William Cline had been told to get plenty of sleep. He'd gone to bed early in his tent. He had only partially succeeded. He'd slept, but it was fitful. He tossed and turned for half the night. His father had said they had a "big day", and the team had been talking about invisible scouts. He knew that meant he was quite possibly going to be called upon to move among the dinosaur village with a camera, an invisible witness among these primitive people. He was going to be asked to watch them, and do absolutely nothing to change anything. Not that he could change anything. Not exactly the sort of thing to make it easy for a young, idealistic superhero-in-training to sleep peacefully.

"Ask, and ye shall receive." Gabriel wasn't fooling around; it was only moments after Wander had called for aid, and he was standing there, astride the White Horse, glaring at War's battered form. "Hm. Yes, I think we should start pushing them back. The Gate is secure for now. Let me see what I can do to aid you here and now." With that, the man in silver and white lifted both his arms, pointing the tip of his spear and the center of his Bow dead-center on the woozy War. He narrowed his eyes just a bit, building up enough sonic energy that most of the nearby angels (and of course Wander) could hear a faint hum... Before twinned bolts of energy flew outward with enough force to make the White Horse take a single step to one side. The two bolts had already struck War head-on, with one striking him in the sternum, and one actually hitting directly on his face, both with incredible force. Gabriel couldn't help but smile a bit, though it was somewhat lopsided. "Could have used aim like that a minute ago..."

Well, Gondor Wander called for aid, so mote it be. Move Action: Spur Horse to get to battlefield next to Wander. Free Action: Change Array to Blast. Free Action: All-Out Attack 5. Free Action: Power Attack 5. Standard Action: Ranged Attack: 32. Oh snap. DC 27 Base, +5 Power Attack, +5 Crit, for a DC 37, before Autofire comes into play.

Corbin watched as the rest of their group conveniently split off. His eyes narrowed just a bit with suspicion, but he said nothing. As they descending into the small cavern, he took a position just slightly to the rear. Not so much for his sharp senses (both girls had him beat by at least a little bit there), but for the fact that if something came barreling down at them, he was the most likely to stop it with the lowest chance of injury to self. And then they found it. The pool of legend. For a curious mind like Corbin Hughes, the idea of knowing past, present, and future was sorely tempting. He stared at the sparkling water, his right hand twitching up for just a moment before his will clamped down. "Tempting. But too easy. Really, it seems too easy to just find it like this anyways. But just sipping some water and knowing all of that? Has to be a catch. I think I'm full up on strange magical "gifts" found in lands far from home at this point, thanks."

Thoughtspeed had blurred in front of one of the statues moving to attack the civilians when the ice golems had stopped in place all at once. He looked over and saw Cho having knocked the punk ice controller all the way out. With a sigh of relief he shook his hands and dispelled the blades around them. With a few quick steps, he was standing next to the others. First up, he gave Cho a thumb's up. "Nice punch! Better than I managed to do..." He shrugged at Stronghold's speculations. "Dunno. Let Star Squad sort it out. He's knocked out and no one else is in danger, that's the important part." Only then did he notice Gene's wound. "Crud, are you okay, man? Sheesh, we should get you a doctor or something."

Will was unusually silent, both on the run back to the others, and in the ensuing conversation. He gave an amused snort at the "Queen of the Dragon People" joke from Gaian Knight, but otherwise he was introspective and (for him) slow to react. The entire situation appeared to have shaken him. On the one hand, his parents were smart people who know both their own limitations, and the limitations of the broader methods available to the heroes. On the other...they seemed almost...casual about the idea. His mother mentioned the evening, and possibly sleep. How could he sleep easily tonight, knowing that there were untold thousands, or more, sapient beings who had less than a month before they died utterly? How could he, a self-proclaimed super-hero, sleep well knowing that he wasn't supposed to even try to do anything? What kind of a trip had this turned out to be?

Somehow, Gabriel's spear was back in his hand with but a thought. He pointed to the fleeing rabble that had served Conquest, looking to the most senior of the angels at the gates. "Give them a good chase for a bit, then make sure this place is secure, and see about reinforcing the other positions. I'm going to go help the others." Normally a mortal wouldn't dream of commanding the Heavenly Hosts, but today wasn't an ordinary day by any stretch. Gabriel stowed both his spear and his bow, taking his Horse's reigns in both hands, wheeling into the sky at breakneck speed. His voice rang out once more over the shining city, his words, his conviction, his faith, and his hope sparking hope, inspiration, and new strength in the hearts and minds of his allies. "Brothers and sisters! The day is not hopeless! The one who would grind all Creation beneath his twisted iron boots lies crumbled at the Gates, never having set foot inside! So I bid you once more to stand! Our victory today is assured! You merely need grasp it! If you need my aid you have but to ask, friends! For I stand with you!"

Nevermore didn't so much as grunt as the metal tail struck his body. The armor took most of the blow, and that last-second lean meant he'd have some nasty bruises, but nothing broken. Yet. He did determine that the cyber-creature was a bit too inhuman to easily get into a complicated wrestling hold or the like. Joint locks tended not to work on robots. So he went for the brute force approach. For a moment he rocked back a bit further on his heels, before rocketing forward with a lunging strike with the plated, reinforced, and padded palm of his hand, turning his entire forearm into a piledriver that struck the "dragon" square on the neck, not far behind the head. He didn't break the head off (that would have been kind of awesome, he wasn't going to lie), but he did feel something in the cyberdragon give way instead of in his arm, so it didn't go totally astray.

Right then. Free Action: All-Out Attack 2. Attack is +12, Defense is +8. Free Action: Power Attack 2. Attack is +10, Save DC is 23. Standard Action: Melee Attack the Cyberdragon. 11. NOPE. Hero Point Reroll: 20. But...I think with our rules on HP Reroll that's a 30 now? If that hits, Toughness Save DC 23.

Thoughtspeed's helmeted head whipped around to see the suddenly-animated ice statues moving. Bad enough the guy was throwing ice around blindly. Now he's making rampaging... "Dinosaurs are cool, ice golem dinosaurs, not so much. Stronghold, try to keep him busy! The rest of us will take care of the rabble." And then he moved. In about two eye blinks he was next to the icy dinosaur construct, and instead of a single long blade, he held two shorter blades, not unlike the Roman gladius. In a blur of motion, he began carving into the icy creature, the condensed and shaped kinetic energy imparting more force than the boy's rather lean arms might suggest. Also, he was hitting the thing a lot.

Wheeeee Ice Minions. Move Action: Move up to Ice Dino. Free Action: Switch Array to Twin Blade (the Autofire Strike). Standard Action: Melee attack the Ice Dino. 22. Base Toughness DC is 20, and Autofire would apply here.

KnightDisciple's Character Scratchpad
KnightDisciple replied to KnightDisciple's topic in Character Building
So, gonna be working on "end-game" builds for all of Ravens toys. Vehicles. Whatever. Point is, these are all gonna be bought with Rewards. The Talon (Vehicle; Motorcycle) [30EP] The Talon is intended to be fast and sturdy, with the design being something like a slightly more "filled out" Batpod, minus the guns. Edit: Dropped 1 rank of sure-footed for 1 rank of Wall-Crawling. Grapnels ahoy! Plus, this is still his "sidekick" vehicle. The Big Boy will be in the next post.... Edit 2: Dropped Toughness by 2, Alarm by 1, and Speed by 1. Used those points to give the bike Leaping 2 and another rank of Wall-Crawling. Fluff description section to follow. -
Will had shrunk back a bit at his mother's proclamation. "But you even sent us the coor-" And there was the Follow Up Glare, at which point the boy wisely shut his pie-hole and stood there. And then his father wanted him to follow him on a scouting trip. He was overjoyed at not only getting to run but getting to escape his mother's baleful glances. As they started running, he spoke up. "She's not actually my girlfriend, Dad. Just a friend right now. And she graduates in, like, a month." He fell silent for the rest of the run, sliding up next to Fast-Forward and looking through binoculars as well. He huffed out a sigh. "I think it sucks enough that all the regular dinosaurs have to die, and it sucks even more to see an actual civilization sitting here about to get turned into subatomic ash in a week. I think this trip suddenly got a lot less fun."

William had arrived around the time the dino-man had finished spearing the crabs, and in enough time to catch the whole spectacle of spearing and butchering the microraptor. At first, he was fascinated, and maybe a bit creeped out. Around the time the being started singing, his still-invisible self stood up straight and sent another message back to Mali. --He, she, it...they're doomed. I mean, it's like a week until this place gets flattened. Disintegrated. There's no way that dino-person or his tribe would make it out of the blast radius. But...argh.-- He was suddenly visible. Within moments, he was next to his parents on the small cliff overlooking the beach. Their "hiding spot" hadn't been much further away (they had likely remained unnoticed due to the adults fixating on the sapient dino person). "We're gonna do something for that guy, right?" Ah, childhood innocence.

Thoughtspeed had been zipping along the direction they'd chosen, stopping every few seconds to eyeball something or another. With the cameras back at the camp, he'd opted to extend his helmet; the design didn't completely eliminate the muggy feeling in the air, but it helped just a bit, alongside the airflow from running around at high speeds. And then his mother told him to go back to the campsite. Now, Paige Psion-Cline was the sort of mother who brooked no funny business, and in a situation like this, out in the field, on a shoot, normally Will would just follow orders. But today was a bit of a perfect storm. Will was on the double-high of being near a pretty older girl he wanted to look cool in front of, and being 65 million years in the past in the time of dinosaurs. Add to that the fact that all the other heroes would be at the beach anyways, and that his mom had sent them all the coordinates, meant that he didn't think it was too big of a deal to at least check it out. "Let's swing by the beach on our way back to camp. If they ask, just say it was on our way." His helmet had retracted when he spoke, and he gave a grin that was 100% his father. "I'm not great at being super-duper sneaky, but they won't see me, and they're pretty distracted. I can go ahead a bit and send you mental signals to let you know it's clear to move forward." As he spoke, Will faded from view. Unless Mali objected, he'd mind-speak to her as he moved off toward the beach. --I can't run too fast or they'll hear me. But it should just take a minute to get there...--

Thoughtspeed kept zipping off to look at something and back to close by Crimson Tiger, his excitement enough that his body occasionally blurred from ambient kinetic vibration. His father was faster and more powerful, but Will's powers were definitely more tactile. Excitement more easily manifested random power flickers (as it were). "I wanna take one of the long-necked plant eaters home! I mean it's not big or anything, and there's gotta be weirder stuff in Freedom City alone, right? One dinosaur couldn't be a big deal! Or, wait, crud, it'd get lonely..." He seemed to shrug off the idea for the moment, but something told his parents, especially his psychic mother, that the idea wasn't completely gone. "Pfft, you punched robots into scrap, and I make swords with my brain. What could-wait, no, not finishing that. But you're right, exploration time!" He zipped out of sight for a moment, before returning, looking a bit sheepish. "Uh...which way did you want to go?"

Sometimes, being right was pretty cool, even if one could crow a bit too loudly about being correct. Sometimes it was just a confirmation of knowledge, like on a math test. And sometimes.... "I hate being right sometimes." Some analytical part of his mind noted that the dragon (apparently the ninth in a line?) was modeled after Oriental legends rather than European. Also, it was apparently equipped with a mouth-taser. As if the razor-sharp teeth weren't enough. Not content to simply let the beast attack him, Nevermore moved forward with lightning speed and precision, his cape whirling behind him as his fists rang out in a one-two quick-strike pattern that was meant more to try and give him an opening. And they did; his hands scrabbled at the metallic hide of the dragon, his armored fingers latching on in between solid plates on its neck... Before the creature seemed to give a great shudder, and he lost whatever gains he had made. Fighting the urge to curse in Romanian at the beast, he settled for giving himself a couple feet of space from those teeth.

Will had had to close his eyes as the imagery of their travel through time reached a certain point. His faster-than-normal perceptions were making the experience very disorientating. He and his parents had thought this might be the case, so he ran through the mental exercises as they continued on backward through the ages. When they stopped, and he felt the strange breeze of eons ago brushing his skin, he took a deep breath and opened his eyes, the headache already gone. He couldn't help but grin wide at the sights and sounds around him. "I say go for it, Rock Doc! Not like we're worrying about contaminating this side of things, and if we're safe to be here without hazard suits I don't see why some dirt would hurt anything to bring back home." He zipped around for a few moments, semi-consciously tracing a good circuit around the campgrounds as he did so. Obviously they'd already checked for truly dangerous predators, but still. One could never be too careful; if the movies had taught him anything it was that dinosaurs might as well be ninjas with how stealthy they were! He briefly stopped a bit closer than the others to the chicken-sized dinos...but only a bit. He kept a wary stance around them while he looked them over, his grin only growing as he watched them. Finally, he zipped over next to Mali, hands planted on his hips, not that he was puffing up his chest any to appear more manly or anything, certainly not. "Pfft. You'd just punch the dino unconscious. Besides, isn't this TOTALLY AWESOME! I mean, is this not the Best Trip Ever?"
