Faith Protects, Kevlar Helps (IC)

Carson was indeed amazed at the promised speed, but he supposed this place was as much metaphor as it was anything. Time likely held much less meaning here. "Just a man trying to be godly, sir. Nothing more." The red-headed man followed his friend, casting his gaze around this place, taking it all in. "Hm. Well, I suppose that answers questions about angels having gender and such. I'm glad to hear he was good; I'm sure his...work...does keep him busy. I can believe he loves children; I think most all people with a good heart have at least a soft spot for them, though not all of us are called to deal with large numbers for regular periods of time." He shrugged, before a curious look crossed his face. "If you don't mind my asking, who is your mother? Would I know her from history, or just someone your father fell in love with?" -
Corbin relaxed a bit as the creature was subdued by Eve's ministrations. Once it had turned back into Becky, who promptly went unconscious, he tossed his weapon to the side, where it promptly disappeared in a flash of flame. He walked over and knelt next to Eve, laying one large hand on her shoulder, even as his cape and headgear faded. He didn't speak, but his thoughts were clear to her. -I'm sorry. Hopefully True North can help her. I...yeah. Let me know what you need.- Awkwardly, he stood, walking over to the others. He first turned to Indira, giving her a nod and an encouraging smile. "Good work, Indira. You did well." He then gave Kimber his attention, offering her his hand to shake. "Hello Kimber. I'm Corbin, but I go by Cobalt Templar when I'm working as a hero. It's nice to meet you. Sorry for barging in earlier, I was...agitated. And Sharl's right. Our school's Headmaster asked us to com here and bring you to our school. That is, assuming you're aware of this, and wish to come." After those pleasantries were exchanged, he turned to Sharl, a frown on his face. His earlier irritation had faded, but it was clear he still wasn't happy with the electronic youth. "Sharl, you and I are going to have a talk once we're back at the hotel." It was clear he wasn't making a request.

Corbin nodded as Crow explained his reasoning. "That makes sense, then. Just didn't want you to get locked out of your own practice session. Because you're right, life is rarely convenient when you're a hero. Trust me." He turned to shake his head in amusement at Etain's suggestion. "I could always referee the match." At John's words, he turned to the console next to him and adjusted a few items, before triggering the radio system. "Test test. Yes, seems to be working." He regarded the group of underclassmen. These...Irregulars. "Are all of you ready?"

Carson sighed in relief as they reached the stall. While he wasn't a complainer, these iron bars weren't exactly light. He found a clear spot in the stall and gently set the metal down, wiping a bit of sweat off his forehead. He offered the man in red a smile and a respectful nod of his head. "It's an honor to meet you, sir. As for why I'm here...Well, Heyzel brought me to...this place..." He gestured with his arms, indicating the market and the world beyond. "Which, let me tell you, is something else for sure. Anyways. We came here so I could acquire some gear to better help me defend the innocent, fight evil, and so on. We got these iron bars a bit back, and he thinks they'll make a great breastplate. I'm not really sure what to do myself, so I'd appreciate any help you can give." Suddenly, something clicked and he turned to face Heyzel. "Wait, Azrael? Your dad is the Angel of Death?" Carson's eyes were wide. "Wow. Talk about children of celebrities...Sorry." He shakes his head, an embarassed blush on his face as he looks at both men. "Shall we get on with it, sir?" -
KnightDisciple's Character Scratchpad
KnightDisciple replied to KnightDisciple's topic in Character Building
So, first, the NPC. I'll do like Thoughtspeed, and list some stuff out, but this is more general. -Female -Specifically, this is basically intended as "Gabriel's girlfriend"; she's going to be Catholic like him, though not Irish; I'm considering possibly of Oriental descent, but maybe just Mediterranean. Maybe I'll roll a dice! -I'm not sure what group fits, but I basically want her in some sort of super-medic group. Like, the paramedic/disaster relief version of AEGIS or something. Sorta like the Hospitallers in Northern Ireland. -Connected to that, I'm thinking of making her a Healer. So, Healing, with various add-ons. -Beyond that, she'd be a fit, average human (physicals in the 14 range or so, mentals 12-16). Not sure if I want her to have any other powers at all. Not sure what feats and skills would totally fit here... That's what I've got so far. Suggestions welcome! -
"Shiny's just sort of a side effect. And yeah, it works on bullets, though I haven't gone jumping in front of machine guns yet. As for slowing you down...you'd be surprised." He shifted a bit, and if Bombshell looked, she'd see that the metal itself actually flexed as he moved. He shot her a friendly smile as he spoke. "It's not exactly standard-issue steel or anything. And I bet you could get some in glossy black." His smile faded as he considered her words. "Yeah, that makes sense. I've seen folks use old houses or sheds to store drugs, but never really a warehouse. Unless it was a full-blown 'hideout' first and foremost. This place isn't that. Plus, weapons crates would explain what you say downstairs. This area's not very active, and I don't patrol here often. I'm sure they know both those facts." He gave a half-hearted smirk. "Guess I got lucky tonight."

Right, so, while the other thread is for my next PC, Thoughtspeed, this thread is for any various ideas that come to me. Offhand, I'll likely be sketching out my totally new NPC, as well as a rebuild for Ultiteen/Quo-Dis (because she shouldn't be too far behind her boyfriend in PL, yo!). I'll probably use this post to organize links to "final drafts" and such.

Corbin shrugged. "No harm no foul, Jeena. I suppose I should be flattered, but I mostly just don't mind. I mean, you didn't do anything really untoward. Trust me. I've had girls throw themselves at me. What you did? That was just you trying to get a read on me. And for what it's worth, I'm sorry if me being unavailable is...distressing? Whatever word fits. I mean...crap. You know what, I'll just leave it there. I hope we can end up friends, at least." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "I suppose I can understand. Trust me when I say you need to control the anger. Guys like us...that's just how it is. One other piece of advice: Don't get too territorial if you guys haven't been dating long. Gwen's a friendly girl by nature. She's going to have guys who are friends. Nothing wrong with making it clear you and she are going out. But until and unless you've really established yourselves, it might scare her off." He shrugged. "Just thinking out loud, though. I don't know how well you could model the relationship Quo-Dis and I have to most people. She's...well, she's one-of-a-kind, for sure." He gave a goofy smile at that statement before wandering back for food... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Corbin gave Zach an unreadable look. "You notice I chastised you both. There's a reason for that, Zach. And yeah, working on the windows is probably a good idea." Corbin went back to finishing his pizza, before tossing his plate in the handy trash bin, wiping his hands on a napkin, and walking over to Cole with a friendly smile on his face. "Hey there. I'm Corbin Hughes.Sorry I missed you earlier. Been a bit...hectic...today. Feel free to pitch in when we all get back to it, but thankfully we're not strapped for help. Still, nice of you to drop by."

Sorry Highwind, we'd already reached my comfort limit. I'm still working on some of the details, folks. Thread name suggestions would be helpful, I'm terrible with them. We're going with the techno-divine-magical Matrix-heaven plot.

Shoot Cyroa, I didn't mean to ignore you! There are so many characters I've lost track a bit... :?

This particular charity event had already had a lot of buzz around it. There were a fair number of musical talents lined up, including some big name bands. But right near the beginning of the night's entertainment, there was a block set aside for "Mystery Guest". That slot, all by itself, had generated almost as much buzz as all the other artists. Who could it be, after all? Why the mystery? Tonight, they got their answer, but not in a way any of them expected. As the various rich and famous were piling out of luxurious limousines and walking into the club, a few patrons pointed upwards and noted a "white speck" in the sky. Within moments, it was clear it was someone flying about in a bright costume. A minute after that, and the angelic-themed hero Gabriel was executing a 9-point landing that barely ruffled any nearby hair, though everyone close enough had to shake their head to clear the ringing out. The hero in white and silver looked around him and gave a dashing smile. "Good evening! I'm glad everyone seems to be making it here just fine. Is everyone excited for the show tonight? I know I am! And as much as I wanted to just sit back and take in the music, I couldn't help but decide to contribute my own humble talents to the proceedings. So everyone, hope you're here to have a good time. But remember, stay safe and responsible!" With a final smile and wave, the armored form of Gabriel all but glided into the club, smiling and shaking hands along the way.

A note on the post I'm working on for IC: If for some reason a social-skills roll would be needed, just assume Gabriel does his Skill Master auto-35 with Diplomacy/Bluff/Intimidate (as necessary). 8-)

Corbin narrowed his eyes as he evaluated the creature. He moved in, determined by not wrathful; this girl-turned-creature needed to be stopped, but she also needed to be helped. As the staff in his hands whirled about, Corbin called out to the young girl inside the beast. Unfortunately, his first words were, for some reason, in Hebrew. "הפסק להי×בק!" Suddenly, he unleashed a series of quick blows against the creature's form, leaving himself somewhat open to attack, but obviously caring little for this fact. "Come on, Becky! Don't make us keep fighting you!"

No need to move up, so... Free Action: All-Out Attack 5: Attack Bonus now 16, Defense now 1 Power Attack 5: Attack Bonus now 11, Toughness Save DC now 31 Standard Action: Attack the Wendigo with 3-section-staff. 16 isn't enough. Hero Point for reroll. 29 is much better. DC 31 Toughness Save.

Corbin's own stomach rumbled a bit, so he went to procure some pizza. He repressed the urge to sigh when he realized Zach had simply gone to eat, rather than heading over to the greenhouse. 'Should have expected it. I'm not really an authority figure in his eyes. Guess I'll just keep my eyes open for trouble. Hm.' He looked toward Brian with a frown. He at least seemd to realize he'd made a mistake. Corbin took a couple more large bites, finishing off this slice, before grabbing a piece of cheese pizza and a piece of pepperoni, putting them on a plate, and walking over to Brian as he worked. He offered the other teen the plate. "Here. Probably bad to go too long without eating when you have to burn that energy yourself, rather than using a nifty shortcut like me." His tone wasn't quite friendly, but it wasn't chastising, either. "Sorry I bellowed. Not sorry I intervened, but sorry I bellowed. For what it's worth, I understand, at least a bit, that you'd get upset right then. Just chalk it up as something to avoid for the future, hm?" Once the other teen had taken his pizza, Corbin would walk back to get himself another plate. He was still hungry. He arrived just as Zach was dropping his pizza and chugging. He let a smirk cross his face. "Don't let the pizza get the better of you, Zach. You're higher on the food chain."
-
Corbin shook his head with a smile as the other teens discussed who would "roll the dice", and as Brian skidded in with an irritated look on his face. When the white-and-red clad teenage hero met the ring-user's gaze, there was no accusation or anything of the sort, only calm evaluation. Finally, he spoke up. "Morgan. A question. When that button is pressed, does the scenario begin immediately? Or do you all have a chance to get down into the Room proper first?" A smile was threatening to show on his face. "Because it would be rather awkward if you started the scenario and weren't in the room." He glanced at Brian's fuming form. "Perhaps you and Brian can have your spar after the training session proper?"

Recruiting: Dimensional anomolies and monster hunting

I'd be up for including Gabriel. -
Corbin raised an eyebrow at Crowe's overly formal statement and tone, but didn't interrupt the other boy. He was silent for over a minute after the rune-user finished. "And I let my temper take hold. Suffice to say, it's not exactly a day for many of us to be proud of. Still, I can think of one major way you can repay that debt: Try to think before you speak. I'm not interested in anything fancy, Morgan. I don't feel like having any sort of honor-slave or the like. Improve yourself, and we're even." The large youth was entirely serious as he looked at the underclassman. "With that, said, it sounds like you lot have plans to make for this little showing."
-
Gabriel smirked at the comment, though he shook his head a bit. 'Not a bad try there, Bombshell, but not nearly good enough to phase me...' "I'll just go with "Bombshell" or "miss", then. Call it my compromise of politeness. Miss." A mischievous grin was on his face now as he moved a bit closer and crouched down to examine what she was indicating. "The outfit gets the job done. Besides, while avoiding being shot is nice, it happens sometimes. I've learned that some good metal between you and the bad guys doesn't hurt you." He tapped on the breastplate with his mailed left hand. "This would have been handy...goodness, I guess it was almost a year ago now some super-ghouls nearly gutted me...Anyways." He shook his head, as if to chase away memories. "I'll trust your judgement about the overall look. You're right, too. This place does look cleaner than you'd think. But the real question is: Are they stealing things, or selling things? I haven't dealt with quite as many drug and weapons dealers in the last couple of months, but those sorts never entirely go away. It's enough to make me want to get a bit rougher, those sorts selling drugs and guns to 14-year-old kids..." His eyes cloud with anger for a moment, and it's clear this sort of thing is a sore spot for him.

"A milk run won't give us a very good test of your abilities, now will it?" Corbin Hughes, aka Cobalt Templar, was leaning against the doorframe (and taking up most of the door's space while he was at it) in casual clothes. He eyed the three teenagers in front of him with a mildly amused smile. "That's why you're here, right? Proving you guys are a team, and one that can go out and work in the field." He straightened up and walked further into the room, leaning past Morgan to glance at the control panel, before giving the other boy his space. "Just a tip: Even I would be utterly destroyed if I tried to solo Wander's training simulation. Consider it a goal for any and all of us to attain. Now." He settled into a nearby seat and looked at Morgan expectantly. "What exactly did you have in mind for today, Mr. Crowe?"

Murder on the Victorian Express (IC)
KnightDisciple replied to Supercape's topic in The Realms Beyond
GM/NPC Fenris stood there impassively as Carrie knocked Ramstein down. Taking a moment to calculate his shot, as well as to put a bit of extra juice into his Particle Projection Cannon, he raised his right arm and fired a bolt of bright lightning at the prone man. "Bleiben Sie auf Ihrem hinter sich." Fenris just stood there, looking menacing. "In other words, stay down." Energy continued to crackle around the barrel of his weapon. -
I think Fenris will go for the classic "Ranged Taser" approach. Free Action: All Out Attack 2: Attack goes to 10, Defense to 3 Power Attack 2: Attack is 8, DC is 25 Standard Action: Ranged Attack! Hopefully 20 hits. If it doesn't, I'll burn an HP for reroll, perhaps.

"THAT'S ENOUGH!!!" The voice bellowed from seemingly nowhere, and suddenly, there was a miniature mountain of blue metallic armor between the two teens. When they looked up, it became obvious it was Corbin, clad in his costume (minus cape, mask, and helmet), and he was clearly angry. He held a hand in front of each of the teens as he spoke next, his voice rumbling out. "Both of you stand. The γÎεννα. DOWN." He turned his attention to Brian first. "Brian, you need to calm down. I was just over at the drink table. Zach didn't do anything. Stop and think about it. Or if he did, it clearly wasn't intentional. But Gwen was the one who wrapped vines around him. So there's likely equal shares of "blame", or as much as you can blame anyone when we're all still working on developing our powers." Before Brian could speak, he was facing Corbin's hand, and Corbin was looking Zach in the eye. "Zach, yes? You need to back down. You're both showboating. Get off your bloody high horse for a second. Brian was correct to "overreact". It's better to take her to the nurse and her not need it, than for us to brush it off. Stop and think; we're all here because our bodies aren't quite human norm in some way or another." He stopped and tilted his head to the side. "Or we've got nifty toys that let us simulate that...anyways. The point is, it's better to be safe than sorry. So back off on that. And there's no need for you to take this-" He nabbed the water bottle from the younger boy's hand. "-to Gwen. Since you're not going to the nurse's office." He lowered his hands and stepped back from the two boys. "I'm not going to make you two shake hands. But here's the deal; you two get over there and get back to working on the greenhouse, or I go to the Headmaster. Possibly dragging both of you by the scruff of your necks." Without looking, he called over to the teleporting girlfriend of Morgan. "Vicky, go check on Morgan and Gwen, then let us know where things stand. Everyone else, take 5 and get some liquids, then we're back to work. We're not leaving this job half-done." His tone was one of command, rather than request. Mostly because the large senior feared what might happen if someone didn't take charge.
