Breathing a sigh of relief, veins thrumming and heart pounding from victory, Heraldo grabbed the machine and dove down through the hole in the floor, senses tuned to the fiery world around him as he flew once more through the apartment building! That room hadn't had any people in it, and none had stirred during the fight, so hopefully nobody nearby had gotten hurt. That didn't mean the work was done though. If someone was planting killer robots and traps in the building, then who knew what might have happened to the people still inside? They would have to come first, then his schoolmates. Eyes smarting at the heat, smoke and haze, the young flier darted through the apartment.

Raveled, I get what you mean and largely agree, but there are a few obstacles to having villains escape in intro threads. 1) The primary goal of introduction threads is to demonstrate the character's personality and/or abilities, to see how they fit with people who might be their peers. Tied to that is a desire for them to NOT look ineffectual on their first day in the limelight, which includes letting bad guys go even under Game Master Fiats like teleportation and the like. 2) As someone who(for good or ill) runs a lot of threads, I can say with utter certainty that having them resolve satisfactorily is pretty important to everyone involved, and Fiating that the bad guy everyone has been fighting for ten weeks just up and vanishes can be a bit of a letdown. That and no matter how powerful they are, it always feels just a little cheap. This tied with the relative lack of long-running plots with recurring adversaries means that having the villain get away is a little harder to do right. A good compromise is of course Set's introduction thread where the Assemblage of Adversaries was brought up as a long-term threat through their snakewoman minions, not saying it's a binary thing! Worth keeping that in mind is all.

Grunting in pain at the savage kick in the ribs, Subito glared up at the metal shrieker and struggled to his feet, tearing his hand free of the floorboards. 'Okay, so there isn't any other stuff keeping me in here, so I was wrong...but why not put some kind of electrical trap or something? Less thinking Herald, more punching! Right! Let's do this!'' Subito closed his eyes in meditation, feeling the power at his fingertips, the weight and flow of a nation... Suddenly blazing with a golden aura as the sound of a thousand voices raised in triumph resounded through the room, Heraldo tossed the Bandera to his left hand and flashed across the room, roaring with fury and letting loose with a savage punch that crashed straight into the robot's chest! Ripping his arm out with a burst of sparks and sizzling wires, he kicked off from the bizarre assassin and leaped backwards.

DC23 Toughness save: 31. No dice, Robot. EH will proceed with another attempt at punching the robot's being from its corporeal shell. Power Attack(-4 Attack, +4 Damage): 20. DC31 Toughness save if that hits. Move Action away from the metal warrior.

GM "Forgive me human" Hartfoul said with an expression that said much the opposite "but unless you dwell for so long in the Endless Summer, can you understand what it is like to know only servitude? I shall speak plainly: what you see as an endless tunnel I see as an endless stair!" Snapping his fingers, the Fey vanished from sight, even Rene's mystical attunement failing to detect him "My spider's plans proceed, though this rebellion commence, the Redcaps freed by cold-eyed sense, we shall not need you, though the Red Courts fall, we shall prove this to one and all!" With that, his voice vanished into the stiff winds blowing across the strange plain Parsinkle's castle stood on, and only the riot of battle could be heard. Except for one whisper "Though the tree-trapped kings...they may wreck all...." It was a quick trek back to the world of reason and humanity, thanks to Rene de Saen's painted portals, and soon the duo were being warmly celebrated for saving those caught by the Redcaps, everyone eager to hear of the King of Suit's and Rene's adventures in the world where one says goodbye to gravity, and to death.

GM By now the Freedonians were making double-time away from the giant candy monstrosity, hampered by the crush of cars and everyone else struggling to get to safety, not to mention all the now-screaming children and babies being desperately lugged out of trapped cars, their parents managing to keep vast swathes of the road better blocked-off than all the wedged vans and trucks. The rest were either leaping over the cars in an adrenaline-filled rush of terror at the massive figure swaying above them, or taking pictures as they slowly retreated. At the young Order Agent's attack, her first smashed a divot out of the thing's chocolaty head and sent it reeling backwards until it slammed against a hastily-parked pickup with a crunch of metal. With an eerie silence, the impossible creature swung towards Blodeuwedd and started its ponderous way for her... "Not a chance Cerys!" Aidah sang out defiantly, tiring of the struggle at last and all but pulling the seatbelt out of the van and jumping out onto the shoulder. Kicking her heeled sandals back into the vehicle, she signaled to Mrs. Okoro, waving at the candy monster. The dignitary pursed her lips and glanced at Tony, who shrugged helplessly and took out his phone. "Okay, time for Sunbeam to brighten Freedom City's day!" With a brilliant flash the young Dakanan suddenly had a roaring corona of light surrounding her, and her clothes had turned into a simple sheer white and gold robe emblazoned with a fiery yellow circle. Shooting up into the air with a flash of light, the young superhuman raised her left hand, sighted down it as her palm began to glow and hum as her solar energy concentrated, and let out a short "KyyyAH!" as a ray of searing power flashed across the road, missing the giant chocolate man by inches and blasting half a branch off a nearby tree. "That's not normal!" Sunbeam called down to her schoolmates "I'll get him for sure, that was just a practice shot!"

'They must have belonged to her fiance' Roi thought dismally, though he smiled openly and offered Agnes Alla his arm. 'Poor woman, to lose so much so quickly...' "It is indeed a strange thing, going from ordinary young woman with the power to create light from nothing to meeting a stranger with a cursed deck of magic cards" "Lead on, my lady!" He said briskly, praying with all his heart that soon they would have some clue about what all of this meant. So many questions stirred their minds, and only the light of truth could save them from the darkness of doubt and fear that surrounded them.

"No worries Detective, we are glad to make friends where we can." the King of Suits reassured the Ministry agent with a hearty laugh. "It was taken in Calais, above an alley near a hotel. The recording was made last night, though," Marceau took a drink of the beer, puzzling over the taste as his voice rumbled "as the time was midnight, technically it was this morning. Anyway, the Jack of Hearts of France and her cohorts took it, the House of Cards gives all its agents audio-video recording equipment for getting evidence. Makes it much easier to work with local law enforcement-" shooting a glance at Aaliyah he added "No offense meant." Coughing politely into his free hand he leaned forward to better see her tablet, examining it with care. "Maybe something happened here a while ago, back in the War? Perhaps there is something you once fought over here?" Turning suddenly to Detective Cooper he asked eagerly "Miss Cooper, are there any strange artifacts around Whitby?"

Thanking her warmly Roi ducked behind the screen, tossing his wet clothes overtop of it as he pulled on the fresh ones. They were a good cut, good material too. Whoever had bought these hadn't wanted something cheap, they'd intended to have these for a while. The young tailor felt the threads on the shirt before he put it on, whistling quietly at how strong each line was. Agnes didn't have to wait long for her answer, as his accented voice rolled from the privacy shield "It is an old artifact, you see. I found it concealed within the wall of..a shop when I was very young, put there and forgotten." Fiddling with the collar he frowned deeply "None in the town knew where it had come from, but they knew its name and soon I heard stories that the old owner of the shop had been cursed by it, that he had played the Devil for his soul, and lost. Some of the olders even claimed it was from the time of La Pucelle Jeanne d'Arc. I think you call her 'Joan' here?" he asked, his face appearing over the screen looking a little sheepish before he ducked back down to continue dressing. "They told me it was rumored to have great power, but that using that power would always lead to the owner's ruin. I discovered how to use the deck a little while ago, one day while examining the King of Hearts I just understood him somehow, and all the sorrow and misery seemed like a river or great ocean that I could draw forth. It's quite dangerous though, to other people I mean, I I have had little desire to learn more." With a final adjustment of the collars, he stepped out from behind the screen, taking a moment to do a quick twirl. Smiling in satisfaction he nodded gratefully "These clothes are wonderful Agnes! I shall cherish them. Now," he took another sip of coffee and smiled with something like happiness at her "Shall we depart for the morgue?"
-
"'Just' friends, mon ange?" Roi smiled sadly at Agnes "That is far more than I could have hoped just three hours ago." Taking a long, deep sip of his coffee he nodded "I'll help. I am a little curious about how that card from the Deck of Fools got into Hatchet's hands as well. And Handsome Jack" he scowled "I want to know what stake he has in this too." Feeling his wet coat with a sigh of irritation he got up, stretching his lean, lightly soaked legs a little. "Do you think that...dead man will be at the morgue?" he asked Agnes suddenly "We might get a few clues, more than we ever would while he lived."

"The display of the portrait for La Comtesse Constance de Domremy, a little while ago in Freedom City" Marceau explained with a gloomy note "I believe there was some news of that. That was when, and where it happened. The picture came from a recording taken by some of my agents in Calais. As for why we think she's coming here..." he shrugged awkwardly, tugging off his cape and neatly rolling it up to tie it onto his belt "It is as monsieur de Saens says. He is a very mystical sort" he added in a hurried murmur to the Detective.

GM Mary glared at the newly-revealed Pitch, and even the demon in the piano seemed to recoil a little at the woman's approach. The pianist reared up, eyes alight with infernal power, raising her hands to begin another devilish piece when Riff's sonic attack screamed through and around her, knocking her and the possessed instrument through the air, slamming both of them against the far wall in an explosion of plaster dust and wood fragments! The dust cleared, showing Ms. Venn slumped over the opened the piano case and groaning in pain as she slowly got up, and just for a moment a face made of flame flickered across the black wood. "Oh dear me..." Riff heard Celeste mutter, the Beaudrie matron wincing at the sight of the damage.

The mighty punch of the anachronistic robot flung the young hero back head over heels across the exhibit, the patriotic paragon flipping elegantly back to his feet with a flourish of the Bandera, spinning it between his fingers with a cocky smirk and a fervent hope that Blodeuwedd had seen him do it. Seeing the Welsh monster hunter's sword glance off his smile vanished with a wince, and Madame Vapeur's taunt got her a cold glare. "Big talk from somebody too scared to be here!" Subito challenged, hurling himself at the Oscar robot with a powerful kick straight at its shoulder! Launching off from the automaton, he landed and readied himself to defend the frazzled steam detective, the flag held loosely in his hands, knees bent and shoulders tensed for action. "Don't let her get to you Blodeu, we must keep our heads in the game!" he called earnestly over to the girl. 'Did you see how she did that flip?! So cool... Herald, if you get lovelorn over this girl... Dama Azul, come on, were all the other dudes you've worked with celibate? They were all women and not really, if you mother is any evidence. Still, clean thoughts!'
