  1. Micah actually leaned back, just slightly. Not out of disgust, Ben could easily read that much. But instead, just out of...Ben was a lot. "Silat's cool." Micah looked thoughtful. "Which one is Silat?" Micah raised an eyebrow as he wound down his song. "Cool trick. Heinlen's got some fun books, but he's also...kinda weird. Most folks can't do all of that. Some of it, even a lot of it, but...yeah." He smiled a bit. "Funny how he doesn't mention fixing cars or planes in there." Micah gave Ben a slightly concerned look. "Your blood's weird? That...that doesn't hurt or anything, does it?" He glanced down at his guitar, then back at Ben. "I mean...if you're curious, I'm okay if you want to put a hand on the guitar. Just try to keep the touch as light as possible, it's all acoustic. I don't mind, though." "Hm. I'm sure he was. But you're right about how interesting Claremont can be-" And then a beam of light came down from the clouds. Micah actually turned that direction before the beam of light came down, his eyes widened in more than a bit of shock. He stood staring for several moments, trying to determine what just happened. This time was just long enough for his rather sharp vision to see the rather friendly hug between Leroy and Astrid (who was a nice girl for the time he'd spent with her, at least). For just a moment, the air around him got a touch chillier. Then he turned toward the others and smiled. He began to play an upbeat but eerie tune. "What were we talking about? Right. Rarely quiet 'round here." Pan could, by this point, clearly tell that having Micah play music seemed to let him open up more than otherwise. Might be the open air around them, too!
  2. Micah blinked, shrugged, and gave a tentative fist-bump back. "I'm okay. Just checking this out." Micah seemed quiet, but more in a "calm, reserved" way that fit what Claude had gathered of his personality thus far, rather than someone who was experiencing a negative emotional state. Micah actually laughed a bit at the joke. He gave Ben a wave and a nod back. "Hey." When he sat down, there was a smile on his face. It faded a bit as the teacher mentioned "working together in groups", and he cast his gaze around the room, trying to determine who he'd want to work with. And on what? He had a few ideas ranging from small items to some pretty fanciful stuff, but it remained to be seen just what could be accomplished here.
  3. Micah Roebuck stood in the doorway to the "tech club"', the first meeting of this semi-informal group already coalescing in front of him. He saw Claude and Ben, two friendly but boisterous fellows he'd started to get to know. Mostly at their insistence. Especially Ben's. There was...a girl he didn't know, not that that was hard. That Atlantean prince guy who'd started this year. 'Is he a prince?' A guy who he was pretty sure was Claude's friend and/or roommate. And three people whose presence really stopped him in his tracks. Ashley, Judy, and Leroy. The first two, or the latter, he could deal with. But all three, with the extra-awkward dynamics right now? Micah almost turned around right then and there. But then he thought of that barely-functional pair of motor-skates he'd made for Danica, and his dreams of his career, and his love of mechanical things. So Micah quietly came in and sat down in the back, trying to avoid drawing attention, at least for now.

  5. For several moments, the fight was the strange "boss" and the white-clad vampire, all melodrama and snarled threats. Then, out of nowhere, a man-shaped missile of muscle and beard all but tackled the crime boss out of nowhere. "Hoho! The wolf speaks! And my friend here, he is no leech!" Judex's smiling face was far, far too cheerful for a man in a life-or-death struggle. The smile turned a bit sinister as Judex's hands locked onto the man like steel traps. "He's an owl, and me?" He leaned in, so the man could feel Judex's breath on his cheek. So he could feel that 1000-watt smile that was in no way comforting for the others to behold. "I'm a wolfhound. Today, the city hunts you back, little wolf."
  6. Ugh, sorry, just saw this.... Move Action: get up next to Bossman Standard Action: Melee Attack: 28. DC 19 Toughness Save! Free Action: Grapple Attempt: Also 28.
  7. Micah just rolled his eyes. "Only you would be proud of that, man." Micah's expression became a bit more guarded at Claude's comments about his roommate's name. Still, he spoke politely and with a friendly manner. "I'm alright. And it's not a nickname, that's his name." Micah blinked, then shrugged. He took a half-step forward and offered Ben his hand for a quick shake. "Nice to meet you, Ben. I'm Micah, like he said. Didn't really expect this big of an audience, but oh well." He sat down on the same wall he'd been perched on before, and began to strum aimlessly for a moment. "So. I've figured out what Davyd can do, and Pan and I are roommates so I know his powers pretty well. I'm, ah..." He stopped, then looked up. The sky above them darkened for a few moments, as a cloud just...appeared. As soon as it appeared, it was gone. He looked back at the others, his face holding a slightly mischievous smile. "Let's just say that I don't care too much about weather forecasts. But...what can y'all do?" He started to play his guitar again, and this time the chords of another song came out.
  8. Gabriel had helped keep several of the zombie-creatures off of his teammates, but now was the time to strike final blows. He maneuvered himself to the side of the beast, and stood several feet away. For several moments, he just regarded Tom with a mixture of disgust and sadness. "Go to your rest." He took a deep breath and held it for several moments. And then, the hero in shining silver and white leaned forward and screamed. His voice echoed in the atrium space; the air between him and Tom distorted, as a seeming column of concentrated sound all but connected the undead being and the sound-controller. The only one who would likely find his attack less-than solid was the speedster hero of the League, who had yet to land her own final strikes...
  9. "Yeah, I'm not trying to mess with you, buddy. I know we've lived pretty different lives. And...you're right. She's worried because she loves me. It's just...I dunno. I guess this is just kind of part of a teenager? Me and her are kind of...readjusting." At the statement regarding his father, Micah closed his eyes and continued to play. "He died. Heart attack. Just....dropped dead one day at the office. I said 'bye dad, I love you' that morning, and that night he was gone. He didn't even get shot or anything. That happens, you know? Get too much beer into some rednecks and, well...anyway." He opened his eyes. "I think we'll figure it out, but that was kind of rolling in the back of my head today, yeah?" He laughed at Pan's words. He couldn't help it. "Well, some of what he said touched some deep nerves. Beyond that-" And then a new guy was there. Micah glanced at Pan and tried to communicate the idea of "we can talk about it later" before he turned to Claude. "Uh. Thanks. Not like I can do a whole band piece, but it works pretty well with just an acoustic, and that's what I've got. Plus, I like the song." He stood up and offered the new(?) guy a hand to shake. "My name's Micah. Nice to meet you."
  10. Micah gave Pan a smile and a nod before turning back to Davyd. "I'll see you up there. We've got plenty of time to chill out." Once the shape-shifter went back toward his family, the young Oklahoman turned to his friend, eyebrow raised. He opened the stairwell door for his roommate, and followed the other boy as they started a leisurely walk up the stairs. "So the phone thing isn't a surprise, you bugged me enough about mine and kept asking how to stay in touch. But how did you and Davyd meet?" He shifted his guitar case to his other hand as they walked. "Like, clearly you guys didn't just see each other at Starbucks or whatever." They reached the roof door, and Micah turned and shouldered it open. He used an elbow to push the handle, and his body weight to move the door itself; he shrugged off Pan's attempt to help. The young weather controller's mood had relaxed, but his roommate could still see tension there. Micah turned toward the roof. "You didn't mention any shenan-" He stopped talking and walking as he saw Claude at one end of the rooftop. After a moment, he tilted his head and turned to look at Pan. He spoke, his voice much quieter. "I don't think he can hear us right now. Come on." That was amazingly assertive for the Midwesterner! Micah walked to the other end of the rooftop, where he found a wall just below waist height at the edge. He walked along it until he was at one corner of the roof, well away from Claude and with the little "shed" the stairwell exited out of in between them. There he sat and laid the guitar case in front of himself. "Sorry, I just...coming here today, it was a lot already, yeah? I mean, I've gotten better with my powers, and school itself is going okay. But...last week, my mom and I had a fight. Not a big one, just..." He opened the case and picked up his guitar, beginning to softly tweak the strings as he tuned it. He was clearly in no hurry. "I...look, I think I've told you about this, but basically no one else. You know I like to work on mechanical stuff, right? Like, cars and bikes and whatnot?" He didn't look up to see if Pan nodded. "Mom's got it in her head that that means I'm going to be a mechanic when I get out of college. An airline mechanic, maybe. Or if for some reason I do join the military, it's as, like, a jet mechanic or tank mechanic or something. Something quiet. Safe." His voice didn't get quite angry at that last word, but he tuned a bit harder. "But she knows, my cousin who's practically my big sister-slash-aunt knows, and you know that what I really want to do....I want to fly those planes, Pan. And not the big, slow, cargo ones, or airliners or whatever. I want to fly something fast. It sound silly, when I'll probably end up faster than anything they'll make before I'm dead from old age." He strummed an aimless chord of music. "Assuming I don't keel over halfway there like my dad." Those words had an edge of still-raw sadness and bitterness to them. "But yeah. I want to fly fighter jets. Something fast, where it's just me, the plane, and the sky. No powers. No super-suits. Just...skill and machine, working together." He started to play a haunting tune. "It worked for Cousin Janet. At least until she got her powers as her plane blew up around her. And now...part of me wants to be a hero, too. Two strikes, with my mom. Dad was a cop, you know? Worried her sick." He lapsed into silence for a moment, continuing to play. "Also, Leroy's kind of a stuck-up jerk who probably couldn't find his behind from his nose if it wasn't on a silver platter, and I wanted to deck him in the face and freeze him to the ground earlier."
  11. Yeah. I'm kind of imagining Gabriel blasting him while Velocity speeds between the sound pulses/waves and keeps punching him, or some such.
  12. Sounds good to me.
  13. Micah shrugged. "Yeah, now I just need to be able to do it consistently. That was...reflex, I guess? But...thanks." He gave his roommate, his friend, a smile. Micah waved off the "got what I deserved" comment. "If you were a less adaptable student I might have hurt you. I need to be better. Weather control sounds awesome until you have it." Then he smiled and extended a hand to return the shake. "Nice to meet you. Yeah, we're roommates. Pan here is good people." He glanced down the hall for a moment. "You here with your family? It's cool they were able to come out. I..." He looked over to Pan, conflict on his face. "I was headed to the roof to get air, think, and play. I still kind of want to. I don't want to blow you guys off, though. Pun not intended. I'm going to head up but if you want to join me, feel free."
  14. Micah was just a few feet from the stairway door when Pan came up to him. He almost fought it, but eventually he smiled just a bit at Pan's words. His flight-loving roommate probably saw the young man's eyes mist up just slightly "You're a good friend, Pan. Have I told you that? I'll be fine, he just pushed some old but-" Micah jumped 4 feet into the air, stayed there, and turned with an honestly high-pitched shout-shriek. His free hand thrust out, and for a moment freezing-cold winds struck against Davyd's skin. After perhaps 10 seconds, Micah stopped, lowering to the ground and breathing hard, his eyes wide. "Uh...sorry about that. I. Um. I don't startle well. My bad. I'm, uh Micah." He extended his hand. It definitely wasn't still shaking.
  15. Micah had moved quickly when leaving the scene. He heard more shouting, but he ignored it. Judy had made her choice. 'What are you so mad about, Roebuck? You barely talked to the girl last year. You're not on the same team and you only hung out a few...okay more than a few, but that's not the point. You did nothing, nothing happened. Leroy's a take-charge-er. I'm sure they'll be happy.' He even only kind of sounded bitter in his own head. Lulu probably caught a few whiffs of it just from the intensity of his emotions. He slowed down when he entered the actual dorm hall; it took most of his willpower to suppress a sigh at how busy the hall was. Instead, he used the agility he'd been developing the last year to slip around people with quiet "excuse me" and other apologies, before slipping into his dorm room. He stepped out just a couple of minutes later, gripping his guitar case in hand...and just in time to see Ashley and Judy stepping into the elevator. Perhaps the girls saw him, perhaps they didn't. Didn't matter to Micah. He just turned around and headed for the stairs, intending to get away from everyone...
  16. Micah had relaxed slightly as Judy continued to tear into Leroy, at least leaving his "mid-stride" pose. However, when Leroy called him "Thunder" and accused him of being involved in "hangdog skulkery", he went still and his eyes narrowed slightly. "My name is Micah, Leroy. If you want to use my code name, it's Thunderbird, not 'Thunder'." He paused for a moment, and his lips pursed as he rolled his next words around inside his head for several moments. "That was your one free time calling me a dog, even if it was only incidental. I'd request you not do it again, even obliquely. Or we'll have words." He turned around and started to walk away. The intent of his posture, his stride, and his face all said he wanted to ignore everything going on behind him. "Congratulations. To both of you." There was no anger in his voice, but it held no joy, either.
  17. Micah had come back on-campus earlier in the day, once again packing fairly light, though mostly because he had had a couple of small boxes of stuff shipped ahead of time to save traveling room. He'd gotten half-unpacked when Pan had texted him to "go get some fresh air my good friend!", and he'd decided to follow that advice. He'd opted for a light jog around the campus, and then a stroll around the dorm building that let him wave greetings without talking. It really was a beautiful day... And then he rounded a corner. First he saw Pan, and he smiled and started to wave at his roommate. He saw Ashley, and while his smile didn't wilt, it did weaken a bit; she still intimidated him. Even, or especially, when she was near Judy (which was all the time). The he saw Judy, and he started to smile a bit more! Then Leroy was there and Judy was yelling. That was the point when Micah froze, assuming that right now, the agitated young woman's vision was based on movement. If he stayed perfectly still, maybe he would escape notice, and thus any bleed-over wrath. That had to work, right?
  18. I know it's the most popular, but Micah would be most interested in Fight Club to learn how to really fight, to build his confidence, and definitely not because he hopes Judy will be wherever her sister's at. Definitely not that last one.

  20. Oof, sorry folks. Init: 13.
  21. Judex smiled after Doctor Thorne did her work. "You're in luck, my friend! Silver doesn't harm me at all!" With a flourish, Judex reached over and began picking the silver charms off the skylight, one by one. They made their way to his myriad pockets; when the others looked at him curiously, he shrugged. "The wolf below has no need of them, and mayhaps they can serve as gifts to sooth souls, or a means to raise a few pennies for those more in need than this one."
  22. Gabriel laughed at Velocity's ribbingabout the zombies; it was a sound far too delightful for this morbid battle. "I don't believe in such jinxes!" He turned his attention to the foes at hand, and his expression sobered. He floated a few feet into the air, and pointed one finger at Tom Cypress. His voice rang out, deep and clear. To everyone besides Tom, it simply had a deep, bell-like quality to it. To Tom, it was like being slammed by the surf on the beach. "Away with you! You should not be waking! Eat earth. Dig deep. Drink water. Go to sleep. Away with you!"
  23. Gabriel is going to try a Drain Toughness on Tom Cyprus. Ranged Attack: 23. If that hits, DC 22 Fortitude Save vs Drain Toughness.
  24. Gabriel had been content to let the others answer the "juicy" questions. But then his ears picked up...something. Sound was his domain, but even then he needed more than moments to analyze things. His gut told him they didn't have moments. The crowd started to move, but was still not organized as well as the hero hoped. So, he spoke, his voice ringing out above the noise. "I understand this is unsettling everyone but please remain calm. The floor and walls are lighting up to guide you to safe areas. Please move calmly but rapidly along, thank you!"
