Gabriel grit his teeth as the robot teetered before the assault of his fellow heroes. One final push! He took a moment to gather sonic energy once more, and let it rip through the air, the faint sound of a roaring lion making itself known alongside the sound of a crashing wave. The beam of concentrated sound waves struck the robot like a physical blow, tearing even deeper into its superstructure. "And behold! A great thunder roared out, and mine enemy was struck by its fury!" Gabriel's voice echoed above the sound of his own attack, easily reaching the ears of Miss Americana and Shockwasp.

Too Many Questions, Too Few Answers...(IC)
KnightDisciple replied to Quinn's topic in The Waterfront
Cobalt Templar's eyes narrowed as battle was joined. No reason to sit up here gathering wool. With that thought, he let himself drop altitude until he was just inside the door to the warehouse...and within range of the same creature Push had just struck. "Time to focus fire a bit." With that, he manifested a rather beefy-looking gun and fired at the horrific golem. A short burst of searing blue shots ripped forward, striking the beast directly in the chest. -
Okay, Corbin's going to move down to where he can shoot through the doors to the warehouse. Then he's going to shoot at one of the blasted Flesh Golems with his blast. Attack Roll: 8+7=15 DC 22 Toughness save. Edit: The "multiple shots" thing in my IC post is just for flavor. It's just a straightforward blast attack.

It was only moments before they were at ground level. Erin didn't experience a gentle drop; as a point of fact, she experienced no drop at all. CT's telekinesis gently set her down, feet-first, on the ground. His TK didn't release until he was sure she had a firm footing on her own power. "Thank you, Wander...Erin. It wasn't the very first time I'd done the whole "hero thing", but it was close. Thanks for being willing to work with me on this. Are you sure you don't need a nurse or something?" As he spoke, the armored suit over his body started to turn transparent, and then crumble into the wind. Within a minute, all that was left was the blue domino mask on his face; otherwise, he was dressed in typical casual wear. The mask itself faded, revealing Corbin Hughes standing there, a look of concern on his face, his arms crossed over his chest. "You look like you're really hurting still."

Cobalt Templar nodded. He lifted his right hand, and a vague hand of blue fire slowly wrapped around Wander. It did not burn her; in fact, it was only warm, feeling like nothing so much as a car seat that had been in the sun for a couple of hours. She felt no true pressure, but instead it was as if she was wrapped in an air cushion. "I'll go about half speed. Should still get us there fairly quick." With that, he lifted off, Wander keeping pace with him about 5 feet to his right. It wasn't long before they were moving at a bit over 100 mph, with CT occasionally checking on her condition as they quickly made their way to Claremont Academy. It was just a few minutes later when he was approaching the school grounds. "Where should I land us?"

Yes. The Kabbalah ritual that went into creating them was hideously complicated, and took a fair amount of precious metals and the like. That they had no written notes means that when the head ritualist died from heart failure (due to strain at his old age) a week after completing the ritual sealed their fate as a unique set of seven. Theoretically, someone with enough ranks in Knowledge Arcane, and enough power, and the Ritualist feat, and probably one or two other things, could replicate them. If they somehow had access to one of the rings for, at minimum, decades of uninterrupted study. But really, no replication. Just 7 rings. It's not that I don't want them tied to emotions at all. Rather, I want to connect them to something more. For instance. The Leader is Determination/Pride. The Illusionist is Cunning/Fear. The Healer is Love/Obsession The Brawler is Battle Focus/Rage The Shield-Maker is Protectiveness/Greed The Mind-Scout is Compassion/Removal of Free Will The Buffer is Hope/Recklessness That's a rough draft of "Roles" and "Emotions", mind. But you get the idea. Each has a good and bad way to be implemented. Two sides of the coin, if you will.
-
Not quite. My idea is that there's just the 7. I might even change up the colors a bit, just to diversify even more from the source material. Trust me when I say that Cobalt Templar is the closest to the canon Lanterns, though my idea for the Red Ring won't be super far off.
-
Blue Ring Color: Blue Emotion/Mind-state: Determination, Willpower, Pride Intended Role: Leader, Well-Rounded Combatant, Secondary Battlefield Controller. Summary: The Blue Ring is the one originally given to the leader of the original Seven Ring-bearers (OOC: Best I've got right now). It has perhaps the most "basic" power-set, giving its wielder fairly straightforward attack options at both range and close up, as well as allow them to place barriers in the way of their enemy, move items from afar, basic protective measures, basic physical boosts, a keen sense for danger, and superior mobility. Often, the various abilities are limited more by the user than the ring itself; imagination is almost as important as determination in the usage of this ring. Powerset: In this case, I've already got a powerset built for this ring. As you can see, fairly straightforward. He can attack up close or at range, he has decent TK, and he has some skill with Create Object, though it's mainly intended for protecting civilians. The rest of the abilities are there just to make him mobile and tough, really. Eventually, he'll gain Enhanced Strength, to make him even more of a beast in combat. Potentially, he'll get two separate arrays, so that he could, in theory, maintain his Create Object with one array, and still blow stuff up with the other array. That's a bit down the road, though. Again, this ring/build/character is kind of the "Mario" of the rings; he lacks any of the more exotic abilities of his fellows, but he's just broad enough in capability to be useful in a lot of situations.

Cobalt Templar glanced at the bank...and then back at Wander. Part of him wanted to go smash the robots, so the cops took less risk. But a bigger part of him realized Wander needed to get out of there right away. He took a few steps forward. "I can carry you with my Telekinesis. Is that alright with you? I'll try to limit my speed, and keep you close at hand, just in case." His ring's glow intensified, but he seemed to refrain from actually extending a "helping hand" until Wander gave the go-ahead.

Right, so, if it's not obvious, Cobalt Templar is a pretty blatant Green Lantern expy (a merging of Kyle Rayner's general personality and such, with Alan Scott's Kingdom Come outfit, and the generally more mystical nature of his ring/powers), albeit with "blue holy fire" rather than "green hard light" as the core effect. But I got to thinking: Why stop there? Why not have parallels for all the canon DC Corps, or at least the 7 Emotional Spectrum Corps. Of course, I don't want to do straight copies. Plus, I wanted CT to be unique, to have only one such ring in existence. Which, in my mind, necessitates only one of any of the other rings. More than that, I needed a design ethos behind them. And then it occurred to me: What if all 7 were created by the same people, intended to be used by a single group of people for the same goal. Which was "protect our homeland". That group would have been a kind of elite squad in their day. Each would have a unique powerset to help them get a wider range of abilities on the field, without all of them overlapping totally with each other. As well, I want to at least partly disconnect from them being defined solely by an Emotion, and instead also connect them to a Specialization. Each will have ways it can be used by heroes....and ways it can be used by villains. Because these are, ultimately, tools. And tools can be used by anyone. At any rate...on to the magical devices! Which will be in separate posts, so that I can break this venture up a bit if need be. Table of Contents: Blue Ring Green Ring Red Ring Yellow Ring Orange? Ring Violet? Ring Indigo Ring

Gabriel nods. "That's long been a goal of mine. Unfortunately, I rarely seem to be able to find the help to strike at these bosses. And what's worse..." His hands tighten into fists, and there's a subtle sound of humming anger in the air as his coat flutters in the air, despite there not being any breeze in that moment. When he next speaks, his voice carries an odd combination of anger, determination, and...disgust? "Because it's not just humans who are leading gangs now. A couple of months ago, I worked with a group of other heroes to confront an "up and coming" protection racket. The only twist was, this racket was led by a demon from the pits of Hell. A "succubus", or something similar to the popular conception of one. It could fling unholy fire, it was supernaturally tough, could ensnare the minds of teenagers to act as its enforcers, and could even physically possess another person. We drove it back, but it wasn't seriously hindered. In the time since, I've occasionally tried to track it down, but..." He gave a frustrated shake of his head. "With all the madness going on in October, it was all I could do to keep people safe. Then I was recovering from injuries until a couple of weeks ago. I've only just managed to "catch up". But one day soon, I'm going after that demon. Because I don't intend to let its kind spread. And I intend to send a message to all the mob bosses: Even the most powerful of your kind, one literally not a mortal human, cannot stand against the forces of justice forever. Perhaps some of them will lose their will to fight. I can always hope and pray..."

Cobalt Templar lowers himself to the ground near Wander and Pax, glancing around. At Pax's question, he pauses. "Um...that's a good question. Wander, what's our standard protocol here?" He looks to the older, stronger, more experienced hero at his question. His general demeanor suggests he'd like to charge in after the robots, but he's also restraining himself until given direction by his designated "team lead".

Seeing as CT's the junior hero, and Wander told him to follow her orders/lead, I'm also going to delay, until Wander responds. ;)

Gabriel's face sets into a hard line. "Most of the gangs have one backer or another. The mafia have been trying to extend their reach in the last year or so, and it's worked, to a point. I think we're only just stopping the increase of their influence, forcing it into a plateau." He settles against another section of ledge, clearly beginning to call up memory. "Let's see...First, you've got "Big Mike", who is one of the two sources for heroin in the area. He mainly operates out of-" And so, Gabriel went about explaining 9 major crime lords who operated in the southern half of Freedom City. Some had more influence than others, but it was clear these men were movers and shakers in the realm of "normal" criminals.
-
"I tend to give the youngest criminals the benefit of the doubt, barring them having crossed one of a couple of very firm lines. But really, everyone messes up. As long as I keep that in mind, I find it easier to try helping these people, instead of just condemning and imprisoning them." Gabriel looks to his fellow hero with a curious expression on his face. "What kind of information are you wanting most? Hot spots? Biggest offenders? Most subtle? Local "supervillains"? I'm more than happy to fill you in, just tell me what you'd like to know."
-
Gabriel gave a solemn nod as they shook hands. Meanwhile, his mind raced over the various rumors he'd heard on the street about Partisan. It seemed like they were men with similar outlooks on how to approach crime, though Partisan might be a touch rougher on thugs than Gabriel himself. "Partisan. Good to meet you. I've actually heard a bit about you, now that I think about it. All good things. I think we both have similar outlooks on how to handle things around here." He swept one arm out over the visible area of Southside. He cast his own gaze upon the streets, and sadness entered his eyes and voice. "Southside's not had the best of luck for a while. But there are good people here. It's just that so many lose hope. It's worst when it's kids, who think that their only choices involve drugs and/or gangs. Too many go that route. And there are too many parasites willing to feed off those kids in one way or another." He turned to face Partisan, a smile returning to his face. "Luckily, they have heroes like you and me to help set them straight. Do you want me to give you a bit more lowdown on how things are around here these days?"

Right, I've got a name and overall costume now. Time for me to use Well-Informed! Obviously, Gather Info is my check, but I'll be targeting the Knowledge: Streetwise chart, to represent Gabriel hearing rumors on the streets and so on. Gather Information: 13+20=33. Looks like I know all of the below:
-
Toughness, DC 28 Toughness: 4+10=14
-
Right then. Reflex, DC 23... Reflex: 15+7=22 Oh come on! Curse you, Invisible Castle!

Gabriel saw Midnight arrive on his motorbike, though he didn't immediately recognize the younger hero. However, he did recognize an opening when he saw one. He quickly flew over to the robot, pausing for a split second once he was right next to it. Gathering sound around his hands for a moment, he slams his hands into the giant robot's side, sending supercharged subsonic waves through it's body, hopefully wreaking havoc on its armor plating, making it easier for his fellows to finish taking it down. "You won't be mad, you'll be scrap!" He shifted his head to gaze out at Midnight, and any other heroes visible to him. "Quick! Hit it now, it should be vulnerable!"
-
Right then. Move Action: Get up next to the Robo-Maid. As in, close enough to touch it. Free Action: Spend a Hero Point to stunt Drain Toughness as an AP off of Sonic Control. I'll go with the plain 11PP Rank 11 version, with the Affects Objects modifier (no change to cost). Free Action: Switch Array to Drain Toughness from Flight (leaving me with Flight 1 to maintain altitude and such). Standard Action: Attack the Robo-Maid, attempt to Drain Toughness. Attack Roll: 16+10=26 DC 21 Reflex Save, or the Robo-Maid loses 11 points of Toughness.

Gabriel gave a small laugh. "Predatory creature of the night? Huh. I must have missed the memo, and I've been looking after these streets for a few months now. And I can't argue about your costume's symbology. If you can't tell, I'm not going to berate you for bright colors on your costume." Because, you know, his own costume. The younger hero takes a few steps closer, still keeping the same pose. He seems to be talking a bit more normally now. "Frankly, I think it's good to see someone wearing those colors, and working around Southside. Shows these folks that there's something worth hoping for and all. I'd wear them, but I don't feel it would be quite proper..." At this point, he seems satisfied with the distance he covered, and extends his hand for Partisan to shake. "I go by Gabriel. May I ask your name, sir?"
-
Gaming Sunday. I'll be gone from...well, pretty soon here now, until late. Might get one or two posts up tonight after I get back. On the flip side, short week at work, so it's all good...

Gabriel was doing one of his more typical patrols during the early evening, glad he had his coat to ward off the slight chill in the air. He'd just done a quick sweep a couple blocks over, and might have missed that anything was going on... Except for the rather bright costume he saw on a nearby roof. Now, he wasn't one to throw stones in glass houses, all things considered, but it still left him curious. He adjusted his course and landed several feet behind the gentleman in American colors, a slightly amused smile on his face as he gently spoke up, the words ringing clear in Partisan's ears even though it was likely no one else would catch even a hint of them. "Forgive me for intruding, sir, but is everything alright? Are you on something of a "hero patrol" yourself? I don't actually recognize your costume..." When Partisan turns around, he will find Gabriel simply standing there, arms crossed over his chest, not even resembling a respectable fighting stance. He seemed to be patiently waiting for the other man to speak.
-
Gabriel closed his eyes and gave a nod as he softly sighed. He slowly pulled the glove from his left hand, presenting it bare to Robin. He looked her directly in the eye as he spoke. "I did not mean insult, Miss Cross. But you must understand, this is not a typical avenue for me to pursue. For...various reasons. But I also acknowledge that people such as yourself do something genuine, and I trust that. I trust you to not misuse what you're about to receive. Forgive any insult I may have offered."
