  2. Corbin offered his free hand to Joan, a pleasant smile on his face. "It's nice to meet you, Ms. Collier. It's definitely a one-of-a-kind party. He seems to be making sure it's exciting and fun, rather than just people standing around socializing. The fact that all these spectacles will keep the photographers busy is only a plus." A slight frown passes over his face, before being replaced with thoughtfulness. "The government? Really? I thought all these performers were hired directly. How is the government involved?" He seems honestly curious.
  3. It wasn't long before Sarah returned from the inner recesses of the bathroom, making a beeline for the sink. As she washed her hands, she regarded the other females in the room. A couple of times, she seemed almost ready to speak, asking a question, making an observation, or who knows what. Each time, it died before she made a sound. Finally, her time at the sink was done, and she turned to face them both. She gave a respectful incline of her head to them. "I hope you two continue to enjoy the evening." Her tone was sincere, even...sympathetic? She exited the door, quickly rejoining her husband. "There you are, honey. Look, Corbin's over with Estelle de Havilland. Maybe he can get a few juicy news tidbits." "Are we thinking of the same son?" "Well, mostly just what she's doing of late. He might be more of a historian, but he's not disinterested in other subjects." "Albert, he's here to learn how to socialize, and maybe even have fun. Don't try to make him an official schmoozer yet." "Yes dear." With a smile, Albert kissed his wife on the cheek, before twining her arm in his and joining the crowd walking outside.
  4. Corbin turned to face Estelle, swallowing the last bit of food he'd picked up a few moments ago. Wiping his hand on a napkin, he then extended it to shake hers with a firm grip. "Corbin Alphonse Hughes, and I daresay the pleasure is all mine." He gives her a slight bow, offering her his arm. He declines offers of any drink, and simply works to escort them out. "This is certainly the most...unique...party I've been to in, well, ever." His eyes flicker here and there, taking in all the myriad attendees. They rest for a moment on his father, waiting near the women's restroom. They exchange nods, his father holding a bit of a smirk, and Corbin a touch of a blush. "I'm sure my folks will be happy I'm interacting with women in a formal setting like this. Not exactly my forte just yet."
  5. Sarah simply watches Joan go, before turning to examine the other two women in the anteroom. She shrugs slightly, and sidles past them into the deeper recesses of that mysterious land known as "the women's restroom".
  6. Suddenly, the door opened behind Joan, and Sarah Hughes bustled in, clearly on a mission. She stopped dead when she saw someone right in front of her, and raised an eyebrow at the gathering. "Pardon me, ladies. Could I pass through, please?" Curiosity was secondary, in this case.
  7. Corb-No, Cobalt Templar, had been flying just behind and to the right of Wander, wanting to be able to easily follow her lead and hear her words. He'd been issued a radio for this patrol, so he too picked up on the static. "Interference...huh. Good call. On the phone, you just shrug it off, but I guess this city out to have great coverage..." With that, he made sure to increase his speed a bit, to make sure he kept up with Young Freedom's lady brawler.
  8. [EDIT]Scratch Friday plans, staying home.[/EDIT] Saturday, normal-ish posting. Some housecleaning and such, but otherwise not bad. Sunday, I'll basically be busy all day.
  9. The Irishman accepted the food with a smile. "Something to keep in mind for the future, perhaps." He closes his eyes and bows his head over the food, going silent for several moments. When he finished, he dug in with gusto, clearly making up for lost nutrients. After a couple minutes of comparatively silent eating, he slowed down and looked up at Stesha, a touch of concern on his face. "How are you holding up? I'm sure you've been worked to the bone recently, what with...well, you know. Have you gotten rest and food and such?"
  10. Carson blinked in disbelief as he listened. "You have a whole bloody planet for your secret headquarters? My goodness, Stesha! One day you could probably open a resort here! I mean, this place is so relaxing. Though...I suppose some people would have trouble with the "no cable, no internet" and so on. It looks like you can bring in some tech, at least. Good thing solar power is so advanced, eh?"
  11. As the song ended, and another didn't take its place, Corbin stopped his movements, taking a step back from Etain, and giving her a formal bow. <Thank you for the dance, milady.> He straightens, a small smile on his face. "I really am thirsty now." With that, he walks over to one of the drink tables, ordering a simple glass of ice water, and greedily drinking half of it in a short amount of time. He then takes survey of the room, trying to see who is where and doing what.
  12. Carson laughed. "My ma and da would box me around the ears if I refused your hospitality either way. But no. Very much not a vegetarian." He looked around the room. He seemed interested, but confused. "Where are we?"
  13. Carson was quickly done with his business, and already feeling a bit stronger. "I think I'll give it a shot. I feel disgusting right now." He commenced awkwardly getting into the shower, the water quickly turning on. Said water was only running for about 4 minutes, before it turned off and there was silence. About 3 minutes later, Carson stumbled out of the "door", leaning heavily against the wall. "Wow. I could eat for an infantry squad right about now. I feel as weak as a kitten." He looked like he fit in the sweatsuit alright, but as he settled onto the ground, it was obvious he wasn't up to par. "Wow. I'm kinda worn out. You say it's only been a couple of days? Feels like it's been longer..."
  14. A thoughtful look crossed his face. "Didn't buy the suit in a shop. You might give it another look. Who knows? Maybe the coat won't be as bad as you think, if nothing else. And I think I can manage now." Indeed, he seems able to use the walls and sink to prop himself up enough to move around. "Let a man have a bit o' dignity, would ya?" He throws her a cheerful wink, but also shoos her out. Nature, and all that.
  15. "If you've had to take care of me this much, I'd say you can call me Carson." He gives her a wan smile as he struggles to sit up. "And the only way I'm using a pan is if I can't get myself in there. Walk, crawl, hobble, fly, but I'm going to use the toilet as if I weren't an invalid." He seems to be having an internal debate as to whether to just skip to the flying or not. "By the by, where did you put my costume?" The air hums as he concentrates, slowly lifting into the air, and keeping the same height as he inches forwards. "...Could you provide the moving power for me? I can hover, but I'd rather not try moving much faster than this on my own. I would, however, like to go faster in general."
  16. Carson stared around the room, finally able to really make sense of what he was seeing. Well, as much sense as he could, lacking some context. Running a hand over his face, he heaved a sigh. "Now that I'm not in panic mode...." His hand brushes over his bare chest, where 4 large, ugly scars run all the way across. A reminder for the rest of his life. "Not too bad, I suppose. Vaguely aches and pains, plus stiff. Hungry. Um..." He blushes a bit, glancing under the blanket and feeling relieved he at least had some boxers on. "Kinda need to answer "the call", if you catch my drift." Suddenly, he realizes something, as his hand starts to go to his face, before falling limp to his side. "Guess there's no point in panicking about my mask, is there? Not like it's the only thing I lack..."
  17. Corbin gives a brief nod to Estelle. "Until later, ma'am." He then follows Etain onto the floor. He doesn't possess the same innate skill at the art of dancing, but he is able to follow along reasonably well, without tripping or stepping on her feet. As they dance, he seems to gradually adjust better to the flow of their movements, making his own seem a bit more natural. His hand were planted on her shoulders, which wasn't hard for someone of his comparative stature. His own posture seemed to relax as they danced. Though he made sure they kept plenty of space between them and his parents. He didn't want things to be weird. "Well, here's to hoping this marks the beginning of us enjoying the party a bit more, eh?" Corbin's efforts to steer clear of his parents meant that the young couple passed close to Felix & Joan, as well as the Doctor & Miss Americana.
  18. I was gonna do this roll-less, but I suppose I can fudge Acrobatics in for Dance. I mean, it's got Balance in there, so close enough. Result: 7+10=17. Let's say that's enough he follows smoothly, but doesn't add any flair to the dance.
  19. November 1, 2010: Somewhere Greener -Pain- That was the first thing that crossed Carson Finbar Keefe's mind as light slowly filtered through his clenched eyelids. He let out a groan, shifting on the bed he found himself on. His eyes started to flutter open, but didn't quite focus. 'That's weird. I don't have green paint in my apartment...' He tried to sit up in bed, but couldn't quite gather the strength. 'Wait, bed? I was bleeding out on the street, praying for help. Where am I?' He started struggling to stand up, but the blanket seemed to suddenly impede anything he tried to do. It was only moments before he rolled off one side of the bed. *Thump* "Bloody 'ell. Even the bloody floor sounds wrong. Saints preserver, where am I?" His native accent, combined with the slur of his pain-and-sleep-addled brain, made those words barely understandable. But between him railing at the oddities of life, and the sound of his fall, surely someone heard him?
  20. Wherein Stesha has been nursing poor Carson back to health. Nasty super-ghouls and their grimy claws! EDIT: IC Thread.
  21. Corbin managed to find his footing rather quickly, all things considered. Super-strong hair probably helped matters. "Oh damn it, I'm sorry. I made you spill...ugh. This is horrible. At least my parents are distracted..." Currently, Albert and Sarah were at the other end of the dance floor, staring deeply into each others' eyes. If not for his current situation, Corbin might have shook his head, appreciating the romance while still feeling weirded out at his parents making googly eyes at each other. At least they weren't making out or anything. "You didn't-Oh good, it isn't on your clothes or anything. I'm sorry, I just got so flustered, and..." He's now fiddling nervously with the ring on his right hand, spinning it around in place as his left foot taps a rapid beat on the floor. Corbin turned to face Etain, his face almost...angry. His response in Latin was an angry near-hiss. <No! I will not go running to my parents like a mewling babe, and I will not have others fighting all of my battles for me! I should have handled it better. It's my problem, my responsibility. I should-> Suddenly, he stops. His eyes close, and his foot stops its angry beat. He seems to take a moment to mentally repeat a mantra, or some such thing; his lips faintly flutter, no real pattern to what they're doing. When his eyes open again, they're still slightly stressed, but much calmer. His posture has relaxed, and he takes a moment to straighten out his coat, brush off his pants, and tug his sleeves back into position. His voice has regained much of its gentle strength and calm when he speaks again. "I apologize. I should not be mad at you, Etain. You were only trying to help. Nonetheless, the point stands. I will not run to my parents, and I will not ask you to fight my battles for me. Isolation is the last thing I need. My parents had the right idea when they brought me here. One way or another, this will become part of my life. I need to accept that." He takes a slight step so both women are in his sight line. He turns to face Estelle fully for a moment, giving her a semi-formal bow. "I would ask, ma'am, that I have the honor of a dance with you after a short while. I feel it's the best I can do to make up for bumping into you. But first..." He turns to Etain, and also bows. "I would ask you for the honor of a dance as well. My anger was unfounded, so let me further apologize by giving you a dance partner who isn't already inebriated." He held out a hand to his fellow student, a perfectly schooled expression on his face.
  22. Corbin paused, glass halfway to his lips. That name, he recognized. "Wait, Alex Albright? She runs her own company, and rather well, too. Huh. Don't let my folks hear, they'd flip out. And charity work is good stuff. That's the one downside to archeology; my direct revenue stream wouldn't facilitate much charity or anything. It'd have to come from inheritance and investments and such." He rolls his eyes, but there's good humor there. His mood turns more serious. "I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Um...we live up in North Bay...Does she have any close friends or anything? People she can spend time with?" He shifts awkwardly in his seat, not sure how to handle this problem.
  23. ...So's Corbin. <_< >_>
  24. The two women clinging to Corbin were shaken by Etain's intensity. They shakily released the poor boy, and went on to quickly move on to easier prey. Corbin, meanwhile, took a step back, trying to give himself some space from even Etain. He ran a hand through his short hair and breathed a sigh of relief. "Thanks. I didn't want to just shove them away, that would have looked-" Unfortunately, fate decided to be a cruel mistress to Corbin this night. His couple of small steps put him right in the path of Victory, who was concentrating on Tex. Thus, Victory bumped into the young man. Normally, this wouldn't be an issue. However, Victory weight quite a bit more than Corbin did. Victory seemed to barely notice the hit; Corbin was sent stumbling forward, his arms flailing a bit to keep his balance. Curse these moments of teenage awkwardness! Even worse, this stumble sent him right into Etain. It was practically a body-check, though he had no real speed, so she just bounced off his chest. That still meant she was starting to fall. Fortune decided it was being too harsh, and gave Corbin a bit of a break. He managed to catch his balance and Etain at almost the same time, using his greater mass as an anchor. Somehow, they ended up in a pose reminiscent of a dancing dip, one a bit at odds with the current slower music. The fact that two more photographers just happened to be close enough to get near-perfect shots, even as Tex simply smiled and erased the photos of Corbin from his camera in front of Victory's eyes, just meant that Fortune wasn't going easy on the boy. "There you go, big guy. My photos are erased. But don't think you'll get away with threatening two more legal press members. We have rights too, you know." Here the other two photographers waved their cameras jauntily in the air. Clearly, they were working with Tex on this assignment. It was a big party, after all. Corbin was still flustered as he straightened himself and Etain out, quickly letting go of the girl. "I'm so sorry! That was an accident, I didn't mean to! Sorry sorry sorry!" He began backing away from Etain, Victory, Tex, the punch bar, and basically everyone involved in that semi-minor fiasco that had probably attracted the attention of half the party-goers at this point. His face was flushed with embarrassment, and a bit of anger. This means he doesn't quite watch himself, and ends up bumping rather firmly into Estelle de Havilland. He manages not to send her tumbling, but has to take a moment to collect himself to prevent more physical slapstick. "Oh, I'm so sorry ma'am! So sorry! I didn't mean to, it's just..." He throws his hands into the air as a sign of helplessness.
  25. 20 seems like a good result for intimidating brainless floozies. I'll post IC stuff at the appropriate moment.
