Corbin had finished his food just in time for the end of the game. His trash had gone in the handy nearby receptacle, and he was on his way out. ...Right after this giant line of people slowly, so slowly, moved away. This was a time he wished he'd come in costume or something. But that would have been kind of obnoxious. Just a couple minutes after that thought crossed his mind, he reached the parking lot as the stadium had mostly emptied. And was promptly greeted with a sight that was one part terror, one part lumberjack-themed commercial, and one part Hot Fuzz joke. "Nazis. Why did it have to be Nazis." With that timeless quote, he ducked back into a shaded, isolated corner of the stadium's entryway section (which was by now deserted what with all the running away). It took only a moment for a blur of blue and maroon to roar out of the shadows across the parking lot, at speeds that might boggle many minds. Of course, it didn't end there. As the blur moved through the air, it actually grew, until just a few feet shy of the mad bomber what bombs at softball games, it resolved into a powerful, robotic-looking form decorated primarily in metallic blue, with strong secondary maroon coloring. It, he, wasn't far from the bomber now. "Come on you bushy-bearded coward, you're not dragging anyone but yourself to Hell today!" Perhaps he meant to all but fall on the bomber and try to absorb the blast?

Most folks in the stands were at least a bit sweaty. Certainly not drenched, but it was July, after all. Then there was that dude up in the back on the left side, sprawled over a couple of chairs (because it was the "nosebleed section") who was wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and hiking boots, topped off with sunglasses and a baseball cap (HIT, of course). The guy had the nerve to not only be scarfing down his third hot dog and second bag of popcorn, but not have so much as a single drop of sweat showing up. He seemed to be enjoying himself, though. Corbin wasn't usually one for baseball, but the mood had struck him, and considering his past experiences, a game to benefit veterans seemed like the perfect opportunity. He was hoping for a Myrmidons win, though he was gonna celebrate with a couple of those Snickers ice cream bars either way. (He loved his body's metabolism sometimes.) "Knock it outta the park, ladies! You got this one in the bag!" Admittedly the historical inspiration of HIT's team had tipped the scales on which over-priced hat he bought at the gift shop (extra donation included).

--Because if we get in the middle of that brawl we will probably die. Look, let's just lay low and play this by ear, so that we can...aw, crud.-- Cho felt the connection close off at that point. Will shrugged, his helmet obscuring his grimace at seeing his dad in this condition. "Maybe, maybe not, Dickie." 'I am so grounded for that one.' he thought to himself. Then his dad zoomed out in a huff, his grandmother zoomed out in a worried huff, Paulette Psion showed up in person, Cho acted like she was gagging, and Elias went and threw up in the bathroom. Leaving him to turn and look at Paulette with his featureless black helm leaning forward, one hand planted on it. "Yeah sorry about that. I guess the high-speed travel Clock Queen put us through didn't settle as well with them. So. A party. Is it going to be in here, or somewhere else? Name's Bill, by the way." Cho knew he never went by Bill, but some people did shorten "William" to "Bill", and considering the situation it's understandable he would use a slightly different name anyways.

Will gave a grunt at Coach's words. "Yeah my folks told me a little bit about this place. Everyone needs to stay on their toes; these folks think in twisty lines. Don't act scared, but keep your eyes open, that sort of thing. If we lose, we lose." He gave everyone else in the plan a grin that seemed genuine. Perhaps the barest flicker of worry. "After all it's not like I'm the fastest man alive. Yet."

Thoughtspeed didn't helmet-palm himself, but it was a near thing. Instead, he opted to zoom up, retract his helmet, and give the girl on the bench a wide, friendly smile. "Right, sorry this is a bit awkward. We're working with some older heroes on a sort of combination scouting/training mission for us. Learning the ropes and all that." 100% truth with 0% mention of Claremont the school. "The device my enthusiastic companion holds was detecting something over this way. Now, that doesn't mean you're an alien or anything. But I would like to ask if, before the last 5-10 minutes of your life right now, you've seen anything unusual over the past few days? Odd glows, weird metals or materials, people acting well outside the norm even for Freedom City? It's possible you simply moved through an area and picked up trace amounts of whatever that gizmo is picking up. If that's the case, said area is what we're really looking for. We can give you contact information in case it's determined there's anything even approaching a minor risk to your person and health, but if you're fine at the moment there shouldn't be an emergency-level need. I do apologize for the disturbance and potential worry our unplanned visit has potentially caused you." His smiled widened a bit as he offered her his hand. "You can call me Thoughtspeed, Miss...?"

Aleksander moved to one of the terminals, genuinely intrigued by the possibilities of this material. He knew bits and pieces of science himself, but wasn't quite as well-versed as his mentor, a fact they'd ultimately accepted in his training. Spreading himself too thin this early would just be harmful... He shook his head slightly as he typed away, trying to program the blob of material into a simplistic cityscape of Freedom City's skyline. As he typed and watched the material, he spoke up with a question. "You mentioned that the material is at least conceptually based on memory metals and Morphic Molecules, but that your final Moffat Molecules product is actually a plastic. Does it generally stand up to at least similar stresses as the inspiring materials? What sorts of places do you think this material would be useful for, besides classrooms and other learning environments?" He hoped the potential for demonstration and clarification in education and learning was obvious to their tour guide. He was also familiarizing himself with at least a simplified version of this company's native OS and GUI. He had a feeling computer searching would be something he'd be doing a lot of soon enough.

That was all Cobalt Templar needed to hear. His fiery aura flared just a bit, his cape grew a bit longer unconsciously (to add a bit of drama), and his wide-shouldered form barreled through the window, shattering stone and glass without so much as a flinch. He landed in a crouch, then slowly stood up, his fire swirling around and in his hands before coalescing into an intimidating, over-sized, two-handed hammer. He took a single step forward, clearing the way for Wraith and Ghost Girl to enter the space as well. "Your foul mind-magics will touch them no longer. Stop what you are doing. Or we will make you stop."

KnightDisciple's Character Scratchpad
KnightDisciple replied to KnightDisciple's topic in Character Building
To do list: -Gadgets: --Stun Gloves; something with LInked to melee Stun, maybe a Paralyze too. --Environmental Adaptation gear (more Immunity, that sort of thing). --"Tools of the Trade"; link to HQ for Library, plus Enhanced Feat: Improvised Tools or the like, plus maybe some Analytical vision or other extra senses, for ALL THE DETECTIVING. --Some sort of high-end Damage that takes a full action and such for Explosive Gel deployment device. --Some sort of Concealment, maybe a "super-camo cloak" or the like. -Skills: Refocus things a bit, dropping general techy-ness for a focus on Ninja and Detective. He can sneak, move, scare, and figure out mysteries. He can also do things with computers. But for technology in general, at most he's okay at breaking into places. -Feats: Maybe refocus those a bit too. --Look at Beginner's Luck and Jack of All Trades. -

Thoughtspeed continued to stand there nonchalantly, arms crossed over his chest, leaning against the kitchen counter. His close-range, tight-beam mental conversation continued. --Okay, I should have been clearer. The problem isn't being in South Africa during apartheid, though that's bad. The problem isn't being back in time with my dad before he was really with my mom, and not only is that still bad it's a path I am not letting my brain go down. No, see, the real problem is that sometime in the next couple of days, the Crime League, the Psions, and the Jet Patrol are going to throw down. It's gonna be bad. It's gonna kill people. It's gonna wreck this place. We. Are. Not. Ready. You, me, Errant, this is above our weight class. We gotta hook up and head out. Maybe it makes me a coward, but I don't want a part of this fight, and as much as it sucks, it already happened, and I like still existing, so we're gonna keep our hands off and noses clean.-- He hadn't worked out how they would get home yet, but it would come to him. Somehow.

"Ma'am, I can speak with absolute conviction of the truth when I say that our presence here today was in no way meant to cause you undue stress or hardship." He's more respectful than Anna's own son (right now)! Other than maybe the whole "featureless helmet" thing. "So, what's this about a party?" Thoughtspeed's voice was calm, and his mannerisms were, for the most part, calm (and Richard was probably drugged-up enough he didn't notice). But at the same time he was talking out loud, he was sending a "tight-beam" mental transmission to Cho (and only Cho). --Cho we have to lay low. This whole thing is gonna go south and it's gonna go south bad. Like, "multiple people dead" bad. We are back in the 80's in South Africa. And...crud, okay, the dude rolling joints and prepping wine coolers? That's my dad. The one who hauled me in? His mother, my grandmother. We are in straight-up Back to the Future world now and it is a bad thing. So we need to play it cool, link up with Elias, and try to, I dunno, just ditch this place. Or get back to our time. Hell I would settle for getting Clock Queen to yank us back to present day give or take a day or two. It's quick and dirty but it's what works.-- Cho could practically feel how his nerves were actually wound tighter than a steel spring.

KnightDisciple's Character Scratchpad
KnightDisciple replied to KnightDisciple's topic in Character Building
Time for HQ! The Rookery (Headquarters; Cave) (21EP) So, 21 EP requires 5 ranks of Equipment. Combined with the 18 ranks for the Unkindness, that's 23 ranks of that feat. 2 Vet rewards would net me 30 total ranks of the feat, which means I would have 7 more ranks (35 EP) to use as desired. Really, 39 EP, since this HQ is currently only 21 EP. This is of course the first draft (11:10ish am CST Saturday July 19). -
Happy Birthday, Thunder King and ChrisClark!

With his black helmet deployed, it was not possible for the cameras to capture Thoughtspeed's facial expressions. But they could capture his voice well enough. "THIS IS SO AWESOME!" The young man with speed enough for dozens was running at a pace just a bit faster than the Tyrant Lizard, the King of Dinosaurs. Though tempted to, he was not running backwards to taunt the creature. He was occasionally waving his arms to keep its attention, or bursting his speed to put a few dozen yards between them, stopping, and generally taunting the megafauna. "This thing is fast, but no way can it beat a car, let alone me! I almost feel sorry for it!" His erratic, zig-zagging pattern as he led the creature on a merry chase showed clearly that "almost", like in most things, didn't really count for much here.

Will grabbed his armrests a bit more tightly than normal for just a moment when they got buzzed by New Freedom fliers. "Not recording probably lets them spin it in their favor no matter what, and we won't have proof to back it up. Plus, while we'll observe some of what they can do, it'll be hearsay and not empirical recordings. That's my best guess. I just hope there's a race." He couldn't help but grin a bit. "I'd love to show them what a Cline can do on the ground."

Corbin eyed the strange mechanism, his initial nerves having calmed a bit. Slightly. He'd hopped multiple dimensions and done a bit of time-traveling as well. He'd faced enough things that weren't what they appeared at first, but instead were so much worse, that he was not exactly comforted by the idea this was just a "car battery". Time travelers were only slightly better. "One way or another, if that's just the car battery, it must be one hell of a car."

Nevermore blinked a few times as he thought he saw light reflecting into his eyes. It made him move to the edge of the roof and look down... Right as a man inside the window screamed his lungs out at something only he could see. Nevermore's shoulders tensed. "Prowlers. Besides us. Guess it's time to move inside." Without waiting for further notice from the others, he turned, fired a grapnel anchor onto a part of the rooftop, and swung out into the air away from the building. Those few seconds of "hang time" were enough for him to spot the openings. He adjusted his arc, swinging into one of the openings and landing with a crouch. He stood slowly, simply standing there for the moment. Glaring, with those glowing eyes of his. "Gentlemen."
-
Nevermore frowned. Part of him knew he should be able to figure out what that message meant. But it didn't quite "click" for his eyes and brain. Not yet. He folded up the letter and tucked it into a container on his belt for just such occasions. He cast his gaze around the room again, frown still on his face. There were so MANY placed information could be hiding. But which information? His eyes drifted back to the monitors. There was more than one person downstairs...but how many would really want to put up a fight against a costumed, armored superhero? Less-well-known or not, Nevermore wasn't the sort of figure you could quite ignore. But who to snatch?
-
Corbin's face set into a determined scowl as he listened to Loholo give more information. He nodded once. "Right then. Let's saddle up, ladies. Whoever this is, they have at least one, if not two, artifacts that let them mess with minds against people's wills. That's the kind of shenanigans we stop." He lifted into the air, his power tightly leashed so as to not cause undue stress toward Kimber, though his eyes were unconsciously covered with small sheets of blue flame (that didn't appear to impede his vision at all). Clearly the thought of this mysterious figure outright mind-controlling 3 civilians had him upset. "We have us a Sauron wannabe to throw down with. Ladies..." Suddenly, he turned, a slight smirk on his lips. He knew both of them were not quite all they appeared to be, even more so than himself. "Let's transform, and roll out." And with a quick flash of blue light, Cobalt Templar was flying through the air, armored in blue, maroon cape flapping in the breeze. He struck a noble but imposing figure, that fire still burning where his eyes were normally visible. He kept his pace slow enough his companions could easily catch up, though he clearly intended to make good time to catch up with the errant locals whose minds had been shanghaied.

"Uh...What's this about belonging to-Wait, no, you know what?" He shook his helmeted head and made some vague waving motion with his hands. "Never mind. Less talking, more running." He took Gramma Cline's hand with practiced ease. So much ease she might notice; not everyone's comfortable getting speed granted to them. Not only did he take her hand, he himself seemed poised to run, almost eager. The green lines on his suit seemed to glow brighter as he cast his gaze about the roof one more time. "Yeah, we took a tumble...Come on, let's get running!"
