Corbin shook his head and smiled at Indira's question. "Well, it's spelled with a "y", not an "i"; Bear's a guy who hosts a television-" And then a wave of intense cold struck the group, just as Sharl's signal apparently cut out. Corbin frowned as frosts formed on the ground around him as he tucked away the map. He nodded as Eve handed out orders. His eyes began to glow with bright blue light, before they seemed to actually leak fire. Wisps of steam rose from his body in the intense cold, though no other flame was seen upon him. He opted against changing into his "work clothes" just yet. An ounce of subtlety might yet be handy today. Instead, he stomped forward, each step melting the frost that had been forming on the grass and dirt. "Indira. Watch my back. Try not to go full-bore metal form unless we end up in a fight. If this isn't an entirely hostile act, I don't want to set something off." He continued to stomp his way to the cabin in the middle of the clearing. Steam rolled off of his body, blue flame licked from his eyes, and his mouth was set in a grim line. As he walked, he thought in Eve's direction. -I see a cabin. I think that's the eye of this storm, and where Sharl went. By the by, do you think that, when this is over, Summers will care if I kick his keester up between his ears for charging off like that?- Despite his casual tone, it was clear Corbin was annoyed. He continued to be annoyed as he walked up to the door of the cabin and threw it open, attempting to take stock of the situation inside.

Bumping, because things have been busy, and I'd really like to get the poor guy some more action.

Hn. Well, might as well roll it... 17; not bad for only a +2 Wis mod. Immune to cold. Not really gonna jump the gun just yet; probably let one or two others post IC first, too.

"Red, blue, who cares what color it is. You've got the touch, as it were. How big can you make things, and how complicated?" He continued to work as he talked, moving from piece to piece to fasten the catwalk on. Corbin noted the junior's expression and couldn't quite hide the smile. 'Man. Wasn't that me, a year ago? Seems like a good guy.' "Well, I've got a few pointers, anyways. Let me ask you this: Do you do any sort of visual art? Drawing, painting, sculpting, that sort of thing?" Corbin turned to face Morgan, a cautiously curious look on his face. "Oh? What time is the session? Don't want to interfere with my classes or anything." 'Or my occasional chance to sleep in with company...'
-
Corbin couldn't help the smirk that crossed his face. 'Buddy, Overshadow's small fry to Young Freedom these days. If only you know just who and what we'd faced...' But they still weren't allowed to spread that information around (though Corbin couldn't really help but tell his parents and girlfriend what had happened), so he stayed silent on that matter. Instead, he sat there, his gaze seeming to pin John in place for a couple of minutes as he seemed to think over the situation. Finally, he gave a slow nod. "First of all, I have to admire that you and your friends have come together like that. Really, forming a team like this is no small thing; if it was really easy, the whole school would be nothing but teams." 'Though, I suppose it's about half-composed of teams...' Shaking off that thought, he pressed on. "I'd be more than happy to serve as a liaison to your group, and once we get over the initial...speedbump...of your origin, I think you'd be a good liaison from your group to Young Freedom. I'm flattered that you guys want to have us as your backup, and it seems like an entirely reasonable way to do things. I can't really speak of many specifics right off the top of my head, but maybe sometime soon we can try a joint training session. Pit the teams against each other, so we can all get a better feel for fighting as units. Having new people means we need to work out the "kinks" in our dynamic. This sounds like it'll give us a good chance to do that."

Corbin had been about to lift the catwalk himself, but then Brian got to it first. The large youth shrugged and flew over to start tightening screws and such. As he went from bracket to bracket, he glanced at the energy constructs holding everything in place. "So, Brian. What all do your powers let you do? It's just that, even though it looks different, it seems like you're getting a similar end result to what my ring can do. Which isn't bad, mind you." He shrugged as he worked. "Guess I'm saying, if you want, I can give you some tips later on. Never hurts to bounce ideas off of others, you know? This sort of power takes a lot of effort and thought. Never hurts to find out "shortcuts" for stuff."
-
"Like I said, it was just a year. I'm not exactly Bear Grylls or anything. Hence the asking about the map." He went back to glancing back and forth at the map, at least until Sharl spoke up. He gave a furtive look towards Becky before speaking. "Oh, nice. Sounds like a handy phone feature, Sharl. And yeah, it's paper. I picked it up when we parked; there was a whole bunch of them at a little informational stand thing." He folded the map up and tucked it away, then gestured for Sharl to lead them. "You've got the electronic map, you lead the way, bud. And yeah, Canada's got some big forests. Nice clear air up this way, too." He took a deep breath and smiled when the morning air flowed through his lungs.

Corbin sat silently for several long, tense moments, his expression unreadable. He appeared to be mulling over the words of the student in front of him. Finally, the glow of the ring ceased, and he relaxed at least somewhat. "Okay. I'm willing to believe you, enough so that we're not going to march to the Headmaster's office right now. I'll try to touch base with him later. Just to make sure. No offense, but the last time I saw Overshadow, it was...It was a pretty severe situation. I understand why you don't want this getting around. You and yours would be at risk from both inside and outside. Outside groups like SHADOW, and inside...well, teenagers can be cruel and petty a lot of the time. No need to add fuel to the fires." He sits back, an inquisitive look on his face. "So. What was it you wanted to talk to me about?"

Carson Keefe, AKA Gabriel, works at Freedom College in the Theater Arts Department. That said, I could certainly see us coming up with plot hook reasons for him to be at FCU.

Feel free to have Corbin be completely wrong! He has no survival ranks or anything. :D

-Fair enough. And yeah, that's the advantage of extra pocket cash, isn't it? Course, we get free flights anyways...- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Corbin had taken much of the trip in silence, answering questions from his companions, but otherwise just contemplating the area around them. He seemed a bit more energetic, though. As if being in "the outdoors" like this was invigorating for him. He stopped now to consider his copy of the map. Finally, after looking at the map, the campgrounds, and all the signs around them a half-dozen times, he leaned over to Eve and Becky and asked in a quiet voice. "Am I right in thinking we want that path?" He pointed to the trail in question, before gesturing at his map. "It's the best match I've got, but honestly, I was only in the Boy Scouts for a year, and I missed all the map-following exercises." He straightened with a chuckle. "I tie a mean knot, though."

The hand seemed to be free-floating blue fire, though there was no detectable heat or other indicators. However, if he tried to touch it, it would feel solid, though with little texture. Corbin took perhaps a minute to finish, then placed a bookmark on the page and closed the book, setting it down. He looked at the other student, offering him an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that. I can be a bit of a history bookworm, but what are you going to do, right? Anyways, can I...help...you..." As he spoke, his face went from "friendly" to "confused" to "on-alert". His posture shifted, and while he didn't immediately attack, the glow of his ring indicated he was ready to do so at any time. "Who are you, what do you want, why are you here? Considering that face, I'd like a couple answers."

Corbin had been working on getting the L brackets set up for the catwalk while the others went about their tasks. Between his strength and ability to fly, it had been a total snap. He'd just finished fastening the last one on when he heard Gwen ordering the pizza. He shrugged and flew over to where the drinks were, grabbing a bottle of water and popping it open. Taking a swig, he walked over to the one directing this little party. "L brackets are on. What do we need to do next?" He took another swig and swept a bit of sweat from his brow; while he wasn't pushing himself hard, it was a light workout if nothing else. "Unless there's something else, I think it's ready for me and Jeena to put the catwalk on."

Corbin had retreated to the library after there were one too many freshman and sophomores running around the grounds outside. Considering the powers and sizes of some of them, his perch in a tree wasn't really a safe quiet spot. He'd decided it would be novel to try reading not only inside, but in a building dedicated to books. So he'd found a nook in a far corner, and dug into his 3-inch-thick tome on the history of Grecian City-States from B.C. 1000 to B.C. 300. He was just hitting the chapter on the Peloponnesian War when someone came up to talk to him. Without looking up, he conjured a hand to point at a nearby chair. He spoke without breaking his reading. "No, yeah, that's fine. Gimme just a minute here. Got a bookmark, but it helps to hit a chapter break. Got a page and a half left." It seemed he was reading rather rapidly, enough that it shouldn't take more than a minute or so...
-
Corbin was, typically, completely oblivious to Jeena's interest in him, or her brief moment of grief. His eyes were concentrated on the task in front of him, and his ears were occupied by a mix of 80's rock, classic metal, classical, and a whole host of other eclectic items on his playlist. He went about his work bobbing his head, humming, and occasionally softly singing a few lyrics. Eventually, all 5 sub-sections were assembled, and he gave a satisfied nod as he pause his music and pulled the earphones out. He looked toward Gwen and waved to get her attention. "Hey! Gwen! We ready to put this on the thing yet?"
-
Corbin gave the giantess a smile as he continued to work on assembling the walkway. He considered things for a moment before nodding and pointing at one of the larger sections he'd assembled, one that was about a fifth of the total walkway. "Could you move that over there? Then maybe start in on putting individual sections into larger bits, and I can fasten them and such? I think I'll try to put together sections about that large, then we take them over there, put them all together, and lay it all on the foundation. I'll support the whole thing from below, while you do the actual guiding into place. You're in a better position to see it fitting together than I could get." With that, he got to work on assembling the rest of the walkway pieces, apparently assuming Jeena would follow his lead. He pulled some headphones out and cranked up a random mix on his iPod. The first song on his playlist made him smirk and bob his head a bit with the music.

Corbin ignored the stares his friends, Becky, and some nearby tables were giving him; after all, he'd done a total of 4 plates of food before dessert, all of them stacked plenty high! He was finally getting some decent comfort food! Sure, it wasn't like they made it back home, but a lot of this stuff was pretty good, especially for a buffet. And while the food he'd had when they'd met Indira was interesting, it wasn't quite his style. Despite the amount he was eating, he never scarfed the food down, and made no mess to speak of; any "mess" was easily taken care of with a wipe or two of a napkin. He stayed fairly quiet during the dinner, though he answered any questions Becky had, and threw in the occasional comment to the conversation in general. He did slip a curious glance at Eve once in a while. Finally, after he'd sat down with a dessert plate that had 3 kinds of cake and a couple good-sized scoops of ice cream, he sent a question toward her over their mental link. 'I know you're the one who said this needed to be a group thing, but...we're not cramping your style, are we? If you want, we can stay an extra day here. Don't think Summers would be ticked about it.' About then, Eve asked a potentially loaded question, and Corbin took a slow, careful bite as he waited for the answer himself.

Corbin gave a half-grin as Morgan proclaimed he was in the big leagues already. "Mhm. Big leagues, sucker punching, gotcha." Most of his attention was on the current frame piece he was working on; he'd placed the necessary screws already, and was instead working on the nails that attached secondary pieces. Instead of a hammer, he was slowly but firmly pushing the nails in. Using only his right thumb, with no visible damage or effort. When he'd finished with that piece, he looked around with a slight frown. Gwen was right, there was a lot to do, and Morgan seemed to be doing alright with the frame. "I'll help with the boardwalk." He set down the piece he'd finished of the basic frame, and moved to where they'd started pulling out piece of the boardwalk. He calmly got to work in a similar fashion as he had before; nails were simply pushed in, and he manhandled items that weighed hundreds of pounds as if they were cardboard.

Faith Protects, Kevlar Helps (IC)

It took Carson a moment to adjust to the rapid shift, the sights, sounds, and smells almost overwhelming him. He gave a laugh as Heyzel described the place as "the marketplace of marketplaces". "Seems like this place improved over time. Perhaps that's what the Good News is Good for?" He looked around a bit more, shifting the burden of the metal bars he was carrying. "Is there someone in particular we're going to be looking for?" -
DONE BY SHAENTHEBRAIN Now for Cobalt Templar. He's got 4pp to spend, and...Hey now! His attack with Holy Fire Control is too high! Hm. Gotta trim that down. Let's take 2pp and raise his Base Attack from 4 to 5. Then remove 1 rank of Attack Specialization (Holy Fire Control). That should make things look thus: Attack: +5, +11 Holy Fire Control And in Feats, it'd be: Feats: 7PP *snip* Attack Specialization (Holy Fire Control) I think I'll save the other 2PP for now. DONE BY SHAENTHEBRAIN
-
DONE BY SHAENTHEBRAIN Edits for good old Gabriel. Much less going on this time. Even with 12PP to spend! First, the biggest change. I'd like to add the following to his Powers section: Device 3(15PP, Flaws: Easy-To-Lose; Feats: Subtle ("Turns Into Ring"); Features: +2 to Perform Wind ("Turns Into Trumpet") [11PP] (Heavenly Spear [Holy, Piercing, Silver]) [device]Light Control 1 (5ft radius, Flaws: Range [Touch]) [1PP] Strike 11 ( Feats: Mighty, Accurate 2) [14PP][/device] Which, incidentally, does this: ATTACK RANGE SAVE EFFECT Unarmed Touch DC17 Toughness (Staged) Damage (Physical) Blast Ranged DC28 Toughness (Staged) Damage (Energy) Confuse Ranged DC23 Will Confused Dazzle Ranged+Area DC23 Reflex 1/2 Effect DC23 Reflex Deafened DC23 Fortitude Recover Drain Ranged DC23 Fortitude Drain Toughness Emotion Control Perception DC23 Will (Staged) Emotion Control Nauseate Ranged DC23 Fortitude (Staged) Sickened/Nauseated/Helpless Paralyze Ranged DC23 Will (Staged) Slowed/Paralyzed Strike Touch DC28 Toughness (Staged) Damage (Physical) EDIT: Just realized, I forgot to add his descriptor text for the spear! I shall fix that now. Should be able to just plug this at the end of the rest, or at least tack the paragraph at the end. Just as noticeable as his armor is Gabriel's new weapon. Where before he relied solely on his sonic powers, he now has a shining spear to help surprise unsuspecting opponents, or those who display unusual resistance to his favored powers. The spear itself is exactly as long as Gabriel is tall (6'), with 10 inches being the the leaf-shaped blade; said blade has a smooth curve, and flares out to 4 inches wide before narrowing down again. The whole weapon seems made of silver, yet notably stronger than said metal has any right to be. The spear has incredible power within itself, shining out when Gabriel wishes it. Just as incredible is its ability to turn into into a great shining silver trumpet, or its ability to turn into a simple silver ring on his right hand (so that it's available when he wants it without being obvious). All in all, Gabriel looks the part of the guardian angel so many already think of him as. DONE BY SHAENTHEBRAIN  Next, we're going to take away Attack Focus (Ranged) from Feats (which puts it at 19PP). Then we're going to raise his Base Attack to 9. That will make that section look like so: That spends all his points!  Finally, DC Block:
-
So, again, 12PP overall. Device 3(15PP, Flaws: Easy-To-Lose; Feats: Subtle ("Turns Into Ring"); Features: +2 to Perform Wind ("Turns Into Trumpet") [11PP] (Heavenly Spear [Holy, Piercing, Silver]) Light Control 1 (5ft radius, Flaws: Range [Touch]) [1PP] Strike 11 ( Feats: Mighty, Accurate 2) [14PP] Again, the last free PP goes into making his Base Attack 9, giving him an Attack of 13 with his Sonic Array, 13 with the Holy Spear, and 9 with any other attacks. Now to go make the edits.....
-
I am slightly confused. I know we spoke of this regarding Cobalt Templar's ring, and how it had to be the Holy Fire Control array, not the ring, that got the Attack Spec (which I was fine with; I can always buy more base attack later). With Gabriel, the idea is that by himself, he'd now have BAB 9, and enough Attack Specialization to push him up to PL13 caps (for the moment) with his Sonic Array. Meanwhile, the Spear has Accurate because, in my mind, the spear itself is just that good. but any other melee weapon or method, he's back to 9 attack bonus. Not trying to dispute, just confused as to what we're speaking of now. :?:
-
This is just to write out my planned upgrade for Gabriel: a holy, magical spear. That turns into a trumpet, or a ring. So! Easy to Lose Device, because he has to hold it in his hand, if and it gets out of his hands, he has to manually go pick it up. Granted, when it's a ring it's harder to get away...but it'll be nothing but a ring. Anyways. Device 3(15PP, Flaws: Easy-To-Lose; Feats: Subtle ("Turns Into Ring"); Features: +2 to Perform Wind ("Turns Into Trumpet") [11PP] Strike 11 ( Feats: Mighty, Accurate 2) [14PP] I think I have the math right there. He's got 12 PP total; I think I'll take the leftover point and bundle it with his Attack Focus: Ranged to just add a point of Base Attack. Not sure what to do inside the Device, though; still have a PP there, too.

Corbin had grabbed a shovel, and had even started getting a few good digs in, whistling a bit while he works...before Vicky and Jeena dove in and got to work much more efficiently. He shrugged, set the shovel to one side, and stepped over to the table to grab four pastries. He took careful bites, but simple geometry meant they were still big bites. He tilted his head to one side as he watched Brian put the pieces together. Then he realized he didn't really know half the kids here. He scarfed the last pastry down and dusted his hands off before speaking. "Right, uh, the name's Corbin, by the way. Don't think I've met all of you. Nice to meet you now, though." He glanced at Crow and gave him a half-smile. "Nice work, Morgan. You'll play in the big leagues yet." By then, Brian had finished the large scale assembly, leaving only the fastening to do. Corbin grabbed a screwdriver, some screws, and sat down next to one support to get to work. "Y'all don't know how nice it is today; back where I come from, it's been running triple digits for a couple weeks now. This stuff is nothing. Not that I'm the best judge of that these days, though."
