1. Hoboy. Well, first off... Standard Action: Aid Attack with Wander, giving her +2 Defense (at Electra's request). Just need to hit Defense 10. 12, which is more than 10. Move Action: Multi-lingual insults! EDIT: Translations! First, from Arabic: "You are a villain!" (was supposed to have "base", but eh). Next, from Lation: "Your appearance is like a filthy animal!" (or that's what it's supposed to be, silly google language tool) Next, from Greek: "You are not a threat to the likes of us!" Finally, from Hebrew: "All your dreams will be as nothing and you will be a complete failure for the rest of your days!" (again, roughly speaking)
2. There aren't sufficient curse words in all of language sufficient to this situation. Especially now that I'm on a whopping 11.
3. DONE BY SHAENTHEBRAIN Here we go, folks. Cobalt Templar's Big Edit/Retool! I'll do both a spoiler (to show how it looks) and a code block (to allow easy copying). First, a few minor things: Trade-Offs: -5 Defense / +5 Toughness Height: 6'6" Weight: 250 lbs. Powers & Tactics: Cobalt Templar has gone from a cautious fighter to, if not reckless, certainly a more straightforward combatant. He relies upon his incredible resistance to injury to see him through a fight, and he often abandons caution even more to give himself a better chance at a telling blow. He is equally capable of fighting up close or at range, though against notably tough foes he will try to get close, as his melee abilities have a greater chance of bypassing their defenses (via concentrating all that energy into something that cannot leave his hands). Complications: Complications: Secret (Identity): While his parents and the people at Claremont know of his powers, the Cobalt Templar is not at all officially connected to Corbin Hughes. Which is how Corbin would like to keep things. A GM should feel free to give him a Hero Point when trying to keep his heroic identity secret becomes notably difficult. With Great Power...: Corbin's own sense of responsibility and personal code of ethics mean that he feels he must be a hero, since he has powers. Often, he will prioritize protecting and rescuing bystanders over pursuing escaping villains. A GM should feel free to give him a Hero Point when Cobalt Templar faces a choice between protecting bystanders and dealing with villains. I'm In Charge?: Cobalt Templar has recently become a senior member and leader of Young Freedom, working closely with Sage to help keep the team alive and bring in "new blood" in the form of juniors to fill out the ranks. They have been tasked with guiding this new group of young people to their destiny as heroes. A GM might grant Templar a Hero point if he faces serious troubles, especially in the field, while trying to help lead the new iteration of Young Freedom. The Fires of Hell Shall Not Prevail: Beings which channel the energies from the deepest pits of Hell (or similar places and energies) tend to have a better chance of hurting Cobalt Templar, despite his not-insignificant protections. A GM should feel free to let Cobalt Templar earn a Hero Point by somewhat increasing the effectiveness of hellfire-based attacks, or other effects and powers of a similar nature, against him. You Must Know No Fear!: Corbin's powers (or the ones still granted directly from the ring) tend to have serious troubles when he's experiencing serious amounts of fear (such as from the powers of a villain). Often, they work with less effectiveness, or stop working entirely. A GM should feel free to grant Corbin a Hero Point if he fails a save versus a fear affect, which should cause him to lose power, perhaps by losing ranks in his attack powers, defenses, and so on granted by his ring. 4. Round 2! Let me know if my Attack notation is off-kilter, and same with my Knockback. His Ring Grapple is Base 4 + Attack Spec Bonus 4 + Strength Bonus 8 + Super Strength Ranks 8 for 24. If that's off-kilter, let me know. EDIT: Adding this revision of stuff in so I've got it ready to copypasta in a bit: EDIT 2: Code block: ATTACK RANGE SAVE EFFECT Unarmed Touch DC22 Toughness (Staged) Damage (Physical) Blast Ranged DC26 Toughness (Staged) Damage (Energy) Strike Touch DC26 Toughness (Staged) Damage (Energy) Hm. Easier than I thought.
5. As soon as they'd stopped moving, Cobalt Templar had gone unconscious. It had taken him a minute to slump to the floor, though, considering his hands and feet were almost embedded in the plane by that point. Still, beyond the general stress (exemplified by his bloodied shirt, which he promptly disposed of when he awoke), he seemed generally alright, if out cold. Unfortunately for Sage, he didn't get any lighter when she dragged him along. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- He was walking in the direction of their next flight, freshly showered and changed, as he talked to Eve. "-think it's a nice perk. Yeah, neither of us needs free tickets, but still." He frowned lightly and fiddled with his ring a bit. "Have to say, ever since I woke up, something's felt...I dunno. Different. When we have the time, I might have to go through some drills, make sure the ring's still working right and all. I don't think it's out and out broke, but I didn't just strain myself back there, I strained it, too."
6. Corbin had watched as the others had sprung into action. He'd seen Eve's cousin from another world be tossed into Mark's mother. He'd seen a twisted copy of Trevor, and a pale shadow of his grandfather, fall like wheat to a combine. And he'd watched that twisted reflection of the woman he loved be struck down without mercy, turning to darkened ash even as her rotting body hit the floor. His expression had gone strangely blank as he saw it, even as he absently finished healing Sage with his powers. As the others talked and celebrated, he simply stood there. Even when Edge hugged him, he simply stood there. Only when addressed did he speak up. "Uh? Um. Yeah, I...I guess I can." Listlessly he walked over and poured the same healing energy into the Furion's body, slowly helping restore him to full fighting strength. Clearly the events of the last few minutes had left him in a sort of shock, though as he worked, he seemed to gain at least some focus.
7. Cobalt Templar's probably assumed for the Young Freedom portion. As well, I'd like to involve Gabriel in the Lab/Freedom League portion (maybe this helps kickstart his membership?). But I understand if that's less possible.
8. So...Base 4, Attack Spec 2, Accurate 2...hm. That's 12 total. I guess I could split the difference inside the ring, and have Enhanced Attack 1 and Accurate 2. That'd be 11, which is what I want.
9. So, let's see. He's got Base Attack 8. Maybe give him Base 5, Attack Spec (Ring) 3, and inside the ring, make his Blast and Strike Accurate 2, freeing up 6 points inside, while freeing up 6 more points outside?
10. Well, as far as outside the ring, I didn't want to make him too useless. Then again, that may be for another day. I could save some inside the ring by making his attack powers Accurate, I suppose. Attack Focus would only benefit ranged or melee, not both, and he does both. Attack Specialization....could I do that as "Attack Spec: Ring"? If I could, sure, I'd drop some of his base attack (though at minimum, I think I need 4 Base, yes?). So long as he's equally good with melee and ranged, I'm okay with it.
11. Okay, here it comes, the full-blown draft of Cobalt Templar's revision. All in all, not bad. He comes out better in a lot of ways. I do regret the loss of CO and TK, but...there's just no room right now. Thank goodness for in-story reasons! Anyways. Suggestions on the last 3pp are good. Or ways to trim this up a bit. I would sorta like to get Super-Strength in his ring somehow...
12. GM/NPC Fenris sighed and shook his head. Showing barely any effort, he tossed the man he'd been trying to interrogate onto his comrade; it was gentle enough to leave nothing but bruises. Casually, he moved his massive armored form to stand between Ramstein and the prisoners. Looking down at the "gentleman", he crossed his impressive arms over his chest and spoke in a low, careful growl. "Listen. I get that you're ticked, but like they said, these guys are bound and helpless. If you're really hot under the collar about the supposed danger they represent, I'll tase them unconscious, and *bam*, problem solved. That way, we make sure there's no risk, but we also make sure we can ask them questions about what's going on. Plus, you killing these guys like this just makes you a murderer too. So how about you walk out, nice and calm, go grab the police, and they can take these guys in or whatnot."
13. Corbin's strain was easily visible, the largest sign being his armor fading away, reducing him to only his "under-suit" and his mask. His eyes were constantly shut, and he rarely spoke, uttering only short sentences to make sure he understood how to course-correct the plane. On they flew, feet swiftly becoming miles, which in turned flowed into hundreds of miles. All the while, Corbin stood, hands and feet planted against the plane. There he stood, holding the lives of so many in his hands, holding them up on his broad shoulders, and most of all keeping them safe with his unbreakable will. Nonetheless, he was not immune to the strain. Perhaps 10 minutes in, he'd developed a harsh headache, one he hoped Eve wasn't catching the full brunt of through their link. He'd been sweating the whole time, and had needed sips of water a few times. And lately, his face and shoulders had been feeling unusually sticky, beyond what he'd have thought sweat would bring on. The reason, of course, was that he wasn't just sweating, he was sweating blood from his head, neck, and shoulders. His white t-shirt, buried under his regular costume, was utterly ruined. Not that it would really matter to the implacable teenager; he had a job to do. His head lifted up to look at the pilot and co-pilot, his eyes slowly tearing themselves open through his exhaustion. His voice was hoarse, the strain clearly having affected even his vocal cords. "How....long? Until we land, that is. I mean, I've got as much stamina as the next guy, but my arms are getting tired from flapping so much." His weak smile and weaker humor betrayed his exhaustion, and the question itself betrayed his desperation. How much longer could the boy hold on?
14. For several long moments, Corbin just sat there, half-embedded in the wall. Then he looked over and saw Eve, still reeling from the blow the corrupted version of her cousin had dealt her. She was vulnerable. She was a friend, and she was in trouble right now. With a snarl, he pushed away from the wall, denting it just a bit, before he blazed a comet-bright trail over to her. When he reached her, he stopped and clenched his eyes shut in almost painful concentration. Then, he reached one hand over and gently laid it on her shoulder. Suddenly, ethereal blue fire washed over her body. But it did not burn her; just the opposite, this fire was warm, soothing, relaxing. It seemed to want to help her and heal her, to give her new life and energy. "I'm not losing any more friends!" His voice was filled with defiance as he glared at Not-Faith, his free hand clenching and un-clenching, as if to dare her to try something.
15. Right then. Time to use those shiny new Hero Points, amiright? Move Action: Move over to Sage's side. Free Action: Extra Effort to stunt Healing 6 off of Energy Manipulation 6 (12PP Array, Feats: Alternate Power) (Fires of Creation) [13PP] Standard Action: Begin healing Sage. This is still a full-round action (since I didn't buy down the rate for it), so I think that means it will take until next round. She will get a recovery check with a +6 bonus from me. I will be using a Hero Point my next turn to avoid Fatigue.
16. Going to be on less frequently for a while; it's really hot in KC, and our house's AC is doing a poor job. Consequently, my computer's running hot and making noise. It's old and needs replaced, or at least upgraded, but until then, I'm probably going to be on rather sparingly.
17. We might as well just give Corbin the bottom of the initiative. Or say he rolled a Nat 1. It's not like he's in any immediate shape to do...anything, really. I'll roll when I get back home if you would prefer I do so, though.
18. Cobalt Templar had been distracted by Wander's assault on Physician Friendly; the blue hand had paused just as it started to touch the box, exerting only minor force. After the villain fell, Templar turned back to the box, not really feeling sorry for the man at all. Though he did find it sad Erin would lack her bat. 'Wonder what freak show he's got in here?' he thought to himself. There were many things Corbin thought might sit up. Fresh Omegadrones, "special model" Omegadrones, Evil Clones of Young Freedom, maybe some of the lesser Annihilists that had to be roaming around. He certainly didn't expect a twisted copy of the woman he loved, her cold beauty shining as a testament to the so-called might of the Terminus, a slave to Entropy. Her cold, dead eyes bored into his very soul, and the not-quite-right sound of her voice echoed in his heart and mind. Mouth agape, he took several stumbling steps backward, the gun in his hands dropping to the floor and dragging along with him. Corbin's breath hitched in his throat, his eyes filled with salty tears, and his voice wavered. "Quo...Quo-Dis? Oh god, what did they do to you, baby? What are...no, god no, not you not younotyounotyou!" His construct weapon screeched along the ground for a second before it faded. His cape turned to red ash in a non-existent wind, and his helmet crumbled around his head, until suddenly he slammed into a nearby wall why trying to fly away from the Not-Quo-Dis-Thing. When he next spoke, it was a sobbing plea that was both softer and deeper than normal, the huge boy running one hand through his hair as he cried tears that turned into liquid flame. "Pleasenopleasenopleasenopleasenopleaseno..."
19. Gabriel smiled and waved at the crowd, taking a couple of bows as he floated around a bit. Of course, Kirk Talon wasn't the only one who could be subtle in speech. Gabriel's voice whispered in his ear, even from several feet away, with no obvious motion of his lips, and no one else seemed to hear it. "I apologize that I nearly lost my temper. I do not apologize for standing up for a friend, though she is not my "girlfriend" as you put it. As for Yoltsin, well, I suppose you'll just have to keep pandering to him. I certainly don't want people losing jobs. But don't expect me to roll over and play dead for you, or him, Mr. Talon." Privately, he considered trying to figure out how to talk to Yoltsin about allowing some journalistic integrity in his shows. He had a feeling it would be a wasted conversation, but it might be worth a shot. Sure the man could listen to at least some reason, right?
20. When Midnight had called out for him to hang on to himself and Edge, Cobalt Templar hadn't responded verbally. Instead, the strut nearest Edge extruded an arm that locked Edge into a seven-point harness. A similar structure grew behind Templar's own back, even as he continued to fire upon the swarm of Omegadrones. The only outward sign of his surprise at the "Death Blossom" was a slight widening of his eyes and a notable drop in his fire rate. Still, he never lost his lunch or anything like that. As they landed, the harnesses and shield winked from existence, and he floated to the ground, still grasping his blue, glowing minigun, though the barrel was currently pointed down and to the left. He marched with the others, cape flowing in a non-existent breeze as he strode up the steps of what used to be Freedom Hall. His feet left slight craters in the ground, some combination of burning and sheer impact. It was clear that his mood was a dark one, despite the impassive appearance on his face. When they encountered the strange scene before them, he almost turned his gun on Physician Friendly and fired then and there. But a glance at both Sage and Wander made him rethink that path. Instead, he merely nodded at the women and proceeded to fly over to one of the seven caskets. His gun was aimed at it, and an ethereal arm of blue fire extended from his chest and attempted to open the casket, or at least examine it further. Perhaps it had a viewport?
21. Cobalt Templar's mouth was a thin line as he listened. When the plane lurched, he spread his feet out and planted himself in place. For several long moments, he was silent, his face frustrated. Until suddenly, hope dawned on his features. "I can make things. Fairly big things. Tell me what to make, I'll strap it on this plane, and we'll damn well steer it home. But I can't jump out there to see everything on my own....Sage!" The last word was hollered back over his shoulder even as he braced himself in the cockpit, ethereal blue fire beginning to flow over his form. He was almost like Samson in his last moments; the only difference was, he was working to save lives, not take them. But the effort would be similar. Thankfully, Sage was almost immediately in the cockpit. --If you can get me an idea of what the rest of the plane looks like in real time, and keep letting me know, that would be wonderful. And hang on tight.-- His teammate seemed to almost anticipate his request, and he quickly was linked up with Sage and the crew, getting an excellent view of the whole plane. As the pilot spoke, Cobalt Templar surged his powers outward, slowly but carefully crafting what the pilot instructed him to. The strain was visible, but he held his ground, sweat beginning to trickle down his face, only to sizzle away softly as his body heated up from the power he was channeling. He developed a rather noticeable headache, but refused to think about it. His body hunched a bit more, and metal groaned around him as he put slight dents in the floor. 'I can do this! I'm a hero! I'm part of Young Freedom! I can save these people! No one dies today!' Through gritted teeth, his muscles creaking in tune with the stress of the plane, he roared his defiance as the ocean raced closer. "No one dies today! Not here, not now!"
22. Okay, first things first. CT has the following power: Now, I'm going to invoke this: To stack the "Improved Rank" benefit. Which means 4 more ranks of CO. So 9 cubes, Toughness 9, 90ft increments, 900ft maximum...and lifting strength 45, Heavy Load 12 Tones. He's going to use the pilot's guidance to craft basic control surfaces, starting at the front of the plane. Maybe Sage can pitch in to help him better perceive the rest of the plane. When appropriate, he'll use the Hero point to make himself Fatigued instead of Exhausted.
23. For much of the trip, Corbin had been in a semi-meditative state. He'd been concentrating on keeping the "shell" around Redbird up and functioning, keeping it as watertight as possible. It had been a smooth, clean dart in the water. Of course, even as they were breaching out of the water, he was letting sections fade out, to give his comrades space to engage the enemy, as well as to give better visibility to Midnight as he flew the plane. But now, he had to help clear the skies. He didn't have to worry about the shield moving; he'd made sure to secure it to the bit with a few struts and bands in key places. Calmly, he stood to his feet and flew out the same "window" Sage had use, only to land on the top of the shield. His feet sunk into the structure a bit, straps coming up to help brace him. His face showed no emotion, not even when he manifested a minigun and started blazing away at the already-battered Omegadrones that tried to blot out the sun. "I'll keep you safe, my love." His gun whirred its eerie tune as he continued to blaze away at the servants of Entropy and Destruction all around him.
24. I'm going to operate on the assumption that Cobalt Templar already had his forcefield up, and simple opened a couple of holes in it when they broke through the water. Thus, I'm going to go with the thought that he can simply Sustain his shielding (which is basically the shapes either joined or layered as much as possible, with a fair bit of room around the bike). Thus, he should be able to attack, and even move. Move Action: Move up to the top of the "shell" around the Bike, while still staying grounded to the structure. All-Out Attack 2: Defense now +3, Attack now +11 Power Attack 2: Attack now +9, DC now 26. Standard Action: Fire at Group A, Blast Attack Even with their pathetic defense, 12 isn't enough. Hero Point Reroll! Booyah! Natural 20! 29 total! I'll take the +5 Damage, which means Group A needs to make a Toughness Save DC 31!
25. --Don't hurt her too badly; looks like the newbie wants to get his licks in, no reason to stop him.-- Corbin spoke calmly to Eve as he started jogging up the aisle, before he suddenly moved to one side and flew over the rest of them. As soon as he reached the front and turned a corner, his body was covered in the typical armor of his costume, minus his cape. When he reached the cockpit, he was Cobalt Templar, and his expression was deathly serious. He knocked firmly on the door to the very front of the plane. "This is Cobalt Templar! I'm a hero, and I'm here to help in any way I can!" 'How exactly, I'm not sure, but I've got to do something!' He just hoped no one had seen him fly, and that things would be confusing enough no one would make a complete connection with his civilian guise.
