1. El Heraldo started at the noise of the breaking bottle preceded by the muttered exclamation of the drunkard, for all that he had seen the thing fly through the air the report of its impact still hit his ears almost painfully. Wincing, he called over to the man reassuringly "Greetings, citizen! I come in peace, seeking an escaped traitor to our kind. Have you seen anyone else pass by here just now? A man dressed in a dark cloak? I must take them alive and take them with me to prevent them doing evil here." He glanced worriedly at the portal Maybe I should- Subito. NO. But what if- No. That will not be necessary. ...Fine. I'll stay here like she said to. Good youth.
2. GM The quiet relief that washed over Martin's face was partially obscured by the immense growth of facial hair he had obtained, but wwas disernable nonetheless. That got an odd look of curiosity "Hmmmm. I wonder if they have anything really sweet besides honey." Martin scratched at his Methsuelahthian beard "You know, that would help explain all this. I could never grow a beard before we got here, I just thought it was because i stopped shaving every day that this thing sprang up." He listened closely to the rest of what jay said, nodding at the conclusion to show his agreement before speaking "With you a hundred percent Mr. Xavier, I dare say we'll get more folks who want to 'pretend to' speak with a cheetah than to see a race anyway. I'll see what I can do about getting an audience with Archimedes when he gets back, one of his students has been helping me figure out a good time to meet the guy in his schedule, which is crazily-full, I don't mind telling you" he shook his head in slight amazement "So..very well, I'll start getting the word out about us" he got to his feet, smiling warmly at Jay "If you want to go for a stroll the beaches nearby are quite lovely, and the city has a lot of really neat old buildings and sculptures, stuff that we haven't found in our age!" Patting Jay on the back, Martin walked back through the door, humming cheerfully to himself.
3. "Can't any of the guys studying to be wizards or whatever help?" asked Subito in puzzlement "There's bound to be at least some similarity between what you do." "Anyways, since nobody's got any problem with it, this way to the library!" he said excitedly, unnecessarily leading the quartet up to the pleasant and inviting David Sloane Library out the door of the cafeteria, along the gnetly winding footpath, around the sharp bend of the super-school's main concourse of buildings surrounding the Quad, and up the low steps to the front door, which he held open for the other three to pass throuhg first "After you guys" he said briskly.

His hair is curly, and cut shortly and as neatly as he can manage it, his eyes are spaced close together and are often shaded out of sight by the cap, and when seen have a narrow, suspicious look. His nose is short and broad, while his mouth is often turned slightly downward to help convey the message given by the eyes. His limbs are short, and he has rather large hands and feet for his age. he frequently wears white t-shirts and blue jeans. In his guise as the gaudy El Heraldo, he wears a brilliantly-colored and heavily-padded jacket. His pants are blue-and-red gold-checkered tights, and his feet are covered with heavy leather boots. A broad cloth bandanna around his head suffices to conceal his identity, with a sky blue feathered hat hat completing the bizarre costume. He carries in this guise a large flagpole, to which is bound the flag of Puerto Rico. Power Descriptions: El Heraldo's powers are signaled by a glow around Subito's body, which takes the rough form of an immense flag made of golden smoke. His powers are an extension of the national spirit he is the host of, which increased his physical power and hearing, as well as the power of flight and a slowly increasing range of powers related to communication. History:
Subito Sondo was born in the year 1995 on the island protectorate of Peurto Rico, in the municipality of Adjuntas. His parents, Pavor and Broma, were lower-middle class artisans, specifically metalworkers. His sister was a bold and and terrifying champion of the oppressed for miles around in their town, and the rest of his family were the thunderous, solid people who usually went totally unnoticed in a crowd. Throughout his young life, Subito was surrounded by noise: cars, passing celebrants, loud arguments or even deafening conversations on engrossing topics all combined to make what he can recall of his life in Puerto Rico an endless din. As a result, he grew up expecting noise to be around him at all times, and was rarely dissapointed. Noise became for him a sort of sanctuary, a comforting indicator that all was well. Silence became a warning, a mark that something horrible or disagreeable had happened. His family had a good employ for 8 of Subito's years of life, but a sudden tragedy, the attack of the supervillain Mas Severas against a visit by the Allies of Justice to the municipality, which while it resulted in no loss of life did destroy the family's business. Leaving for Freedom City in 2003, the family got themselves well-ensconced in the Lincoln district, where some relatives helped them find open positions in the Fun-Time Toys factory still active near the docks. Glad for the gainful employment, Pavor and Broma managed to slowly but steadily raise their standard of living over the years, their children proceeding smoothly through school and all things considered life was good. When Subito turned 15 life continued to be good, even after Subito lied about his age to get a job at the same factory his parents worked at (a lie aided by his unusually strong and tall build), and on his first day he tried to catch a wroker who had leaned a bit too hard against an insufficiently-secured handrail, dozens of feet above vats of a solution that worked wonders keeping paint on surfaces, but was deathly hazardous to humans. Subito's footing failed him when he grabbed the other man around the waist, and both tumbled towards a certain death, the workers who could see the scene trying futilely to do something to help. Subito and the other man were abruptly stopped in mid-air, a few yards above the poisonous vat of blue mixture. Surprised, Subito looked up to behold a golden fog about him, and looking after a minute's hesitant experimentization, found he could move himself through the air. Carrying the other man back up to the catwalk, he realized that his strenth had been enhanced (and as he later learned, his endurance), his hearing incredibly sharpened, and that because of the latter he could hear clearly the furious argument being carried out between his parents, the union leaders, and the manager of the factory. Thankfully, the only negative thing that resulted from that episode was that he was merely fired for lying about his age. His family were too surprised, the union too grateful (both for the extra bargaining room and because nobody was hurt in that instance), and the management too furious to discover that one of Toy-Boy's subtler booby-traps had escaped their notice, for any graver punishement to befall him. Also adding to his sense of giddiness as he went to sleep that night was the quiet, insistent voice that grew louder in his sleep, trying to tell him something in Spanish about a meeting. He gave it no thought until later that night, when he was awoken by a gentle tap on his head, jumping out of bed to his feet, he was greeted by a vision of a Hispanic woman wearing blue armor, bearing a vast collection of weapons on her back, and riding a ram sheep, in the vision almost totally transparent. This apparition informed Subito that his family was in possession of an old battle-standard, bearing the coat-of-arms of Puerto Rico (the original flag having been destroyed in 1511), which had been used in nearly every successful battle involved in making Puerto Rico a Spanish holding since it had been made in 1500. As a result, a spirit of victory had attached itself to the banner, lending strength of will and protection from harm to those who held it. The spirt then told Subito that it had slowly grown over the ages, until it had become the national spirit of Puerto Rico, having melded with the ruling entities of the island's Taino tribes after their destruction by the Spanish colonists in the Taino rebellion. The infusion of the memories and power of the tribal spirits was a gigantic step on the Blue Dame's path to sapience. Over the years she (used for ease of reference, 'it' wasn't considered acceptable to her) had grown in knowledge and strength, but the various forces that fought for the island divided and weakened her over and over again. It was only now, when the island nation's sense of self was at another height, that she could empower an individual with her gifts as her herald. She told Subito that she had chosen him over his sister because of his more focused personality. Galanta, to the spirit's mind, while excellent material for a herald of hers was rather too concerned with fighting as an end to itself to give much thought to what the fighting was for. But, she warned the nearly gleeful Subito, she would not stand for any slacking in what she was entrusting to him. As he followed her directions to the hidden chest containing the banner, she told him that he would, to keep his powers, have to keep from acting selfishly or with his sole betterment in mind, and any reneging would be instantly punished. The chest was easy enough to find with the Blue Dame's instruction, and with little trouble he put it back together and took it to a nearby abandoned lot, where the Blue Dame taught him how to use the banner to don the traditional costume of a Herald of Puerto Rico. After a crash course on how to use his powers, the Blue Dame retired into the banner, telling Subito to hurry home, due to the extreme lateness of the hour, and that in the morning he would find the next step on his journey waiting for him. Subito slept soundly, and it took Galanta hauling him out of bed, seating him in a chair, and giving him a light cuff on the shoulder to wake him. He found himself staring into the piercing gaze of a narrow, darkly-clothed man with graying hair at the temples, the rest brown and cut short. The Raven II, Subito learned later, had an informant in the factory the accident had occurred in, and had told Summers about the bizarre incident the same day it had happened. The interview with Duncan Summers was short and painless, except for Broma and Pavor outdoing each other in tearfully telling Subito how he must remember to do what they would wish him to do at the bizarre school Summers was offerring to train him at. Galanta kept her peace, saying as much as their parents with a cold, narrow-eyed stare. After agreeing with Summers that it would be a great idea to learn how to use his powers correctly in a more controlled environment, little was left to do but pack and prepare for the autumn quarter.
Personality & Motivation: As El Heraldo, Subito acts as he thinks he ought to, doing his best to be just, kind, fair and honest as he knows how. He enjoys the anonymity of the mask, as it lets him be what he likes without repercussion on how he is viewed as Subito. Out of costume, he is loud, impetuous and full of gusto for whatever he does, having been brought up to see silence as suited only for holy or sorrowful occaisions. His morals are fairly straightforward, and he gives litle thought or time to the why of his ethics. He equates thinking with doing, incomprehending how somebody could think up things they might do, and never act on any of them, and has a hard time understanding how one philosophy or belief system being true doesn't negate the others' validity. On the other hand, he is loath to bring issues like that up in conversation, seeing them as interesting challenges to be overcome on one's own, and would never dream of trying to make people more like himself. Powers & Tactics: El Heraldo has limited resources and severe limits to his gifts, meaning hie must take great care with whom and how he fights. As a profoundly heated individual, however, he is unlikely to do so, instead dashing into the fray with unmitigated aplomb and vigor, no matter how outmatched he might be, using the power of his standard to evoke hope for victory in any compatriots. Complications: Power Loss: Subito is granted his powers only so long as he uses them for the benefit of others. If he uses them for the sole purpose of bettering himself, they shall be revoked. Responsibility: Family. He feels honor-bound to serve his family's needs above his own. Secret: Identity. While he always has his powers, he knows his family is largely defenseless. Underaged: Subito isn't a legal adult, with all the restrictions that come with that condition. The Who-What Now?: Subito has almost no idea who's who or what's what in the complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel he's gotten himself into. Feel free to blindside him. What are you wearing?!: El Heraldo's garb is..distinctive, to say the least, and it's flashiness is fertile ground for misconceptions, easy recognition by enemies, and being nearly impossible to sneak in. 5. Cheers! May your gyro be true to the last, and I hope you return happily to this day for many years to come! :toot:
6. With a slow nod, Subito took up his section of the robot, following Serge back through the base until they reached the dank hallways leading to the the factory floors. Redonning the mantle of El Heraldo, Subito carefully put their cargo down, and zoomed off into the pulsing, thundering factory interior, searching for the best place to start busting things up. He found it in a chokepoint where the finished weapons were shuttled up to the conveyer belt. Apparently the different kinds of rifles, pistols and other small arms were made in different plants throughout the factory, their tracks all leading to one central belt that led to the dumping point the two had already seen. It was the work of a moment to tear the tough but aged metal to peices, leading to a quickly growing pileup of firearms at the intersection as the guns were dumped down onto the wrecked and now immobile transport. After that, he made his golden and blue way throughout the lower reaches of the factory, dismantling the engines powering the refineries and drilling machines before returning. El Heraldo dusted off his very grimy hands and flew back to Net Fly's side, landing with a look of distaste as he inspected a broad, oily smear on his costume "This'll come off if I change back, right?" he asked Serge "Anyway, this place won't be shipping out more weapons anytime soon."

9. Subito wasn't a born scholar, his penchant for action before thought generally kept him from most higher aptitudes, but he was quite studious, and took his school assignments quite seriously. So it seemed to him quite sensible to have multiple studying buddies to consult and tackle difficult subjects. The stocky Puerto Rican, dressed in his normal body-hugging white t-shirt and blue jeans with attendent school-colors baseball cap, glared at the unwelcome figure, tossing a green satchel of books and other school supplies deftly onto a small rounded lift in the thick school lawn. Walking directly up to the cameraman he demanded brusquely "Why are you here Mr. Jackson? If you want to take pictures of people, it's usually best to ask 'em first, otherwise you look even sketchier than you already do" his eyes narrowed "Besides, the 'disaster' can at least solve the problems she gets into, and she gets into them 'cause she wants to help people. Speakin' of which, maybe she will go and see the people she rescued from a fricking torture-ship! What's it to you?" A sudden realization sent a surge of blood into his cheeks "Also, I ain't her boyfriend!"

Marceau Suvou had been hearing rumors about this exhibit for a couple of months now, and had been eagerly anticipating it nearly every week since. Animals from far-off alnds were dear to his heart, as they recalled his happy days traveling the world with his mother and father many years ago. Leaning on the enclosure, the tall, red coverall-clad Frenchman smiled fondly down at the scampering young dingos on the sanded floor, watching their bright and curious eyes dart around along with their tails at the milling crowd around them. He knew by reputation that dingos were vicious predators, but the sight of the gamboling pups warmed his heart all the same. He had just finished his day shift(the accountants were even more horribly filthy in their habits than usual), and was preapring himself for the long night of crime-fighting ahead by socializing with the people he defended, always pleasant. He turned to wander away into the crowd again when the echoing roar reached his ears. Initially frozen in place, he sprang into action, leaping behind a squad of porta-johns to discard his coveralls, pulled on his cowl, flared his cape, and firing his grapple gun at a convenient tree, quickly hoisted himself into a better vantage point. Frowning at the giant mutated cats(What? I...what?) that stormed into view, he began planning his next move, slid a shock rod from its sheathe in his belt, looked at it, then at the cat, and cringed.

Tagged, and he's called the King of Suits, not the King of Hearts, that's someone totally different!
12. "Good plan! Here are the legs, I'll take the rest" Subito said briskly, swinging the metal bulk carefully into his comrade's waiting arms before securing his own handholds on the jerking thing and leading the way back into the freight elevator, all but punching the button to begin the long drop back down into the factory. Letting his end down to stand it up facing the rear wall, the powerfully-built Hispanic leaned an elbow on it, talking evenly to Serge over the rattles and jolts of the slowly descending lift "So, how do you want to wreck their weapons-making thing? Want me to just smash up the conveyers, block the weapons from getting into those bins?"
13. The robots are around 500 lbs.(about 225kgs.) Using Super-STR to increase effective STR to 35, which makes 1024lbs. a Light Load. Picking it up in a fireman's hoist and carrying it back to the elevator.
14. A look of slight bafflement came over Subito's face, and looking up from the control panel he had started examining he began "Huh? But I fe-oh" realization "Uh...right. Sorry Surge, forgot you feel temps a lot sharper than I do" he said, muttering almost inaudibly as he quickly turned back to the control panel. A sudden idea came to him, and he left the elevator to follow Serge just as the other student made plain they couldn't have one of the robots as a mascot "Whaaat? Nah man, that's more your and Cole's thing. If you guys wanted a robot buddy, I bet you'd have made one already" he said jovially "Here. lemme carry that robot, it won't be much problem for me, unless you want to lift one of those things around" he added with a grin, checking the heft of the metal bulk with his arms.

16. It took a few seconds for the jolt of moving through time to wear off on the young paragon, who briefly halted in mid-air, shaking his head to clear it and focus on the chase, the shout of anger mingling in his head with a sudden flurry of questions as the last few seconds came back to him Wait...I thought I...what happened O Blue Dame? he asked in bafflement, looking and listening about him for his quarry We have become confused came the clear tones of his patron, sounding just and disconcerted as he we must take care this does not happen often. We will be forced to part if it does. Gotch- began Subito's mental confirmation just before Agnus's message hit him. He was briefly shocked by the torrent of curses, face reddening furiously as the angry words shot into his mind. At last he managed to call on the Blue Dame to send a message in return O spirit of Justice, El Heraldo will remain where he is, we are both sorry for our haste, myself especially. The child is my charge, and placing him in harm's way like this was foolish of me. We await your arrival.
17. GM As the four descended in their own fashions, it soon became obvious that the tunnel was all but freshly-made. Instead of the dankness, rot and decay that would have followed a forgotten urban cavern like this, there was a dryness in the air, with long marks on the concrete around them that were still sharp, the iron and coper ladder was at first a little grimy, but became cleaner and cleaner as they went down, not to mention the total absence of any insect or animal life to be seen or heard anywhere. One thing that was odd was the light. A steady orange and yellow glow gradually illumianted their surroundings, cast as they eventually found(about half-way down and two minutes in) by sheltered burning lamps that gave no smoke at all. THe place took on an odd, cinnamon-like smell, and long tapestries showing various kinds of swords began to decorate the walls of the long tunnel. When at last the four heroes arrived at the bottom, they found themselves on a deeply-carpeted floor a dimly-lit, darkly ornamented(mostly grinning heads made of bronze) series of long, narrow tunnels about 8ft. high and 3ft. across, wooden walls with a myriad of small horizontal slits for windows into other dizzying passages, a faint noise of the city above, and otherwise near-total silence. A red insignia of the Japanese word '鉄' marked each passage, though each was made slightly differently...
18. Brightening at the compliments payed, Subito grinned, a little embarrassment creeping in all the same "Thanks man, you're a way smart guy, and normally I'd follow your lead with no problem, but this seemed..I dunno, a bit trickier than either of us could really decide? Nah, that's not it..." He dismissed his powers with flash of light, and pulling his baseball cap from his rear left pocket looked around at the rusting hulk they were standing in, sliding it on with rough care "Say, this place is givin' me the creeps for real, what say you Surge about what should we do before leaving? Take one of those robots just in case the place collapses on them?"
19. Gulping a little louder than he would have if his bravado jig wasn't up, El Heraldo did his best to keep his gaze and voice level as he spoke to the super-assassin "Really? Well, I guess I can understand that somewhat, but you still kill for no reason besides pay. If you want to be self-sufficient and all, why not just get into a business where you're really needed, and not just disposable muscle? Then you an start saving up, and if you get a job other than killing people you'll have less to fear from people coming for payback or to keep from having to pay you, or just plain having to go on the run from the law. After, um..." a near-gulp, a stronger note in his voice "...after you surrender to the police, and serve your sentence for the crimes you've done." He clenched the banner in his hand, his knuckles whitening as he stood his ground, knowing that he might well get a punch to the head for the last suggestion.
20. EH's WIS check to think up a good argument, DC10 minimum: 13, succeeded.
21. It had taken a bit of maneuvering, but at last Subito had figured out how to arrange the flagstaff to keep it from bumping against anyone else in the car: temporarily passing it into the realm the Blue Dame mainly inhabited, with the understanding that when it was needed she would hand it right back, no matter the circumstances. His sky-blue feathered cap fluttering elegantly in the breeze caused by the car, El Heraldo listened with a deepening frown to Todd's tale, looking more and more concerned as the man went on. When at last the winding story of Serpent People, evil ancestors and dynamited archaeology digs concluded, he said angrily "Why didn't you tell someone? when you were outside the house, at least? I bet the snakey guys wouldn't want to reveal themselves by killing a dude in broad daylight, not if there were people around anyway." He glared at the warehouse Hayden indicated, adding a bit more softly "We'll do this gladly, but please, if you ever get caught up in something like this again, tell someone! Secrecy is our enemies' greatest weapon." as the car stopped he got out, the Banner appearing above his head just high enough for him to catch it before it fell on him. Leaning on the gently waving red white and blue, he closed his eyes and concentrated on the sounds about him, searching for any sign of their enemy... Man, Morgan is growly today. I wonder if- To intimidate, and impress the words more strongly. ...Oh, okay, that makes more sense.
22. Tagging, because What Could Go Wrong? Also I was reading Shaen's manifesto of threads, and just realized how handy his idea of 'backdoors'(pre-made excuses for heroes to take off in case the player can't post in the thread for a while/vanishes) would be for disappearances like Airon's. Do you think we should set up things like that for this
23. Okay, combat times. Using the Gremlin archetype from the Crooks! 2E book(let me know if you don't have it, I'll post their stats in a spoiler tag). Right now ten are in immeditate combat, and shall be followed by two more 'waves' of the things in equal numbers. Their Initiaive roll: 23. KoS's Initiative roll: 23, don't that beat all.
