Cobalt Templar nodded as Nick offered to take the lead. 'Tough as I am, I think he'll do better against these sorts of nasty critters. Makes me more relieved, honestly.' He frowned as Warlock spoke of confiscating the texts. "If reading these made him crazy, why shouldn't we just burn the books, strip the walls, and burn that too? Do we actually need to keep books that drive people crazy in existence any longer than it takes to burn them?" When Warlock confirmed the insane magic-user was attempting to flee, his resolve hardened. "Yes. Let's go."

Cobalt Templar looked curious at the mention Sharl made of "getting around fine" without wifi. 'Hm. Technopath, or something else?' He shook off the curiosity for the moment. At Sharl's question, he looked thoughtful. "Hm. I wouldn't say we have a big group of them, but there are a few. Some people have it as a kind of "side hobby", while some are very heavily focused on technology. They're all smart, but there's a subset who are likely what you mean by "super-genius"." Of course, he doesn't tell Sharl who any of these kids might be. Wouldn't do to spill all the information at once!

"Classes aren't radically different. Same subjects, mostly the same methods. It's just our classes are a lot smaller, and we've got a very solid staff here. Believe it or not, I actually went to public school for all my life until now. Granted, it was a "nice neighborhood" public school, but still." He gives her a half-smile at being pronounced "cool". "We try, I suppose. I knew a mix of good and bad people back in my other school. Left a few friends along the way...Of course, even here, not everyone is "cool" or even nice. It's just a smaller group of people, so there's fewer of them. Plus, more people here want to be heroes, so that means you have fewer genuinely bad people."
-
Cobalt Templar stood there for a moment, seeming to contemplate their words. With a sigh, he tossed the pencil over his shoulder, where it evaporated, before turning and walking to Wander. His expression was embarrassed and helpless all at once. "Help? Please? I've had no experience questioning guys for more than two seconds; usually, me being a big guy in glowing armor does the trick. Do you have any tips or something we can try? I'm open to suggestions right now."

Twas an evil pony. Gabriel can sing a song to make them feel better, if they need it. Anyways. Knowledge: Arcane Lore: 18 Knowledge: Theology and Philosophy: 20

"Push, Stone, doesn't make a huge difference to me. But I knew that was your alias already." He gave the other hero a knowing smirk as he shook the offered hand. "Let's just say I hear things on the hero grapevine. As for having others here...Hm. Well, Arcturus is a good kid, though I kind of wish he hadn't gotten mixed up in this business. The big red guy is probably a hero named Atlas. Solid fellow, from what I've heard. Not sure on who else is out there." He takes a moment to snug his coat up a bit more, before nodding. He crouches a bit, and glances over to Push. "See you over there." And with that, he was suddenly blurring through the air, the sky rippling in his wake as brief peals of thunder sounded behind him. He landed in front of his targeted sorcerer within a couple of seconds, crouching slightly on the ground. He looked up at the twisted being of shadow, determination etched on his face. "You have one chance to quit the field of battle. Else, you face me. And I have bested demons and sorcerers before."

Just got a Natural 20 for Init in another thread. Let's see what- Dang it Invisible Castle! A 10? Really?

Gabriel flexed his fingers for a moment, shaking out imaginary cramps. He then made a show of dusting his hands off. "Nothing to it. I've had some practice with that trick for a while; first tried it on some over-sized robot made by "Doctor" Otaku. That was a nasty little episode." He sighed in relief as the fog started to clear. Of course, then Supercape noticed something in the water. Gabriel looked, but saw nothing at the moment. "Let's get some altitude, maybe?"

Haha! Nat 20! 26 Total Initiative!

Gabriel reigned in any frustration he had over the resilience of this foe. His memories of fear, pain, and death wrought by the Fae Folk were still fresh, even if the events were farther back than most might believe. Here and now, they had a dangerous beast to deal with. "Blasted unicorn! Go back to your forests where you belong!" He punctuated the cry with a rippling blast of sonic energy from his fists. This time, he sought merely to pummel his foe into submission, while not striking any of his comrades.
-
Free Action, switch array to Blast. Using All-Out Attack for -2 Defense, +2 Attack. Using Power Attck, for -2 Attack, +2 Damage. So Attack stays at 12 for ranged, and Toughness DC becomes 29. You have got to be kidding me. Hero Point Re-Roll. Attack 16, adjusted to 26. That hits, barely, so... Toughness Save DC 29. Eat sonic energy, unicorn!
-
Gabriel moved a bit closer, minding the lightning arcs as he did so. He seemed to be evaluating the device, judging its construction, deciding where to strike. Finally, he nodded and backed up a bit. The hum over his hands got a bit louder, but it wasn't worse than the sound an electric razor might make. "Just give me a minute here..." With that, he unleashed three quick blasts of energy. At first glance, they did nothing as they struck the metal of the structure. But if Supercape took a moment to examine it, he'd notice the integrity of the metal was greatly compromised in that location. Gabriel didn't give it much time to sit there, though; he followed the previous attacks up with three more, these composed of regular concussive force. It utterly shattered every point it struck. Ironically, the metal of the structure itself made more noise than his attacks. "Tim-ber!"
-
"Understood, Mr. Black. I'll do everything I can. Mr. Hughes, uh, out." With that, he walked away from the radio, grabbing a chair and pulling it closer to Push. He didn't sit down immediately, though. He took to walking around the room, eying the books on the shelf for the most part. "So. Is the auto mechanic thing just a cover? Or do you actually like working on cars? I mean, being a superhero must be pretty exciting, and if you work with AEGIS, surely you get some compensation."
-
Gabriel made a few circles of the center at fairly high speed, before slowing down some to quickly drop down to the same altitude as Supercape, before getting close enough he didn't need to shout or use ventriloquism. He lacked the other's enhanced senses, but even then the lighting was visible at this distance. Getting closer, the tower itself started to loom in the ground-level clouds. "I've got no idea what it does either. But I'm fine with that. You care if I turn it into crumbled scrap metal?" Even as he asked, energy was building up around his hands and forearms.
-
Cobalt Templar let his phantom blade quickly spool down to a stop, though he didn't immediately get rid of it. "Yeah, I guess none of us were that subtle. But hey, in for a penny, in for a pound. If we're going down, I say we go down. And if we're assuming they already know we're here, no reason to not go gung-ho." Having said that, he dissipates his sword, letting the energy return to his ring. "So. Who's going first?"
-
"A couple of them have basements, or small sections underground for maintenance and such. By and large, they're on the surface, though. And "tiny" is probably a bit relative. The idea here is that we don't feel penned in by the buildings, to make it a bit more "homey". Education is a big deal, but so is making sure everyone feels comfortable here. Having teenagers with superpowers feeling too stressed leads to bad things, I'd wager. Me, I like the open spaces. Lets me catch my breath, and gives me great material for drawing and painting." Cobalt Templar made sure to subtly guide their paths across the school grounds, never straying too close to other students, steering more for a "big picture" look than getting inside all of the buildings. Hopefully he was doing a good job in the headmaster's book.

This'll be a doozy, with 3 characters, 2 of which have 2 months of rewards to spend! First up: Gabriel Moving on. Cobalt Templar Trade-Offs: -4 Defense / +4 Toughness Moving on. 7PP to spend. First, buying off all 3 Drawbacks; the 2 on his Ring, and the one general one. Thus: Powers: 62 + 2 + 7 + 1 = 72PP Device 15 (Power Ring, 75PP Container, Flaws: Hard-To-Lose, Feats: Restricted 2) (Holy, Magic) [62PP] The following should be removed entirely: Drawbacks: -1PP Vulnerability (Demonic/Hellfire/Infernal, Frequency: Uncommon, Intensity: Minor [+1 DC]) [-1PP] 3PP spent, 4PP left. Now. Next we'll add 1 to his Protection outside the ring. Thus: Powers: 62 + 2 + 8 + 1 = 73PP Protection 8 (Holy, Magic) [8PP] Thus (I think I'm noting this correctly): Toughness: +12/+4/+3 (+4/+3 Con, +8 Protection, Impervious 6) As well, inside the Ring Device, we change this: Protection 1 (Extras: Impervious [6]) [7PP] To this: Impervious Toughness 6 [6PP] This frees up 1PP inside the Device. It will go into Create Object, to purchase the Precise power feat. Thus: Energy Manipulation 6 (12PP Array, Feats: Alternate Power) (Fires of Creation) [14PP] Base Power: Create Object 5 (5 cubes, Toughness +5, Lifting Strength 25 [Heavy Load: 800 lbs.], 10 50ft Range Increments / 500ft Max Range, Feats: Precise, Progression 1 [10ft cubes], Tether) [13PP] 3PP left. Befitting his concept as a sort of Green Lantern expy, he needs more Will Save. 2PP into Base Will Save. Thus: Saving Throws: 3 + 3 + 6 = 12PP Will: +7 (+1 Wis, +6) Spending the last PP on Skills, raising his Notice (he needs better notice for patrols!): Skills: 60R = 15PP Notice 10 (+11) 0PP left. Now for Complications: Removed the following ones: Fish Out of Water: Corbin has gone through 2 moves in the last year. He has no long-term relationships in Freedom City, let alone Claremont. As well, his recent entry into Claremont Academy marks him as "The New Guy". Fresh Hero: Cobalt Templar is just starting his heroic career, having only ventured out a couple of time to foil a few relatively minor crimes. His ties to Claremont mean he cannot go solo heroing anytime he wants. Power Uncertainty: Corbin is not entirely sure on the true origins of his powers; the ring's engravings do not give anything more than vague hints. He knows what it does, but not everything that it can do. Add the following: You Must Know No Fear!: Corbin's powers (or the ones still granted directly from the ring) tend to have serious troubles when he's experiencing serious amounts of fear (such as from the powers of a villain). Often, they work with less effectiveness, or stop working entirely. The Fires of Hell Shall Not Prevail: Beings which channel the energies from the deepest pits of Hell (or similar places and energies) tend to have a better chance of hurting Cobalt Templar, despite his not-insignificant protections. Finally, a small flavor change, as it were; Corbin gains another inch, and another 10 pounds: Height: 6'5" Weight: 230 lbs. And finally... Fenris Drawbacks: -4PP Normal Identity (Full Action to don suit, Frequency: Common, Intensity: Major) [-4PP] 4PP left. Right, now we're gonna add some new powers. These aren't Linked or anything, but they're thematically part of the same "package", that of a nanotech upgrade: Datalink 1 (Radio, 10ft) (Technology) [1PP] ("Transmitter Nanites") Regeneration 3 (Recovery Rate 3: Bruised [No Action]) [3PP] ("Medical Nanites") 0PP Left. "It'll hold it long enough, at least." Gabriel took a few steps forward, the hum around his body shifting its pitch, hitting a lower, yet faster note that seemed altogether just as, if not more, dangerous than when he stepped into the building. He planted his feet wide and took a moment to line up his aim, supporting one arm with the other. When he released that pent-up energy, it lashed against the snowy hide of the unearthly creature, attempting to shake apart the very things that kept it strong. "Blasted Faerie! You should have stayed where you were! You and your masters! You shall not prey upon the innocent without consequence!" He turned to look at the others. "That should soften it up, now go in for the knockout!"
-
Gabriel's not in a "play nice" mood right now. Free action to switch array to Drain Toughness Ranged (since it's held in place anyways!). Let's see... So, down an HP, but I hit the thing. DC 22 Fort Save, Rank 12 Drain Toughness.

"I'm relieved to hear I'm shouldering no blame. I figured you worked for one agency or another, what with all this stuff going on." Corbin didn't let the full measure of his relief shine through. They didn't harbor any suspicion about his other identity. Which was good. Of course, things weren't done with yet... "Well. I'll do what I can. I can't say I'm your best, first choice. I mean, I'm just a teenager. But I'll do everything I can. We should be safe down here, right? I mean, he's got those metal doors up top, and then these big metal doors. No worries, right?"
-
"Tower?" The confusion in Gabriel's voice was evident, but there was no time to worry about it, as the men started to move away. He snapped off a somewhat sloppier salute of his own. "Go with God, Tarquin, and may Saint Michael the Archangel watch over you and yours." He waited until they were gone to speak again. "Seems so. Bit of a shame; wouldn't have minded landing in the lap of a pretty girl on one of these "wacky adventures". At any rate..." He squinted a bit, clearly plotting something out in his head. "While you're pretty fast, doubt you can keep up with me. So. I'll go in first, distract the big scary mage guy with words. And maybe some sonic energy to the head. Meanwhile, you follow and break up any goons trying to do me in. If we've got breather room, you hit him from one side or the other. Sound good?"

Murder on the Victorian Express (IC)
KnightDisciple replied to Supercape's topic in The Realms Beyond
"Two hunters, and another inventor. Hm. Still leaves the two in the next carriage over. Would Sir Crane have met peacefully with any of those three? I mean, I'm not saying they're innocent. But we should examine every possible angle." He thought over the situation for a bit. "Miss Wells, would you perhaps require assistance with the equipment back here? I admit I'm not quite as good at spotting clues and the like, but I've got a head for machines. Jubatus, feel free to come get me if you feel you need my services." He mulls it over for a moment. "Then again, I might have a better shot talking to Mr. Donald Drumbridge. Perhaps I could focus on him? Whichever method everyone thinks might be most fruitful." -
Cobalt Templar would definitely be willing to help rescue a Claremont student (even Daisy Gibbons). Beyond that, he'd want to help Sage (who is basically going to be his co-leader in next year's Young Freedom). Perhaps he all but forces his way into the group, for a chance to help a fellow Claremont-er? And/or, he's pulled in as brawn to Sage's brains.

Baron Magnus smiled at Supercape's opinion of his offhand remark. "Just trying to be polite to a fellow sentient being. It's a skill I'm still polishing here and there, you know." At Supercape's talk of everyone working to save the world, he smiled broadly. "That's the spirit! More ideas, more competition, more solutions, I say! Why have one option, when you can have five? Keeps everything interesting, and like I said before, it helps make sure everyone wins!" He shakes his head ruefully. "I'm glad you don't see me as some sort of devil incarnate; so many people these days seem to rage against corporations, while shamelessly consuming what we make. It's nice to see people at least acknowledge how some of us try to help the world while we're at it!"
-
"Tarquin. Glad to work with you." He stood there for several moments, clearly thinking hard on the situation. "I'm no general, not even a soldier proper, but-" He was cut off as Push arrived on-scene. He saw the hostile reactions by the warriors, and raised his hands in a warding gesture. While it took him a moment to put a costume to a name, he already had a pretty good idea of who it was. After a moment, he recalled hearing about a hero named "Push" who wielded a hammer and lots of kinetic energy. The same hammer "Mr. Stone" had used against the demon in that sleepy little town. Looked to be the same powers, too. Wasn't hard to put 1 and 1 together to get 2. "Hey, easy now. This guy's a friend. We've worked together before. He helped fight a bonafide demon once. He'll be a good guy to have at our side. As for your plan, I like it. I bet we can buzz over there and take them out." He turns and gives Tarquin an apologetic look. "Sadly, I can't carry you or any of your men with me; just don't quite have the upper-body strength. Would you be alright with staying here and holding the line? I'm thinking I could move in first, as I'm probably a touch faster than Push here. While I've got their leader on the ropes, Push busts in and either keeps the beastmen off my back, or helps put down the sorcerer faster."
