Fair enough. I'm just trying to note the expenditure ahead of time, so that we don't forget about it.

Corbin had the grace to give an embarrassed chuckle as Janis referred to him as "other guy", realizing he hadn't given his name. "Sorry about that. My name is-" Then Vicky poofed onto the scene, and called him by name. "Corbin. Like Vicky said, name's Corbin. And I shudder to think what life will be like with two energetic teleporters living in the same room." He raised an eyebrow at the byplay between the girls, and rolled his eyes a bit at their "flirting". As they started to walk off, he went over to Morgan and patted him on the shoulder. "Come on. We should probably make sure they don't blow something up. Maybe give them the 5 dollar tour while we're at it." He suddenly winked and nudged Morgan in the ribs (gently!) before starting to walk off. His next words carried over his shoulders, the smirk evident in his tone. "Besides, with two of them there, and me being unavailable, it'll double your chances!"

Corbin blinked, and raised an eyebrow. "I figure things are a bit unique, since you're joining us mid-semester, but weren't you assigned a dorm room? I know where the buildings themselves are, but I don't have a clue which room would be yours. Come on, I'm sure the front office has that. They might have other paperwork for you, too." He motions for her to follow, and he walks quickly back in the direction she came. But instead of walking off the school grounds, he guides her towards the front office. Presumably, everything's been arranged for her already.

Janis might be surprised to notice a young man sitting on a tree branch, casually writing in a notebook as a textbook floated in the air in front of him. Even more shocking, it almost looked like the book was on fire! But further study revealed the blue flames rolling over its surface didn't so much as darken the pages a bit. It seemed he was studying, just in a rather unique way. It was only moments after she noticed him that he returned the favor. An expression of curiosity on his face, he tucked the notebook into the backpack beside him while the book flew itself into the same receptacle. He grabbed it and jumped from the branch, floating slowly to the ground. Walking over to her, there was a friendly smile on his face as he extended his right hand. "Hello. Welcome to Claremont! My name's Corbin; can I help you with anything around here?"

Only one spear hits. So, 1 DC 22 Toughness Save. Toughness: 26. Totally made it.

Cobalt Templar scowled at the cartoonish villains in front of him. Blue flames flickered around his body for a few moments, before an ethereal blue Browning Automatic Rifle appears in his hands. It's not yet pointed directly at the goons, but he's clearly ready to do so at a moment's notice. He sends a quick whisper to the others. "Don't worry, just a fancy shell for my ring's power; it won't hurt them permanently. Just going with the theme here." Then he raises his volume, injecting as much authority into his words as possible. "Halt! You're under arrest. Put your weapons on the floor, step away from the elevator, and we can go about this calmly."

"These monsters threaten the helpless. They crave destruction. I need no other reason to stand against them." Suddenly, his left hand flung towards the creatures; there was a sudden loud sound. The man next to Gabriel would hear what sounded like a clap of thunder from just a couple miles away. To the monsters, it was as if the thunder was within their very ears! "Now, foul beasts, you shall feel the true measure of righteous wrath!" Gabriel floated above the (hopefully) disoriented creatures, focusing himself for a moment...before unleashing a terrible wave of sonic energy down upon them! It twisted and dug its way into their hides, seeking to make them as vulnerable as crippled lambs. "Strike now, brave warrior! Their defenses should be lessened!"

Hokay, so. With Luck 4, that's 5 Hero Points to start with. Standard Action: Using my Dazzle 12 (Audio Senses; Extras: Area [General, Burst, 55ft radius]). First, Reflex Save DC 22 for all of them, to determine if they get half or full effect. Another DC 22 Reflex, to see if they actually take the Dazzle effect. If any/all fail that, they'll make subsequent Fort saves, DC 22, with a +1 each round, to get hearing back. Note: this only affects hearing. Move Action: Float high enough into the air that my next power has no excess cubes left. At 10mph (my Flight when not using my array), I can move up to 100 feet. This should prove sufficient. Free Action: Spend an HP to switch my Sonic Control Array to a stunted power: Drain Toughness 12 (Area: Shapeable). Reflex DC 22 for half effect, DC 22 Fortitude save against a Rank 12 Drain Toughness. Extra Effort: Surge: Standard Action: Use the above Drain Toughness power stunt. Spend an HP to negate negative effects of Extra Effort. This ends my turn, and leaves me with 3 Hero Points.

Gabriel managed a soft landing, despite the rather haphazard nature of his transport here. Being able to fly had some distinct advantages. He gazed around the battlefield, his eyes narrowing as he observed the monsters. He glanced at the wounded men arrayed around him, and took several steps forward. He spoke to them without taking his eyes off the monsters that approached. "Anyone who can move, help the rest. I'll keep these...things...from getting to you. Please move quickly." Finally, he was past the cluster of misery, and on empty ground. The grass at his feet flattened out as a barely-audible *thrum* slowly went out from his person, and he rose into the air, his hands distorted beneath concentrated sonic energy. "You have one chance. Whoever, or whatever, you are: Leave now. Quit this battlefield. Or you will regret your actions dearly."

An angel, a bear, a red giant, a giant amazon, and...uh, Push. Sounds like a fine group to me! :D

Cobalt Templar sighed at Mercury's actions, but it wasn't something he could do anything about. 'Isn't trust important in a team like this? Guess we have something to work on later.' he thought to himself. CT dropped the rest of the way himself, his aura flaring a bit just before he landed, making it feather-soft. "Glad you're alright, sir. Probably a good idea to call the police, even if we're heading inside." He frowned as the condition of the gate, and the guard's words, coalesced in his mind. "How big would you say the car was?" He shook his head suddenly. "Actually, sorry. We need to move if they're going in that fast. I'll lead the way. Mercury, stick between Wander and myself. If nothing else, I can draw their fire better out front." With that, he floated into the garage at speeds just below a fast jog, slowing a bit to make sure the other caught up with him.

And Gabriel's voice!

Cobalt Templar had almost missed the car. Well, more accurately, he'd almost missed what it just did. He'd seen it on the road, and admired such a classic car. It wasn't every day you saw a Model T on the road. It also wasn't every day you saw one involved in a two-fold crime; breaking and entering, and risking serious damage to such a piece of automotive history! Immediately they began to lose altitude. "Mercury, Wander, get ready to jump out once we're at ground level. I'm gonna move quick; I want to stop them before they get too far into the building. Hang on tight!" Suddenly, they were dropping at something approaching 100 miles an hour. The ground raced towards them...before things suddenly slowed down, with the group only a couple stories above ground level now...

New 4-minute long Green Lantern trailer up here. It's a definite improvement, and definitely makes it seem like the conflict and risk is bigger.

*Facepalm* Okay, that's a "my bad", I forgot Jubes was a speed-oriented character; I looked at feats and nothing else.

DONE BY SHAENTHEBRAIN Just realized, CT's sheet isn't quite adding up. Looks like my most recent power additions didn't get added into his overall Toughness and Attack scores. Due to adding Protection 1 inside the Ring, the following would be his Toughness Entry: Toughness: +12 (+4 Con, +8 Protection; Impervious 6); +11 without Ring; +3 without Powers As for Attack: Attack: +9 (+6 Enhanced Attack, +3 Base); +3 without Ring That should do it until PP awards come around. Let's see here... Notice: 13. It sure is an unlucky number this time!

More basic problem, Cubist. You can't just suddenly take 20 on a Knowledge check. You don't have a feat or power that lets you make that check at a 20 for no extra time, so you don't get to be special. Rules say taking 20 takes 1 hour, it takes 1 hour. You can make an immediate action check, but it's a d20 roll. You know how you represent him having oodles of knowledge? Invest points in the skill. So that even a Natural 1 (which is not an auto-fail for skills) gets you a 15, 20, or whatever. But unless you invest PP into, you can't Take 20 on a Knowledge check in 2 seconds.

Cobalt Templar thought for a moment, then nodded. "Right then. We'll do a rough zig-zag, starting here and working our way across. Keep your eyes peeled and ears open. Just let me get the platform up and running..." He walked out onto the thin air, then concentrated a moment. Slowly, ethereal blue flames flowed out of his ring, eventually becoming a crude sled-like platform, with two seats, a "railing", and some handholds and footholds. Nothing fancy, but it meant they should be able to sit in moderate comfort, and better security. Cobalt Templar gave a nod, then gestured for his companions to hop on. "Don't worry. It won't hurt you at all. Not quite a luxury airline, but it should do the trick. If you fall off, yell really loud, and I'll get you soon enough. Now, let's ride!" As soon as Wander and Mercury were on board, CT took off, the platform keeping pace with him easily. He moved along at about 40-50 miles an hour; fast enough the general patrol pattern ought to be just a few hours, but slow enough to spot trouble.

Murder on the Victorian Express (IC)

Fenris had simply been enjoying the trip. The dimensional travel seemed like what he did when he moved fast...except it was taken to the extreme. They weren't just sliding in the space between space, they were moving in the space between universes! And while bumpy, the landing was still impressive. After all, they'd hit a train moving along at no small pace, on a mountain pass it seemed! "I have to say, Ms. Wells, this is a most impressive piece of machinery. If we have a chance later, I truly would like to discuss its workings with you." He carefully climbed out of the machine, minding his own notable bulk as he did so. He stepped back to let the two ladies assist the cheetah-man, simply watching the process with open curiosity. -

Question: Are these portals ones that only change your placement in time (putting aside the automatic space adjustment so we're not floating in space since Earth has moved on)? That is, if Gabriel enters one in modern-day Freedom City, and it goes back 500 years, can he only ever be in Freedom City, or could it plop him down 500 years ago in, say, Ireland? Or wherever? -
Murder on the Victorian Express (IC)

Fenris kept an eye on the crowd as he flashed back over to the two conversing ladies. "Please ma'am, call me Fenris. I don't know if I'm "dashing", and begging your pardon, but I'm not "her knight". I'm no one's but my own, if you see where I'm going with this. That said, I'd be happy to help." He eyed her vehicle, trying to spot a good place to put his rather large frame. "Don't think I'll get sick; sounds like it shouldn't feel much different than what I do pretty regularly in this thing. At least so far as physical reactions go. Um. I'll sit in the back, if that's okay." With that, he slowly began trying to place himself in the contraption, careful not to catch his armor on any of the gear sticking out all over. -
The Baron let a thoughtful look cross his face as he seemed to stare off into space; when he started to speak, it was like he was reading from a presentation, or a book. "As far as more classical prosthetic devices go, our goal is to produce ones that are so close to the original function of the patient that they have minimal adjustment time. While I understand that some individuals think it's an opportunity to grant people greater abilities than before, in my mind it has the hangup of greater physical therapy investment. Whereas something that works exactly like your old limb, feels like it, responds like it...it could greatly ease the trauma of a lost limb, and help them recover faster mentally as well as physically. Connected to that, we're doing research into mechanical and bio-mechanical replacement organs. The goal is to produce replacements that can be inserted with no wait time, and with the smallest chance of rejection as possible. At worst, our goal would be to produce a sort of "stopgap" until the patient could acquire a fully organic component. Broader still, one of our most recent large-scale projects has been alternative energy. The sort that might require some decent initial investment, but has almost zero upkeep, and either zero or near-zero cost for fuel and the like. As well as being totally clean and harmless to users and the environment. Even better, most of our concepts are vastly safer to produce and deploy than current widespread methods. Most of my family's vehicles run on one sort of prototype or another."

Fenris, having seen the ARACHNE was well and truly down, helped Ironclad lead the technicians away from the combat zone. When the discussion of "weak points" came up, he couldn't help but speak up as well. "Cannonade was the one who did the deed, but I'd wager our hits contributed as well. I don't know about you, Ironclad, but I kind of designed these claws to cut through a lot of stuff. No offense, Grayston, but when we all piled on like that, with Otaku still taking his time to get a feel for the thing, I doubt its chances were good. Honestly, it held up much better than I would have thought, even against my claws. Don't know what sort of benchmark that sets for you, I suppose."

Fenris gives Blueshift a nod at her point regarding "someone better". "True enough; it's hard to say what principles may ultimately be at work. I can see where you're coming from, though obviously we're looping back to Clarke's Law here. One way or another, doesn't mean I have to like how a lot of the practitioners go about doing things. And there's always someone who knows "more than me". It's pretty much a law of the universe, even if you're a data-lover." At her question, he went stiff and still again. "Not something I'd like to talk about, thank you kindly."
