  1. Tagging for later use.
  2. "All may fall to flame one day, and we all return to the dirt from whence we came, but to all things there is a season, brother. For now, our season is to grow and flourish and seek understanding." He gave the blue man a compassionate smile, unruffled by his odd ravings. As the other two were not immediately attacking, he simply chose a half-step backward. When the more coherent gentleman asked him a question, he turned and tipped his hat as he spoke. "My name is Judex, brother. I did not come to seek trouble or cause harm, but to seek truth. I wish to know and understand what happened, because I suspect the story is more complex than some might believe. And if that's the case, I wish to protect this Woodchuck from harm from those over-zealous to be seen 'doing something' in the midst of panic."
  3. Wait I'm confused; isn't the office the heroes are ransacking investigating down a couple hallways from the front desk, and far enough away the racket would be reduced? I didn't think Dr. Thorne and the snippy museum lady were anywhere close to the rest of us...Just kind of confused as to what's where and who...
  4. Will shivered at the "pretty boy" comment but his mother could tell it wasn't really fear. His rambling voice in her mind reinforced this. 'Okay, no, ew. No. Ugh. I'm sorry I know she was trying to be tough or whatever but just no. Besides, I could take her.' When his father, his real father, came racing back across the horizon, Thoughtspeed visibly relaxed, crossing his arms over his chest and affecting the attitude of a disinterested young adult, at least somewhat. "Uh. Yeah. It's a...a nice baby. Yeah." He definitely wasn't craning his head to get a better look, no sir.
  5. GM The officers glanced at each other and at some unspoken signal, one spoke up, glancing at his notepad. "Well, they were pretty sneaky when they were running around. Lot of messed-up cameras, we don't know everything. But it was about 12 minutes; that's the span between the front window break, and the upstairs window break. The alarm system got...not turned off, but somehow the silent alarm signal didn't go out for half that time. Probably just one of the "toys" they had on them. The techs upstairs were trying to figure out what they did beyond break in and run around a bit."
  6. GM The techs relaxed at Raina's much more laid-back attitude. "It's okay, I guess. I've had a twitchy cop get a bit excited once or twice on me, so it's not my first rodeo." At the talk shifting to the damage, he glanced at the company IT man, who nodded a bit. "Some. They definitely knew where they were headed; most of the racks are fine, this one is the only one that got damaged. Some of the drives are wrecked, but the backups are intact. They dropped a couple viruses in, but honestly they're pretty old ones, our software's cleaning them out enough to back up data before we wipe them." At that question, the younger CSI tech looked thoughtful. "Not exactly, but several of them have damage on the USB ports on the front. Someone coming in, yanking them out, shoving in a drive, and then yanking it back out would explain some of the damage. The rest of the damage could be them just yanking covers off for quick access, and stabbing a few drives to throw off their trail?" He didn't seem 100% sure of himself but it wasn't the worst theory around. The company man spoke up. "We're still trying to figure out what they got, though; they were in and out so quick it's a bit sloppy, but I'm not sure they didn't mess up extra systems just to cover their tracks."
  7. There were people inside the server room...specifically, two unarmed CSI techs and a company IT employee. All three jumped in surprise, offered some form of a shout or shriek of surprise, and yelled some variation on "don't shoot". The room itself was damaged, but not completely trashed. The three people already inside were at the end of one row of servers on their racks, several of the machines pulled partially out of their rack on the sliding rails, covers pried off, a few ports wrecked. The techs had been clustered around the monitor and keyboard at the end of the row. The older CSI tech spoke up first. "For heaven's sake kid, the thieves left! You don't need to go kicking doors and waving weapons around! Do you think we'd have let any civilians into the lobby, or shoot, have any of us CSIs here, if they thought it was an active crime scene?"
  8. Also, let's be honest...when was the last time Daedalus showed up in a thread? Wasn't it post-Communion? I've barely ever seen him used; PCs like Dok A and Miss Americana are referenced more readily. Or Dragonfly. In the cases of the Atoms and Daedalus, we're certainly not saying they can't show up, but having them be "the" authority seems a might restrictive, for exactly the reasons Alderwitch mentioned.
  9. On Phantom as Master Mage: I think there's some solid reasoning there. I don't know that I'd feel comfortable speaking "definitively", but that's mostly because the most "magical" character I have is Cobalt Templar, and that's more incidental than central (his ring is Described as Magic, but it's basically a GL Ring). Eldritch stepping down from the role makes sense, even if he stays alive a few more years. Could always have him hang around and give tips for a year or two, then run off to go read books for a decade or something. Phantom, of our active magic-focused PCs, is probably one of, if not the, strongest candidates. I don't think there's harm in bouncing the idea specifically off of the other active mage-types, but still. On Guide Shuffling: It might be worth having some discussions about where the new Guides and Refs might land, duty-wise. This could free up existing guides to take on slightly different duties. Maybe being "the magic stuff Guide" (it's a terrible name but you get the idea) would end up meaning you're assigned to the Character Building team as well? I think it's worth discussing.
  10. GM The nearby cop shrugged at the question. "High-tech stuff. None of them have really said anything in particular about what they make here. Well. Design." She gestured around the building. "This is their central offices, and most of their designer space. All the stuff you can do from offices and cubicles. They've got other places around town that make or store stuff." The CSI tech who noticed what Matt did quickly moved over and took a flurry of pictures. "Thanks, kid! I'm sure we'd have caught it eventually, but still. Yeah, this could break glass; either they kinda 'punched' it in, or someone threw it really hard or something." Another CSI tech was next to them now, using a tablet and glancing at the blade occasionally. "Hm. Not getting any immediate matches, but it's also not a super-distinctive style." At Reagen'ts question about taking a knife, the two techs stopped and looked at each other, before looking over to the third tech inside the lobby. Said tech, apparently the senior-most one present, gave a pained sigh and put on a rather pained expression, but nodded. "So long as you don't mind passing us what you find, yeah. I guess we've got samples, and may you super-folks can figure something out with your fancy doodads sooner than the lab could." There's a weird combo of hope and resignation in his voice at that speculation. The lead tech nodded. "I'll let the team up there know. Last report, at least most systems were at least partially intact. Just please check with them before, ah, accessing anything." The stairwell was clear of anyone, friend or foe, and had few signs of violent passage.
  11. Sun Walker blinks, and at the man's very direct attitude, he blinks again, and takes a half-step back. "Ah. Now. See here...First. My name. It's not 'Fuzzy Wuzzy'. I am Sun Walker. Secondly. Threatening violence...that's not something that suggests you care whether you hurt people or not." He glances back at the man cutting into the truck, and with his tail, gently points toward him. "He really should stop; as I said, this isn't your truck. Ah. Please?"
  12. Right, let's see... Will Save: 11. Le Sigh. Of course.
  13. "Hm. I think there's an even chance of one of those big, severe, scary-looking desks showing up before we're done. You know, the one they can have a bit swivel chair behind to dramatically turn around in?" Before he could invoke cliches further, they made it to the clothing stand. Alek made sure to pay absolutely no attention to the blatant bribing...that is, return of a lost wallet...that was going on. Instead, he carefully, casually browsed the visible wares at the stall, nodding to himself without manhandling anything. When the changing room was indicated, he simply looked over to Erick, eyebrow raised. Slowly, he made an "after you" gesture, before turning and giving the shop owner a polite smile.
  14. Gabriel landed and waited for the dimensional refugees to arrange themselves as they wished. He kept his hands entirely visible the whole time, making no sudden motions, with a soft smile (that showed no teeth) on his face. When questioned, he spoke, his voice loud and clear. He spoke slowly, hesitantly, one still learning the language in some ways, but hopefully at least marginally understandable. "I am called Gabriel. I am a...defender. I strive to keep people safe. I am not from this world, I was brought here. I want to help you become safe. I want to help you go to a place where you are safe and no one fears you."
  15. "Well if it makes the two of you feel better, thus far they've mostly sounded like over-eager puppies. I feel like they're working off of incomplete pictures...they called me 'holy one'. Which is just weird." Says the man standing there in armor made of silvered steel that literally came from heaven, wielding a spear of the same make, who once rode one of the Four Horses. Whose powers were kick-started by an archangel. "Still. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and all that. I can be the optimistic one, Tarrant can be the cynical one, and you can be the one ready to drown everything in vines, Stesha. Then of course the Bees." It was a testament to how long he'd lived on Sanctuary that the Bees no longer gave Gabriel the hilly-willies, as his mother might say. The fact that they were big enough to easily see and hear from a long ways away helped sooth his less-than-rational anxiety around stinging invertebrates. Pushing those thoughts to the side, Gabriel walked forward, stopping a short ways away from the best exit down from the ship. He slowly raised his hands in an open-palmed gesture of greeting, showing he was unarmed (comparatively). His face held a broad smile. When next he spoke, his voice carried strongly over to the ship. "Welcome, friends! We are glad you are here to sit and speak with us. Is there anything we can do to help you come out here so we may talk face-to-face?"
  16. Will took Thaelia's instructions dead-serious, his expression, if not grim, then certainly not bright and cheery. He carefully pulled the suit on, making sure his own helmet was retracted when he pulled the suit on, not wanting it to interfere with the only thing between him and drowning. He carefully pushed the dial, blinking as the suit snugged up. "Two layers of pseudo-spandex feels weird. I feel like I should make a double-bagging joke here but I'm too nervous to think of something." Which was saying something. After getting the suit snug, he turned to Thaelia, sizing her up for a second. "When you're ready, I'll put the helmet on and we can go. I can definitely keep us both unseen, and probably unheard. I think our wake should be invisible or minimal if we don't book it too much. But we have to keep touching. And I'm basically only good at treading water at high speeds. Which...yeah, you're gonna have to carry me. I'll let you know when I'm activating it; I'll need to concentrate on maintaining it." He waited for them to get into the airlock before turning on the translucent helmet. He then allowed the Atlantean princess to pick him up in whatever way was comfortable. "If only our classmates could see us, the rumors that'd start. Anyway, here we go. This might tingle a bit." Over the next few moments, both of their bodies became invisible, and the sound they made deadened in the air. And it tingled indeed, something akin to the sensation of strong peppermint on the tongue, but all over. And continuous.
  17. If/When something with Anti-Earth comes up, I'd like to offer Morningstar. I'd probably just use Gabe's sheet; he ought to be a 1-1 power copy, just, uh, not as nice. At all. (I'm not sure how you'd use him, but there you go.)
  18. Seems like the best approach to me. If there's only 2-3 PCs that join, maybe we could say there's 1-2 NPC heroes, just so it doesn't feel like a "lame duck" sort of team. Hm. Maybe adapt the genius corgi from "battlesuit hero" to "tech inventor support guy"?
  19. HIGHWAY TO THE HGM'D I feel the need. The need, for Speed. ...Sorta. Edits for Thoughtspeed! Complete sheet pasted in spoiler. Here's my Scratchpad post, as well. Edits: -Updated Age, Family, and a touch of history -Added 1 rank of Speed -Added 6 ranks of Quickness -Added 1 rank of Communication -Correct math errors in Mental Powers Container; this meant I didn't have quite as many free points as I thought! -Added 2 PP of Skills (8 ranks); raised Acrobatics, Notice, Sense Motive, and Stealth to 10 ranks apiece
  20. Right, let's see. Will's got Concealment: All Visual (4 ranks, 8pp) right now. If we added in All Hearing, that's another 2 ranks, so another 4PP needed. On top of that, the Affects Others extra costs +1PP/rank, so that'd be...6 more PP. Offhand, my instinct is to stunt off of his Blades array, since that's got 14 or so PP to play with. More than enough PP from there. I'm not sure any other Extras would be needed. I guess I'd use his 1 HP to make sure he's not Fatigued when they get to the other side.
  21. Thoughtspeed had been out on an evening run when he'd heard some folks chattering about stuff on social media, and heard a couple cop cars racing down the road. He pulled his phone out, checked what was up, and raced off. What he saw when he arrived... "What. I....what. This is my dad's fault. Somehow. I just know it." He took stock of the situation, and noted the other heroes present. They all quickly felt the mental equivalent of a combination ringtone and doorbell. Assuming they didn't actively resist, they'd hear Thoughtspeed's voice in their head. 'So on a scale of 1 to Nope this is at least a near-Nope, but I think we ought to do something. Name's Thoughtspeed. Who all am I talking to? I'm fast, sneaky, and I can hit harder than it looks, if that helps ups plan.'
  22. "We called it being boxed. Though my folks have grounded me a couple of times. Got a bit snappy with them on a bad day." Well that's a cheery thought, and Erick's an imaginative young man, he can probably deduce what it means. Still, at least things are more normal for him? At any rate, the dour teen was looking about the market area without really looking at anything, seemingly just taking in the sights for a few moments. Finally, he spoke again. "Let's go for whichever clothing stall is more tucked away, and/or can lead to a full hidden door. I think the one more toward the market's center can do that. Probably underground tunnels?"

  24. EP, what all do you want me to start rolling? Or should we just go with RP for now?
  25. Should I be making another roll, or just have Alek guess/pick a booth?
