  1. Sounds like a job for Corbin once I get home and can type up the post properly.
  2. He stood there for several moments, silently considering her words. 'Bombshell, Bombshell...Ahah! Yes, I got it now. Hm. Interesting.' Finally, Gabriel spoke again, his tone and posture relaxing slightly. "I've heard of you, Bombshell. Good and bad. But all things considered, I'll trust you're here to do the right thing. It wouldn't be fair if I didn't give you a chance, all things being equal. Plus, I've worked with your...romantic interest, Scarab. We fought trolls and evil sorcerers in some strange fantasy dimension. Never did get a clear picture of what exactly the bloody place was, but eh." He smirked a bit. "Have to say, English humor still holds the same dry irony it always has. After all, I have more color than you, when all is said and done, Ms. Dress In All Black." He uncrossed his arms and moved a bit closer, peering at the drawer on the floor. "While I'm not terribly territorial, I do try to keep an eye on Southside. I haven't heard any rumors of bigger gang activity or the like of late, despite trying to keep my ear to the ground on such things. Are you tracking something in particular, or is this just general reconnaissance? That said, "this generation" does just fine, ma'am. "
  3. Posting this here mostly for my own sake. Using Well-Informed and Skill Mastery for instant Auto-35 Gather Information check. Per Alderwitch in chat: I'll compress that a bit, but that gets a good overview for what Gabriel will know. EDIT: Just in case, here's Gabriel's rep chart.
  4. For what it's worth, I'd say Gabriel basically just used his Drain Toughness on the window, then a very brief Blast to turn it into very fine pieces. It's a fairly abandoned warehouse, and this is an upper-story window. Also, message that he's not someone to be taken lightly, though he's obviously not trying to play grim-and-gritty cowl or anything.
  5. Gabriel's face shifted into a frown as Bombshell spoke. Her response was flippant, to say nothing of her blatant attempt to distract him with her "wiles". Still, she wasn't being threatening in any way, so he wasn't willing to use any force. 'Joy. An uppity Englishwoman who likes sneaking into buildings. Just what I needed on my patrol night. And here I thought it was going to be a quiet night.' With a sigh, he pushed on the window for a moment. When it didn't budge, he glanced around, before sighing again. The hero in silver and white laid both hands on the glass pane, which vibrated in place for a moment before all but disintegrating, the tiny particles of debris falling to the floor. He floated himself through the clean opening, settling to the floor of the room with his arms once more crossed over his chest. He stayed well back from the femme fatale, but still made no hostile moves. "Why are you going through their records? Unless you are, in fact, part of the police. I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask that you take a moment to speak with me." He mulled the situation over for a moment, before adding something else; she seemed familiar somehow, but he couldn't place her face, and maybe getting her name could straighten the whole situation out for both of them. "My name is Gabriel, Miss...?"
  6. "Sharl, why did you-" And then the ghost of a teenage girl was right in his face, and Coribn blinked in surprise, the energy in his eyes fading as he tried to figure out what was going on. "Um, yes we-" Then Kimber flew through him after hearing a terrible howl, and he couldn't help but jerk at the action and cry out in shock. "JIMINY CHRISTMAS!" Then he turned around and saw the thing standing next to Eve. Sharl was already on the move, but Eve was just standing there; he heard her say something about not hurting it, but as it attacked Sharl (uselessly, but still), he became less concerned about that. This thing was attacking his friends! This would not stand. "Indira, follow and work to subdue it." As he flew, Corbin was suddenly clad in his gleaming armor. In his hands, a three-section-staff whirled to life, the sections about 3/4 of an inch thick in the teen hero's large hands. He put everything he had into building up the momentum for his hit, likely leaving himself open to attack. Finally, he was next to the creature, and the weapon in his hands flashed forward. "Get away from them!"
  7. Hm. Move Action: Get up close and personal with the Wendigo. Free Action: Use the Alternate Power: Strike 3 (Extras: Penetrating 11 [DMG 22], Feats: Mighty) [15PP]; normal Attack Bonus is 11, and normal Toughness Save DC is 26. Free Action: All-Out Attack 5: Attack Bonus now 16, Defense now 1 Power Attack 5: Attack Bonus now 11, Toughness Save DC now 31 Standard Action: Attack the Wendigo with a strike! 19, which doesn't quite do it. Hero Point Reroll! 28 does the trick. That'll be a DC 31 Toughness Save
  8. Gabriel had flown close enough to look in one of the broken windows. For several moments, he watched what was going on. He took a few glances around. No sign she had backup, and she didn't look to be part of the police. Sighing, he reached up and rapped sharply on the window frame. When she looked over, he projected his voice inside to her. Bombshell would hear him as if he were standing right next to her, not several feet away and on the other side of a window. "Pardon me, miss, but I don't believe you're part of the staff here. Not that this place likely has any staff, but...I'm going to have to ask what you're doing here, as well as asking you to come with me for a chat. I'm sure we can do this peaceably." He floated there, arms crossed over his chest, metal armor gleaming and white coat flapping in the wind. His expression was, if not friendly, at least not hostile. He seemed to be patiently waiting for her response.
  9. Evening, Skies Above Southside It had been a fairly quiet evening for Gabriel. Despite the weather being more pleasant, and thus more conducive to crime, he'd only stopped two muggings and one store robbery. It seemed crime was genuinely down in the area, if not eliminated entirely. 'I suppose human nature means it'll never go away entirely.' He was flying slowly through the air, occasionally stopping to listen for cries of help. He was still getting used to this new "twist" on his powers, but he had a decent handle on it these days. After a minute of listening, he continued on to the warehouse district. Here, he was more cautious, as gangs sometimes roamed this area, and he wasn't exactly a subtle presence. He was letting his eyes wander the area when something caught his attention. It seemed to be the light from a flashlight playing against the window of what ought to be an abandoned warehouse's office. He frowned and started carefully flying closer. 'Hn. Wonder what this is about...'
  10. OOC for the thread where Bombshell and Gabriel meet, and possibly even fight crime!
  11. Corbin nodded. "Fair enough. To be honest, I haven't been around them all quite enough yet to get a sense of it. I mean, there was the greenhouse project a few days ago, but beyond that..." He shrugs and gives an odd smile. "My girlfriend and I have been trying to make what use we can of the last bit of summer before classes hit full-swing. But yeah, that seems like a fair assessment. We may just see one or both teams get some "part-time" members, really. As for the Mess Hall, sounds good to me. I didn't have any big plans tonight." 'Mostly because my girlfriend is off visiting her family for a couple days, mom and dad are busy with work stuff, and the rest of my team's off doing one thing or another. Not that many of them eat very often...'
  12. Techno-magical "divine" Matrix? Interesting, possible. Hm. Maybe 2 villains, with a big beefy "Dragon" (the trope, not the type, though maybe the type too), and the "Mastermind". So...Maybe Gabriel and Jubatus are investigating from different "angles", run across Tendril in the process, and...Quote, any ideas for Blueshift there?
  13. Duh! Evasion 2, why didn't I think of that one. Skill Mastery is possible. Acrobatics and...3 other skills. Hm. Knowledge...I dunno. Maybe just give him Eidetic Memory? Pop Culture could work. Again, that's something that I think I'm going to have to bounce off of AA and Electra.
  14. Right, so, folks may have caught wind of it in chat, but my next character is going to be Thoughtspeed, teenage son of Fast-Forward and Hologram (Electra's psychic character). Here is another build for him that includes a sidekick version of Thoughtspeed (at least in a very vague sense). Right now, I'm going to try and map out concepts and vague abilities that I think fit this character, and try to build from there (perhaps with input from AA and Electra). Background: -Son of 2 former super-villains, the last of the wacky Silver and Bronze age types. Worst crimes are things like stealing. So, likely has only moderate respect for authority (well, authority besides his parents!). -Traveled all over the country, possibly further. -Back in Freedom City recently, likely attending Claremont. -Is sick of '90's lingo. Abilities, Saves, Combat: -Should have solid physical and mental stats. Less strength than father(12-14, I think), but just as much dexterity and constitution (he's an agile sort, and he's got to have endurance for running!). Probably more about wisdom and charisma than intelligence; he's not dumb, but he gets by more on wits, intuition, and force of personality. -Fully Attack-Shifted and Defense-Shifted. Probably about 1/3-1/2 his attack comes from Melee Focus. Defense about the same for Dodge focus. Accuracy and agility, not raw power and resistance to injury. -Reflex save high, the other two decent. Again, he has to have good endurance, and running around fast means you have to have a well-focused mind. Actually, considering his origins, Will could likely get a bump as well, what with a psychic mom. Skills: -Decent Acrobatics (the whole "moving around fast" thing). -Good at noticing things and reading people; not sure how good he is at running a scam. -Possibly good Sleight of Hand, due to how limber he is. -I feel like he should have a bit more here, but I'm low on ideas. Feats: -Probably all four temporary trade-off feats. Mix in a couple others, and he could justify it as having some martial-arts training. Open to suggestions on the form. It'd be mixed unarmed and armed (which will be explained with his powers). -Melee and Dodge Focus (as stated above). -Move-By-Action, almost certainly. -Maybe Acrobatic Bluff? Not sure here, not sure what else might fit. -Quick Change. Powers (the meat-and-potatoes here): -Speed, from his father. Quickness as well (mental+physical, rather than one or the other). Possibly a Dynamic Power that lets him shift between the two. -Some form of mental powers. Mind-reading, emotion control, mind control, something. Perhaps 1 rank by itself, and then the rest in his array. -Possibly a small array with a couple of mental powers. Nothing too major, perhaps more sense-based ones rather than more active "attacks". -Strike. A mighty strike (so only a couple points of "damage bonus" from the power itself)...that's also got a good bit of Autofire. This is fluffed as him manifested twin blades of psycho-kinetic force (aka "mindblades"). Possibly some other stuff on them, not sure. Might be an array, with an AP that's a blade with reach (like an extra 5 feet, so a "mindblade polearm"), and possibly another AP with Penetrating but no autofire (for the really tough targets). Again, all of this is just kind of me thinking "out loud" and trying to get a mental sketch down. I'm hoping to see a Hologram build soonish, so I can get a better sense of what does and doesn't fit his mental powers (though, considering the jumbled nature of his genes and powers...). Thoughts? Ideas? Critique?
  15. Well, i'm going to need help. Mainly in some suggestions of what foe(s) we fight. I can probably nab stuff from Geez3r and AA's threads as needed...
  16. Best Action Movie? Or just plain Best Movie? You decide!
  17. Corbin nodded as John spoke. "I've met Victoria, Brian, and Morgan. Good kids, though Morgan could use more sense in his skull on occasion. And don't worry. I'll keep your origins a secret. I'll touch base with Eve, but I trust you. If we're going to be working on team coordination and cooperation, trust is an important first step." He reached out and took the drive, tucking it away in his pocked. "Should be handy information. I'll see if I can send you something similar in the near future. We're still...ironing out kinks." He shrugged. "I can't think of anything off the top of my head, except...Hm. We've got a lot of new students. You think there's odds of another group ending up kicking around?" He sounded genuinely curious.
  18. Gabriel, by default, plays nice. So it really depends on how hardshell your naytheist is when dealing with the guy who took an adventure into Heaven to forge his armor and spear. Tendril, Quote: I guess the question becomes: What sort of thread would you like to do? I have a bit of rough experience running fights, so I could do a bit of combat. Also, Quote, whichever character you think fits better, I guess. Same question goes to Cubist, really. Unless you all feel like being in one thread. If so, that's my limit; more than 4 PCs would be a bit too much. :?
  19. Cool. I'll see what other interest rustles up. I'd remind you that Gabriel's PL14 point-wise, with Pl13 caps. So, whatever character you think wouldn't feel "left behind" or anything.
  20. Corbin Alphonse Hughes was many things, and was capable of many things. Some things didn't come as easily to him, though. For one thing, he often did poorly at picking up on the more subtle "social games" many of his peers played. It was, oddly enough, one of the factors in the success of his relationship with Quo-Dis; neither of them like playing such games, and instead preferred honesty. That was why, when Jeena "accidentally" brushed against him once or twice, he thought it was a genuine accident (and his own fault, to boot). He hadn't given it a second thought, at least not until he saw her run off after shrinking down. He was also poor at concealing his emotions when not in a fight. It was easy to see the progression of emotions after Jeena ran off. First there was contemplation and confusion. Then, after a few moments, there was understanding, which quickly melted to sympathy; while he wasn't interested, he didn't like seeing the girl so upset. Of course, there was a reason she was so upset. Ever so slowly, Corbin's gaze shifted from Jeena's general direction, over to Morgan. His expression went from a brief burst of understanding, to irritation, to something...else. "Cold fury" might apply, despite the handful of sparks that came from his eyes as he marched over until he was within Crow's arms' reach. He then leaned over and spent over a minute just looking the underclassman in the eye, even as the younger teen berated himself. Corbin continued to just stare at the boy for a bit, his eyes glowing faintly, his expression carved from stone, his arms crossed over his chest. Finally, he spoke, and his voice rumbled up from his chest, sounding vaguely like a truck starting up. Or maybe a tank. "Yeah. I might just do that. Or maybe, the next time you decide to use the relationship I have with the woman I love as a petty, blunt weapon, I'll skip right to a "training session" that'll leave you begging for Mr. Archer. Because as much as it upsets me that you were so callous in general as to make her cry, it....offends me...that you used my relationship to do it. That's been done once before, Morgan Crowe." Corbin leaned in further, his face only inches from Morgan's "Suffice to say, it did not end well for the party responsible. You would do well to remember that, little rune-maker." He straightened up in a blur, his left hand all but slamming onto Crow's shoulder as a grin split his face. "I'm so glad we had this heart-to-heart chat, aren't you? Anyways, why don't you look over everything again. I'm gonna go get a drink." With that, he walked off, humming a Viking metal rock song under his breath.
  21. I can't get it typed properly until I'm at home on my pc, but Corbin is less than happy with Morgan. They're gonna have a talk... In case it's wondered why, in his eyes Morgan was using Corbin's relationship as a sort of weapon. Which...yeah.
  22. 17. Man, Corbin didn't even tempt fate this time! EDIT: Would I need to make some sort of roll to figure out where the howl is coming from? Or, put another way, to determine "Hey...Eve flew off in that direction. She might be in trouble!"?
  23. Corbin finished tightening the last bolt before he turned around in midair. He had a look of concentration on his face. "Um. Maybe? I guess it depends on when and where? Our last double date had...mixed results, but that was also a while ago. I'm sure things would go more smoothly this time. It'd be her call, though." He was a bit curious what prompted this, but it didn't really sink in to his mind or anything. "And I don't know the city that much better; my family's only been here about a year now."
  24. Corbin thinks the whole contact thing is his fault, so no counter-checks there. As for a read on him...Corbin doesn't seem to be giving her lingering glances or anything. He doesn't seem to glance away from Jeena, so it's not that he dislikes girls or anything. But there's no immediate interest from him; he's not "checking her out" or anything of the sort. 15's a bit low, in my mind, to get the full measure of "this dude's totally taken already", but enough to get the idea he's not going to jump her bones.
  25. "Sounds like they're working on your foundation. Aim tends to come easier once you know your limits. Plus, throwing teleporation into the mix always makes things more complicated. Seems like you have a good handle on things, though." Corbin gave a low whistle. "Fifty feet? I never really got much past that, though I didn't have much opportunity to do so. And there's nothing wrong with basic shapes, really. If that's what works, it's what works. I just am of the mindset that says it's always good to be versatile. Once my ring's not "shorted out" again, I'll likely work on being more precise than I was before, even. Hopefully I'll find a way to make tougher constructs, too." "Hate to sound like a teacher, but that's probably a good idea. Never know when you might need that. But no, you don't sound like an idiot. Everybody approaches things differently, you know? But!" He held up a finger as an amused look crossed his face. "Give it a shot. You don't need to like them all, but try them all. Drawing, painting, computer drawing, carving, metal sculpture, clay sculpture, stone carving, LEGO kits, whatever works. Find some way to flex that particular muscle in your brain. It'll be worth it, and you might have some fun in the process!" Corbin chuckled. "It's not a big deal. Besides, I've trained with Archer a couple of times, in sessions with Erin, Mark, Trevor, and Eve." Those student who'd been there last year knew he meant the previous year's roster of Young Freedom: Wander, Midnight, Edge, and Sage! Corbin just shook his head with a smile. "I've dealt with plenty that's worse than Archer. Though yeah, he can be tough. 6-7ish, huh? Hm." He finished tightening a bolt, then floated away from the catwalk a bit to ponder things. "I could do that a couple times. How about day after tomorrow? I'll probably catch breakfast afterwards." For his part, Corbin seemed generally oblivious to any motives behind the contact. He noticed it the second time, and back up a bit. An embarrassed smile crossed his face. "Ah, sorry about that, Jeena. Sometimes, guy my size, we just bump into stuff. Add that into all of us scrambling around in here, and...Well, yeah. Again, sorry." He gave her a cheerful smile and got back to work on the last few connections, humming to himself as he worked.
