Earth Victoriana: Deliver Us From Evil (IC)
KnightDisciple replied to Aoiroo's topic in The Realms Beyond
"Gabriel. You may call me Gabriel." Said the man wearing shining armor forged in one of the suburbs of Heaven, gifted powers by an Archangel, and wearing a white leather coat with holy symbols on it. "I wear a mask to protect others even more than myself. Where I come from, it's a necessity. Here, I felt it prudent, as travel between these dimensions seems to be...rather easy, really." He looked over the various records, frowning more and more as he continued to take it all in. "Someone is planning something. A...Lord help me, but it seems like it might be a ritual. Look, here. Candles, chalk, measuring instruments, livestock. Plenty more. Individually, they're at most mildly odd. But the timing, with the more "perishable" items coming in successively later, and the small number of ordering individuals, makes it suspicious. I just don't what they want to do with it all..." -
"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind; just because one side did something, doesn't mean it's right for the other side. As for the Revolution: I would have stopped the Americans from killing unarmed men and women with no means to fight back. I would not have defended their position of power, but I would have preserved their lives." With a great effort, he turned away from the window. "Which is what I'm going to do now. I will gather every non-combatant in this castle, and I will keep them from harm. If the king chooses to fight alongside his men, I will not defend him. But if he decides to abide by my protection, I will give it...Inasmuch as I will not let an unarmed person be killed. Maybe we can set an example for these people." With that, Cobalt Templar began marching to the door, intent on enacting his plan as quickly as possible.

Corbin turned and looked at Koshiro, frustration and...sadness?...evident in his eyes. "So instead we stand by, let the chimps overrun the castle, slaughter every gorilla here, including the noncombatants? Assuming they don't do worse to every female gorilla they find? And possibly some of the more loyal chimps, or any orangs and others here? What about the plane crew? And how do you know this rebellion won't be crushed anyways? These things just end up breeding decades of filthy, deadly war; where violence doesn't kill people, starvation, disease, and maybe even plain old panic will." He ran a hand through his suddenly exposed hair, having unconsciously disappeared his helmet. "I mean, yes, the monarchy's not a very good government system, and it opresses the chimps. But until tonight, there was a modicum of social stability. That's gone. There's nothing good happening tonight, guys. I just...we're heroes, dampnare it! We're supposed to keep people from dying!" He seemed genuinely convinced of the horrible implication of the night, as well as of the responsibility of the teens in doing...something.

Earth Victoriana: Deliver Us From Evil (IC)

Gabriel noticed Carrie's move to the door, and gave her a piercing look. His lips didn't move, but in her ears, she heard his voice whisper. "^No. Not yet.^" He turned to face the chancellor, his face falling into a friendly, but serious, expression. "We have no proof of any party being involved. Which is part of my suspicion. Whoever this is seems to be working not to leave a trail. My theory about a third party is because Britain has nothing to gain by doing this, and the Church at large doesn't seem like it would use such skullduggery. Ergo, some other group. And despite not filing the initial reports, you still see them, yes? Have you noticed anything odd, be it unusual things written down, or an unusual absence of anything? As for the Inquisition, I'm suggesting nothing. I'm not sure I have enough data yet to suggest something." He fought to hold the grimace off his face. 'The Inquisition was one of our greatest mistakes in history; a world where they still exist does not sit entirely well with me.' -

Gabriel smiled and nodded his head at the terms the guards put forth. "That's entirely reasonable, gentlemen. Thank you for your patience and willingness to assist us." He quietly followed them to the study of this chancellor, observing what he could as they went. When they arrived, he took in the room with a neutral eye, trying to discern what he could before he began speaking with the man. When the chancellor addressed them, he turned his 100-watt smile on "full blast". "I'm honored your meeting with us sir. I promise we'll try not to waste your time." His face grew sober as he continued. "Yes, we strongly suspect something's going on. The ones in this particular city aren't getting officially reported. Likely due partly to fear on the part of the average citizen, and partly due to the potential nature of the apparent targets. That is to say, some seemed to think of them as "undesirables". My own concern is with potential motives. There are some factors that could point to either the British...or the Holy Church." Gabriel shook his head. "I don't believe it's either. I am of a mind that some third party is behind this, attempting to cloud the issue by leaving as little evidence as possible, and then preying upon existing suspicions." -
"Not all villains are totally crazy. Those are the ones who'd run a school like that. And they're sometimes more dangerous than the crazy ones...But really, it's because they want backup. Makes sense, in a strictly pragmatic sense." He shrugged; Headmaster Summers said it probably wasn't a villain school, so Corbin wasn't going to stress about the idea too much. "Think of "Unspeakable One" as a nickname; its real name would probably drive us insane. Also, its nature would drive us insane; basically, it's a critter that's antithetical to mortal life, and so trying to bring its attention to us, often via speaking something, is seen as very bad. And if it is haunted, I'll be glad to have a ghost on my side." He gave Kimber a friendly smile, trying to support his teammate's good cheer, while hopefully not depressing and boring her with his explanations.

Corbin had known something was wrong when the program stopped at the point it did; when he heard the screaming, he knew something was verywrong. In an instant, he was standing in his full regalia, looking out the window, teeth clenched in frustration. Several words were muttered under his breath; most were in Latin, a few in Greek, and one in Hebrew. 'No, blast it! This isn't the way! Injustice or no, slaughter like this CAN'T be right! There should be another way! People shouldn't die like this!' He looked to his two team-mates, a fire literally blazing from his eyes as he started to lift into the air. "We have to stop this! I don't care if they've got a beef with the king, killing like this won't help anything!" Unless the others acted quickly, Corbin was likely to dash out the window and intervene in the fight!
-
CT turned to face Kimber, though he made sure the others could hear (if they cared about listening), and his gaze went far-off as he recited what facts he knew. "Dunwich, Massachusetts saw somewhere around a half-century of "odd occurrences". Almost all of it was strange, still officially unexplained lights in the sky over the town. Too far south for the Northern Lights, especially over such a stretch of time. Everything seemed to go back to "normal" in 1929...but only after the destruction of a farmhouse, the death of two families, and the loss of a fair bit of livestock. Official records indicate the families fell prey to an encroachment of coyotes. There's not much official word on why the house exploded. But, to be honest, it all seems a bit off to say it's just coyotes. Kid Cthulu has stated he suspects the Unspeakable One was somehow involved, though obviously he was not there to witness it. I haven't yet been able to ask other sources, ones that might have been around in '29. Of course, the likes of the Master Mage would probably just clam up and not talk about it anyways. So, it's just speculation and coincidence. Beyond the name connection, and the events of today, there's nothing to suggest actual connection." Then the Headmaster took charge of the situation. When he asked for volunteers, Cobalt Templar was the first to step forward. "I would be more than happy to assist you on your endeavor, sir."

Corbin nodded noncommittally. He was still trying to make sure he covered for his teammate, though. Then again, he wasn't settling well with this place anyways. 'Definitely makes all those fantasy medieval books less appealing...but really, can we do anything? The whole world is set in this system; we can't change it overnight. Can't try to impose our will on it. We try to make too much happen too soon, and things will get bloody.' He shook his head. "I think I somewhat understand. It's just that...well, besides the very obvious, our world is still different than yours. For what it's worth, I wish both you and Bonda as much success as you can gain. The historian in me is a bit curious about the macaques, but that's for another day... Is there anything we should know before we go before the king? Things we really should, or should not, do?"

Earth Victoriana: Deliver Us From Evil (IC)
KnightDisciple replied to Aoiroo's topic in The Realms Beyond
Gabriel gave the guards a small, disarming smile as he stepped up, before his face grew serious. He would need to approach this with the utmost of care. "Gentlemen, I realize the hour is unusual for a visit to this most holy of places, and that we certainly did not have an appointment, reservation, notice, or anything of that sort prepared. Nevertheless, if it is within your power at all to grant, I beg you let us enter this place. We have heard of the strange goings-on here in this holy city. We fear there is something deeper at work. Something sinister. I do not know about you gentlemen, but the very thought of some dark force working a plan in this place sickens me to the core. It is with conviction and a heavy heart I come here. I hope that by speaking with the wise men inside, I may perhaps find a few clues as to what is going on. Investigating such a thing is much like putting together a puzzle, you see, and I still lack many pieces, despite God's grace in giving me what I have currently. I hope to make a minimum of disturbance, and will certainly not seek to agitate any occupants for agitation's sake, though I make no promises that the dire things I speak of may not agitate those inside. So again, good sirs, I beg of you the boon of allowing the two of us entry into this grand temple, that we may try to achieve some small measure of that holy concept known as justice." Putting aside the rather dazzling torrent of words he'd just poured out, Carrie might note that Gabriel had been very careful not to lie about anything, and not to demand anything of the guards. It seemed he hoped honey would do better than vinegar today... -
I spend a Hero Point for Ultimate Diplomacy. That's an auto-20. Which means he gets a 47 to gently, politely talk the guards into letting him into the Vatican.

As Citizen spoke, his large, blue-clad team-mate frowned and started to pace, clasping his hands behind his back. He continued this motion for several moments before finally speaking up, still pacing. "This whole thing smells of serious shenanigans. We've got a kid going to a prep school who ends up turning into a giant flesh-beast. A school in a town named Dunwich. It's not the same one that had the incident in '29, but..." He turned to the others, giving a slight shrug. "I'm not one to believe in coincidences. Considering Kid Cthulu thinks the Unspeakable One was somehow involved in that affair, and we've now got another town with, conveniently, the same name, with a "prep school" run by a shape-shifting former heroine, with at least one graduate turning into a giant monster, after learning how to "unlock his true self". If nothing else, this sounds very suspicious. Even dropping everything else, I'd say we should try looking into that place." Cobalt Templar looked at his teammates, his next words spoken sincerely. "What do you guys think?"

Why is college so expensive? Libraries!
KnightDisciple replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Off-Panel
That makes sense, and is roughly what I was thinking might be the case. Still, wowzer. -
Crunch looks solid, though I'm not a total number-cruncher. I am having trouble parsing the various powers in your notes, though. Maybe make the power name underlined, to delineate them more easily? Is the "limited to human tissue" thing more to say she can't spontaneously grow an exoskeleton, or wings, or claws? I mean, it's not typical for humans to sprout 4 extra arms. I guess I'm just trying to grasp what your overall "thematic limits" are shooting for. Are you sure it's good that you're portraying her as both "Ignorant" and as a "Socialist Idealist"? I mean, my opinions of that topic aside, the character sheet seems to be harping that particular note pretty hard, that' she's a socialist and likes "fairness" and such. One wonders how she'd react to a.)the fact that Sweden still has nobility, including a king, even if they're basically ceremonial, and b.) to her fellow Swedish character, Baron Magnus Vilhelm Katastrof. Definitely an interesting idea though, especially the whole "semi-artificial human" angle.

Why is college so expensive? Libraries!
KnightDisciple replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Off-Panel
Okay, you work in a school library, maybe you can better sum this up for me. What does paying those huge amounts of money get the university? Surely more than a handful of real books... :?: -
It was almost a minute before Cobalt Templar decided to slowly lower himself to the ground, his expression unreadable. He looked at the rest of the team, nodding. "Good work, everyone. And you're right, Citizen; I don't think it was anything the villains did. It's like he had this affliction already, and it just chose this moment to "flare up". Ghost Girl's also right; we shouldn't assume it's actually his fault. Hopefully the doctors can help figure this out." He then floated over to Papercut, concern on his face. He spoke in a softer tone, inclining his head toward the other student's wound. "You going to be okay? I'm sure the paramedics can get you squared away, but we can rustle up someone with more "oomph" if we need to."

Cobalt Templar saw Koshiro's glare, but chose not to react. This wasn't the time or place. Corbin's face was quite serious by the time they arrived at the castle's courtyard; it was clear this place didn't sit entirely well with him. Oh, sure, compared to Earth EZ-01, this was practically Candyland, but that really wasn't saying much considering his short time there. He nodded as the flight officers explained the situation. "How badly busted is the plane? If it's in few enough pieces, I could probably toss it all together and haul it myself. Worst case, Papercut helps out to keep the whole mess together." He turned to regard the gorilla knight. "I appreciate the offer, but unless it's in a whole lot of pieces, I ought to be able to lug it on my own. I can typically lift about 10% more than what one of those things weighs. So the issue is pieces and how cumbersome it is to move about. And try not to be too hard on your squire there. This is all pretty new, and I think if a group of your people suddenly arrived in my world for similar reasons, I'd be rather shocked." His tone was mild even as he saw Koshiro wandering away to talk to the chimp in the stocks, an action CT didn't really mind at all. He hoped the knight would stay busy talking with him. "Anyways, thank you again for your hospitality. Where are we going now, if I may ask?" He started to follow the knight, but at a nice, sedate pace.

Earth Victoriana: Deliver Us From Evil (IC)
KnightDisciple replied to Aoiroo's topic in The Realms Beyond
"The key with this sort of thing is not to lie so much as it is to ask questions that let the other person naturally lead you to the truth. Besides. If nothing else, we may get some names, names that may not be written down so that things are more secure. I do think we can get the answers, yes. And fair enough about not sleeping here, though it will make things a bit more difficult..." Gabriel looked around for a moment, nodded, and purposefully started walking toward the front entrance of the main building of the Vatican, the residence of the Pope and its attached church and so forth. He just hoped he was ready for what he might encounter... -
Cool. So if we hope the plane's in only a few pieces, CT can just carry it himself with tonnage to spare.
-
Two questions. 1.)How heavy is one of those Pegasus planes? 2.)Would CT know how heavy one is?
-
Cobalt Templar gave a fierce smile as Young Freedom took down Orion and harried the giant monster in front of them. But the battle wasn't over yet. "Yes! Keep it up everyone! We've got this guy, just keep the pressure on him!" Templar was all but standing on the creature, somewhere near the head-like section of its body. His whole form practically glowed, but his fists weren't even visible beneath the crackling, swirling corona of energy around them. The lightning effect had mostly faded, and now he struck out at the huge monster with what seemed to be two small pieces of a blue star. Their magical fire burned bright, and perhaps the sanctified energies worked a bit better against a brute like this. His left hook struck true, landing a solid blow. His right uppercut fumbled a bit, but he recovered and turned it into a backhanded blow with his whole forearm. "Come on! Look at me you great big brute! Look at the shiny blue guy!"

As this dude's still swinging, and I've taken to understand we're nowhere near the end of the thread, I'm going to go all-out in trying to take down the giant tentacle monster. He should be next to the monster, so no need for a Move Action Free Action: Spend an HP to avoid Fatigue from my Surge. Free Action: All-Out-Attack 5: Attack 16, Defense 1 Power Attack 5: Attack 11, DC 31 Standard Action: Strike the Bastion-thulu! 19 hits. DC 31 Toughness Save. Free Action: Surge! Get another Standard Action! Standard Action: More Lightning-fire punches! 13 misses though. But you know what? Hero Point Reroll: 29 definitely hits. DC 31 Toughness Save. Current HP count: 1. After next round, will likely be 0. 8-)
