  2. Cobalt Templar smiled as the professor waved him over. He made his way through the slowly-growing crowd with surprising grace, not even bumping into anyone before stepping into the office with only a slight duck of his head. If nothing else, the builders had anticipated football players being present, and he was of a size with the largest of them. Once inside he closed the door gently behind himself for privacy, before offering the professor a short smile and handshake. "Well, I'm just glad you had the time, ma'am. I wish we were meeting under better circumstances, Doctor Churchill, but sadly we aren't. We've got a very unusual case sitting in front of us. We're hoping you have more knowledge of old Anglo-Saxon literature, lore, history, and such than we were able to come up with. Let me lay it out for you, what we know so far..." With that, Templar explained the details they had of the case, trying to be as specific as possible with anything and everything about the ritual, lore they all remembered, names, and so forth.
  3. The Morning Corbin had learned to sleep when the chance presented, and operate off of whatever you could get. Still and all, he'd appreciated the solid lead and the chance to sleep for several hours. A meeting at the university could be awkward, but lives were on the line. So it was that a near-giant clad in blue plate armor, a dark red ethereal cape trailing behind him, landed in front of the doors to the FCU history building. It was still early in the day, because he wanted to get this done as soon as possible. He'd brought with him handwritten notes about all the information they'd gathered from the interview with Tonya, and in general. Now he just had to navigate the hallways and find Doctor Churchill's office.
  4. "The Lord calls us to forgive so that we may be forgiven. Among the sins of the world, not being born on the Emerald Isle is a comparatively minor one, I suppose." He was clearly holding back a bit of laughter. "Yeah, I suppose checking out the museum would be better when the mixer's died down a little. And other than keeping an eye out for new arrivals who need greeting, I'm not really burdened with "duties". As for introductions...you know, I was just talking with someone who, if I might infer a bit of your methodology by your name, might be more in tune with your style of operation." He guided them through the crowd until he was back over by Foreshadow and Cannonade. "Gentlemen, this lovely woman goes by the name Shadowblade. She's new in town. Ma'am, this is Foreshadow, and Cannonade. Cannonade's a man a bit after my own heart, though he tends to work with the fist and not the thunder, as it were. Foreshadow's one of the best stealth experts we've seen in a while; he's the one who I thought might run more your speed, as it were."
  5. FYI, my current family plans have me heading out of town tomorrow (Monday, December 23rd) around 6ishpm. I'll be out of town until Wednesday (Christmas Day). Won't have forum access during that time. Leaving might be delayed until Tuesday, depending on weather, roads, etc. So, in recognition of that, I'll go head and wish everyone a Merry and Blessed Christmas!!!
  6. Gabriel smiled more broadly and offered a bow to return the curtsy. When he speaks next, he has a slight Irish lilt to his words, and his eyes dance with just a bit of mischief. "Now you're flattering me. It's an honor and a privilege, Shadowblade. And don't worry if it's a bit intimidating." He made a slightly grand, sweeping gesture toward the assemblage of heroes of all sorts. "We've got heroes of all ages and places here, so no worries about not fitting in. Besides, a gathering like this is a chance to at least make some connections in the business. Networking is key, you know." He started moving to one side of the hall, subtly guiding them away from the front doors. "I can't really take credit on much; Velocity and Fleur de Joie did a lot of the work, but plenty of others helped. I was mostly helping coordinate some of the support staff. Anyways, this is obviously the main meet-and-greet area. Over there where there's a small mob is the food room. Over down that hall is a couple of the public museum rooms, with bits and bobs from heroic days of yore. And down there is where the dance floor is. I don't think anything's fired up yet, but there will be dancing, I'm sure of that. Food's good, though. Very nice spread, and it's prepped for pretty much any diet."
  7. Right, sorry for the delay. Notice: 18.
  8. Suddenly, William is no longer over against the wall, he is standing in front of Cho, shaking her hand and delivering a winning smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Cho. And I'm glad there's no punching. Fistfights before lunch wear me out." Then he's in front of Thaelia, offering her a handshake. "Thaelia! Terribly sorry we didn't meet earlier, but that's okay. Pleasure to make your acquaintance." As soon as her hand is shaken he's in front of Georgia, offering another handshake. "Georgia, welcome to Claremont, it's awesome here, don't worry. Glad you could make it." Then he was standing in front of Giang, arms crossed, smile gleaming, and giving her a wink. "So! Tours are cool." Especially tours with not one, not two, not three, but FOUR beautiful young women. "I could help provide-oh, uh, luggage. Hrm. That....probably means dorms. Which aren't publicly open! So, uh, yeah. I'd offer to help but I don't think I'm allowed and stuff. Maybe after all you lovely ladies get your gear stowed and stuff we can catch up at the cafeteria? Food is fun. Eh? Eh?"
  9. Gabriel noticed Lady Liberty and Velocity heading over into the crowd as Wail and two older heroes he recognized as the reformed Hologram and Fast-Forward (their show was quite fun) entered. The reason this was worth noticing was that for the moment there was no one "manning the doors", and just then an individual walked in looking lost and confused. Luckily, Gabriel was a quick eater, and had already polished off the small plate he'd been carrying. He finished his glass of warm cider and tossed everything in the trash receptacle nearby, giving Foreshadow and Cannonade a smile. "Pardon me, gentlemen, it seems we're still receiving guests, and some of the others are engaged in other matters. Hosting duty calls!" And then he was slipping through the crowd (it would be rude to just zoom over everyone's heads), and within a minute was there at the door, offering Shadowblade a smile and a handshake. "Greetings, madam. Welcome to the Freedom League's Christmas party. My name is Gabriel. I don't believe we've had the pleasure of making acquaintance?"
  10. "Well, you get some of these fights on TV, and you know how some parents get about violence or whatnot. "Oh think of the children", "oh my faint heart", that sort of thing." The humor didn't really find its way into Templar's tone and the smile didn't reach his eyes, but. "And honestly I would agree with you. Blackstar's the closest thing to a leader and even that's a big stretch. Hm. Maestro's probably not interested, is he? Do you think some up-and-coming punk will try to weasel their way in now that you've been kicked out? Maybe a few of them, trying to make a name for themselves? We both know it won't be anything close to the same, though." He didn't mention that somehow, he thought this shakeup might end up making things worse. The only question was how much worse.

"Ancient legends can get confusing, Kimber. No worries. But it sounds like the puddle might be able to give a lot more than just "bad news". Perhaps whoever or whatever seeks it is looking to get a lot of insight into the future as a whole. Considering their methods I'm hoping they don't get what they want." He pondered the map, frowning at it as well. "Well, the father's ring would have been something important to him. At the very least, a token of good memories of the past. Perhaps a symbol of power as well. The current seeker, if they do possess the Indigo Ring, might be seeking to "trade" it for this future knowledge. Which...I do not think the Ring would be destroyed, but this is a situation where I am less certain, and not a scenario I'd like to see."
  12. (GM Post) The most damaged drone just fell into charred pieces on the ground, one hand bouncing down the hallway toward the T-intersection. One was left with one arm mangled and scorches all over. The last seemed generally functional, if heavily burned and with several dents from the impact with the wall. This was the drone that focused on Caradoc. For a moment, that was all...until the head tilted to one side. It spoke then, in halting electronic tones, not unlike the voice one heard from robots or whatnot on television. "YoU dO nOt CoMpReHeNd." It seemed to still need a moment to gather its wits, which meant the technopath heroes still had a chance to finish the job!
  13. Let's see: Drone 1 and 2 fail the save, 3 barely makes it. Toughness DC 27: Drone 1 fails by 1, Drone 2 fails by 19. Toughness DC 21: Drone 3 fails by 8. So! Turn Order Harrier (25): Uninjured; 4 HP Dragonfly (23): Uninjured; 4 HP Miss Americana (14): Uninjured; 6 HP Drone 2 (9): Uninjured Destroyed Drone 1 (6): 2 Injury Drone 3 (6): 2 Injury, Dazed. We'll say 1 and 3 are pushed back against the far wall. I suppose that actually gives them another injury, so I've added that in above. Now it's Dragonfly's go!
  14. Right then! Turn Order Harrier (25): Uninjured; 4 HP Dragonfly (23): Uninjured; 4 HP Miss Americana (14): Uninjured; 6 HP Drone 2 (9): Uninjured Drone 1 (6): Uninjured Drone 3 (6): Uninjured
  15. "So, uh, if there's going to be punching, should I let the nurse know? Or is there not going to be punching? I'm still a little fuzzy on the details there." A young man was leaning against one of the pillars gracing the perimeter of the Zen Garden, one eyebrow raised in curiosity. At the moment, he was wearing dark blue sweatpants and hoodie, with a white t-shirt peaking through under the hoodie. He seemed very lightly winded, as if he'd been jogging for a couple minutes and happened upon the confrontation. Considering it was young William Cline, speedster extraordinaire and budding master of kinetic energy (at least, to hear him talk that's what he is), he'd probably made about 30 laps around campus at top speed. He was watching the scene with interest, but his shoulders had just enough tension that Giang, at least, could probably pick out that he wasn't there to watch a "catfight". Or, if he was, he wasn't voicing that, because his mother didn't raise an idiot even if he is the self-assured sort who fires off his mouth without thinking through things much. "If there is punching, maybe that could happen, then the nurse, then we have a "Welcome to Claremont" party, because parties mean cake and stuff, and I love cake and stuff."
  16. Cobalt Templar rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I'm not sure who we'd call at this time. The list is either too small and remote or too large and broad, and most of them will be asleep." He sighed, frustration showing through. "I'd say we should break to reconvene in the morning, except I get the feeling if we don't keep on this, we're going to regret it...Wait." He looked at Hologram, somewhat more intently this time. "You said there was a presence, but it was pulling away. Do you think you could track it? Maybe we can try to herd whoever or whatever that is, capture them, and get them to talk."
  17. Int Check to think of possible Crime League members/leaders: 8.
  18. "I've been hearing enough rumbles to tell me you've already cemented your own reputation. And name recognition to the point of instant surrender is never a bad thing. I occasionally manage that myself, especially if it's a "turf war"; usually they at least stop the fight and stand back, if not tossing down their guns and walking away. Admittedly, I can sometimes run a bit "soft" on some of the folks in Southside..." He shrugs. "But considering how I operate, a velvet glove is probably best. I'm not really made for working from the shadows like yourself or Raven. Besides, a couple of the stubborn kids actually get the message." Gabriel actually shrugs a bit at the compliment, looking almost uncomfortable. "No, no. I'm just the sort who tends to make a more...public spectacle of things. Mostly because that's what I've found meshes best with my style, and perhaps just a bit because I still love the stage." Gabriel gives a sage nod at Cannonade's words. "True enough, true enough. The fact that we haven't gone crazy is testimony enough at least some of it wasn't all bad. Plus, getting together with other heroes helps eliminate the silly fantasy of being alone in our burden." He laughed at the bold proclamation. "Indeed! Let them come, all at once or one at a time. We'll be ready!" At the other hero's salute to the elder hero, Gabriel turned with a smile. Instead of adding to the cross-room conversation, the man in silver and white opted instead to raise his glass in salute and give a smile and respectful nod to the other sound-slinger in the Hall.
  19. The two technopaths hadn't had a lot of chance to dig through the non-video data, and it seemed like the files present were a bit touch-and-go for integrity and whatnot, but it was quite likely they'd be able to figure at least some things out. Of course, that would probably have to wait. Because Caradoc chose that moment to turn around and face the hall again. And noticed something that hadn't been there before. Three somethings, in fact. They looked a lot like the "deactivated" Curator drones, though things had obviously been shifted around a bit. Their arms had large barrels mounted on the forearms, the muzzle ending just before the wrists. Their heads were smooth, with no facial features beyond a set of three glowing green dots in a triangle centered on the blank metal. The slightly skeletal robots seemed to stand there for a moment, assessing the three in front of them. Before raising their arms up, clearly ready for combat.
  20. MWAHAHAHA! Okay, this should be a cakewalk. These 3 are PL 7. Toughness +7, Defense +7, Attack +7, DC 22 Blasts. Oh, and they have Teleport. Not gonna bother giving them full stat blocks. They have no Impervious or Penetrating, but they do have Fort Immunity. But! Initiative time! Please provide your current Hero Point total. (incidentally, you all get a Hero Point for them sneaking up on you with no chance to roll or anything.) Drone 1 Init: 6. Drone 2 Init: 9. Drone 3 Init: 6. ....Well, that happened.
  21. Let's say a DC 15 Int check to remember that as far as any of them can recall from school, Corbin never drank coffee!
  22. Corbin smiled, and blushed just a bit. "Ah, thanks. Good to know. And glad I can provide a break. Can't say I've looked into construction companies recently. Last job I commissioned was a lot smaller in scope, and was out in the forest." He moved back toward the kitchen even as the others began coming down the stairs. He smiled and gestured for everyone to keep coming into the kitchen. "I've got one pot of fairly high-quality stuff just about done, and we've got a second machine that can brew stuff up pretty quick. Mom and Dad like having variety so there's like fifty billion kinds. My taste buds for coffee got ruined a while back so when I do have it it's just plain, black, lots of caffeine. The keep calling me a Philistine. I respond that I am probably close to Goliath in size." He blinks and turns to Eve, surprise on his face. "Wait, a castle?"
  23. Will gave a smile and a semi-formal bow, an irrepressible grin on his face once more. He was clearly trying once more to be charming. Success: mixed. Sincerity: high. "It is my inestimable pleasure to make your acquaintance, Giang. If you and Mali are representative of even a portion of the students at this fine institution, I cannot deny that it will be a most enjoyable stay here." His gaze did wander over the Zen Garden, though. Something about it really was utterly relaxing. "Is there a schedule for this space or something? Or do we have multiple spaces like it scattered across the campus? I'm mostly a man of action, but every once in a while a little peace and quiet can be nice." While nowhere near the sheer power of his sister or the experience-honed skill of his mother, William did possess at least some rudimentary psychic talent. Perhaps thankfully for all involved, it didn't allow him to just read surface thoughts or emotions. "But, hey, the whole "find my inner peace" thing is pretty awesome, but please tell me there's fun stuff on campus? I don't have a car, yet, but I can't bring people along like Dad can with my speed, so I need something to do after I bust out the homework and stuff, you know? Like, movies, games, sports, that stuff. This place isn't just work-work-work, is it?"
  24. "Pffft. Those guys in Hollywood wish they were as awesome as I am. But you know I have great balance, Mom. Grandma said so herself!" Still, the boy listened, and the swords disappeared as he turned back to face the way they were going. He did apply just a little super-speed to get back with the rest of the group (barring his father who was zipping around at his own pace that Will hoped to one day match). He slowed a bit, taking in the Zen garden. For a speed-obsessed teen, one of the few things that could make him slow down and just be was a place of natural serenity. He smiled, a soft smile of genuine appreciation for the space. His next expression was also genuine, but it was perhaps a bit less serene. It was here that his mother's discipline introduced itself. He almost spoke a loud, boisterous greeting, but reconsidered. One thing you learned in a house with psychics was that if they were in some sort of meditative pose and looks concentrated, disturbing them was a Bad Idea. Instead, he glanced to their tour guide with an upraised eyebrow, seeming to inquire about the protocol in such a situation.
  25. "So, they wanted her for...probably some kind of ritual. Actually, they probably want several girls like that. The police found another victim who was...in worse shape." He was clearly trying not to say it outright since Tonya and her mother might overheard, even if the group of heroes was over to one side. "As for Unferth and Medea...maybe it's a two-for-one deal. They get some sort of special ritual done that gives them...I don't know what, but something. Maybe a small army, maybe a power boost, not sure. But they get that done...and then Unferth comes to the Crime League. With Stratos on the outs they may be on a recruiting spree. Just speculation, though." He blinked at the mention of the birthday, then frowned. "Do you think we should try to track down all the girls with your birthday, in your general age range? That seems like about the only lead we've got...I'm not a great tracker to start with, and if the beast that came after you flew, that makes things a bit harder..."
