El Heraldo "Mix and mingle? I'm on it!" Shaking the offered hand with vigor, Heraldo nodded in confirmation "Oh yeah, totally! Well...used to be a student hero, I graduated in September. Good times. Quiet too" he said thoughtfully "Everyone at school was all 'this time it's gonna be the Sky Lord! This time it's gonna be the Crime League!', but nothing happened, which is kind of a relief." "And yeah, I'm totally from Puerto Rico too!" he acknowledged with a grin of real pride "I get to speak from soul to soul with the spirit of the island, which is, though I say so myself, pretty awesome. Though...last I was there was back in July, spent most of my life here in Freedom City. How about you Starchaser?" he asked the star-spangled man with a polite raise of his feathered hat and a quizzical raise of an eyebrow "Where are you from, space? Ooh! Are you a Lor?" his eyes nearly blazed with excitement at the idea.

El Heraldo Heraldo gave the young woman a wounded look "Aw, Blodeuwedd, don't say that! You know I don't [Ã]always think with my stomach, I use my heart too." Suddenly he took her hand in his and drew her closer, placing a quick peck on her cheek as he murmured "It's saying: "Wow.", and also that I haven't had anything since noon. Which is somebody's fault but I won't say whose." The gravity vanished, Subito grinned, stepped away and started for the refreshments table, calling back over his shoulder "See you in a sec my lady! Don't start any new teams without letting me know, okay?" The vast floor was already starting to fill up, so he wasn't quite the blazing comet he normally was at these kinds of meetings 'Though I can't really call them "those kinds", never been to one before!', but even so, in his flashy splendor the muscular teen was definitely a sight next to some of the more subdued or two-toned costumes gathered nearby. As the snacks were a little removed, he forged a cheerful path around the crowd, his powerful hearing taking in the conversations buzzing around his head and giving him quite a bit to think about as he passed a guy in clothes more weathered than he was used to in superheroic attire, an old Greek helm and a rather grounded air talking to the shining man in silver, gold and white who could only be Freedom Leaguer Gabriel! 'He does what we do, but with...less. Kinda sobering' the young man thought as he marched briskly past. He hesitated on the threshold, catching some of the voices talking with Marcus. There were three of them, and glancing back saw the ursine runemaker nearly surrounded by some very familiar figures. He couldn't think who they were though, aside from the stance of one of the girls that summoned up vague recollections of pain and the Claremont Academy gym mat. There would be time to find out. First, food! Then, meeting some people. Even for somebody who had experienced the Claremont cafeteria, with its exotic blend of the familiar and powerfully alien, the spread was incredible. Subito stuck to the Mexican and Spanish dishes for the most part, strong chili liberally ladled with Pique sauce, well-cooked meat and vegetables, pasteles and tacos taking pride of place among the mighty plate he emerged with. It didn't hinder him any though, as he approached Fleur and Starchaser with utter confidence. 'Alright, only one first impression after all. Let's do this.' With a cheerful wave and warm smile he called over "Hi folks!I'm El Heraldo de la Dama Azul del Puerto Rico! Mostly just Heraldo. Hey man, nice cape." He added to Starchaser. Turning smoothly to Fleur he desperately cleared away a foolish grin that was trying to take over his face and added politely "Thank you so much for this meeting, it's a great opportunity for us . And thanks especially for the food!" he bowed in a slightly old-fashioned way to the floral benefactress before rising, straightening his jacket and glancing back at the crowd "Anything I can help out with?"

Osprey politely bowed to the officers' demands, silently ducking away and collecting the few weapons he'd used during the battle. Leaving as little of a trail as possible, at least materially, was something he had realized was going to be paramount in the coming year. It gave him time to think about this strange feeling he was getting from the woman in charge, too. Alden was normally a practical man with little interest or concern for the occult or uncanny as anything but something that science would explain someday, but that didn't make it any easier for him to shake the strong, unnerving sense that something followed in this detective's shadow. 'It's like death's hovering right beside her' he thought as he rejoined the others 'same feeling as when you see a vulture circling above you.' Nonetheless, he gave the woman a quick smile and spoke in the same calm, level tone as before "Osprey. I was in the area, heard breaking glass, caught sight of those three blokes menacing the pump employees, went to intervene. The fellows didn't have much fighting experience, it was easy to stop them." Glancing over at the young mutant beside him he added "What Net Fly said is accurate. If it helps, the boy you just took away said it was one dose of whatever it was, and the effect was a lot more than advertised. Might be someone's testing a new batch." As he spoke he kept his cape over his arms, and stood just far enough away from the detective. 'Not like anything's going to happen, but...well, I don't want be caught that off guard if it does!'

For clarification. I didn't intend to get everyone tossing overconfident jackasses into the thread, I meant to oppose Heraldo's confidence with arrogance. That and it's a little odd for ALL of them to be like that.

Akamu snorted "Inadequacy is a good word for it, Jin," he replied, though more evenly than before "none of us would dare be just 'adequate'. But perhaps I shouldn't speak for everyone." he added with a sideways glance up at the slighter boy. Tensing, the bulky youth leaped to his feet and across the packed dirt between him and the Claremonters, the ground rippling subtly as he flew over. He walked over to the group and gave Giang, Serge and Subito a short bow "But we do this in the wrong order: welcome to this island of Sin, one of his many places of power and the seat of Lady Shen, his trusted lieutenant. We do not wish to make you our enemies. I and my comrades" he gestured at the other students behind him "are here to ensure you are secure against those who seek to keep you from your true potential, and are pitted against more than mere mortal skill can ever give you. Surely," he said loudly over his shoulder, "we do not forget a mission so soon after we get it." Turning back to the teen heroes he smiled, though the curve of the lips and deepening cheeks didn't do anything to soften his icy stare. Offering a hand to Subito he said "I apologize, Subito Sondo. I meant my words just as a warning, not a threat." "Those are just about the exact same thing, buddy" snapped the young paragon, who shook Akamu's hand with little of his usual vigor and gave him a suspicious look "[color-#808000]but I'll let that slide, this ain't English class. No worries on the tough-guy talk, not a lotta ways to do that that aren't real thuggish and make you sound like a closet psychopathic megalomaniac. Also, how do you know my name?" 'color=#000044]Is it not obvious, my champion? They must have heard you last- Nope, I refuse to believe that, no way But it is- Shush!' "The wardens heard you say "I'll-I'll sink your b'ttl'ssship or my name isn't S'bito S'ndoooooo" last night, and your schoolmates called you 'Subito', so it was likely Sondo was your surname." Akamu explained calmly, flicking a bug out of his hair. '...Go on. Say it. Say what? What do you mean? You know exactly what I mean. Say 'I told you so.' and get it over with. Say it! Well... SAY IT! I cannot. It would not be true. You never let me finish. Grrrrrrrr.' Subito flushed and grimaced "I...see. Crap. Something to work on I guess. Um. Don't suppose you'd show us around this crazy island super-base? Seein' as we're supposed to be your new brothers..well, brothers- and sisters-in-arms and so forth." he added with a glance at Giang and the girl hanging back with the others, shuddering inwardly at the way she was looking at the young supers. Akamu raised an eyebrow, but turned to look at his own fellow students "Should we? I think not. Let them find their own way, better for the memory."

GM Australia As two of the back-alley longshoremen hit the ground, Vector clearly heard several muttered, whispered, and two shouted curses. The vast majority of the men glanced fleetingly at each other, their foe in yellow and white, and took to their heels with impressive speed, vanishing into the night. Their skinny leader wavered, rage and terror equally on his face, but he steeled himself and jumped behind two of the slower workmen, yelling "Get it loose, quick! Quick!" The driver stayed where he was, petrified. With speed and grace the crate was unceremoniously put on the ground, the case torn off and in moments a glittering silver weapon was in the leader's hands. Several prongs arcing over the short barrel flared with power, he whipped it to his shoulder and pulled a lever. With a roar that echoed the booming surf, swirling ribbons of brilliant ochre flashed through the air and whirled around the heroine, moving so fast she couldn't so much as follow their orbits as they sped past her eyes. Almost at once she felt herself getting heavier, limbs leaden, like she would sink into the ground any moment, and the only way out was through the energy ribbons that cracked and hissed menacingly! America It wasn't hard for Tyrone to find someplace with a better view, and soon the young doctor had made out a simple route into the warehouse that wouldn't get him caught in a hail of whatever the kids were packing. He could see that the driver had jumped out and was talking quite calmly with the young men who had gathered nearby, two, one in a ray and one in a red hoodie moving almost lazily to shut the main door. As he watched though, Tyrone felt almost like something about the situation wasn't right. Something he was missing... Meanwhile, the Ages Lost hurtled down on its way to destiny, streamers lashing like colorful whips! The crew moving with the ease of long practice to where they could jump to battle stations, just in case the advanced extra-terrestrial starcraft wasn't enough on its own to intimidate whoever lay below.

Most of the thugs turn and start running, two of them(gently, Move Action) place their crate on the ground and bust it open with a Standard. The third thug not running pulls something out of the crate, aims it at Vector(Accurate Attack, +1 Attack -1 DC): 21. If that happens to hit her while her Defense isn't shifted up to 15, DC18 Reflex save and DC23 Toughness save. Thunder, have Graft roll Notice please, DC15. As it is he sees an easy route into the storage building that would let him get the drop on the possible criminals. Blue Rose, Ages Lost will show up shortly after Graft makes his move, if that's fine by you.

El Heraldo "Here we are, right on time!" sang out a cheery voice. With a rush of air and a soft noise as boots hit pavement, a handsome young Hispanic man with thick, curly hair barely contained by a magnificent feathered cap as blue as the summer sky walked through the doors, face alight with a cheerful grin. His arm was linked that of a young woman in a darker costume with an impressively plain and sharp-looking longsword at her hip and long black hair. His jacket was the same solid blue as the cap, ornamented with elegant yellow shapes of fish and sheep, but the effect of restrained elegance was promptly destroyed by his belt with the star-shaped buckle, vibrant red gloves and pants that seemed to contain every primary color at once in a dazzling diamond-grid display of brilliance. Sauntering across the hall, sliding a flagpole bearing the national colors of Puerto Rico over his shoulder, his eyes took in the sumptuous Christmas decor with undisguised glee. Subito wasn't normally one for the glitzy, secular side of Christmas time, but sometimes it just worked. And here at the earthly home of the world's premier super-team, surrounded by people who had dedicated their immense power and resources to helping the less fortunate, it was hard not to get caught up in feelings of hope and brotherhood! Whistling under his breath he glanced around at the gathered costumed characters, dark eyes darting from one to the other as he searched for a familiar face...well, mask. Or color scheme. At first he was at a little of a loss, while more than a couple were famous in their own right, many of them(especially the pallid lady in the weirdo black dress, or the man in white) he hadn't the foggiest idea about, though that just made it more exciting to wonder what they'd be like when he got to know them! Then he saw the unmistakable figure of Marcus, and the now-familiar costume of Velocity, and sighed with a grin of relief 'Awwwww yeah! It's that bear dude, and the speedster lady we met that one time! ...You have no idea what their names are, do y- What, Arcturus and Velocity? Sure I do! What kind of guy would I be if I didn't pay attention to stuff like that? Oh...good! I was worried, Herald. Anyway, let us go make some allies against the darkness. For Victory! For Victory! And love, got to have that too!' He missed Mali and Giang at first, not catching their faces in the crowd and being much less familiar with them out of costume. That and being almost jumpy with anticipation, which didn't help. Whirling to face Blodeuwedd with bright eyes, the young paragon said "So, Blodeu! What'll we do first? I'd like to meet some people first, then food, how aboooouuuuuut..." he scanned the growing crowd, eyes narrowing thoughtfully until they hit on the superfast Leaguer "Velocity! Be cool to meet her again, this time not on the job."

'Wait, is this some kind of...' '...of course. This is the source, right here. These blokes must be some kind of test subjects...or something, nobody would just throw away stuff like that' Outside of his own mind Osprey didn't give much evidence of what he thought about the young man's desperate confession, though his grip did relax. A little. He had to give the fellow something to work with. "So. 'They' said you had to join. And you decided not to tell the police about this? I see. I can understand why that would seem like a good idea. Little secret: it wasn't." He had sudden slammed his head forward into the others', stopping just in time so the two were eyeball to eyeball as he grated the last two words. Moving back and releasing the teenager, he turned to Foreshadow "So. Many people here with powers-making drugs?"

GM Folding her hands and resting her chin on the knuckles, the archaeologist allowed a thoughtful "That is a very good point. It would explain the wandering, for certain. And the Indigo does...well, 'did' have some strange power over the mind, searching memories could be part of it." Frowning deeply at the implications, the older woman glanced over at Corbin as he asked about the area's legends. There was a brief silence as her eyes flicked up to the ceiling and her forehead creased in a fashion all three had seen more than once in class, the instructor trying to remember something. At last she shook her head slowly "None. There was a-alright, fine," Rojas rolled her eyes and smiled sheepishly as looked back at the trio "there was one. A folk tale some of the Moors had about the old Caliph Abd-ar Rahman the Third, from the tenth century C.E. The story goes that long ago, feeling rhe weight of his age as his reign dragged on, he went on a journey to the southern provinces to rest. While camped many miles south of Sevilla, he slipped away from his guard and found a pool in a small valley. Looking into it, he saw his face and mourned the passage of years, wishing aloud that he could have the sharp and clear mind he used to have." At a nearby table, a cheerful burst of laughter and bawdy suggestions started ringing out, caused by a young couple very energetically starting to make out. Coughing a little, the historian added "From what accounts I have read, Abd-ar Rahman was not known for lapses in intelligence, or self-pity. Even by those closest to him. Anyway! A light shone from the pool, and a voice told him that if he dipped his father's ring into the water and drank it, he would have his wish. Greedily following that command, the Caliph found the fog of years cleared in a flash, and started to run back to the camp. But the voice spoke again, warning him that the gift wouldn't last, and offered a second draught to show him the dangers he would face in the future. Turning back to the pool he said "Once is enough for me. Thank you for your offer, O Radiant Pool, but only God should know the future, not Man." And he left rejoicing. The shining pool is said to still wait, offering any who find it that second gift." Shrugging, Prof. Rojas smiled apologetically "Sorry Corbin, it isn't much, but all I can think of right off the bat." A bird landed above their window, a seagull, and it added its squawking voice lustily to the din already going on inside.

"O' course, Foreshadow" Osprey said, nodding to Net Fly as he went, his voice becoming just a little more clipped and taciturn than before "what else would they want?" Truth be told he wasn't entirely comfortable with this, for no reason he could easily define. Oh sure he had threatened people with violence, even flinging one stubborn informant off a building and letting him fall a ways before catching him in his talons, but pressure like this...'We've already won, what's this do for us?' Putting that feeling aside, Osprey picked up the would-be robber and looked steadily into his eyes, the yellow lenses giving him a thoroughly impassive stare. "Your powers. What from? Talk." This was more like it!

Clapping enthusiastically at Giang's martial-arts prowess, Subito walked over to her clapped the girl lightly on the back "Great going! Dunno if me or Surge coulda done that Giang. Thanks." Glancing around the austere, elegantly archaic surroundings, the muscular teen gave a little shrug and wondered aloud "Wonder what there is to explore? Pro'lly not much, but eh. I think we should go clockwise, just check it out and see if there's anything we can use. Gotta be a fuse box or somethin' loose, all the important stuff in this base can't be underground or in that big rock back there" he thumbed at the doors they had just left, stretching his arms out behind his head and looking up at the sky wistfully. He wanted to fly, he could almost feel the island falling away as he soared off back to Blodeu and home...of course, then he'd just be a lesson to his friends. He wasn't sure what the collars could do, and wasn't intending to find out. "You would be surprised. Lady Shen is no idiot." came a soft, slightly accented voice from behind them, the source being a fit young man with close-cropped hair and cold eyes, wearing the same uniform as the rest, but stark red where theirs was blue. Giang saw at a glance that he was Laotian, if much more strongly built than the norm for what looked like a boy in his late teens. He was sitting on the steps leading up to the building on their right, and looked as poised and composed as he was quiet. Subito snorted, raising and eyebrow as he dropped his arms to hang deceptively loose at his sides "An' you'd be, what, in detention?" "No," answered the boy without moving a muscle "I am one of the students told to watch you foreigners. Provide...a challenge, I think the word is, there are few with powers here. I am Akamu, and you, Subito Sondo, cannot beat me. "Yeah, sure buddy, you're as good as Captain Thunder" "It is not a boast. Mere fact. I am faster, stronger, more intelligent and better trained than you are." Regarding the new arrival with mingled irritation and unease, Subito called out to the realm beyond his heart 'Hey, Dama, this guy for real or what? He is not lying, I am sad to say. But...it's a lonely power, he has naught but himself. If it comes to battle, we might have a chance together. Oh, good- I hope. ...What?! For crying out loud, Dama, we're not THAT disconnected. And we have pals.'

GM Blinking in surprise, Tia looked a little dubiously at Kimber "I'm not sure that's entirely comforting...but I like your spirit!" she added with a smile that nearly crinkled her eyes out of sight "We could use more of it, so many young people these days, always so dour, so drab, like they cannot see the wonderful things right in front of them!". At the shade's question about what the ring-bearer was hoping to gain the historian pursed her lips a little, visibly mulling it over before answering slowly "I think, but do not know for sure, that they are trying to find something near here. Let me show you." Reaching into the backpack she withdrew a heavily battered map and propped it up so the three young heroes could see it. It was a map of the peninsula, looking like it had been made at least ten years ago and covered in dotted trails depicting everything from migrations to the routes of armies, outlines of dozens of now-vanished settlements jostling for space beside modern towns and cities. A new trail had been marked in dark blue. "Here," said Rojas as she tapped a large dot that started the trail just a few miles west of Madrid's outskirts, "is where the first sighting was. A bicyclist going home was bowled over by a dark mass, and came to remembering nothing for the last hour except dread. As you can see, it goes south...more or less. A fire at an antique shop in Albacete happened just before it's sighting there, no loss of life but it does make you wonder. Then it comes to our neighourhood, Granada, Sevilla, Cadiz, and now just north of here. Something it's after must be somewhere nearby, otherwise why not just leave Spain?" The area only a dozen miles away had three dots in it, with only six on the map in all. Rojas shrugged and the put the paper down, folding it back up deftly with scarred fingers "Those who encountered it were unmolested, and it took nothing from them, not even food or water."

Yes, Vector has a rough idea that they're smuggling bad stuff. Their initiative roll: 19. And you don't roll for Damage, your damage rank is just applied to a base DC15(in the case of direct damage things), and if you hit your opponent rolls a Toughness save vs that number. The Strike is rank 12, 12+15 is 27, so a DC27 toughness save. They can't match that, so they go down at once. Feel free to attack again, they're Flat-Footed so they don't have a Dodge Bonus to Defence. Feel free to take ten on your Attack rolls.

Crouching next to the darkly-clad Foreshadow as he worked, Alden watched attentively as the other vigilante patched up their former enemy. "I don't, sorry kid" he said over his shoulder to Net Fly "not as much good at fixin' blokes as I am punching 'em." That was a definite sore spot for the avian avenger, as two of his closer acquaintances could make you better just by shining light on you for a few seconds or pulling out a medical bag. Nodding slowly at Foreshadow's diagnosis, he got silently to his feet at the open question of what to do next, walked over to the phone near the cash register and dialed a quick three digits. Raising the receiver to his ear he waited a moment and then said shortly "Hello. Uh, both? Can I...oh good. Yes, this is around the corner of Letterman and Adams, small gas station. Please get here quickly, been an attempted robbery, and some of the robbers are in a bad way. Seem to be pow-I mean, supers, but it's backfired on 'em, one's losing oxygen fast. You'll be here that soon? Thank you" His expression grew weary at some unheard question "No, sorry, can't give my name" he added with an apologetic tone "I'm Osprey. Foreshadow and some other lad were on the scene as well, did a right...yes, sorry ma'am" he said hastily, embarrassed at a sharp reprimand "Will do ma'am, thank you ma'am, good night." Putting the phone back down he shrugged at the others "They said an ambulance ought to get here soon, and some coppers will be with 'em. So," he calmly put a hand on the shoulder of the weeping would-be thief "I think some questions might be in order before Mr. Blue gets here, aye?"

Hi Geoff, welcome to the site! I believe I speak for most of us when I say that any friend of KnightDisciple's is likely to be tolerated around here! Just don't do anything crazy or stupid or obnoxious, obviously. Don't worry about not getting all the rules at first, I had even less experience than you in tabletop games when I joined in 2011, and I've done pretty well. Be sure to read up the House Rules and Newbie Guide thoroughly, those cannot be stressed enough for how many questions they can answer for new players. And like I told Tryfonas above it's a really good idea to look into the character creation threads the Refs and players have put together, be it for simple curiosity, understanding how to build for certain effects, to get ideas, or what-have-you. Looking forward to what you decide to make and play! As an aside, hypothetically speaking, what are the odds of a fine, upstanding and understanding Corsec sort like yourself turning a hypothetically kind eye to hypothetical breaches of the law that might, hypothetically, occur in the next five minutes?

Subito mutely winced each time Giang's opponent was smashed bodily into the ground. He was their enemy and served an evil regime, but it still looked like it had really hurt. The muscular teen relaxed, his schoolmate was more than holding her own, and maybe Lady Shen would decide this was enough and move on to something like oh. With a wry twitch of his lips he watched as two more stepped into the ring. What was she even doing? Three at once? It was crazy! Folding his arms across his chest, he struggled not to let himself glare openly at their captor, though she could probably tell that he was simmering already. But she hadn't forbidden one thing. Raising his voice he called out "You can take them Giang! Take 'em down!"

GM Vector November 28th, 2013, 12.04AM, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Sounding like a gurgling throat, the black waves beat and crashed against the dock. Their motion and power kept the small ship constantly moving despite thick lines mooring it to the heavy concrete and steel. The crew aboard it were crouched against the gunwales, watching the narrow road that quickly vanished into darkness until the main dock lights glared in a cacophony of hellish orange, occasionally shining on a truck rumbling past. Each time one passed by, they visibly tensed, only to relax as it disappeared. Then one turned. It was unmarked, save for a simple, generic logo on the sides proclaiming that it worked for one of the smaller shipping companies out of Gold Coast. It rumbled to a halt before the pier, and the back door swung open to disgorge several heavily-built men who looked about as nervous as the men on the boat, who scrambled to assist with loading long, heavy boxes from the boat into the truck. The driver remained in the cabin, but Vector could see that his eyes were wide behind the balaclava, and his knuckles were white on the wheel. With a dull thud one of the boxes fell from hands that were slick with sweat, and every last man there froze. As one they turned to look at the crate, and sagged with relief. Then glared at the one who had dropped it. "S-sorry" mumbled the man, looking askance as he reshouldered his burden "I just...not used to this stuff, won't happen again" "It better not" snapped a man thinner and more terrified than the rest who seemed to be in charge "None of us wanna get turned into dog food 'cause ya got nervous!" The unloading hurried along, everyone there desperately hoping they could finish their work quickly enough not to be seen first... Graft November 27th, 2013, 8.04AM, Waterfront, Freedom City, USA Tyrone had started hearing about the shipments only a couple of days ago. It had seemed like a normal, generic kind of freight truck that bustled about the metropolis until some of his patients had opened it, and decided to try and steal one of the boxes. Luckily they had survived the strange explosion with his help. Their muddled memory of the event had been light on a lot of details, but their description of the truck meant Graft recognized it at once when he saw it. Or at least one eerily like it. There hadn't been any companies registered with the brand emblazoned on the side(a red circle with a lightning bolt through the center), and the warehouse it stopped at had obviously not been properly used in the last decade, at the least. Rust hung on the main door as it creaked open, and the windows were cracked. Sure were a lot of very fit, very edgy-looking young men though. And the elongated bulges in their winter coats did nothing to make them suspicious. Stormbreaker November 27th, 2013, 8.04AM, Skies above the Waterfront, Freedom City, USA "Captain, ladyship!" barked the voice of Age's Lost's science officer, their multi-faceted eyes gleaming in the light of several data readouts on the bridge "I've got some kind of unusual energy signature, from the hyplothadrooga scanners it appears to follow the main wavelength associated with...Terminus radiation. Odd. A significant cluster of the energy sources is directly inside this structure." spindly fingers brought up a crisp picture of one of the innumerable warehouses far below. A large red rectangle pulsed in the center. "Shall we investigate, captain Silvia? I believe this is very atypical for Earth technology." the science officer's face nearly shone with hopeful curiosity.
