Wherein Gabriel goes to Robin Cross for help with a somewhat unusual problem. Edit: IC thread.

Carson took to helping her mop up the spill on the counter. As he did, he continued to chat. "Tell you what. I'll buy you a replacement drink. My treat. That sound alright to you, Miss...?" He paused, clearly waiting for her to finish the sentence and give him her name. Only fair, since he'd given his!

Gabriel raised an eyebrow at that open admission. 'Huh. Didn't think he'd admit the engagement like that. Still, their business, seems like they have things handled pretty well.' "Normally I stick to Soutside proper. But, last month kind of opened my eyes a bit to the bigger picture. It also gave me a few scars, but I can't complain too much. Fleur actually helped me out. I thanked her before, but pass on my thanks again for that. I have to admit, though. Half the reason I went on this patrol was to get more than 30 seconds of flight time. It's...really, it's beautiful flying through the air like this. Really makes you appreciate what we're protecting." His voice fades to silence as he listens to the other two men, also curious about how Dark Star is working on a galactic level.

Dude, there's enough material for Green Lantern, and just the Lantern-related stuff, to probably produce tons of movies. The eternal problem, of course, is "getting it right". :o

Frank and Tim were in enough of a rush they didn't notice what they'd done. They got their drinks ordered and were telling what they thought were funny stories, the noise and the press of people having masked Carrie's spill Carson, on the other hand, noticed. He shook his head, downing the last bit of his Coke before walking over. He grabbed several napkins and offered them to Carrie with a wry grin. When he spoke, Carrie might be shocked that he was clearly audible, and yet he didn't seem to be shouting. Must just be the distance, and strong vocal chords. Certainly she could still pick out the signs of a moderate Irish accent in his words. "Sorry about that. I think it's hard to pick up on things in a place this loud and crowded. My name's Carson, by the way." He gave her a winning smile, his teeth shining in the lighting of the club as he held the napkins out to her.

Gabriel blinks in surprise at Dark Star's sudden arrival. Dark Star...wait a tic. Gabriel adjusted his course to allow Dark Star into their ad hoc flying formation, and waited for his cyborg friend to finish before speaking. "Pleasure to meet you, Dark Star. I've heard some about you, all good things. I've done some work with-" He almost said "Stesha", but shook his head and corrected himself. "-Fleur de Josie. She mentioned that the two of you worked together a lot. But that you were off in space for something. Did that get sorted out, then? I'd guess so, since you're not raising the alarm or anything." 'Interesting. Seems like a nice guy, though the whole "living energy" thing seems like an odd compliment to Stesha's whole plant motiff. Weirder things have happened, though..' he thought to himself.

Gabriel lazily dodges the robot's blow, hovering in the air as he does so. "Well, at least we've hurt it." When Miss A and Shockwasp combine their attacks, Gabriel shrugs and moves over a bit. Once in position, he pushes both arms forward, and a solid line of sonic energy roars forward, striking the same spot. "You two brought the lightning, now I'll bring the thunder!

Gabriel rocks the Giant Robot's world: 1d20+10=17 Which, as I understand, brings the attack up to DC 33.

Not as hard as they fail me. Initiative=9

Gabriel laughs. "Maybe that's why I was given the coat; because people might mistake it for a set of wings. Throw my opponents off, give that extra little burst of hope..." His shrug is lost amidst his course and position adjustment. They were starting to turn, making a large circle around the center area of the city. "I dunno about constant city-wide patrols. I might do something a couple times a week. But Southside's usually busy enough to need me quite a bit. Even with other heroes around. Plus, I don't know if I could really afford goggles like that. But you're right, I'd need something to help me see; my powers keep my eyeballs from getting sandblasted out of my head, but don't really help my vision any."

Cobalt Templar was passively waiting for the planners to work out their strategy when Ironclad arrived. He turned, and actually recognized her. "Oh! Ironclad! Good to see you. It's me, Cobalt Templar. From that fracas at the Mall a few weeks back? Anyways. Glad to have more backup here." He turned back to the others. Before long, the plan seemed finished. Push handed out orders, and he nodded. A light blue glow surrounded his body, and he floated up to the roof level, positioning himself to intervene if...no, when necessary. No plan survives contact with the enemy. When the doors were flung open, he quickly wrinkled his face at the stench. He glanced over to IC2. "I don't like this. Sounds like it's already going south." He flexed his right hand as a small glow leaked from his ring, eerily resembling a bright blue fire rolling across his hand. -
Gabriel was not a man who frightened easily. He'd faced demons, zombies, and grim-dark alternate-future heroes. But when you're flying at 500 miles an hour, "sudden crash into metal" isn't a pleasant thought. So it's understandable that he didn't just "flinch" when Victory pulled his little stunt. Instead, he falters, dropping a good 20 feet in altitude and taking several seconds to steady himself. When he's got an even keel, he pushes his speed until he pulls up even with Victory, albeit about 10 feet to the side. He looks over to the other hero and shakes his head. "That was a nasty little trick there, Victory my friend. Thankfully, my God-given grace allowed me to smoothly recover." He rolled in midair until he was flying with his back facing the ground, his chest facing skyward. "I have to admit, this joint patrol isn't that bad. It's a great excuse to get some good flight time in, if nothing else. I love protecting Southside, but it's mostly just short "hops" around there." He rotated again, returning to his "normal" orientation. "But taking a route like this, all over? Really lets me stretch my...well, not my wings, but you get the idea."

It was a rather brisk November afternoon as Gabriel hummed through the air above Downtown Freedom City. He was low enough to be skimming buildings, even weaving around them. He seemed to be clearly enjoying himself as he did so. He slowed a bit and projected his voice through the air, back to his "patrol buddy". "I didn't leave you behind, did I Victory?" His speed increased again, hovering not far below "supersonic" (as he didn't wish to break windows) while he dipped a bit lower, giving himself an extra challenge maneuvering around the buildings.

Cobalt Templar had been keeping his eyes on the exits for the warehouse. When Push offered him the night-vision goggles, he calmly passed them back. "Thanks, but I don't need them. I can see fine in the dark as-is." He stood by, letting the others take over the planning for the most part. "I'm willing to help out however I can. I'm not quite a master strategist just yet." There was a note of levity in his voice, despite the gloomy weather. When Dragonfly noted the absence of the probable bodyguards, CT's head whipped around to face her. "Wait, gone? Were they standing figures before?" A slight glow started to occur around his right hand. "Are they hidden by the big fire, or what?" -

Cobalt Templar silently lowered himself until his feet touched the ground. He scanned the young man in front of him, and the area in general, trying to determine what might be going on. He noted the clearly defensive stance Push was taking, as well as what might be traces of some sort of ability. He also noticed Dragonfly approaching. Dead Head announced himself as he arrived, though CT didn't know him at first glance. When he spoke it was also in a whisper, his arms still crossed across his chest. "You have to understand, this is incredibly odd. You're not giving me a lot to go on...Push, was it? I'm willing to help, if you give me the 20-second clip show." He turned to face Dead Head. "And you are...?" He turned for a moment to look in Dragonfly's direction, but didn't try to speak, for fear of his voice carrying. He turned back to the others. "Call me Cobalt Templar. I'm willing to help if you guys can help fill me in a bit." -
Hm. Notice Check on Push and the surroundings. Notice: 19+7=26 Wow. Hope that wasn't wasted... :?

Corbin was on one of his first solo patrols this evening. He wasn't too far out from Calremont, all told. He could be back in almost no time at all. Mostly, he was just making sweeps of the warehouse area along the waterfront. It seemed prime "crime territory", even if nothing was happening. He glanced down...and saw a man floating downwards, then scrambling over to a window in a warehouse, attempting to peek in. 'So much for "nothing's happening", huh?' Carefully, he flew himself down to the same warehouse, working to stay away from the sight lines from the windows. Eventually, he worked his way to a spot not far from Push, where he stopped and hovered, arms crossed, apparently waiting for Push to notice him. -
Corbin rolls the name around in his head, and shrugs. "Feel like I should recognize the name, but I don't. Still, that's pretty cool. Kind of an "odd-couple" vibe, if you think about it. You seem like a bit of a "seat of your pants" type of guy, which is cool, plus you use magic. Then your girlfriend's a planner who uses technology. Just strikes me as nice kind of...balance, I guess. But yeah, might be fun to meet her. Maybe she can tell me embarrassing stories about you!" He gently elbows Blake with a wink, then taps his pencil against his drawing pad. "Huh. Don't really use Facebook every day. And I certainly don't have many people linked on it yet. You think I should go for it?" He seems genuinely nervous now. "I've...never really been a "dater", so I'm not sure how to go about it. But you're right, worth a shot, you know? I wonder if her being more, ah, "athletic" scares some guys off. Ultiteen, that is." Are his cheeks a bit red now, as he's concentrating hard on his pad and pencil?

Carson had had doubts about the whole affair at first. He just wasn't part of the "club scene", as he put it. But, a couple of the other teachers at the College had practically begged him to go. They needed someone to play wingman, and maybe play "sober man". Carson, while not against drinking alcohol, rarely did so outside of his home. No matter, they said. He could get free soda at the bar! So, he'd agreed to stop by Infinity right after work. That this gave him an excuse to be wearing his small backpack was nothing but good news. He saw his friends standing near the front of the line. With a smile and a nod, he easily joined them. Any hurt feelings were quickly assuaged by his natural charm. The man at the door let them all in without a hitch. Carson smiled as his friends made a beeline for the dance floor. The music was loud, but nothing too bad. Then again, he was perhaps a bit biased in that regard. He felt the unconscious urge to shape the sound, something he rarely did. He almost always generated his own generic sound waves. Nodding slightly with the beat, he made his way to the bar. "I'll have a large Coca-Cola, please. I'm the designated sober man tonight." A knowing wink at the bartender got him a nice discount on the drink. The tip he placed on the bar more than made up the difference in price. Taking a seat on one of the stools, Carson turned and went about people-watching, keeping one eye on his two friends. Frank and Tim were good guys, but sometimes displayed impaired wisdom on a "party night".

Corbin just shakes his head with a grin. "You know, the fact that you're a student here really is a relief. You're not as...formal...as some of the people here, but feel a bit more down-to-earth than some of the others. It's refreshing. The fact that you enjoy good music helps. Do you play, or just listen? As for the whole girl thing...Do you have an actual girlfriend? I mean...argh. Sorry. That came out wrong." He wiped a hand across his face. "Joking about girls lining up is all well and good, but do you actually have a girl? How does the whole dating thing work out when you're a superhero, even if you're one in training? As for the girls around here...are there any that aren't taken, that aren't also...um." He seems to ponder his terminology for a minute. "Insufferable. Or graduating seniors, I guess. I'm not exactly "shopping" just yet, but it's good to get the "lay of the land". I know I saw one or two really nice gals. Like the one who's almost as tall as me. And nearly as built. Blond hair." Corbin winked a bit at this description; Blake might be able to infer he was likely referring to Quo-Dis, the Ultiteen.
-
Corbin was engaged in the fireworks display, admiring the complexity that had been achieved. 'I don't think I could copy half this stuff, even with my ring! This is awesome! I really need to talk to this Victory guy later, about flight tips...' He was almost unnerved by Estelle's rapid mood shift. He looked over at her, an expression of concern on his face. "What's wrong, Estelle? What do you mean? I mean, yeah, sure, life has no guarantees, but...?" Meanwhile, a small distance away, Albert and Sarah Hughes were basking in the glow of the show, holding each other and smiling. They'd seen their son standing with Estelle, but chosen not to interfere. Both seemed to be behaving well enough. And it was good for him to socialize. "Really, what triggered this? Are you feeling okay?" He really seemed worried about the woman standing with him, though he managed to keep his volume down low.

Gabriel mutters a curse under his breath and alters course. He begins chasing after the man in armor. However, he realizes they need an edge in this chase. Thus, rather than pushing himself to his maximum speed, he diverts much of his attention to a more...esoteric...approach. Sound waves suddenly battered the very mind of the final member of the Power Corps, threatening to turn everything upside down. "While he's distracted, move in! Let's go!"
-
Right, so because of how things are laid out, I can't both catch up and attack this guy this round. So! Move Action with Flight 1 to start chasing him. Standard Action, use Confuse, which has Perception range. That'll be Will Save DC 21!
-
Corbin winced at the spill, working to help clean it up as well, before quickly scarfing the rest of his food down, making sure to pay his bill on the way out. "Hm. It's not my biggest concern by any means, mind you. But...this isn't something that's innate to my own person. I want to understand what all went into making this thing, and if there's an "instruction booklet" to go with it, all the better to know the limits it carries. Besides, like I said, I enjoy these sorts of things. I have all that knowledge at my fingertips, just as soon as I figure out the key to unlock it. I think knowing just what I'm using will help me forge my own path better; more so than stumbling around discovering new powers here and there." He shrugs. "Still and all, you've got a point. It's one major reason I'm at this school. To try finding out better just who I am."
