emerald city Emerald City Crime Wave!
Ari replied to Raveled's topic in The Lighthouse: Catchphrase!
The As-You-Will Gold-Banded Staff is an incredible weapon and stealing it from, say, the Pacific Museum of Art with nobody the wiser would be a pretty classic Emerald City heist. Unfortunately somebody else just learned it's there and that some folks want to steal it. How it got there in the first place can tie into Sun Walker's metaplot, how about? -
You don't need to apologize for actual physical thngs making a collaborative fanfic even more of a hassle. I'm glad you're fine, Bluefish.

That's fine, Blarghy. Right now people are a little more worried about not drowning when Rayzer definitely blows up the Platform. Which he will totally do. He is a dangerous man. Yep.

Well in the stories it was impossibly heavy. The Dragon Society may have just stolen it in the staff's needle form and Monkey needs his heir to get it back so nobody else knows he lost it. Just because he's more powerful than Pun-Pun doesn't mean he can't lose things in the wash! -

Knight, Sun Wukong's staff was formerly held, as you well know, by a dragon. And the local Triad, the Golden Dragon Society, has an interest in mystic artifacts. What I am saying is that there's a binding tie here. -
Take the time you need, Darksider. If your local community does literally anything getting involved can help a lot, if that suits your temperament.

GM The man James addressed glanced at him. Then back at the roaring monsters. Then at the inviting snowy forest. For an agonizing moment he paused, a keyfob-like object clutched in the hand not holding a gun, visibly weighing his own options as the melee roiled behind him. Then his eyes met James' and a decision was made. His hand squeezed and the manacles suppressing Quantum Shift's powers died with a low-pitched groan. They fell from his hands and feet with a tremendously satisfying *CHNK* muffled only slightly by the snow. The dam burst and once again endless potential flooded Shift's human host! "Don't make regret that!" the agent shouted over his shoulder as he charged back into the fray!

Gamer that is precisely one away from moving the Unfriendly MJ-20 agent to Friendly, so they are on the more benevolent side of Indifferent. They decide they need all the help they can get and deactivate Q-Shift's power shackles. Time for initiatives. The Agents: 11. The Sentry Agents: First goes on 12, Second goes on 23. Roll away, Gamer!

"Hyperslice to Monitor, Hyperslice to Monitor" Serenely, the words repeated into a close and stifling apartment, festooned with clothes, pieces of furniture and some complicated apparati that looked much less organized than if they'd just been introduced to a tornado. "Sssssbuh?" From out of a tangle of coils and limbs piled onto a bed two slitted eyes emerged, looking blearily at the slim commlet fallen under a table. After the message repeated a few more times, the eyes widened, and suddenly the still, dark room became a thrashing hive of activity as the hissing voice barked "Sssame time nexsst week! Out! Out!" Lending authority to the words were powerful and precise blows of brawny arms and a darting tail, which all combined soon sent the other occupants slithering out and into the halls, grabbing what they could from the wreckage while more than half-asleep. Barely taking pause to catch her breath, Skirris Sandwinder, heir of the Silver Shadow muscled on her sleek white starsuit over her golden scales, closed her eyes and flung herself where she needed to be. Landing on a chair in an undignified heap, the Hassan managed a vague salute "Presssent! Urrrgh, one...one moment..." Slithering onto the table she lay at full length, her head and tail tip brushing the floor as she struggled to regain equilibrium within. The pouding headache was no fun either.

"We respectfully decline to partake. Terran food is..unfamiliar to us. Still finding the right nutrient-extracts." Dol-Druth glanced up and down the opposing lines. He was a little irked to realize he had no notion how outré the "wrestlers" were dressed. Some of them looked...but then there were the other Terrestrians...all these primary colours everywhere...hopefully Earth's civilizing meant a refinement of dress. "We thank you for the thought, Miracle Girl," he added as the bulging alien began stumping over to a relatively off-side location "many who lost mind-loves are comforted to know that pain is understood by you. The Vigilant was a mighty ally to the galaxy's weakest, we hope people will say the same of Miracle Girl." For a moment, the frown cleared and the slumped face smiled kindly at the young woman. Lor homeworld. It stung more than the planet inspector had expected, to be reminded of how that bit of parochialism had spread. He would never have accused Granarchus Frankan or the other Vani of exploiting the tragic loss of Lor-Van for a smack of old-fashioned Source Star ideology seeding, but it was troubling all the same. The empire, so recently dead, seemed to reach out from the past and clutch at the galaxy's throat, its skeletal fingers a thousand whispers of commonality and united destiny... He clapped his thick hands together with a muffled boom "You understand your powers best, and the Hammer," the Speaker bowed to the man "has the most experience with you people of the League. We request only that those with flight remain in the middle reaches, neither striking nor defending. Aside from that, the teams are small enough not to need much management. Go to!"

GM Oum snapped her finers "Right, the evacuation plan...at this point is useless. It would take far more than ten minutes just to evacuate the base levels to the surface. Getting away from the Platform would take even longer. It's more designed for earthquakes or storms or incoming ships rather than Krios there threatening to blow this place up in a few minutes. Regardless, Panita?" "Already sent, Mz. O!" "Excellent." The short woman allowed herself a weary smile as the red alert blared into action, recorded voices announcing in several different languages the need to escape and where to go. A "Rayzer event" was mentioned. "Surfacing lifeboats are just down this hall, if you'll follow us, sirs." Settling into a light jog, Oum and Panita led the way to a wall full of recessed egg-shaped craft. Already the hallways filled with the site's workers and technicians, very confused but thankfully not panicking. As they hurriedly filed into the lifeboats, which closed around them and launched up and out with a dull roar, the PA system crackled again with Rayzer's voice ~"SEVEN MINUTES!"~

GM The saurian bared their teeth "Yes I know! I-" their grip, which had tightened hard enough to bend the metal of their command console, relaxed sharply. Taking a deep, slow breath, Raul began again "Yes, I am aware. Quasi-portal, accepts finer matter and energy only. I can transmit a drone to expand...make it a true interdimensional tunnel. Needs both of us to physically touch our respective ends. Sort of...relay of matter" Raul shed a gauntlet to put a claw, holding a slim silver shape, against the 'window', causing it to hiss and crackle fiercely. Visibly, the skin began to blister "It will be painful, only briefly, I am sorry but I know no other way. Please. Just a moment of contact, and my world, my people..." Raul's jaws began to shiver, and further talk seemed nearly impossible for them. Their claw bled, but they kept it against the spitting barrier.

GM Dr. Volk nodded, following Endeavor easily enough, while Director Powers busied himself with collecting what they needed. Dumping the eclectic assortment onto a clear table and getting the gear attached and ready for use, Horatio asked dubiously "I don't suppose it'd do much good to get into a MAX suit ourselves? Just make us easier targets for her?" For all that, he glanced longingly at the implacable armors. "Entirely useless. And too easy to track." Volk shrugged, handing over the small components Sakurako asked for out of her well-stuffed pockets. Powers sighed, sliding a pistol and ammunition down the table to Endeavor "Oh well. Would be nice if we could use them once when the 'Berg is under attack." Getting ready seemed to take an eternity of fumbling and sorting. But in minutes the trio wrre ready. And none too soon. "Sorry, got held up. But don't worry, none of them stood a chance." "And you won't either." The door slowly, begrudgingly, began to open on its own.

It was as she'd hoped. The man turned like lightning, ignoring Faster Pussycat and flowing into a low crouch as he adopted a fighting stance reminiscent of a hunting spider. Seeing his peril he lunged aside...only for his pushing leg to get caught in the mesh of warping space. Catching himself awkwardly before he hit the floor, the man writhed and tugged furiously, no longer able to focus on his enemies. Below her, Peri saw Salmon twitch, and then simply appear past the jacketed assassin, whose head crak'd painfully from side to side from the super-human speed of the boy's fists. Spitting out blood, the would-be killer slumped, clearly out of it. Almost as an afterthought, the holographic disguise lifted...revealing a man made of crackling static. Sliding awkwardly across the thin sheets of icy water, Ishmael caught himself with a scrabbling hand, panting a little as he surveyed his handiwork. Frowning at the sight his punches had revealed, he called up nervously "Hey! Uh..Spider! You know this guy?" 'Cause I don't...so what's he doing here? There aren't supposed to be any open supercrooks, what's going on?

"You are very calm about it, for a juvenile. But we suppose you have no choice there, either. Humans habitually fear outsiders to their systems and take any excuse to demonize what they do not understand. You must accept this or be worse off. A common thread." "Just as this room, the woman who spoke to us, the organization which rules here, all connected to similar global phenomena. There are spies in every country, every nation works to hoard the highest level of technology, but this 'AEGIS' combines those obsessions in a way unique to this landmass. There are different, even opposing organizations, but all in some way a branch of this stem. Even the 'UNISON' we wait to speak with." "Are these similarities, to you, merely superficial and misleading? According to our research they speak to a unity of belief. Even your fellow exceptionals tend to gather in secretive cliques or clans and drip-feed their discoveries, if they share them at all."

Kat can say with absolute certainty that this Raul guy is not lying. At least not intentionally. She also notices that he isn't "acting". He isn't looking at them, they can see him but he doesn't appear able to see them.

GM But Dr. Spencer and the rest of the school group had gotten ahead. And the glaring floodlights made it nigh-impossible to see beyond each dazzling pool of radiance and into the gloom necessary to disguise the cramped state of the A.S.T.R.O. warehouse. Meanwhile, the voice burst into a feverish laugh "Yesss, at last! Please hear me out! I am Raul, greatest of the Republic's minds. You have some sort of trans-Coil quasi-portal, I beg you, let me come through. Your atmosphere is breathable to us, you have other planets in your system, we won't stay long enough to bother you!" "My world is dying, my people are under seige and my children will starve if I can't find a new home!" The flickers cleared long enough for the two women to get a good look at this "Raul". He looked like a monstrous dinosaur, but scaly and stark red instead of brilliant plumage, dressed in heavy red and black armor. Out of the skull loomd a distended, grotesquely-enlarged brain that pulsed sickeningly. It was unlikely that either of them had ever seen a more miserable, pitiable creature; filthy, eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep, clearly injured through a gash in the breastplate and with an air of desperate terror that clung to every one of their curving teeth and every tremble of an armoréd limb. The hideous thing looked pleadingly through the window at them. For an instant a glitch replaced a corner of the screen with the image of Kaiju-stricken Freedom. "Please. This is my last chance."

GM Atlantis was only the second-most ostentatious semi-legal hotel-casino on the Boardwalk, but it needed a supply chain equal and a half to the Southside Palace downstream. Which made for plenty of entrances. For example, the water-treatment tunnels that kept the various streams and pools and aquariums supplied with clean, regularly-replaced water. The family didn't have money to burn, but to keep their license they needed to make sure nothing went wrong on as fine a line as possible. But the water was one thing they could not afford to skimp on. It was thoroughly checked, re-checked and evaluated every day and night to ensure the highest quality. Which left a very clear access point: wait for the maintenance staff to go in and follow after them, then vanish into one of the tunnels and find the secret passages. Like the secret passsage marked 'TO DOCKS'. Soon, Rose was in a dank, concrete maze filled with the sound of rushing water, the distant thump of music and a thousand other things. The pipes carrying used water ran overhead, but vanished into walls or bent into the ceiling to make following them a maddening process. It was dark, too, the floors being flat and clear was all that made it bearable. A few of the pipes leaked, just a little, leaving wet patches or standing pools. The passageways were otherwise completely empty. And the kinds of doors that Theo had mentioned were nowhere in evidence...
