  1. Just let me know if any rolls are needed for that, but that's basically a fluffing of switching from Drain Toughness to Blast, FWIW.
  2. Gabriel had thought he'd been prepared for any new horrors on the top floor, but the sight of the horribly transformed bug-woman-secretary very nearly broke his tight control over his own stomach. Only closing his eyes for a moment and breathing from under one gloved hand for several deep breaths helped. The supernaturally-clean outfit probably lessened the smell just a tad. Another small blessing to give thanks for once this was all over. Normally, he would disapprove of Frost's rather bloodthirsty (irony intended) suggestions. In this case, he was finding it hard to disagree. That said, he had a couple of minor alterations to suggestion. "If there's anything or anyone that seems sapient and coherent, they should be left for questioning for the time being. And instead of someone stubbing a toe on the door, allow me to knock." With that, the angel-inspired man floated forward and up the incline a bit before stopping. Giving in to his natural flair for drama, he twirled his glowing spear once before leaving the point facing the ground, his now-free right hand facing the door palm-first, fingers splayed. The others could hear, and almost feel, the hum of sonic energy he emitted. For about three seconds, the heavy wooden doors shook in their frame, the rattle building up moment by moment. Then they just exploded into sawdust and splinters, all of which flew into the room beyond.
  3. Most people wouldn't catch the shrug Alek gave The Guest Instructor. Most people weren't the sober young man with sunglasses. The young Armenian/Ossetian man knew the other vigilante (that was his best guess as to what, in general, The Guest Instructor did most of his time). His face relaxed the slight tension it had gained at his bit of gallows humor being fairly well-received. He did lift his somewhat bushy eyebrows just a touch, and maybe the corner of one side of his mouth, at the comment about curiosity. "That's what my teachers keep saying. Guess it's not lethal to birds, even if it is to felines." He decided to be just a touch bold, and took the two large steps necessary to enter the currently-inactive Doom Room. He turned his gaze slightly toward The Guest. "Need any info or gear before starting?" Obviously the young man sought to be prepared himself, and help his short-term teach be prepared as well.
  4. Gabriel shook his head at the suggestion from Comrade Frost. "That goes back to saying too much without context. Maybe 5, 10 years ago that would have been a viable option. But now? We're in the age where "online leaks" are serious news stories, and if it's confirmed that the League, or someone connected to someone connected to someone connected to someone in the League leaked it, then they'll take it as 100% true and accurate. It'll just cause even more panic because instead of looking secretive, we'll look apathetic. Though maybe giving a bit of basic background info over the website would be good, just so people don't feel like we're throwing out made-up space words or something. What about, at least initially, saying there's issues in the Lor Republic related to a new conflict and the League is sending members to aid and investigate, or something along those lines? It's entirely true, but it doesn't delve too deeply into the scope of things. Questions about the nature of the conflict can be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, but we probably don't want to throw out mention of planet-busters. At most, just say it's a large-scale force that's composed of unknowns and that needs serious attention." The Irishman looked hopeful they could reach some sort of compromise here. He had flashbacks in his mind to the last few times there were riots and unrest thanks to threats from external forces, and they weren't fun memories.
  5. The front door was tempting, but ultimately not viable. He might be able to stay undetected and he certainly could move in without opening anything, but most likely he would be in less-than-ideal CQB territory and wouldn't really have a place to hide himself. And if some of the guests weren't criminals or thoroughly corrupt (a remote possibility in his mind considering the reputation of this man, but not impossible by any stretch), he'd rather not have to deal with them so quickly. Better to have this wrapped up before any cops arrived. The kitchen window didn't have the trouble of loads of guests, but it was even more likely to be immediately inhabited than the front entryway. Even trying to "sneak a peak" had risk. The upper balcony was extremely tempting, but it might also be a lookout point for guards; thankfully the men on the lawn were thoroughly hidden at this point, so that wouldn't cause a ruckus right away. But the cellar door may well provide access to more than just canned goods. And it was less likely to be inhabited. So with that decided, the young vigilante moved both swift and silent across the shadowed grass around the house until he came to the cellar doors. First, he tested them, gently, to see if there was a lock or some other mechanism barring entry, while hopefully making no noise. If the doors seemed free to open, he would carefully open one at a time, doing his best to mitigate any creaks or noise. In fact, if he could fit through with only one open, all the better. The whole time, his lenses glowed softly, the darkness around him bright as the noonday sun as far as he was concerned.
  6. Will just gave a grin as he also started working to at least mostly match Kat's pace of eating-while-communicating. "Nice to meet you, Kat and Van. And yeah, we're the dreaded competition." He waggled his eyebrows a bit, but his gaze briefly drifted to the capes they both wore, before going back to holding the gaze of the other speedster. "So, gotta ask. What's with the capes? Does it mean you guys are seniors or something? Or just competing tomorrow?" So much for subtlety.
  7. Let me know if you need a check or checks from Alek here.
  8. With the group in agreement, a smiling and humble Gabriel took a very slight lead, with Velocity and Triakosia close behind, as the heroes walked into the room with the hostages. Somehow, even without using his whispering far-speech, Gabriel exuded a sense of calm and hope to all those close by. Even his companions could sense it, though it was nowhere near as strong to them. It wasn't mind control; it was just...presence. The man in white and silver took a few moments to survey the collection of human beings before finally he spoke, his voice somehow managing not to be raised while still being heard by all in the room. "Would it be possible to speak with the flight crew of the airliner, please?"
  9. It took Nevermore a few moments to shake his head and let his ears get back to something approaching normal; being in that space when an explosion went off did no favors for your hearing. 'Good thing Boss Lady's got friends who have cutting-edge med-tech. At this rate I'm gonna need some new eardrums.' That sardonic thought got him up and moving, and he went over to the new wall of the cave. He was just able to make out the old German man's voice. He raised his own, somehow exuding calm despite the situation. "I can hear you. I'm intact. Going to try clearing a path from this side." With that, he applied his fit but not super-powered muscles to the task of attempting to clear away some of the debris in front of him. Perhaps between his own efforts and Vonnie's, it wouldn't take hours for him to see the sky again...
  10. Thoughtspeed's up for a joint Vignette. Nevermore's going solo on this one, though. Gotta think about who I want him to trounce.
  11. Excellent, excellent. Sun Walker is my absolute top priority for getting into a thread. In particular my end goal is that he has the opportunity to go out into SPACE! and start SPACE! adventures. Because SPACE!. If the Liberty League ends up having a thread happen, then I want Cobalt Templar in on the action there. Otherwise I'm fine leaving him in the background for a bit. In the same way, if the Freedom League has a group thread, then I want Gabriel in on that action, though he's probably the lowest priority at the moment.
  12. So yeah, got a laptop, but we're at T-2 days and counting, so, pretty much going dark for a while. Final prep, big day, honeymoon, then starting a new job with new hours (which is good, but I gotta re-figure my internal clock). Take care, folks.
  13. Can Alek move around much or is he pretty much trapped in a box?

  15. Gabriel had offered quick greetings and a handshake when introduced to Arthur, before proceeding with the others to the GBN building. When they opened the lobby doors, his face paled (no mean feat considering his normally pale complexion), and his gave a small gulp, clearly managing to only just hold down his most recent meals. Unconsciously, he began floating a few inches above the ground, his legs still walking as if on solid ground. His eyes were half-lidded even as there was a slight white haze over them, the blessings of his armor giving him sight that made the shadows clear as day, while his ears listened for things the others wouldn't hear. He stopped as they gazed at the map, giving a slight sigh. "Any reason Knight couldn't lift the rest of you up while I fly point? Save a bit of energy, anyways."
  16. Gabriel listened as the others spoke, seeming to weigh the words of both Gaian Knight and Tiamat regarding the idea of spreading the word. "Perhaps we can attempt a sort of middle ground? Simply announcing that a planet was destroyed in Lor space, and oh no the fleet might be coming here? That's asking for a panic. Perhaps we can simply start preparing a series of press releases, for various situations. Plus, if we're going to have several members gone for more than a couple days, people are going to notice. Most members of the League are pretty high-profile to some degree or another. Having a half-dozen heroes stop showing up anywhere on the globe for a week is going to make people curious. Rumors are going to fly. And that's putting aside the possibility of information leaks from one place or another. We don't need to give the people a blow-by-blow, but trying to lie and say some of the League are gone is foolish too. Those of us who are still here just need to make it clear we won't have any tolerance for...shenanigans...from the less savory elements of the planet. Meanwhile, the actual announcement is brief, simple, to the point, and not overly alarmist."
  17. "No thanks. Not my type." It was fairly easy for Nevermore to bob and weave around the man's strikes. For a thief, they were pretty good. For a weaponized human being like the young vigilante, they were only mediocre. He just had to wait for a moment... "Should be careful of insects, though. Some have stings." Suddenly, in a whirl of motion and cape, he darted forward. His fist lashed out in a punch, but became a quick grab at the other man's wrist. Nevermore's gauntleted hand made contact, but was shaken off fairly rapidly. The young man opted to slide back a bit, keeping himself in a good position for both offense and defense. "Hm. Acceptable defenses for close-quarters combat for a cowardly thief."
  18. Let's see, Reflex DC 15: 12. Toughness, DC 20: 13.
  19. Gabriel nodded as Gaian Knight and Tiamat spoke, looking a bit abashed. Honestly, he felt a bit out of his depth trying to plan out complicated military manuevers. Negotiating with criminals? Sure. Talking down an emotionally distressed potential jumper? Right up his alley. Defusing tense political talks? He had a plan for that. Assaulting insect-infested office buildings? Not so much. Then Fleur called, and Gabriel decided to bypass his earpiece and use his own powers more directly. The various FLAux members would hear his voice in their ears, but no one else would. "This should do in a pinch. Just come back to the portal; we're still talking tactics right now. If you've got information that would help us figure things out a bit."
  20. Gabriel hummed thoughtfully. "So Tiamat and the bees make a lot of noise, fire, and trouble. While the three of us left over try to slip into the tower unnoticed? Seems workable." He glanced at the bees as well, much less nervous than the first few times he'd been around them. Then he looked at Frost, a frown forming at the thought of nuclear detonations. "Putting aside how much I don't want to use nuclear weapons in general, we don't really have access to any of them here. Not easily, that is. That said, maybe we can focus enough power on a portal to let you close it anyways."
  21. "Fleur. Calm down. Please, I know this is scary and sudden, but we'll be okay." He gave her a reassuring smile, and his voice was itself a calming effect in the room. His eyes carried worry, but he did not seem panicked. His next words seemed to be addressed more generally. "The Star Knights are mobilizing. The Lor Republic is hurt but not gone. And we have dozens of fantastic scientific minds on Earth. But perhaps most of all, we have warning. We have time. That's going to be what gives us an edge." He paused, then nodded toward the senior League membership who were going on to help the Star Knights. "Time, and the information our fellow Leaguers will be sending to us once they're in the field. Earth isn't a stellar power, it's true, but we've got loads of heroes here. I think our chances are pretty good."
  22. Nevermore has learned the lesson that if some punk tries to punch you, you punch him back. Or in this case, choke him. Melee Attack: 29. That ought to hit, so... Grapple Check: 15. Boo. Well, we'll see how that shakes out...
  23. Will went through the line and got a tray that was stacked pretty high with food. Lots of meats, veggies, and rice. He was actually pretty hungry for real, and saying "I'm a speedster" does wonders for getting cranky cafeteria ladies to give you food. He glance around... And was sitting across from the girl and boy, a big grin on his face. There was a blur, and an egg roll was gone, while his fork poked at some still-steaming beef to roll it into some sauce, his spoon working vegetables into a small pile of rice. "Heya! My name's Will. How's it going?"
  24. Yeah just use the one I rolled already.
  25. Gabriel had, thankfully, already swallowed his previous sip of enhanced coffee when the news of an entire planet being killed was put on the table. Instead of choking or spitting, he just blinked rapidly several times, processing the information. Finally, he calmly set his cup down and spoke up. "i think the question of "could" is pretty obvious, Fleur. If they can summon up the resources this initial assault must have taken, they can certainly come here. So the question isn't "could", it's "when", and possibly "why"." He paused, and smiled a bit ruefully. "And, of course, "What is the Freedom League's plan to deal with this crisis?"."
