um, if that hits, DC 27, Autofire probably not. If it doesn't hit, Hero Point Reroll. 13, but that becomes 23 with the HP angle. Sigh. So, yes, either way, Toughness DC 27, Autofire if it matters.
  7. Corbin had been enjoying the game, giving the occasional "Yes!" or wordless cheer when an excellent play was made. When the home team won, he threw both hands in the air for a moment (not spilling anything!). "All right!" He returned Quo-Dis's hug with a smile before standing up to stretch. "Football's got layers, for sure. Though, I dunno. I bet if I practiced a bit, I could get out on the gridiron." With a cheesy grin he took a moment to make a football-ish pose, before walking over to check the bar for snacks (there weren't many/any left). He was about to take Quo-Dis up on her offer of getting a snack when Erin spoke up. Part of him realized at least some of the reason was likely the awkward moments through the evening, and he couldn't help feeling a bit hurt. He understood Erin's reluctance to get involved in "drama", but he'd hoped there wouldn't be any... Still, they'd stayed, and they'd been polite about the whole thing. And Erin even said she'd been willing to get together again. 'That's more than Blake and Jessica ever did...' He shook off that brief, bitter thought, and stepped over to offer Erin and Trevor each a handshake. "No, that's fine. Duty calls, and all that. We're probably lucky someone didn't pull off a wacky super-crime while the game was going on that we had to stop. It was nice to hang out and relax for a while. We'll let you know when we can do this again." He moved to stand next to Quo-Dis, giving her a firm one-armed hug as he nodded at the quiet couple. "Really, thanks for coming over. It was nice. And fun. And insightful."

Power Descriptions: (OOC: The same as Prime!Gabriel, barring the note below.) History: Anti-Earth Ireland has rarely been a kind place. Its already-difficult history worsened on a world run by villains, and the entire island nation was beset by the deprivations of a cruel and merciless British Empire. What super-powered sons and daughters of Ireland made it to adulthood seemed destined to be either lackeys of the English, or ran to America to try and toady up to the Crime League. The most patriotic people were the scattered remnants of the Irish mafia and a few "freedom fighters", and even they were losing whatever passed for hope among their lot. This was the life the Keefe family survived in. This was the life that, at age 12, took Carson Finbar Keefe's family away. Only he and his younger sister Riona survived the bomb blast, mostly by virtue of playing in the snow outside while their family was talking business (and his mother was scolding Doyle) with some friends inside the family bar. This was the Ireland that tried to take in two children suddenly thrust into a cold, terrifying world. Carson quickly learned that no one cared about them, and the only way to survive and stay together was to be cunning, brutal, and ruthless. He learned to fight and lie and charm and tell just enough truth to get his way. By the time he was 18, Carson was well-adapted to living in his world's dark mirror of Dublin, at the fringes of their society. He and his sister survived, mostly on Carson's efforts. The sliver of decency left in him was determined to keep her save and comparatively "clean" of his criminal deeds. But Riona was an intelligent girl, and she knew what her brother did; she simply chose to not care, for fear of having nothing left int the world, and being alone at age 14. One night, Carson had a terrible, terrible dream; it was death and violence and suffering, and it promised a terrible fate for both himself and his sister. At the end of a dream, he met a man in a gleaming white suit. The man's smile was bright, his hair perfectly combed, and the cane he carried was clearly just for show and style. Even the reflective sunglasses just gave him that extra "flair". The man just said his name was Nick, and he could help Carson make sure that that dream never happened. In fact, he promised that his gifts would make sure Ireland broke free of its chains, and was never again shackled by England. All thanks to Carson! The boy agreed almost eagerly, never looking close enough to recognize the fiery glint behind the glasses... When he awoke, he somehow knew what power he held, and he saw the black clothing beside his bed...That was the day Morningstar came to Ireland, and the country was never the same. Within 5 years, Ireland was a sovereign nation, with a King ruling over them, and a slowly-growing economy. For all that some decried him as a ruthless overlord who cared not for his subjects, Carson was an efficient man. By the time he was King, he barely had to fight; a couple of minutes of conversation, and a mortal enemy was a friend! His words were so convincing that the longer he was around, the more his people loved him. Even some of his enemies who saw a speech or two couldn't help but admire his hard work and dedication. For Morningstar, his rule was less about "crime all the time", and more about "This is My Island". Challenges to his authority were not to be brooked, and threats to his nation were, at best, talked into helplessness; at worse, they were crushed utterly. When word came of the Fae Realms seeking to rise again, Morningstar ensured he and his people were armed with iron and steel to "greet" them. The night before the battle, Nick came again, this time as an "angel of light". But Carson had grown wiser in the intervening years, and had an inkling who he faced. But when Lucifer Morningstar confirmed his identity, he surprised Carson by stating he didn't want his soul on a contract (though of course the Prince of Lies was not immediately believed). He much preferred the route Carson was taking without any urging; besides, he found it amusing to have a "personal champion" on the planet who was doing what he did without any strings attached. Which was why he gifted his Champion with a set of armor, a crown, and a sword to bear in the upcoming fight. After all, why make someone sign their soul away, when they were already handing it to you on a silver platter? The part of Carson that protested was buried with the thoughts that becoming more powerful would help keep Riona safe. So he took up Nick's offer, ignoring the laughter. He had a nation to defend from interlopers. He awoke wearing his now-infamous armor, and by the end of the week the Fae had been routed, with a counter-assault (enabled by a handful of minor mystical talents Morningstar had recruited) taking another couple of weeks. By the end, the Fae realms had learned to never again touch the Emerald Isle, and Morningstar had rescued three prisoners trapped in seemingly-eternal sleep. Of course, their gratitude was so boundless when they awoke that the King found himself with three Queens, each just as cunning as he. Their temperaments varied enough that the 4 of them balanced each other out, which only made them more dangerous. Today Ireland stands as a center of industry, science, and even culture. Their King and Queens handily drive off invaders. Their Army of Light stands strong, with the leaders often being metahumans loyal to the King. The British Empire, and the rest of Europe, watch nervously as Ireland's power only grows. And on his throne, Morningstar sits and waits, pondering the future.... Personality & Motivation: Morningstar is a ruthless man, willing to exploit any and every advantage in his arsenal to accomplish his objectives. He has used violence, threats of violence, promises of friendship, promises of unending war, seduction, denial, lies, and truth. He would willingly sacrifice anyone except his wives and his sister to accomplish anything. But he's also cunning; he knows the value of loyalty in his subjects, and so he ensures that those who are sacrificed want to be sacrificed. He uses actions and decisions to gain that loyalty, but just as much he uses his silver tongue, the power of his oration, to win them over. Carson is reserved; few people ever see even a hint of his emotions. Only his family tends to see much of anything beyond "detached amusement" or "cold determination". When he's been driven to public anger, people have died, armies have been routed, and buildings have crumbled. Morninstar feels empathy for almost no one; he simply does not care about people (except for his family). This is at least partially a defense mechanism, as he learned that caring meant you could be hurt more easily. He is methodical, meticulous, articulate, patient, ambitious. And at the end of the day, Morningstar is King. Powers & Tactics: (OOC: Roughly the same as Prime!Gabriel.) Complications: All Abilities, Saves, Combat, Skills, Feats, and Powers the same as Prime!Gabriel. (OOC: Only main difference is that his weapon is a sword not a spear, and instead of Dimensional Travel it can activate a Hellfire descriptor for damage. Also no HQ on Sanctuary, and a few ranks of Benefit to represent being, you know, the King of Ireland. And instead of Perform: Acting he has Perform: Oratory.)

Power Descriptions: Carson's body has the natural ability to process ultra-high sounds and interpret them as information on his surroundings. As well, he has a subtle aura of super-high and super-low sound waves that can affect how people interpret his words, expressions, and body language. These waves operate on frequencies where they are felt rather than heard, and serves to help his social interactions across the board. His is able to produce a "sonic scream", a blast of alternating high and low frequency sound waves that carry enough force to knock down doors and knock men out. However, he has never been able to refine his accuracy, and can only produce a large, cone-shaped blast of sonic energy. History: Carson's family immigrated when he was still a young child; only his older brother Brody stayed in Ireland, as he'd found work with the local police (and later went on to join Interpol). It was only a couple of years before their family became naturalized citizens, but even with that paperwork saying they belonged, they still faced the difficulties of prejudice. They endured, and in time Doyle and Angus Keefe managed to get a small family pub opened up in their home neighborhood. Business started to boom, and the friendly family made sure anyone was welcome, and that fights went outside. But while his father and older brother found their passion in food and drink, Carson himself felt discontent. Ultimately, when he graduated high school, he decided to follow the example of his older brother Brody and go into law enforcement. But instead of Interpol, he sought to become an agent of the Federaul Bureau of Investigation; the FBI had, for many years now, been a place that welcomed Irish Catholics without hesitation (as so many were founding members of the institution). Carson worked hard and studied hard for the next few years, and with the encouragement of his family, he got himself into the FBI. Of course, it wasn't too long before his immediate superior discovered Carson's more...unique...abilities, and decided to assign him to the Special Investigation Division (the "Black Cats"), a semi-official section of the FBI dedicated to investigating the more outlandish happenings. Carson was in over his head, but he thankfully had the tenacity and luck to survive and learn lessons, and he rapidly became one of the most successful and respected members of FBI's SID. Of course, he loved doing field work so much he never seemed to come up for promotion beyond Special Agent, but that was a situation that suited him just fine. Ten years of hard work in the field have left their marks on Carson, but despite his scars and bruises, he remains dedicated. Despite often being assigned as the lone federal agent in a city, and sometimes being the only honest man around, he's never lost his faith or his dedication to justice. Personality & Motivation: Carson is a pleasant, hardworking man who tries to be friendly and helpful to anyone he meets, and always tries to have time to listen to a friend's problems. He tries to give thoughtful advice when he can, or direct his friends to those who can give such advice. He's a bit of a sucker for kids, women, and family men down on their luck; while it's gotten him into trouble in the past, he can't seem to shake that immediate desire to help. Despite facing some pretty nasty situations, including corrupt police departments and even FBI agents, Carson has never shaken his firm sense of morals or his deeply-rooted idealism. When dealing with criminals, he's typically stern and fast-acting, but not spiteful or angry. His anger only rises to the surface when dealing with particularly loathsome individuals, such as those who endanger women and children, and those who traffic in the Darker Powers. His odd appearance (both his clothing and his hair) often earns him a bit of distrust or even insults from others; he always brushes these reactions off with a smile and a bit of humor. Powers & Tactics: Nine times out of ten, Carson will try to first use words to solve a confrontation. Failing that, he will try to use his fists to take someone down without lethal force or property destruction. When faced with a group of attackers, he will often bellow out a couple of screams before going for a few finisher punches. He only draws his gun in situations where fists aren't enough and his scream would do more harm than good, or where he knows the specially-coated bullets will be needed more than his powerful yells. Complications: Appreciates Art: Carson is an upstanding gentleman, and has never been anything but polite with the women he meets. However, he can be a bit of a harmless flirt, and occasionally fines ladies distracting. Took an Oath: Carson takes his oaths as an FBI agent very seriously; most seriously was his promise to protect the citizens of the nation. Given a choice between stopping a criminal or protecting a bystander, he will always choose the latter. Often he will take almost reckless chances to protect a civilian from harm. Knight in a White Suit: Carson has a chivalrous streak 3 miles wide, and will go out of his way to not only be polite to women, but to protect them from harm. His instinct to protect women sometimes blinds him to the wiles of particularly devious female criminals, though he does not take kindly to a woman who takes advantage of that instinct. Prejudice: Carson is a white-haired Irish Catholic FBI agent; plenty of people find one or more of these things to be offensive enough to give him trouble. Can't Betray the Law: Carson believes firmly in the importance of the law, enough such that he will never take advantageous "shortcuts" if they conflict with the laws (and his oaths to uphold them). Fatal Flaw: Only Honest Man in a Dishonest Town: Even when working in a corrupt city where the local police are in collusion with criminal elements, Gabriel won't compromise. He will, if he feels it necessary, attempt to confront or arrest any number of officials who he finds in contempt of the law, even if good sense would tell him to back down (even temporarily). He also makes no secret of his unwavering dedication to his principles, meaning he marks himself a target for those who prefer to keep things "running smoothly". He can even butt heads with his superiors if a particularly influential person was found breaking a "minor" law. All told, Carson's determination to never compromise may one day earn him too many enemies at once.   13. You don't need brackets around the number of ranks you have in a skill. You'd write one like this: Skill 3 (+5) Drive needs the relevant stat added in. I'm sorry for my mistake about the bike's structure earlier, that is how AA wrote it. As for the #s on his abilities, it might just be a math error, those slip in occasionally. I would say you could justify either. The Space Hog is a flying machine, yes, but the closest analogue is a motorbike, which is drive. Either one works, I'd think, but just do one and you're fine. :)

Well, some scifi-standard stuff... -Non-human skin tone. -Pointy or otherwise different ears. -Eyes that are 1 solid color, or maybe even multifaceted, or have differently-shaped pupils. -Skin has a slightly scaly quality to it, without being super-scaly. -Various extra bumps or ridges or whatnot on the face/head. -Something "off" with her voice, like an echo or a tinny quality or something like that. Or any combo thereof!
  15. In thinking further, the 3rd arm feels out of place. Maybe give her stretchy arms, and one or two cosmetic differences to humans? That way she's alien, but it's not too "wacky" or anything. Not saying you have to, though! That's definitely just a suggestion. :)
  16. Overall, pretty solid. A couple quick reminder links: Newbie Guide, House Rules, and Character Building Hub (links to lots of pre-made builds you can totally scavenge from like a champion). Next, Crunch. Arichamus hit good points on formatting. Feel free to look at other people's sheets to get a sense of how we tend to format. -You might consider making the natural Strenght 20-24, and making some of that Enhanced. It'd give a small stuntable power. But as she's a non-human species, 30 isn't too crazy, and is fine where it is, too. -Attack looks good. Defense seems like the line got chopped off; you've got Dodge Focus 2, so the flat-footed # makes sense. -Saves are solid. Nothing wrong with having them all be even, especially since she looks to be a somewhat generic bruiser/fisticuff type. -English would only cost 1 skill point for language. Your native language is free, unless both English and Galstandard are "foreign". If 1 of the 2 is your native, maybe put that extra point in Drive? -If you've got free points, consider boosting Drive a bit, since "drives a sweet bike" is a central idea to the character. Otherwise skillset looks good; all fit the concept pretty well. -Feats looks solid. Definitely gives the impression of a "scrapper" type, which seemed to be what you were going for! (Also, Luck is totes awesome for the extra HP.) -Powers. Let's see. The Additional Limb is a bit confusing; does she grown an arm? How does that work? Not dissing the idea, just not visualizing it well. -The Space Hog might be better served as an Easy-to-Lose Device, if not Equipment. Unless she can basically summon it back at will such that it's effectively never lost. -You might consider dropping her Impervious a bit, at least starting out, so she has at least a chance of getting hurt. Nothing wrong with being super-tough, but as-is it might get a bit boring, since she could just ignore a lot of villains. Unless she constantly jumps in front of bystanders and allies, then it's perfect! -Is the protection just because she's got tough physiology? If so, you might consider shaving off enough Impervious to make that Protection into Enhanced Con or something. Overall, not a flashy character in general, but a very solid idea, good thematic fit, and a good base to grow from. Now, for Fluff. -The general concept is actually really good. Schitzo-tech planets are always fun, and I like the angle of how their planet got destroyed, but there's still plenty of survivors. It's a nice element of tragedy, and it could lead to some legitimate troubles and discrimination in her past. Perhaps make the accident just a "science experiment" rather than a "science fair project". After all, people here on earth freaked out about the Large Hadron Collider! -I do like the idea she's got a big family, there's lots of story potential there. -I think it's good that while you gave her some rebellious and rough moments in her past, she decided there were lines she wouldn't cross, and that's what led to her being a hero. Not everyone has to start out like Superman, so variety in backgrounds is good! -I think the "country girl comes to the big city" angle is pretty solid. Her being a space-cowgirl is really fun, and definitely a good starting point. Nothing wrong with a character who has a bit of fun punching bad guys in the face! She has room to grow, but is clearly set up as her own character. Now, the 2 things that, for me personally, are a bit of a sticking point. -Her people's name. Nothing wrong with a planet that was perceived as ignorant space hicks, if they aren't actually totally ignorant space hicks, but instead just old-fashioned and laid back (which does generally seem to be what you did, which is good!). But....I personally would say naming them the "Hilbis" is a bit much, at least as an "official" name. Maybe make that a derogatory name other cultures call them, but outside of a few country music songs or whatnot, people on earth don't call themselves "hillbillies". Try for something that gives a more rustic feel with a touch of flair and class. I am terrible with names though, so. -Coupled with that, the last name being "Bob" is....also a bit much. I don't think there are many people named "Billy Bob" in the South. My suggestion would be make the name "Robertson", and then people who want to be mean and make fun of her shorten it to "Bob". Also, maybe not quite so much with "Bobbi" and "Bli" and "Lou". Maybe "Robert", "William", and "Louis"? They can still be shortened, but it gives a sense of somewhat more serious naming. (Eli is a good name, though. ). Maybe give her mother and father names, and their nicknames are "Ma" and "Pa"; I mean, I call my parents "Mom" and "Dad" still, so that's not a stretch by any means! Basically, just touch up the names and I think it's a good thing. Big families are real, and they can be fun! Family roots enrich the character. Basically, my advice isn't to discard the "space cowgirl" thing, just make it where her, her family, and their people take themselves more seriously, and it's those stuck-up Lor jerks who call them "hicks" and "Hilbis". Put the onus on others to make it a potential source of conflict and Complications (delicious, delicious Hero Points). Make sure she's got good reason to be proud of her people; they led peaceful, enjoyable lives, they could reach the stars, and they saved thousands and thousands of lives, despite the terrible mistakes of their neighbors!
  17. Corbin was just dusting his hands off when the crazy lady made her threat. His face tightened into a deep scowl as he moved next to Wander for a moment. "Gonna try to talk them down. Probably won't work. Jump in when you feel like it." Meaning "when the fighting starts or they try something shady". Cobalt Templar was airborne in a flash of blue, and quickly floated just a few feet away from the duo in the air. His arms were crossed over his chest, his gaze was as sharp as any of the swords he summoned, and his tone betrayed his tightly-leashed anger. "Counter-offer, Miss Elvira-Wannabe. You and the man in the tin can turn around, and we call things even. No muss, no fuss. No harm, no foul. And I ignore the fact you just threatened an entire block of civilians. Because my friend and I do not take well to such threats. And I'm really wanting to get home and read a good book." He shrugged his large metal-clad shoulders. "Your call."
  18. Interest: Player, Team Up if possible. Not sure with who. Setting: Time-wise, the 30s to early 50s. That feels like it would hit the sweet spot of the pulp-noir angle we're taking. Location-wise, either Freedom City, or if we want to be more "grounded", New York. Character: Sheet(s) will have to wait, but I'm thinking Gabriel as an FBI agent, an Honest Man in a dishonest town, with a silver tongue (aka increased Charisma) that can, occasionally, bust down a door (some sort of Damage). Other than that, skills, feats, and a nickel-plated pistol that just happens to use silver-plated bullets. If I end up using Cobalt Templar, he's likely getting up-aged into a pseudo-Indiana Jones sort. But that's less clear. Ending: A little openness isn't bad. After all, Casablanca had a rather open ending, all told.

  20. I have the perfect idea for Gabriel, since I'm guessing we're setting this in the 30s to early 50s. Gabriel (or perhaps just Carson) is a G-Man. After all, the FBI has often had a lot of Irish Catholics in it!
  21. I likely won't be around much/at all after about 10-11pmish tomorrow night, and I won't be around at all Saturday (probably not even for the evening), so I won't really be on much until Sunday (after earlier evening tomorrow).

  23. Sure. It's not his whole arsenal, just a thematic way to open the attack. He'll be disarmed.
  24. "Right, sounds like a plan." He knew better than to press the matter; there was the matter of professional pride, after all. He floated over to the power line pole, assessing its condition for a moment. He talked to himself a bit as he appraised it. "Hm hm hm....yeah, there we go." He moved to the middle of the metal pole and wrapped both arms around it; slowly, carefully, the blue-clad young man lifted himself, and the pole, into the air. When he'd gained some altitude, a small blue hand manifested and began grabbing the wires and gathering them together. Meanwhile, CT himself started slowly rotating the pole. The effect was like watching a giant fork slowly roll up a few strands of spaghetti. Once it was mostly wrapped up, Templar flew it over to the lot where the end had struck originally, laying it down diagonally so it didn't touch any other buildings or intrude on the road or sidewalk. The task completed, he floated up a bit and dusted his hands off. "Done!"

Gabriel breathed a couple quick sighs of relief as the horde of insane Grue were distracted by scratching at rocks (though also a bit at Gaian Knight, though thankfully it seemed his armor helped him, as well), and the organic Captain was whisked away to the plant-space-between (courtesy of Fleur). That left... He almost cursed as he saw the Android Captain still firing away at Fleur and the children. His face hardened as he knew what had to be done. He gripped his shining spear in both hands, and his voice rose above the din as he looked directly at the Android. "I'm sorry." And with a whisper of air and sound, he was flying across the room, spear held forward. For a moment, his aim faltered, but he corrected himself and held his weapon steady, right up until the moment the tip slammed into the friendly Captain's side. "I'm sorry, and we'll do what we can for you. And protect the children. I promise." His voice held compassion, but his expression was one of pure resolve.
