  1. Will noticed their "guide" giving Cho a glare, and barely resisted the urge to groan and shake his head. It wasn't that he didn't agree in principle with the sentiment she had voiced; it was that he was aware these were Not Nice People, and that they had to be careful. It seemed like he was the only kid on this plane who thought this way. Probably because of how uptight his parents had been about the trip. He was a rebellious enough teen that he'd dug his heels in and insisted he should go, that he'd be okay, that there would be adults present, and so forth. But he was smart and perceptive enough to discern his parents didn't get like that for no reason. More so even than his slight natural caution around officers of the law, Will was cautious in this place. Which was why he unconsciously leaned back a bit when some dude just came up and sniffed him. His nerves meant he couldn't help his mumble. "What's he so uptight about? I showered this morning and everything. Didn't even go for the Axe spray." Not that he normally did anyways, but still. He couldn't help the slight bit of awe that sprang onto his face as they moved into a dormant volcano that was apparently now an entire city! It was harsh, and stark, and kind of scary, but it was also pretty cool to a teenager who'd seen a lot of gee-whiz wow-golly stuff in his life so far. Even the statues, while intimidating, were kind of impressive. Well made and sturdy-looking, if nothing else. The building, which turned out to be a harsh military academy, was actually less impressive. The sheer dull coloring made his very subdued outfit (khakis and a polo) feel wildly colorful and over-dressed. The Headmistress with the ironic name at least had some personal style in her outfit. Not many folks tried to pull off the armored look these days. For the moment, he just gave a polite not-quite-bow toward the woman, deferring to the Claremont staff with the group as to whether they were supposed to speak or not.
  2. Thoughtspeed managed to turn the drop into a semi-graceful roll, and found himself crouched, breathing hard for a few moments to make sure his ribs hadn't powdered or some such gruesome fate. Once satisfied with his body's relatively intact state, he stood up with great purpose and determination, twin blades of green energy shining to life in his hands. Tracery of green light wrapped around his body. "I am sick of this tin can." And then he was just a black-and-green blur of motion across the ground. For a few moments, he became visible as he raced around the legs of the robot, his blades seeking purchase wherever they could find it, striving to rip and tear panels and cables and wires and pistons (or the equivalent) and render the thing lame or worse. Then, after the furious assault of several moments, he was a blur across the ground as he raced many yards away, turning back to face the robot and determine the effectiveness of his assault.
  3. Woops my bad this got lost in the shuffle. Let's see. Free Action: Set Array to Twin Blades. Free Action: All-Out Attack for 5. Attack is now +16, Defense is +6. Free Action: Power Attack for 5. Attack is +11, base damage is DC 20, now 25, with Autofire. Move Action: Use Move-By-Attack to hit the robot then put some distance between it and Thoughtspeed. Standard Action: Melee Attack: 20. Ugh. That's pretty lame. If that does hit, then no reroll, but if that misses, going for an HP Reroll: 30. So yeah. DC 25 Toughness save, plus Autofire if it can pop up there.
  4. Gabriel only just managed to avoid giving a low whistle at the sight of the crater-city. Still, his eyebrows rose as he took in the sight. His motionless lips didn't impede his voice from carrying to the other two heroes. "Not a bad guess, Velocity. These folks seem smart enough they wouldn't use something useless for armor and weapons. I just hope the passengers are in better shape than the plane." He lapsed silent for a moment, and when he next spoke his words seemed chosen with special care, though again only the two heroines could hear him. "I know I'm normally the one to take the lead on these sorts of talks, but you may need to step up a bit, Velocity. Though, if their Queen can speak English, I should be able to keep the charm up enough it won't be a big issue." From what Velocity, at least, had seen of Gabriel's charm in the past, that seemed a safe guess.
  5. Cobalt Templar landed a couple feet to the right of the Night Sled, his mouth curved down into a slight frown, but one eyebrow raised. He was figuring this guy was some metahuman, maybe part of some sort of splinter faction of New Freedom. When he heard the bit about "our minds", his arms uncrossed, his posture shifting a bit. Somewhere between pulling down the mask and trilling out a name so alien most human tongues couldn't even properly give it form, Corbin had taken two steps back, his feet leaving steaming impressions in the ground as flickers of flame moved across his armored body. His pupils dilated a bit, and his eyes seemed to move around, as if viewing a movie only he could see. "תועבה!" His arms moved up into a cautious, defensive stance. "Ich werde Ihre schrecklichen precence von der Erde zu durchkämmen mit reinigenden Flamme!" And then suddenly he was holding a flamethrower, complete with backpack tank. He pointed the weapon at the...person...who was trying to help the Liberty League, still caught up in his fever-dream of a memory! "You're not hurting anyone here, foul servant of the Elder Things!" Someone should probably stop him.
  6. Becase creepy tar-like shapeshifts in Antarctica is the sort of thing rife with this sort of potential, I am invoking Corbin's "Young Veteran" Complication (checked with TT in Chat about this). He's gonna make diplomacy a bit harder for the gang! Stupid war memories!
  7. Nevermore just tilted his head as they jumped, gazing down as the men arrested their falls with some sort of force field or anti-gravity technology. Which certainly made one question their apparent need for the tech housed in this building...Still, they were interesting little toys. Nevermore himself had some toys as well. With a flick of his wrist, a grapnel anchor was wrapped around the railing, and he himself jumped into open air before beginning his descent. He didn't have the luxury of stopping on a dime, so he lost a couple of precious seconds applying the internal brakes on his grapnel mechanism. Still, it was a smooth dive that left him ready for action as he stopped just behind where the men were gaining their footing again. "I can do this all day." His cape settled around his shoulders, his figure a bit more menacing. "Surrender."
  8. Aleksander seemed to accept the ensuing silence, glad that his answer hadn't somehow "disappointed" The Guest. As for the alumnus taking in his surroundings, such a reflex didn't seem odd at all to the young "sidekick". After all, that same sort of situational awareness, a constant vigilance (Boss Lady kept smirking when she said that and he hadn't figured out why yet, but Boss Man never explained it, just shook his head and muttered about "kids these days"), had been trained in him from infancy. The Blood Dragon Society didn't want weapons that ignored their environment, and being conscious of what was around you, and what was going on in that space, was just as crucial for a crime-fighter who relied on skill and wits more than layers of armor to do their job. When he saw The Guest move toward the cafeteria, he raised an eyebrow, but followed without missing more than about a quarter-step, mostly due to not knowing ahead of time the direction they would be going (that is, not directly toward the training facility). He was sure this was some other sort of Lesson or Test. Probably with a capital letter in front and everything.
  9. Nevermore nodded once to Evan. "Thank you for your cooperation. Have a good day at work." And with a swirl of cape and a whir of a grapnel line, he was gone from the roof and back next to the hunted Detective, the paper secure in his belt once again. He turned to her, his face grim. "Well it took some doing but I've got my information. Apparently a gentleman named Ivan down at the Opera House is our money-handler. Between that, and this paper, which orders your...termination...I think we have enough to at least get some momentum on our side. I'll let Boss Lady know, but we should probably get moving toward the House." Nevermore began moving down the alley, toward another darkened street, a goal clearly in mind.
  10. Gabriel's face did not display the expression of someone who liked Aires's excuse. "You lot caused the storm. You lot attacked the convoy. You thought yourselves above the law, above your fellow men and women." A low hum surrounds his body now as the levels the point of the spear at Aires. "But then, that's why we are here. To correct your misunderstandings. To teach you the error of your ways. You face one of the mightiest groups on the face of this planet, and already we are finding the whole lot of you...wanting." That's when a barrage of sonic bolts fly from the tip of his spear to slam into the body of the helmet-wearing speedster with more force than most mortal weaponry can conjure up.
  11. Right, time to switch up tactics a bit. Free Action: Switch Array to Blast. Full Round Action: Inspire! Once again, all y'all get +5 to attacks, saves, and checks. Uh, minus Fleur. Sorry Electra! Free Action: Extra Effort! Surge for another Standard Action! And of course, waiving the Fatigue by way of HP expenditure. Standard Action: Ranged Attack vs Aires: 20. Garn it. HP Reroll! 19, which becomes a 29 with the Reroll bonus. Assuming THAT hits, that's a base save DC of 27, with Autofire stacking in as it can. So that's a net HP spend of 3, with 2 remaining when I start my next turn starts.
  12. SAILING THE SOLAR WINDS by Thevshi Some fairly minor edits for >Cobalt Templar. Really, I'm just bringing him into line with our House Rules on Space Travel. Here's the current version of his flying: And here's what I've made it: 23PP both ways, it's just that in the newer iteration he's always on Flight 10, and his Space Travel is slow enough he can't do true interstellar flight (which is fine). He could, however, justify doing some sort of orbital hop or the like. Also a Container, because I love Containers. >Here's the "final draft" for reference. (I'm not spending my 2 free PP just yet.)
  13. Gabriel let out a huff of air as the speeding villain slammed a high-velocity blow into his armored torso. It sent him skidding back along the ground, and he actually started to roll. Between his years of practice at rolling with blows, and his innate ability to fly, he managed to take control of the roll and produce a rather dramatic somersault that he ended in a slight crouch, spear held out behind him. His natural flair for stage presence seemed to be instinctive these days. He actually gave a smile at the whole scene. His whole person radiated confidence, and as he floated up, his voice rang out over the fight (but not the whole town). "Ha! Was that the best you had, Aires? Also, you're mistaken. We didn't come here to face you." He points his spear at the man, his coat flapping in the breeze, cutting a dashing figure without even trying. "We came here to beat you. We're the Freedom League, and we can beat two-bit chumps like you lot on an off day. I'm not one for horoscopes, but I imagine yours wasn't the best today." Suddenly, Aires would feel his person lashed by an unseen force. His whole body felt the subtle vibrations, trying to get his nervous system to lock up. "We'll beat each and every one of you, then we'll help the fine people of this town get back to their normal lives."
  14. Acrobatics Check to try and land on my feet: 24. I'll fluff that as his Flight helping things. On to my turn! Free Action: Switch Array to Ranged Paralyze. Full Action: Inspire! -1 of my HP. +5 to everyone nearby (this is going to end up not including Fleur) to basically all the things. Free Action: Extra Effort to Surge! I'll be burning an HP to keep from Fatigue, so my net HP after this will be 4. Standard Action: Ranged Attack vs Aires: 30. That probably hits! That's gonna be a DC 23 Will Save against a Paralyze effect. EDIT: Changing up my action economy a bit. Forgot Inspire is a Full not a Standard. So Gabriel is still technically standing, and is in the same place he was knocked back to.
  15. Will bristled at being told to stay behind by his father. He'd outrun a pack of angry Tyrannosaurs, but he couldn't ride along underground. "But I-" Then his father said "no buts", and he all but slammed his mouth shut, crossing his arms over his chest in an unmistakably teeanger-ish way. Then he caught his father's glance at his mother, and managed to hide his wince. His mother didn't talk about why, not really, but he knew she didn't like underground, or tighter spaces. One nerve-wracking trip through a long tunnel on a highway taught him that much. "Yeah. Fine. Okay. I'll...keep watch. And you better bring back an autograph."
  16. So, putting him out there, but my boy >Daniel Lee here will be in need of a crew to join. I'm still working out his details, but he will be a good electrician, with an emphasis in power systems. So if a ship needs an engineer or an extra engineer, he might fit. I'm probably going to wait and see how many overall space characters we get and how the teams (or "teams") shake up before making any final-ish decisions, though.
  17. Time for HAM. Gabriel Notice Check: 21. Gabriel Initiative: 18. Also, Gabriel's gonna do a bit extra. Array's set to his wide-area Communications power (gotta revise that at some point due to house rules). And he's using Bluff to try and trick one or more of the blokes in town int...monologuing. We'll just Skill Mastery that for 30 (at current "settings").
  18. Gabriel had flown most of the way, arriving just a few moments after Velocity on the final approach. However, he opted to land and being walking purposefully toward the barrier. His shining spear appeared in his right hand, and began tapping a steady rhythm on the ground in time with his steps. His face displayed determination and anger, both firmly in control. Finally, he stopped just a couple dozen yards from the barrier. His coat ruffled in the wind of Velocity's indirect strike upon the barrier. The sound controller seemed to think over something for a moment. *BOOM* His left hand had raised and flung a wave of energy at the barrier, breaking some of it down with a thunderclap similar to Velocity's. But clearly the Irishman wasn't finished; his voice rang out over the entire town, clear as a bell and nearly as loud. "Cowards! Villains! I name thee craven fools!" *BOOM* Another sonic strike, a bit more barrier disassembled. "You hold this town hostage, fearing your fate if you were to face the likes of us in the open!" *BOOM* Shattering some of the loose debris into powder. "Come forth! And face justice! Come forth and face your fate! Come, for vengeance from On High has come, and it is displeased with you!" *BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM* Three more strikes in quick succession. There was now a wider hole in the center of the barrier, clear of all but fine powder. Still, there was plenty still for the others to help contribute to the impromptu theater session.
  19. Well, I downsized the main "claimed" space on purpose, and put Earth where I did on purpose as well.
  20. Thoughtspeed shrugged when Brainclay mentioned his lack of speed. "You've got a more potent psi-gift, though, Brainclay. It's give and take." He smirked a bit at catching the irritated message from Brainclay's teammate. "I think all of us...visualize...things differently. All depends on the nature and potency of our gifts, really. I suppose I might get to the point I can fully sense minds around me, but right now the closest I have is more of a...I guess a "spatial sense" might be the best description." He raised an eyebrow as Brainclay worked to classify his "psi-frequency". "Phi-upsilon? I'll try to remember that." He was quiet for several moments when Brainclay asked about meeting his teacher. "That...will have to wait. I don't think I can just...arrange that. I will have to discuss it with them and see what they think." He clearly hadn't heard Magmatic casually speak a detail that he tried to keep secret, or close to secret, to Cho. Or he'd be much more paranoid about this group.
  21. Aleksander took a few moments to process the answer. Then he grinned, briefly; the display of teeth was a mix of amusement, approval, and a hope for future application of that very style. At first his ears strained to hear The Guest as he spoke, but after a few words and a settling into their current movement (and the noise it generated, however slight), it was easy for the younger crime-fighter. It seemed a test, but one he felt he was passing. At the question, he nodded affirmation. "My default. Lesson is up to the teacher, though." Respect and deference, despite the comparatively small age gap.
  22. Of the 3 presented so far, I like the one with yellow primary and black secondary (the left option of the two directly above) the most.
  23. Gabriel's expression wasn't just serious by the time the soldier and Velocity were done. It was thunderous. Clearly the situation displeased him. The faint hum of sonic energy around his body just reinforced that fact as he looked at the others. "We can try negotiation, but I have a feeling they won't be open to it." He thinks for a minute. "Perhaps we can have our cake and eat it too. Perhaps all of us but Fleur should strike openly at one of the barriers, draw their attention and the fight there, away from bystanders. Then Fleur slips in via plants to the church, gets the wounded there on the mend, and begins ensuring we have a fortified fall-back position." He shrugs a bit. "It's not perfect, but it has some weight, at least. Takes care of our two biggest worries."
  24. Will had been making high-speed circuits of the park area for the last bit of time, his presence little more than a background blur to the back and forth chaos of the fight. He had noticed that Cho had decided firing half-blind at the Jet Patrol ranked higher than getting a fellow student out of danger. --Damn it Cho! Get Errant and get-****!!!-- The last word was half-thought, half-shouted as Kyogen rammed a knife through Rain Spider's neck. The woman was still alive, though. Alive for a few ticks on the clock. That's all he needed. In a blur, Thoughtspeed was crouching over her, his hands gently grasping her neck. His voice was soothing in her mind and only her mind. --Calm down. Calm down. I'm here. I'm helping. I won't let you die.-- And then, with a surge of green light around his body, Will pushed his gift into the woman, at least partially. The raw kinetic power he had, the power that gave his body speed and formed weapons, was partially granted to her. Instead of big, flashy effects, he focused on strengthening her body and granting it a superhuman metabolism, and in incredibly-accelerated rate of healing. It might not totally purge the poison, but it would do enough for her to survive until he got her to an ambulance. With both grace and surprising alacrity, he had Errant secure over one shoulder, and Rain Spider over the other. He spared Clock Queen and Kyogen a glance. Somehow, Anna Cline knew the mysterious youth under that helmet was smiling. "Pardon me, ladies, these folks need to leave the party for now." And then he was gone in a blur of motion, racing for the edge of the park, his path darting back and forth as best as he could with his extra weight, looking for an ambulance, a doctor, a medic, someone.
  25. From our very own ShaenTheBrain in Chat. So that thing there? That's the crunchy-mechanical thing Will's doing with his Kinetic Blades Array. Yay stunts! IC to come when I'm home.
