Murder on the Victorian Express (IC)
KnightDisciple replied to Supercape's topic in The Realms Beyond
Fenris turned and regarded Carrie for several long moments. "And what if I don't agree about the need to take off my armor? After all, we're looking for one or more persons willing to kill, and I rather like the extra security my armor gives me." -
Katastroff grinned. "It's more than "technically possible". It's possible. Though you're right, in a sense. A lot of the initial calculations, test modeling, and engineering isn't easy. But past a couple of key points...well, every road of research has speed bumps, doesn't it?" The Baron's tone suggests that he's speaking of something more solid than a theoretical concept.
-
Corbin couldn't help but chuckle at Vicky's reason for going. "I suppose it could have been worse damage. Considering how much power some of us sling around sometimes, a couple busted windows sounds like nothing in comparison. So no big. I'll just guide both of you, and I'm betting Morgan will come along as well." He gave a grin at the other young man in the room, the one who was a bit distracted by the young ladies with them. "So, off we go then." With that, Corbin started walking down the hall, keeping his pace slowed enough the others should have no issues keeping up with him.
-
The Baron glances at Supercape, his expression unreadable. "Perhaps eventually I'll have a project I don't mind bringing here. But I'm worried enough about patent infringement that I'm not going to move the bulk of my company's work here. I'm in this both to change the world, and make money. So far, I'm doing pretty well at balancing both goals." He turned to Protectron, a slight grin on his face as the android talked of Miss Americana's ideas, and inquired as to what alternative power sources he was researching. "I realize Miss Americana's goals include, essentially, giving people mechanical superpowers. I'm...more wary about the concept. Suffice to say that, while I want to give people the most lifelike replacements possible, I don't want to suddenly give a 10-year-old boy a laser cannon in his arm, or some such. My concern truly goes down to a sense of responsibility; right now, "super-science" is confined to a fairly small number of people in the superhero and supervillain communities. Thankfully the former outnumber the latter. But if you suddenly give everyone the chance to have superhuman abilities...well, suffice to say, in my mind it's a worrying proposition at this stage in our history. But that's a philosophical debate for another time, I'd say. As for alternative energy... We do have a subdivision dedicated to biofuel and other options to replace gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, and other such products. There are a few hurdles with making current electric designs universally owned, so biofuels are a good "stopgap" for the next few decades. And unlike the current ethanol formulas, our research looks to improve car efficiency, take less energy to produce than regular gas, and runs even cleaner. Solar and wind are nice, but don't have the sheer capacity we desire. Tidal and geothermal are just too dependent on location to become universal. No, our big project is something else entirely. Our goal right now is refining the various models, to go from the sort that power a car, to ones for individual homes, to ones for cities and countries." He pauses, clearly considering how much to say. "I ask the utmost discretion from both of you on this, even with the broad concept I'm about to speak. If I hear anyone else speaking about this, I will be rather displeased." His gaze lingered fairly equally on both of them; both Supercape and Protectron seemed rather...chatty. "Our ultimate goal is to power the world with vacuum energy."

Fenris frowned, at least inside his armor. The outside remained impassive. 'I need to figure out how to make this thing show expressions...not important right now!' He shifted his stance a bit, his body language making it clear he wasn't a fan of Jubatus's attitude towards Ms. Wells. "I'm Fenris. Now, as for you giving her the nth degree about this: back off. It's obvious we're in a non-standard situation. So her bringing us here isn't so shocking. I'm a bit flattered she trusts me on this, myself. Besides, sounds like we've got industrial espionage going on. And if this friend of hers has anything like her car here, this might be more serious than it sounds." He gave the time-traveling car a long, contemplative glance. -
Going to be doing these edits in different posts this time around. Or at least 2 posts; this one and another. Anyways. Gabriel has 4 PP to spend. He's technically PL13, but for now we'll leave that be. I think we'll be spending all the ranks in feats this time around. First off, he's going to purchase the following feat: Skill Mastery (Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Information, Intimidate) 3PP left. Next, we'll purchase 1 more ranks of Dodge Focus, making that entry like so: Dodge Focus 2 Which, incidentally, makes the following change: Defense: +12 (+10 Base, +2 Dodge Focus), +5 Flat-Footed 2PP left. Next, we will buy another rank of Defensive Roll, such that: Defensive Roll 4 (+8 Toughness) Concurrently, that means: Toughness: +12 (+3 Con, +8 Defensive Roll, +1 Leather Jacket), +4 Flat-Footed That changes: Feats: 19PP 1PP left. Finally, I'll put 1 more point into his Base Will Save, thus: Will: +11 (+2 Wis, +9 Base) Saving Throws: 5 + 6 + 9 = 20PP All PP spent. Doktor'd

Gabriel actually smirked. Oh, sure, none of the troll-things were down yet, but perhaps they didn't realize just who they were dealing with. "Foul beasts! Feel now the full measure of righteous anger! Feel now the power that protects the innocent from your clutches!" Again, a barrage of sound lashed down at the beasts, seeking to weaken their skin, their muscle, their entire bodies such that they would be even more vulnerable to Tarquin's blade...and Gabriel's cries. "Strike yet again, brave warrior!" Closing his eyes for a brief moment, the air seemed to shift around Gabriel as he concentrated, took a deep breath... And let out a huge, wordless cry just as his eyes shot open. To Tarquin's ears, it was an unusually deep-pitched yell from the man. But he would likely be able to see the sound rippling the air and crashing against the beasts like water on rocks.

"I can show you, Janis. Vicky, you can come, but if you feel like cleaning your room up, that works too. My schedule's pretty loose, and I've been there a few times. All cordial visits, mind you. As for workouts, I'll probably see you guys in there sometimes. I do a fair number of training sessions in the simulator these days. After some of the fights I've been in, it's been nice to hone the edge, you know?" Then the weight figure Vicky gave actually registered, and he gave an impressed whistle. "A half-ton? No joke? That's pretty good no matter who you are. Being a super-strong teleporter sounds like you can lay on the hurting." He straightens up from his perch against the wall, his hand making sure the door barely moves as the blue doorstop dissolves into air. He steps to one side and waits for Janis to step out and head towards the offices.
-
Fenris, being within sight of things, will Teleport on top of the car if possible, and near or next to it if that is not possible. Anyways, init. Fenris goes on a 16. TT, let me know if I can do rooftop landing or not, and I'll do a quick IC post to have him arrive at the car.

First things first: I'm keeping my Drain Toughness 12 going. Drain Toughness 12 (Area: Shapeable). Reflex DC 22 for half effect, DC 22 Fortitude save against a Rank 12 Drain Toughness, to refresh memories. Still aimed to hit all of those dudes. Missing Tarquin, naturally. Edit: I'm feeling bold, and I've got 3 Hero Points. After that Drain attack, I'm going to spend another Hero Point and stunt a new power off my array: Damage 12 (Area: Shapeable). Reflex DC 22 for half, Toughness DC 27, or 21 if they make the Reflex (pretty sure that's how that works out). Then, I'll use Extra Effort, get another attack, and shape the blast in the same manner, and hit them all. :D

"Nick seems to have the containment well in hand. Let me give that another try." Shifting his stance slightly, Corbin brought the chainsword sweeping up at an angle, going from the creature's left hip to right shoulder, the teeth buzzing like a mechanical swarm of bees. His face had disappeared under a mostly-opaque plate; clearly he anticipated a bit of mess. "Eat chainsword!"
-
Hm. I think Corbin will let Nick do the grabbing, and he'll do the slicing. All Out Attack, +2 Attack -2 Defense. So +11 Attack total. Booyah! 30! Almost a crit, too! DC24 Toughness Save. Chainsword, vroom-vroom!
-
Corbin smiles a bit. "I apologize for snapping at you. I just really like Quo-Dis, and she's had some trouble from a small but notable element of the student body." He quirked an eyebrow at her comments on her energy. "Instead of trying to ignore it, maybe find ways to channel it? I mean, you're an electricity controller. In my mind, it makes sense you'd be full of energy a lot. Find a few things you like, and go after them. Burn up some of that extra energy. At any rate, you'll be fine. Your friends are here to help, after all."
-
"I've been going out with Quo-Dis for several months now. There have been moments brought on by cultural differences, but in the end, we both feel it's completely, utterly worth it. She's...she's something else." At first, his face had worn a slightly irritated expression, likely brought on by Janis calling his girlfriend "the alien". But as he pondered the relationship he had with the girl, his eyes grew distant and his mouth split into a smile. After about 30 seconds of slightly awkward silence, he shook his head slightly and refocused on the conversation at hand. "Touring the campus? I think Crow and I can give you some help there. Between the two of us we can point out all the sights to be seen."
-
*In the Elevator* Corbin shrugs at Janis's comment about stability. "Well, give it some time; who knows, maybe you'll get more precise control soon enough. I sort of "cheated", since the ring's almost "pre-programmed". If I were to be going from the ground up, I'd be in the same boat as you. That's what practice is for, one way or another." *At the Room* Corbin took a glance at the room, standing in the doorway. A small blue wedge that hadn't been there before kept the door propped open. "Not bad. They make pretty good dorm rooms here, when all is said and done." Corbin smirked a bit at Janis's question. "Well, I've got all my homework done. I was originally planning to do a bit more drawing, maybe read a bit, and then spend time with Quo-Dis. We've, ah, been busy these last couple of weeks. We need to...catch up on things."

Cobalt Templar was a little annoyed at his suggestion being ignored, but hey, Warlock was the expert here. "I guess the important thing is that-AH!" He took a couple steps back, eyes widened in surprise, before actually snarling a bit and stepping forward, to within striking distance. As he did so, a peculiar sword mainfested from the ever-present blue flames. He brought it above his head and then down upon the creature, hoping to strike a punishing blow on its undead flesh. "Agh! Bad zombie! Go away!"
-
Sorry for the delay! Kind of missed the call for init... Init: 24. Irony, I go first. Hm. Let's go with a Strike. 8-) Attack Roll, Strike: 21. I'm figuring that probably hits. DC 24 Toughness save.
-
Cobalt Templar calmly stands his ground as the dynamite goes off, letting the explosion and shrapnel crash against the bulwark of his incredibly tough skin, and the glowing armor of his ring! When it was over, he shifted the aim of his ethereal weapon to point at the cartoon man who had thrown the dynamite. He raised it to his shoulder, sighting down the barrel a bit. "You fellas had your last chance. The headache you're gonna have tomorrow is your own dang fault." With that, he fired a short burst of not-quite-bullets, which would feel like high-powered fists crashing against the toon-man! "Mercury, the boss, if you please. Wander, help us make sure they don't get away."
-
Hm. Three guys...I guess I'll aim for Mr. Dynamite Thrower. Attack Roll for Blast: 22 Assuming that hits, that'll be a DC 24 Toughness Save.
-
Corbin smirked and drawled out his next words, adding just a hint of a more Southern accent, as opposed to his typical General American. "Janis, I dare say no one would ever call you "fragile", and I've just met you." He shook his head, and his speech shifted back to its typical patterns. "I'm just sticking with the rest of you all. I figure it would be more rude to just stop and wait downstairs. Isn't against the rules or anything, since it's not the dead of night. Anyways, yeah. The ring's magic. Old magic. I've yet to precisely determine from who or where, though i have some ideas and leads. Basically, it makes whatever I want it to make." He holds his hand out, concentrating, before what looks like a simple mug appears. "Still working on making stuff more complicated..."

*Effective Immediately* I am, starting today (Friday, 4/6) on-call for my job. There's no predicting how busy that will leave me nights and weekends. If I don't post a bunch, sorry, but that's life. Also, while I won't be on-call next Friday, I will be going to a Dinner Theater for my youngest brother. So, I'll be in late that night to post. Just FYI for the next week-ish.

Fenris listened to Blueshift recite the address. Frowning inside his helmet, he stepped over to one of the mostly-intact computers, took a moment to look up the address, then nodded. "I'll meet everyone there." As the others began their travels, he spent a few more moments considering his best path. It was right about then that Cannonade walked over and asked where their target was. "I managed to pull up a map; it's over here. Take a sec and figure out how you want to get there. I'm gonna run over there myself right now. I'll wait for everyone else to get there." With that, the armored man walked into one of the clearer, flatter pieces of ground, hunched himself down into an improvised sprinter's starting stance... And disappeared in a flash of light almost as soon as he was running forward. Whereas before, his "exit" had been within visual range, this time no one nearby could see or hear him popping up further away. There was only a sense of rapidly-retreating movement to herald his exit. **** Less than half a minute later, Fenris was only a couple of blocks away from the indicated Holiday Inn. He'd perched himself on one of the taller buildings around there, hoping to either see Otaku escaping, or see the others coming in to catch him.
-
Fenris chuckled and shook his head. "I've seen five-year-old kids on a sugar high who think slower. Point is, I don't know all magic's rules yet, so I don't trust it. Maybe that will change one day. Time will tell." At her further inquiry about "aliens", he stiffens a bit. "Already said I'm not talking about it. I've got my reasons. Think that's my cue to leave. Have a nice day, Blueshift." He turned and disappeared in a flash of light. Blueshift might see another couple of flashes a few blocks away, before even those were out of sight.

Let's see... Reflex: 17. Eh. Toughness: 20. Ew. No. Hero Point to reroll that one. Toughness: 17, but with the HP reroll, that becomes 27. And lastly... Initiative: 23. So...quite possibly going first, then.

Corbin rolled his eyes at the antics of the others, especially Morgan. He waited until the girls were inside to walk in himself, like a gentleman. He grinned and threw an arm around Morgan's shoulders as he walked inside, dragging his fellow student along. "Come on Casanova, they're waiting on us." He hustled over to the elevator, making sure Vicky didn't hold her foot in the way too long. "Sorry about that. Anyways. Didn't realize you were into art, Vicky. Guess I haven't seen you in art class." He shrugged as he tried not to take up half the elevator (no mean feat for someone with his frame). "Plenty of on-campus sports here, Janis. No stuff with other schools, though. Wouldn't be entirely fair. As for being absent minded, the occasional room inspections help with that. Maybe set up a calendar, or a rotation, or something?" He shrugged, idly rolling a disc of blue fire back and forth across the knuckles of his right hand, as if it were a coin.
