GM Post Suddenly, the feeling in the air shifted, and the ground beneath their feel shivered ever so slightly. A moment after that, they all heard a voice speaking up from behind them. It's surprisingly intelligent and cultured, compared to the barely-sane thugs from before. Yet there's an almost reptilian edge to it, one that doesn't settle quite right as it's heard. "Truly, I'm scared out of my mind. After all, I've never been threatened before, oh no. Especially not by people so much younger and less experienced." A man in a comparatively simple orange and black outfit stood there, a smirk on his unmasked face, his short-cropped hair shining oddly in the light. He seemed composed and well-mannered, but something in his eyes suggested someone who was utterly ruthless, and utterly insane. "I've fought your ring before, flame-wielder. Last time, fire beat earth. But last time, I didn't have a few centuries of experience on my side! Just because you've got friends doesn't mean you'll win this day, Willpower! The Blue Ring will be MINE!" Orange energy flared, and the rocks at his feet cracked a bit. It was clear battle was about to be joined.- 53 replies

While the others went about the business of getting food, especially pancakes, Corbin had worked himself to the point of invisibility and traveled to the river where the Bauble had fallen. Once there, he dove down into the murk, his ghostly eyes adjusting rapidly. He moved quickly, efficiently, keeping his attention spread out so he could spot the piece of crystal. He stayed in contact with Indira, both to reassure himself he wasn't suddenly lost in the depths of the water an abandoned soul cursed to linger forever alone, and to make sure he was on the right track. It wasn't incredibly precise, but he had a pretty good sense of direction down here. He was aware of Sharl following him, but tried not to focus on the fact too much. While he searched, he let his private thoughts ramble a bit. 'Bad enough I'm a bodiless ghost. Ugh, stop it Corbin this is every day for Kimber you insensitive oaf. Stop whining. Just find the Bauble, then give the girls a chance to enjoy themselves for a bit before we work out how to fix this. It won't kill me to stay like this for an hour or two. Heh, kill. It's sorta funny, because I'm a ghost.'

July 28th, 2012 Hughes Residence, North Bay, Freedom City It was just after 11 in the morning, and Corbin was actually pacing a bit nervously at his home's front door. His parents were out for the day, having one of their many "date days", and had told him to not make a mess but otherwise he was welcome to have friends over. He'd decided to take a mild risk and opt for another double-date. The last one had been....unique, but this time he figured he had a few things in favor. He and Quo-Dis were more comfortable and established, the whole setting was less formal, and Erin and Trevor were two of the most unflappable people he'd met. He doubted Quo-Dis could phase them terribly after being around Mark for several years. Still, it felt slightly odd having people over like this; this house was definitely bigger than what they'd had in St. Louis, though it was a bit more modest than some of the oldest ones in the area. More than that, he just generally didn't have people over; not because he didn't want to, but because it never seemed the "right time". 'Well, we're all high school graduates now, and we know each other pretty well. Besides, I've had Blake stay here a few nights here and there, and Quo-Dis certainly stays often enough...' His pacing eased, but he was still just a bit nervous.

Carson leaned back in his chair, clearly thinking on the matter for several long moments. He unconsciously grasped the rosary around his neck for a few moments. Finally, he leaned forward, a confident smile on his face, and nodded. "Yes. I agree to take on the responsibility and privilege of being of being a Reserve Member of the Freedom League. Is it safe to presume there will be a secure line of communication? One that could reach Sanctuary, if necessary?" He nodded his head to Fleur for a moment. "I don't know if Fleur informed you, but there is a place there I go to sometimes, as something of a "retreat". Mostly on the weekends right now. I'm hoping I can continue my tenure at the college; we can't have the next generation bereft of their education of the classics, hm?"

This isn't a 100% away thing, but a head's-up that next week I start my new job (yay!). Jobs eat time. More specifically, 1&1 Internet has me on a 3pm-11pm CST shift, so...I'll be on late mornings/early afternoon, and then for a few hours in the really early morning, at least M-F. I'll work to keep up in all my threads, but I'm likely going to restrain myself from starting a bunch of new stuff that first week or two until I have a better sense of everything.
-
Gabriel smiled a bit, not seeming totally shocked. "I wondered why I was getting something in the mail from the Freedom League. I can't say I expected this offer, but now that it's here, I'm not surprised." He leaned back a bit, giving the two League members present a slightly curious look. "Before I agree for sure, I just want to make sure I understand the basics of what being in the Freedom League Reserve entails. I trust the League, but it's a general policy of mine to understand what I'm agreeing to, out of respect for both myself, and the other party in the agreement."

Cobalt Templar blinked for a moment at Sharl's tone shift. Something was off, but with not-entirely-trustworthy duplicates mucking about, he wasn't willing to call the Tronik native out on it. Instead, he shrugged and looked at the others. "Sounds fine to me. It's late, but the less ruckus we cause the better." The Inquisitor frowned slightly, but nodded. He seemed perturbed slightly, but Hughes was the sort who was always slightly perturbed. "I'd rather not provoke unnecessary...drama...with the local authorities. I would imagine they shouldn't take that much time at any rate." At that, he lifted off the floor with a slight glow and started heading upstairs, his blue-clad half-giant counterpart not too far behind.

"If it's truly necessary for Penny to come along, she deserves to know why. If she must endure even a hint of the danger we'll be facing, she's got a right to know why. I get that she factors into this somehow, but I still don't entirely understand." Gabriel sighed, tapping one hand against his leg for a moment, his gaze unfocused. The tapping stopped, and his eyes locked onto the Captain's. "I realize this may be difficult for you, but it's my condition for this little ragtag group going anywhere but this room. I think she should know just what she'll be capable of, and how she's supposed to go about it. That will help us, as well, so we know how to approach the situation." He paused for a moment, then continued so that only the Captain could hear him, at least for the moment. His lips didn't move, though it seemed his voice echoed in the man's ear. "I understand the implication of her origin, and you don't have to go into detail about that for now. But the details on her present abilities is vital. Especially if she will have to be in contact with the Twins or close proximity." He gave a sympathetic smile to the Captain, Scraps, and Penny, and everyone heard him when he spoke again. "I really this is a very weighty topic. I'm just trying to make sure I understand everything about what we're about to do. It will help make sure everything goes more easily for all of us."

Carson had been slightly surprised by the mail, but he supposed that others in the community knew who he was, and the League was generally discrete about identities if the member so desired. Besides, the sheer honor of the invitation demanded he show up for the meeting. If nothing else, Sonya might be working, and she'd give him such an earful if he snubbed the invitation for anything that wasn't an immediate emergency. So he showed up quietly at Freedom Hall, dressed in an appropriate shirt and pants combo, eschewing a tie in the rather warm weather the city was still experiencing. He fiddled with his watch, checking the time once more before slipping past the crowd around the entrance. He spoke quietly for a moment with the front desk before heading upstairs. He arrived just as Tarrant said something about a cat-related incident that lacked dignity. "The reporters seem to enjoy getting the "scoop" on those stories. I'm just lucky none of them caught what happened with the hot dog stand that one time." Opting for a somewhat classical "job interview" approach, Carson walked over to Bowman and offered him a hand. "Pleasure to meet you, sir, and a real honor to be here today. Fleur de Joie, always a pleasure." He gave Fleur a deep nod and a winning smile before he stepped back and found a seat.

Aoiroo, no need to be such a Debbie Downer. TK's said he's got a set of varied plans. Let's see what happens, and enjoy the show/ride. ;)

"Fleur's right. It's not going to be safe for the children. The bees will keep them company." 'Heaven help someone trying to harm the children, for that matter. Some of those bees breathe fire!' "So unless you explain, openly and in detail, why we should endanger Penny or Scraps by bringing them with us, it seems wisest to place them in a safe location, while you accompany us on the search. I appreciate you've got...unique perspective...but I don't appreciate riddles, half-truths, and small pieces of a larger truth. If you still know something useful that you haven't told us yet, come out and say it." Gabriel appreciated a bit of melodrama in one's speech as much as the next person, but it was clear the Captain's tendency to use melodrama to disguise his lack of full disclosure was wearing thin. His tone wasn't angry, but it was firm and final.

Corbin had followed along quietly, concentrating on moving himself through daylight. Something that used to be of no consequence now constantly reminded him of his nature; he could feel the sun's rays preventing him from even trying to appear normal. So he strove to think about anything but that. He considered ways to approach the Bauble, how best to get it back to the group, and how they might harness it to put them all back in their proper condition. He'd waited nearby while Indira traced the Quantum Bauble. He took the time to take in any more tips Kimber had, as well as working cautiously to explore the limits of his powers. He glanced at Sharl and moved a bit closer. "How's your control holding up? It should be getting more automatic after a while. The Ring adapts itself to you, after a fashion; I imagine it will "reset" when this is done, though. Were you planning to go down with me when Indira found the Bauble? The water won't matter; the Ring doesn't care, it'll burn so long as you will it to."

"The Rings are tools. Nothing in the Blue Ring would stop me from flying off to some third world country, deciding I know better than everyone there because I'm totally awesome, and setting myself up as a tinpot dictator. Willpower can become overconfidence which becomes Pride. Someone picks up the ring who's already pretty greedy, the Orange Ring won't help matters. It's an unfortunate side effect of how they were made, it seems; they can...resonate...with these polar emotions. As for digging out the tunnels, that's not a bad idea. But probably one to save for later." Cobalt Templar turned toward Midnight, and couldn't help but wince. "Sorry again about the bike and Redbird getting hurt. Uh...I guess let me know if I can help or something. Anyways, as far as a bunch of guys...I'd wager not. I don't know exactly what every other Ring can do; heck, I don't think I've tapped all that my ring can do yet. But from what I gather, the Orange Ring more typically built static structures, or attacked large groups. So, giving copies of his powers out seems like an unusual thing. Maybe a ritual of some sort. When we fight the Real Deal, I'd watch out for him tossing out stuff that hits a large area, or putting himself behind walls and the like."- 53 replies

Corbin had done what he could to help the others with any injuries they had, though thankfully Erin was the only major issue. And she seemed to be in good hands. It hadn't taken long for him to settle down next to the neat pile of parts for Trevor's bike; Corbin had silently elected himself the watcher of that reminder of the fight. When Erin emerged, a box popped up around the pieces with nary a thought as he stood and walked over. It was plain to see on his now mask-less face that he'd been worried, but the worry was quickly replaced by joy at the sight of his healthy, decidedly not-dead team-mate. Erin and Trevor were close enough, and good enough at reading body language, to see Corbin had almost gone for a bear hug of happiness, but decided to refrain out of respect for the couple's inherently reserved nature. "Erin, so glad to see you're okay. We've all been waiting and worried. Ah, Trevor, I...I've got all the stuff still, over there in the box. I'll carry it on through. I can take it wherever you want me to, it's no trouble. Least I can do to help a friend." When Coyshur announced a portal was ready to take them home, he stepped back a bit and looked at the others. "I don't know about y'all, but I'm ready to go have Eve open my present for her, and have some cake. I'm starving!"

When Penelope was introduced, Gabriel made sure to give her a winning smile, though he let Fleur work her magic for introductions. When she had finished causing wonder with her mastery over plants, Gabriel crouched down and offered the girl a friendly handshake. "Hello Penelope. My name's Gabriel. I'm a friend of Fleur's. I live pretty close to Fleur. It's nice to meet you. It's up to your father, but I think once this mess is sorted out, all of you would we welcome where we live." He stood up, his expression drifting back to the serious as he addressed the Captain. "We actually have a few ideas and leads for where to look for the twins. So I'd say we first have the problem of how to interact with them without dire consequences, and second how to stop the larger consequences to this planet. Is there a way we could stay in contact with you while we look?" Suddenly, he snapped his fingers as he remembered something. "Scraps here mentioned seeing some odd-looking folks in ominous black outfits creeping around this area a while back. Do you have any insight what might have been going on there?"

While Cobalt Templar is not a traditional mage, his Ring is very much magical, and he's got some friends in the magical community. Honestly, "long-lost magical artifacts" sounds right up his alley! Especially if we have to dig to find one! ;)

"It's still near the pipe..." "Not any more. On 3, pull with me. 1, 2, 3!" With that, both Corbins hauled back on their ring arms, and a visible line of energy connected their constructs wrapped around the creature with their hands. With unnerving speed, the vaguely canine thing was hauled through the air with unusual grace. Despite the noose around its throat, it wasn't choked, merely held at the directional mercy of its captors. The hound landed right in the center of the group, held fast still by the efforts of the ring-slingers. "Gentlemen, if you would please take care of the creature of us." "We can do this just about all day, but we can't do much else while we're doing this."
-
For propriety's sake: Full-Round Action: Drag the critter over to the group.

A voice echoed from outside the room, the words carrying a heavy sense of gravitas. "Something has gone wrong, but not for Dr. Kirkstrom. No, it's for you." The steady sound of something metallic striking the floor came from the hall. It only took a couple of moments for the source to be revealed. Gabriel slowly strode into the room with deliberation and grace. His face held a faint expression of righteous anger, and his coat billowed around his body in a wind no one really heard or felt, but was apparently there nonetheless. The sound was the butt of his shining spear hitting the ground as he walked; he was using it as a walking staff, keeping a steady cadence despite the fact he did not need it in the slightest. He finally stopped a few paces away from Jameson and LaVigne, his eyes sliding back and forth between them, his gaze as cold and sharp as steel on a winter day. A slight shadow was cast over his armored head by the hood of his great white coat (which had finally settled at his sides), giving him a slightly otherworldly air. When he spoke, it was the quiet voice of an angel come down to proclaim judgement. "You've stolen information that's incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands, and proceeded to give it directly to those wrong hands. You will tell us every detail of what you've done and why, or you will regret it for the rest of your long natural lives. But most importantly, you will tell us who you sold this substance to and where we can find them."

Diplomancer Mode - On. Spending a Hero Point to activate Ultimate Intimidate, aimed at the 2 guards. Should leave me with 3 Hero Points. EDIT: Oh, right, that's a 60 on the Inimidate. Why? Because these guys are helping push mutagenic drugs onto the street, that's why.

Yeah, I'd like to reroll the grapple. Hero Point Reroll: 42

"We're going to make sure it's not a threat to the pipe." "Is this a good idea?" "You didn't give a better one, and there's no time. Now, let's go!" With that, both Corbins lifted their right arms, supporting them with their left; they unconsciously adopted the same wide stance to support themselves as they worked. From the Inquisitor's ring, golden, hard-edged light spilled forth, racing toward the creature as it shaped itself into a simple lasso. Templar's energy was a bit more rounded, and a bit fuzzier with the tongues of holy flame licking off the giant hand construct that reached forward. Templar's hand reached the beast a moment before the Inquisitor's lasso. The hand of fire latched onto the torso of the beast, while the lasso of light made itself into a noose (though not a choking one) that went around the unholy thing's neck. Both young men pulled back at the same time, hoping to drag the creature all the way to to middle of their little gathering, and then hold it there.

Right, the Inquisitor goes first. Free Action: Switch to Move Object 10. Standard Action: Ranged attack vs dog. 18 hits. He'll be Combining with CT's attack. CT next. Free Action: HP to Stunt Move Object 12 on his main Array. Standard Action: Ranged Attack vs dog. 14 does hit, per AA. CT's is the primary, so, if I understand this right, their Combined TK attack is Move Object 14. Going with CT's attack bonus. Total Grapple Bonus of 26. Grapple Check: 35 EDIT: If possible, both Corbins will work together to drag the thing back to the group, basically putting it right in the middle.

--Yeah, I hear you, Trevor.-- Cobalt Templar's mental voice was stiff, but he was also clearly dropping the argument. He knew his friend was incredibly stressed right now. He just hated the thought of losing a friend, especially if he thought he had the power to save them. That's why he took a single step forward when the healers came to take Wander away. "Coyshur, if you know of us, you know the nature of my power. If you need the aid of my flame to help heal Wander, ask me. If not..." He paused only for a moment. "Just let me know where I can wait, I guess."
