  2. Micah had been up against the couch while he'd been talking to Leroy, thanks to his initial blunder of super-speed trying to catch Mia. When the girls had filtered out, he'd instinctively sat down on the couch. Which meant that Judy was suddenly the one sitting next to him. And while she radiated a bit more warmth than most folks, he was still acutely aware of how close she was to him. He stiffened a bit, subtle for the other teens but probably rather visible to Ashley, and potentially the Father. Then he tried to carefully add just a touch of distance between himself and the young lady who was (nominally) engaged to the other man in the room. "You know, it's, ah, really kind of interesting how they did these sorts of scenes. Back then. What with no CGI. I'm kind of a gear-head but this sort of hands-on thing is, ah, cool. Yeah." He lapsed into quiet for a bit, and continued to watch. When Judah saved not only his fellow slaves, but the captain of the ship, his face cycled through a few emotions. "Not sure I could have done that. My dad, and grandad, always said forgiveness is important. He'd know, I guess. But that...that's more than the sort of thing I have to forgive people over. And I have enough problems forgiving stupid kids over stupid words."
  3. Micah walked in behind Eira and Astrid, giving them a bit of space and getting his breathing all the way back to normal. When they entered the room, he took a look around before his eyes settled on a somewhat beat-up guitar over to one side. It wasn't his own instrument, but it was clearly well-loved and well-maintained. With a nod to the ladies, the Oklahoman went over and picked it up. It was an acoustic design, but looking closer he realized it was a steel-string flat-top model. It would sound a bit different than what he was used to, but maybe that was a good thing. Micah spent a couple of minutes quietly tweaking the guitar, tuning and testing the strings until they were just so. He was in no rush, regardless of the patience of the ladies in attendance. Finally, he settled back a bit and started to play a tune...
  4. Micah stepped in between Alice and the others, his face a deep frown. The sky darkened once again, and was accented with faint rumbles. "D...don't shoo....shoot her. Don't shoot her, Ashley." His eyes glowed a bit. He seemed to be almost struggling to speak instead of just act. "Are you...trying to say I should just keep being single? Not all of us guys are...party animals or exotic princes. We struggle to be...be noticed. And when someone notices me, and likes me, and tells me they like me...suddenly that's bad?" His face twisted, now almost a snarl. "So I don't get to be happy no matter what, is that it?" And then Elizabeth's words hit him. He blinked, and looked around himself. He looked up, and then back at Alice. "Alice. Step...step back. We're going to back out. This...this is not a place for a fight. We should go outside. I'll keep you safe."
  5. Micah winced as Octoman literally threw the rhino at Goanna. He'd used force against the animals, but by and large he'd tried to do so cautiously. Still, the mammalian tank looked to be okay, if not perfect. No other creatures appeared to be on the rampage. That left one visible target. Thunderbird's gaze lifted from the downed rhino to the reptilian villain. Behind his goggles, his eyes narrowed. The sky darkened above him as he moved through the air, almost lazily, even as green wings of lightning-fire flapped behind him. "You. You helped do this. You put children in danger. You used these animals." He raised his hands, and the entire length of his arms were covered in crackling electricity. Thunderbird hovered above the villain, and his face twisted in anger, shrugging off the calming voice in the back of his mind that sounded like Danica. "It stops now. I won't let you threaten anyone else!" Once more the air cried out in pain as a bolt of lightning came down from on high, tearing through the space between hero and villain in the blink of an eye.
  6. Save Vs Calm: 18. Free Action: All Out Attack 5 (Defense Bonus is now +9, Attack is +13), and Power Attack 5 (DC for Lightning is now 32, Attack back to +8) Move Action: Move to about...45ish feet away from Goanna. So about 20 feet up and 20-30 horizontal away? Right triangles, b****es! Standard Action: Ranged attack with Lightning. 25. DC 32 Toughness Save.
  7. Micah blinked as Alice stepped a few feet away from him. His mind fought off some of the fog that had been there, the remaining tingles from when the new girl had run her hands through his hair. It took him a moment to understand the situation in front of him. "Hey!" Suddenly, the sky above was dark, and thunder cracked once, twice. "Everyone calm down! Alice, I didn't come here to start a fight. Back off, please?" He took a couple of steps toward her. He heard Elizabeth as he did, but somehow it was like cotton was in his ears. "Look, I think for some reason we're all tense. Let's just take a breath, yeah? And stop pointing...guns and glows." He shook his head, and the weather outside calmed and cleared. When he spoke again, his voice had less conviction in it. "No...I...no fighting. Please."
  8. Micah's eyes widened. "I know that was my point! I was talking about music!" He narrowed his eyes at the comment on his breath. "I play guitar, not flute, Eira. I'll be just fine. So long as you have a real guitar in there and not some weird space-age piece of metal junk."
  9. Micah's face cycled through several emotions almost at once. This was definitely not what he'd wanted. "I...look, this ain't about fightin'. Alice and I were just trying to enjoy the garden." His face darkened, just a bit. "I mean. Isn't much of your business how new she is, is it? I.." He shook his head, as if trying to clear it. "No, no. I...yeah, this...Let's just go somewhere else, Alice. The cafeteria? I'm thirsty." His eyes darted between all of the ladies present, sensing the tension, but not quite able to pick up everything.
  10. Micah raised an eyebrow and looked back and forth at the two girls. He just stood there for almost a minute before speaking. "You ladies do realize I primarily have practice playing country&western, bluegrass, folk, and some classic rock, right?" He uncrossed his arms and rolled his shoulders as he continued to speak. "I'm not just sayin' 'NO', but...I ain't really ever played metal. Heavy or otherwise. I just haven't done it, can't promise how good I'd be." He glanced at Eira before his gaze moved to Astrid; he met her eyes with just a tiny spark of mischief. "Though I will say, I have to wonder if you ladies could keep up with me..." He smiled, then froze. His eyes went wide as his face flushed. "Musically! I meant music!"
  11. Micah narrowed his eyes a bit. He seemed to be a mixture of confused, cautious, and even suspicious. "What...kind...of band? My folks told me to always read the fine print before signin' up for anything." He crossed his arms over his chest and regarded the young women in front of him. "Not sayin' I ain't gonna do it. Just...trying to make sure we're on the same page." He seemed to be fighting to keep his Oklahoman accent in check. Perhaps he'd heard rumors about Eira's...intensity.
  12. Micah was leaned over, resting his hands on his knees. He'd pretty clearly just finished running some laps, though there was no sports practice today. His outfit suggested a simple effort to get at least a bit of actual exercise into his routine. He took a few more deep breaths, then looked up and blinked. "Uh." He stood up all the way, brushed his hands off on his pants, and tried again. "Hi. Um, yes, I can. Won't say I'm an expert but I haven't heard complaints yet."
  13. "Sorry, prioritizing civilian safety. They'll be fine, I prom-whoa!" As he tried to explain himself, Micah's attention was rather abruptly drawn by the charging rhino. For just a moment, he felt only fear. Then he had an epiphany. "Right! Flying!" He took to the skies, air swirling around him and faint wings of green light forming behind him. Instead of simply flying away, Thunderbird attempted to keep the large, armored mammal's attention. "Hey, fat-butt! Over here man! Come on, that's it you pile of wrinkles! Look at me me me!" The weather controller waved his arms and legs, kept his voice as loud as possible, and tried to keep the living tank's attention. As he did so, crackling motes of energy swirled around his outstretched hands. "Okay let's see if this works!" Micah didn't like the thought of hurting the animals. But the rhino was so large, a casual misstep would kill someone. He just couldn't take the chance. So instead, he suddenly threw both hands forward, and a thick bolt of emerald lighting lashed out, aiming to hit the rhino's back.
  14. Move Action: Fly up into the air, stay in front of the rhino but out of easy reach. Free Action: Switch Array to Green Lightning Free Action: All Out Attack 5 (Defense Bonus is now +9, Attack is +13), and Power Attack 5 (DC for Lightning is now 32, Attack back to +8) Standard Action: Ranged Attack vs Rhino: 16. 15. Micah was just busy enough adjusting his case's strap over his chest that he missed the subtle tones in Alice's words. He finished up and turned to Alice with a big, dopey smile on his face. "Alright, let's go!" He didn't snub Elizabeth, but Alice drew all of his attention for several moments, as they made their way to the door to the stairwell. It wouldn't take them long to arrive at the garden. ================================== The door to the gardens swung open, and Micah walked in with an unfamiliar girl holding his hand. The young man was smiling as he talked, and had his guitar in its case and strapped to his back. "-so then she said..." He stopped mid-story as he registered that they weren't alone. His eyes went from Alice, to Ashley, to Judy, and made one more circuit like that. Ashely's training meant she saw what happened next as Micah processed the current situation. His pupils dilated slightly, his posture unconsciously shifted, and a few beads of sweat rolled down his face. A quick burst of wind slipped into the room, and the door slammed shut behind the two new arrivals. "Uh. Hi...ladies."
  16. "I mean, I guess my character speaks for itself? I can appreciate wanting to verify someone's character, in principle. It's a nasty world out there." Micah shrugged; he clearly wasn't really offended by the suggestion. He frowned at the byplay between the girls, clearly not catching everything. "...Is this, like, a Girl Talk thing? Do I need to step out for 5 and y'all hash it out?" The dope's serious. He sighed as he leaned down to finish packing up his guitar. "I appreciate the praise of my playing. Just don't want to hand..carry...huh. That's weird. I thought I left the strap in the room. I guess I'll just rig this up, hang on." He tilted his head in confusion as he pulled out a carrying strap, still oblivious to the full extent of the byplay going on next to him. He closed and latched the case, then connected the heavy-duty strap to it. It took him a moment to get the whole thing slung over his back. "How about the campus gardens? There's some weird plants that look nifty there." Girls liked flowers and plants, right?
  17. Micah sighed then shrugged. "You didn't mean anything by it. I know rumor mills can get nasty, not your fault. Not entirely sure whether I agree about 'drama' but I get the sense we mean different things by it." His playing slowed a bit as they continued to talk. His gaze unfocused for just a moment before he answered. "Well, you know how it is around here. You start playing music and eventually someone comes around who appreciates it. Alice and I are still getting to know each other. That's half the fun, right?" He seemed to ask both Alice and Elizabeth that question, a soft smile on his face. At the wonderful young lady's request for a tour, he shrugged, stopped playing, and began to pack up his guitar. "Sure. We can look around campus, there's some neat stuff here. Then maybe go grab a bite or a sip or somethin'." He stood and picked up his cased guitar by the carrying strap. "You mind if we swing by my room and drop off my guitar? I know you like my pickin' but it's a bit heavy to do too much walkin' with."
  18. Micah had forgotten about the presence of the priest for a few moments. He sent the man of the cloth a sheepish look and a shrug, before turning back to Leroy. "I...okay, I guess that sort of makes sense. It's just...you're kind of coming at it different than most folks would. It is hard to say what might have gone different. Seems to me like what she did, didn't end up helping my ancestors much, though. I probably wouldn't have been much better back then, though. Dunno." Then Leroy asked at rather fateful question. Micah froze, his eyes widening a bit. "Well. Uh. See...I guess I don't really feel like goin' into that, yet? Look, this is probably one of our better conversations, Leroy. But we're not, like, buddies. Not yet. Maybe one day. But not yet. That kinda thing takes time."
  19. Micah grit his teeth as the...whatever it was...seemed to increase in force, despite the best efforts of his Atlantean teammate. He closed his eyes and breathed through his nose, a measure in one of his many calming exercises. 'They think this stuff's scary? They've never heard thunder on the plains!' His eyes snapped open, almost completely green with energy as the outline of wings manifested behind him. His whole body pulsed with faint tracers of energy. "I've got the gorillas." And then, in a crack of thunder, he was moving. Tracers of lightning as thin as spider webs showed his path. He raced back and forth between the raging primates, delivering a barrage of blows with such rapidity, one could be forgiven for thinking a storm had landed. His fists and feet struck dozens of times in a second as he put everything he had into trying to drive back the maddened gorillas.

  21. Micah smiled and nodded at the mention of people going inside from the music. He seemed less tense than most any time Elizabeth had seen him. "You're right! It's a free country, and if they can't appreciate good music, then that's on the-" And then she asked about Judy, and his hands froze mid-chord on the guitar. For a split second, his eyes seemed...confused. The breeze Elizabeth had felt, the refreshing touch of wind that brought life and relief, stopped. "Why would I need to tell Judy about me and Alice hanging out? Judy's just a friend, Elizabeth." He looked at Alice when he "defined the relationship" there. "She and Leroy basically got engaged at the beginning of the year. What business is it of hers who I hang out with? Who I sing with? She was trying to set me up with Mia not that long ago!" The air felt damp, and the sky was getting just a bit dark. "Way I see it, it's pretty clear where she stands. Not her business where I stand..." He turned to look at Alice's hand on his shoulder, and reached up to lay one of his on hers, giving her a weak smile. "Hey, it's okay, relax. Like I said, Judy's just a friend. That's been made clear loads of times. Nothin' else. Just take a breath, it's okay." He stiffened as she started to literally stroke her hand through his hair. His eyes widened a bit. Elizabeth could probably pick up that while he was definitely not mad at the contact, he was surprised by it. He was a teenage boy receiving thorough attention from a pretty girl, but perhaps he was a bit surprised at how...rapid...that affection was.
  22. Micah smiled at Her, and continued to play, singing softly. She was really something. It felt like he was sitting on a cloud right now, and he ought to know! He heard Elizabeth walk out and say something, bot for several moments, he didn't seem to acknowledge her. Then Alice stopped singing and greeted her. Micah blinked, noticed his fellow student, and slowed his playing while his singing trailed off. He turned and gave Elizabeth a big, beaming smile. "Hey there Elizabeth! Yeah, me and Alice were just enjoyin' the weather and the music." He laughed and blushed a bit, since both were at least somewhat under his control. "We weren't botherin' you, were we?" His accent was definitely more pronounced than usual, as limited as his interactions with Elizabeth might be on a day-to-day basis.
  23. Micah blinked as Leroy's conversation jumped all over the place. His expression remained flat, almost stony. "Okay, so...I'm sorry, what?" His voice betrayed more emotion than his face. Micah's expression shifted a bit, toward confusion, and he ran a hand over his face for a moment. "So, I explained that Mia and I aren't super-serious or whatever, that we're just here to watch a movie with you two, try to relax. I mean, I'm not saying I don't want to even be her friend or anything Leroy! I just said we're not all super-romance-committed like...like you and Judy are. And now you're jumping to declarations of rejection 'banal romance'?" He shook his head. "Right, okay, yes. That's my point, though, Leroy. You lifted up the concept of women like Nancy Ward on a pedestal and ignored the uglier truth of what she did. I'll be the first to admit white people have done a lot of nasty stuff. But just like I'd say they're not all monsters or whatever, people like the Cherokee aren't all saints. It's like you keep swinging back and forth on extremes, same as with the whole romance thing. Just...maybe moderate some, you know?" He sighed. "I'm not trying to be a jerk but you're so...you're exhausting for someone like me to be around sometimes, man. I know you're not trying to do that. I'm trying to...to...clear the air? I dunno. I'm bad at this, honestly."
  24. Micah was actually dumbstruck for several moments, his singing trailing off as his hands went limp on the guitar. He stared at the amazing young woman in front of him, and he just blinked for several long moments. "Um." It took him almost another minute to be more articulate than that, but he was able to finally stop his impression of a fish. "Yeah! I've, uh, yeah. Hang on." His hands adjusted on his instrument, and he started playing a much more lively tune. His voice rang out again, not full volume, but definitely louder, and a bit more upbeat. "Once upon a time not so long ago, Tommy used to work on the docks..." Inside his mind, a part of Micah was restless. Something felt wrong. But most of him felt so right, because finally a girl was really paying attention to him! Down below, Elizabeth would notice that the sky seemed to become even brighter and clearer than before. However, a strange breeze was picking up, just a bit. For now, it barely moved the leaves on the ground, few that they may be. But the direction didn't seem quite natural...
  25. Valentine's Day had not been one of Micah's favorite holidays....basically ever. When he was really young, it was just weird. When he started to notice girls, it became truly awkward. He'd had a few fleeting crushes in his day. Nothing serious. Now, though.... Now he found his heart still yearning for a girl who barely noticed him, engaged to a prince from another world who wouldn't know hardship if it hit him in the face. Some guys had all the luck. 'What would you say if you were sitting here with me, Dad? What do I do?' As he sat there on the rooftop he'd come to enjoy as his little hideaway, Micah picked up his guitar and strummed it a couple of times. Satisfied with his instrument's state, he began to play a tune and sing under his breath. "I try my best to hide this lowdown' feelin', I try make believe there's nothing wrong..."
