I can hold off on making any rolls but Nevermore's not going to make speeches or threats, he's just going to beat people unconscious.

Icy, snowy days like this were always one of two extremes for crime-fighting. Either almost no crime happened (though accidents always did) because the weather was miserable and nobody wanted to be out in a mess like that. Or you had a day like today where the weather was apparently perfect cover for nasty goings-on. Boss Lady had gotten a ping in their systems back at the Rookery that there was a cell phone black hole on the Mangold Bridge. And by "cell phone", it was quickly apparently it was actually "any signal at all". That didn't sound like standard procedure for anyone, but especially not when an armored car is scheduled to be moving across that bridge. He was already en-route when Boss Lady signaled that there had been some sort of wreck. "She and I need to talk about our definition of the phrase "some sort of wreck"." His graveled voice grouched to himself as he navigated the Talon among the snarl of vehicles. The wide tires crunched merrily along the snow, ice, and bits of glass, their high-performance material not even close to being punched through. He saw the truck that was just-too-perfectly across the road, and the helicopter hovering overhead. His eyes narrowed behind lenses, and he reached down to his belt. A folding filter mask was slotted into his cowl, sealing him against at least light airborne agents (if there were nerve agents in play they had bigger problems), and making his appearance even more menacing besides. He eyeballed the snarl around him, then suddenly angled his bike over to one side. Hopping up onto the walkway that ran along the side of the bridge, he raced along beside the traffic, until he was just in the right spot.... The next thing Endeavor knew there was a decidedly non-standard bike roaring through the air, a dark shape on its back, a cloak whipping in the icy wind. It skidded to a stop, the front facing the driver's compartment of the car. The compartment where a woman lay murdered by the hand of one of the mercenaries. The mercs and Endeavor both could somehow sense that this was the wrong thing to have happened, as the figure on the bike went unnaturally still for a few moments. And then suddenly that same figure was zipping through the air on a high-performance high-speed ascender line, aiming to tackle whichever mercenary was holding the gun that had killed the driver.

Sun Walker moved at a more sedate pace over to the others, his arms crossed in a thoughtful posture, his expression rather unreadable (not helped by his not-quite-human facial features), and the last foot or so of his tail twitching in the air behind him. He eyed the rather tense atmosphere for a few moments before speaking. "Meatheral is correct. At this time hostility within our group is undesirable. We can have a calm discussion later to clear misunderstandings and other matters. I sympathize with the indignities occurring today, but what we should seek now is a way to prevent further such injustice, and more importantly, stop whatever, whoever is doing this before it goes further. Though I must confess confusion and curiosity about such activity out here. It does not seem a...tactical or strategic?...site, necessarily."

Tagging this thread tonight, IC post tomorrow.

I think Nevermore could fit well into this; he's the same PL as Uplink, and non-powered mercs seems like a good matchup for not-Robin.

So, I'll be around about as much as always during the day today (though as always on weekdays, no chat, feel free to PM me though). But tonight I'm doing another ride-along with the local police (part of my VIPS orientation). And tomorrow I'm moving, which means really my time will be pretty spotty for a couple days at least.

A mighty happy birthday to you, Thevshi! (And all the other folks who've had recent birthdays!)

I think it's certainly possible; there's probably a few comic book storylines that do something similar (tie up a particular group for a longer period of time and make them unavailable for "crossover" titles), though moreso back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s (before crossovers became the default). I think the key is figuring out a good group to do it with. You need to ask a few questions to figure that out (well, you and the other players, really). A few suggestions but not an objective, definitive list: -What characters can afford to be tied up for longer periods? Now, this is (as most of them will be) something of a meta-question. But this looks at whether the character can financially afford it, socially afford it, academically afford it, etc. A really rich character who doesn't need to work? No problem. A really poor character who just kind of subsists on odd jobs? Actually, not a big problem! But a middle class 9-5 job type with only a few days of vacation, probably not so much! Claremont students might have problems if it's not set in the summer (or even then). -What characters would do well on long treks like this? Does the character need a steady stream of material supplies or some sort of "support system" to keep them at their best? This could be Complication fodder, but it's a knife-edge balance in my mind; a character who can't actually contribute to combat for multiple threads isn't much fun, really. Also, getting an extra HP in every single thread might get a bit silly after a while, but that's also just me. -What characters would do well on a globe-trotting adventure? Is your character suited to adapting to multiple places and environments and cultures? Some "culture shock" is good, but taken too far it can be taxing. As well, it's good to be able to help out with the goals of various stages of the adventure. -How will your character do interacting with new people and forming a semi-impromptu group? For the GM in particular: -How will they interact with local hero teams, if at all? -How will they interact with UNISON? -What sorts of "pot-stirring" might result from this string of super-fights across Europe? Again, totally doable here in my mind. Possibly a good way to shake status quo a bit! But definitely not a thread to just jump into without looking.

Gabriel's expression was close to Gaian Knight's. "Even if they don't have overly man exotic abilities available, I would be worried about the sheer numbers. Certainly you can withstand more punishment, but just how much? And will your own dimensional abilities work as well the further away from home you get? On the other hand I'm not sure any of the rest of us would be equipped to survive over-long in that place.." He looked down the hole with a critical eye. "How many of these portal are there, and just how extreme will we need to be to close them all?"

Cobalt Templar's eyes narrowed a bit as Midnight just kind of blazed over to the pewter structure. Still, going on the offense was clearly the best option. "Worst case, try making a funnel, Edge. Then the ladies can smash them. I'm going to go support Midnight. And get a closer look at that structure. Something's weird here." There was a trail of fire behind him, and then there was a fiery blue metal giant crashing down on the cluster of spiders heading toward Midnight. With contemptuous ease, he was kicking and punching and tossing and crushing the spiders as if they were made of paper. Several were crushed flat. A few just kind of disintegrated at the sheer, raw force being put out. Then suddenly there was a slight, momentary gap in the spiders. The metal giant stomped over to the pewter pillar, tilting its head as it examined the runes and carvings. "Bought us a couple of minutes. Let's see what we've got here." After a few moments of study, the giant straightened abruptly and looked at Midnight, a bit of alarm showing through the projected eyes. "These are Lemurian runes of binding. And not nice ones, either. But...I can't read Lemurian. We need Aquaria over here. Now."

Do I need to make any rolls or checks to fly over to where Midnight is, crush a few bugs, and be able to see the various runes on the spire? Obviously I'd make checks to interpret the runes.

So, uh, just FYI, Gabe's gonna be using some classical literature to be the fluff text of his Inspire. And by "classical literature" I mean "Shakespeare". And by "Shakespeare" I mean "The Saint Crispin's Day Speech from Henry V". So, ah, yeah. That could get a bit wall-o-text-y, I acknowledge that. Just let me know how you'd like me to split it up or whatnot. In my mind, ideally, he'd start it up (and burn the HP to have everyone start combat with Inspire running) right before the boarding ships hit or whatnot. But if you'd prefer we start posting in init order, that's cool too. (I make no apologies for my choice of speechification; Caron's classically trained, damn it!)

Seriously dude you're doing awesome work here. Feel free to use any of my characters if the inspiration so strikes you! EDIT: I also need to echo the kudos for Nick's picture. All of the stuff you've put up here is good, but I think that one really nails it.

Well, then the reroll is done, HP is burned, which puts him at 5HP at this point.

"I believe I recall the show in question, Arrowhawk. It was entertaining if a bit formulaic." He had smoothly dropped the Scottish archer when they approached the battlefield, curling his tail back about his person. He took just a few moments to survey the enemy forces, such as they were. In those few moments, a couple of the "mummies" had been dropped and Arrowhawk had had an assault upon his personage. Sun Walker frowned. Then he was a blur of motion and was next to another of the cybernetic (such as it were) creatures, his fists and feet flashing out in a dazzling display of deft and skilled martial arts knowledge. Even his tail seemed to provide a lash or two in the brief-yet-overwhelming assault. "Disturbing remains of the deceased in this manner is most disrespectful. While I find it distasteful to have to strike them, whoever you are controlling them has forced my hand. I find this...displeasing." The guy was so polite that had to be the closest he could come to smack talk. It was kind of sad, really.
-
Hm. Let's see... Move Action: Get up in the face of the next-closest Anti-Mummy. Free Action: Power Attack for 5. Standard Action: Unarmed Melee Attack: 19. If that hits without a reroll, that's a DC 25 Toughness Save. If that doesn't hit, then Hero Point Reroll: 16, which becomes 26 with the reroll bonus. So the same DC would apply. So ideally I hit without burning a Hero Point, but if I gotta burn one, I burn one.

Cobalt Templar frowned as he blazed across the sky at high speeds, quickly getting a fairly thorough picture of the situation. After a couple more passes, he sped back to where Trevor was standing. He glanced back at the barricaded campus, his eyes narrowed. "They're not moving like military units. I would only loosely call what they're doing a pattern; it's pretty much just "grab as much stuff as possible in a short of a time as possible". Maybe like ants? Might change once we start burning them." Apparently hearing about the death of the defenseless transient man, he was not in the best mood. "Aquaria's got a point, though. Those things aren't new, they're old. Or at least, they look old. I think I've seen stuff sort of like them in a few Atlantean art pieces I've gotten a chance to view. Which just raises more worrisome questions."

Gabriel's own face was set in a grim line. "Good ideas. But we have to send out a warning, too. Give me a minute." He rushed over to a nearby communication console, speaking softly to the couple of nervous techs for a few moments more. Then he typed a few things on the touch-screen next to one of the techs before walking over to a headset with an included microphone. The silver-clad hero pressed a button, waited a moment, then spoke. His voice was calm and filled with authority. "This is Gabriel, from the Freedom League. If you are receiving this message, you are one of our emergency contacts with the world's governments and militaries. You know we've all been on high alert these past few months. Well, now is the time for that alert to pay off. The expeditionary force sent out by the Freedom League is holding back the majority of the Communion forces at the far edge of the Solar System. However, a small contingent of enemy forces is heading toward Earth, having bypassed the blockade. Those of us on the Lighthouse will be doing everything in our power to divert, distract, and destroy the Communion forces en route now. But you and yours need to be ready to help fight back any forces that leak past. I have full confidence not only in my own team's ability to succeed today, but also in the ability of all of you to do the same. Earth has beaten back many other threats. This one will be no different. Now Godspeed, and get ready." With that, he terminated the connection, turning toward the others. In lieu of another comment, he simply shrugged.

I'd seen a couple other threads say something like that, but I may be mis-reading or mis-remembering. Lots of things going on in all these threads! Anyways, that's what I needed, thank you.

So, I'm going to have Gabriel go to the comms and try to send an urgent warning to various contacts on the planet, since it sounds like the Communion forces are moments away from appearing. OOC I know the Lighthouse goes dark any time now. IC Gabriel doesn't know that. Will him attempting to use the comms work, fail before it starts, cut out halfway in between? I kind of want to incorporate whatever it is into my post, if possible.
