GM The scrap of random paper found on the floor of a much-used getaway car led Velocity to a surprisingly well-appointed part of West End, a block due west of the City Center and part of the Historic Series, buildings and streets remarkable for their part in Freedom's history and preserved for the edification of tourists and future generations. In this case, the building was a red-brick mass of apartment complexes in a style that hadn't been used much since the turn of the last century. The walls had been artfully spread with grime and weathered with painstaking care, with the result of making the place both out-of-time and distinctly gloomy. A plaque outside on the manicured front lawn explained that 88th St. was "...where the first communities of late European immigrants were formed, and which formed the nucleus for West End's expansion as families made their home in Freedom..." At about the time Velocity pulled up to take momentary stock of the situation, a sudden explosion boomed, a high window shattered and a cloud of chemical smoke billowed out of it! Screams and other sounds of chaos rang out! Oddly enough, only one tenth-floor window had broken, and only it gave any sign that anything was wrong.

Everyone there is around 15-20 ft. from each other, so around 5 1/2 meters, easily within one Move Action, to the point where I'd waive it as an issue and not worth using up and entire Action. As for picking up and throwing things and people, that's covered by page 36 of the Core Rules. It takes a Move Action to pick somebody up, and a Standard action to throw them. You'd need to clear it with Rob though, as Cho might not like being hoisted up and thrown around after being disoriented by heat and pain. You could also, if you wish, SURGE for a Move action, allowing you to shoulder-check Thoughtspeed out of the fiery sea.

Miss-chance contest roll: 1. That is indeed a Critical Hit. A natural 20, and it would have hit regardless. DC 29 Toughness save: 18. A Staggered and Dazed condition. And that roll means Cho is Bruised again and Dazed. Which happens after the hit is landed, for the sake of smoothness. Round two! Red Salamander #1: Bruise(x1)-GM Thoughtspeed: Staggered, Dazed, 1HP Yellow Salamander: Unharmed-GM Black Salamander: Bruise(x1), Dazed, Staggered-GM BabyBrawler: Unharmed, 2HP Stronghold: Unharmed, Red Salamander #2: Unharmed-GM Cho Lee: Bruise(x2), Dazed, 1HP Red Salamander 1 takes a Standard Action to shoot the ceiling above Cho, attempting to trap her underneath a pile of rubble! That makes for a DC20 Reflex save to manage to evade the collapsing debris. And a DC15 TOU save if failed along with being Pinned and Prone thanks to the collapse. This takes action upon Cho's turn, rather than instantly. Then Red 1 Move Action to get next to Red Salamander 2. Also, any of Cho's active team-mates can intervene, at the expense of their Action for that turn, be it getting her out of the way or shielding her from the rubble. Yellow Salamander sustains his Concealment power, and takes a Full-Round Action to race over to the vault primary door, leaving full cover and taking up partial cover in the doorway. BabyBrawler is up! And must roll again to dodge/resist the fires, DCs unchanged from 22 Reflex and 27 Toughness.

Okay, so. Stunting Super-Senses 12 off of...the existing Super-Senses Red Moon already has. In this case it's Mental Detect Emotion(Anger), with Analytical(so what it's against and why), with the Accurate Extra, the Radius Extra, and the Ranged/Rapid Extras(6 and 5, respectively). Notice roll to try and find Gamma's special brand of rage: 5. And she's not rerolling that. So, Fatigued. And minus a HP, back to 1 Hero Point. At least she's got that for the rest of the encounter! Take it away, Tiff. And don't worry, circumstances will contrive either way.

GM "Yes, yes! Exactly!" hollered Prof. Cavesson as the superheroines moved out of earshot, "Adam's just confused, he doesn't need fixing..." For her part, Red Moon shrugged noncommittally. It wasn't her place anyway. As an outsider to the Freedom City colleagen-space, her wishes were subordinate to the other inhabitants'. And besides, like the massive Grue woman said, they could always decide what to do with Gamma once he was in their power. 'Maybe that machine will work on him, although that is a stretch' she thought idly, arcing over the buildings within view of Freedom City University as she pushed her mind to its limit, hunting for the tell-tale pulse of frustrated rage that the Nucleic Marauder. For a hulking blue man blazing with atomic breakdowns, Gamma was remarkably hard to spot in the busy cityscape that spread before her veiled corpse eyes. Sliding to a halt Atraxia's synthesized voice thrummed and whistled through the air "One second, Miss. I will attempt to locate our quarry by mental scan" Raising her hands to her helmet, the lunar vampire closed her corpse eyes and knelt in mid-air like the old mentats of Farside City had, and cast her soul free from its corporeal shell. Or at least, that part that felt the realm of rushing blood and tingling skin all around her, the part of her hateful being that thirsted for the surrounding world of life. This hunting piece instantly began to trace the thoughts and moods of those nearby, trying to capture amid the havoc of untrained and riotous brains a powerful strand of anger.

GM "'Pitch', huh?" the old man mused aloud, peering at the woman's face closely for a long moment. Shrugging, he moved further inside, swinging the door open behind him "Well, anyone that open about being darned weird can't be too dangerous, c'mon in. Name's Ben Shammer. Uh," he glanced down at the demon-carrier's boots "wipe your feet on the mat, would ya?" As Carmen entered the cool, low building, Tazel almost gibbered 'So...clean...yrgh!' Following the old man, Pitch encountered nothing more sinister than some neat, small offices, all of them occupied by quiet people working at their desks. Most looked up at the unfamiliar footfall, and then even more at the unfamiliar sight of a biker marching down the hall, but not a one of them showed much curiosity beyond that. The Mayor turned out to be Eddie Tumlin, a tall, raw-boned man with an air of tired strength. He was looking over a pile of forms when the pair barged in, and jerked from being half-asleep to fully awake when he saw the woman glowing with an inner fire. Clearing his throat, Ben stepped over to the desk and muttered something about "The notes" involving those "arrivals". Eyes narrowing as the old man whispered huskily, his voice partly drowned out of Pitch's hearing by the droning ceiling fan, the mayor nodded and, reaching under his desk with a stretch that moved the muscle and bone under his shirt in fascinating ways, retrieved a small and sturdy metal box that he plunked on the desk, obscuring the forms he'd been reading either by accident or design. A moment, a turn of a key, and Pitch had a stack of letters in white paper, in white envelopes, with a simple name in the sender's corner. One word: 'Springsvale'. They practically crackled at Carmen's touch, and even Tazel stopped his griping to 'peer' at them, his own senses feeling out the power that sheathed the crisp paper. "They're all there. Never threw one away, burned, shredded, chucked in the river, nothing." Speaking for the first time, Mayor Tumlin's voice was grim and slow. Like he was weighing every word. "If you're wanting the writer, that's the only clue we have."

GM Dodging invisible psychic blades(let alone ones wielded by somebody as fast as thought) was something few people had to do, so not many had that particular skill. but after Will's initial strike against the coiled Red Salamander, his focused mental energy leaving pain that Thoughtspeed felt across the plane of minds, the man spasming as his nerves clamored, the armored arsonist suddenly pulled himself together, and the synapse-quick young man found himself slashing at air. Ducking and dodging away with incredible dexterity, the Red Salamander regained his footing and composure several feet away, loosely holding the arm Will had hit. "Not bad at all. Red 2! Yellow 5! Black 2! Foreburn!" At once, the others began moving, the black-suit removing their helmet entirely to emit a cloud of smoke around BabyBrawler, the acrid mass seeming to try and claw into her nose and throat. It didn't do more than make her mouth taste awful, and the subsequent retaliatory smash of her leg to Black's torso sent the creature smashing and bouncing across the floor, rolling to their feet with shaky legs and a badly-dented suit. From the dull fire in deeper pits of darkness in the center of the swirling smoke, however, they were yet unbowed. With nowhere much else to go, the smoke began drifting lazily through the hole in the floor, spiraling gently up and out of the bank. A sharp *snap* resounded. The Yellow Salamander had ducked up over the counters long enough to take stock of the situation, and to take action. Before the first echo died away the images appeared. The Salamanders became wreathed in shimmering heat waves, the flickering shapes coiling and coalescing into one another, making multiples and changing place until it was nearly impossible to tell where the 'real' arsonists were standing. "Foreburn has never worked better'n Afterburn, Red One!" the red-suited woman called over the din, her feet abruptly ringed with flames that started merrily melting their way through the floor "But whatever, lake of fire coming up!" Slamming a foot on the steaming, hissing tiles, the Red Salamander sent her flames roaring around the other four, followed soon after by a blast of heat like the heroes next to the Reds or Black had just wandered into a furnace. The wave crashed into and rolled over Thoughtspeed and BabyBrawler, surrounding them with a world of ever-changing, searing heat! The diminutive bruiser managed to roll with the mass of fire, escaping the worst of it and landing safely on the intact floor, but the psychic speedster wasn't so lucky, and for a few seconds of eternity, Will was surrounded by a world of inescapable pain! As the sprinklers rained down fruitlessly on the blast, broken pipes spilling water onto the floor that turned to steam or futile puddles, the Red leader commented "Good thing you bunch got here before we had the money. You've saved us a lot of trouble, you know that? Now it'll be even easier to get those brats here..."

'Oh, Deadshots. Of course. Why didn't I think of that place first thing?' Due to his job (both of them), Marceau rarely had the time, reason or spare money to frequent the place. That and his tastes for alcohol ran a little higher-end than the Fens really catered to. 'I haven't had a good Reims champagne in years' the young Frenchman thought dismally, getting to his feet with a grimace. The pain wasn't getting any better. And it was a little harder to breath than before, too. Setting his jaw, the King of Suits hoisted Carl onto his shoulder once more, handing the man his water bottle 'Nothing for it. I have to find this out at the source!' "Hold tight with your arms, let your legs dangle Carl. I have you, and won't let go. The sniper can wait, and is easily avoided, it's Deadshots for us!" With long, rapid and very quiet strides, Marceau began loping through the twisted alleys and back streets of the Fens, careful to keep out of view of any roofs. It didn't sit right with him to leave a danger to the public undealtwith, but if he reached the bar he might get some clues to deal with them, and some information. Enough to make a decent start once he found the gunman. On the way there Marceau racked his brain for all he knew about the bar, its patrons, its owner, recent trouble, rumors, anything that might hint at the part it played beyond 'meeting-ground' for this little tragedy. And as he marched in the door, seating Carl at a table near the door, he gave the place a quick scan to get a feel for the mood. As well as any likely-looking troublemakers.

Stealth roll(could use Skill Mastery, but screw that): 32. Hm. Once they reach Deadshots, the following rolls: Knowledge(Streetwise) 19. Gather Information(Well-Informed): 22. Sense-Motive: 17. And finally, Notice: 22.

Yeah Valcili, I screwed up that explanation. Let me try again. So by 'DC22 Reflex saves for Thoughtspeed and BabyBrawler to avoid or halve the damage, which is base DC27.' I meant "If the Reflex save is failed, then the Toughness save is DC27". If successful, and if you didn't have the Evasion Feat, it would have been DC21 Toughness.

DC24 TOU save: 16. Bruised and Dazed. Fiating that the Daze does not take effect, have a Hero Point Valcili.(BabyBrawler at 2HP). Red Salamander creates a field of fire around herself, the other Red Salamander and the Black Salamander. In practice that's a Sustained Duration Area Attack(General, Selective Attack) for the other two, and an Aura for her. DC22 Reflex saves for Thoughtspeed and BabyBrawler to avoid or halve the damage, which is base DC27. Cho Lee is up after I post IC.

GM Rene Shrugging noncommittally, Marsha started wrapping the painting in brown paper from a roll under her chair. It was quick work, and the woman did it with the unthinking speedy care of somebody very well-used to such work. "You were right" she said at last, offering the package to Rene "It was a dream. Not that that's real important, right?" The artist smiled glumly "A lot of crazy stuff happens when our brains go shuffling through our memories and imagination. And I live in Freedom, so what's weird about seeing the place as full of nothing but supers? Not like they aren't the most interesting part, anyway. From what I've been reading the tech sector is the only place where we really excel. And that? Pretty much all supers, backed by supers or with superhuman help. My sister works at A.S.T.R.O. Labs, says they get the Atoms in there once a month to figure out some new wavelength none of the normies can even understand. It really is like we're from different worlds..." She'd been staring into space during that brief speech, but as it finished she laughed it off, glancing half-nervously at the old man as she began packing up her easel and chair. "Sorry, but I gotta go. Family dinner, and my mom's nothing if not a high-stress kinda gal. Seriously, I feel sometimes like it'd make her happier if I just fell off a bridge so she couldn't be so disappointed in me. Marsha," she added, shaking the ancient Frenchman's hand before turning to go "but it's on the canvas too, so...whatever. Nice to meet you, hope to see you again." With that and an only partly-false smile, she wandered off into the crowds, soon vanishing amidst the mass of teeming humanity starting their day.

That does indeed hit. It doesn't exceed his Defence though. DC20 TOU save: 18. A Bruise. Yellow Salamander takes the field. He casts Concealment on the other Salamanders. It creates a double-vision effect from shimmering heat-waves, meaning the heroes have a vague idea where they probably are, but attacking the right flickering image means the usual anti-Concealment roll. Then he moves toward the vault, though he doesn't leave cover until next turn. EDIT: Thoughtspeed, with his Accurate Mental sense, can of course get around this. Black Salamander goes next. He makes with a mass of smoke that fills the air around BabyBrawler, creating a suffocating...Suffocation Effect. DC20 Fortitude save to resist losing 1 Attack, Defense and Reflex saves. It'll also hamper movement(only a Move or Standard Action per round). He then retreats closer to the two Reds. BabyBrawler is up!

GM Amelyth "What, you're like the Scarab? Messing with the astral plane and stuff?" Ted frowned, eying the draconically-themed psychic with renewed unease. From the way he kept glancing away at the other people passing by, the skyscrapers rearing above, and the cars rumbling past in an unending stream it was clear that he wasn't too sure one way or the other. "Pretty sure it isn't depression. I thought that too at first. Took some pills the doc suggested...didn't do a thing." Suddenly he jumped to his feet "Ah, screw it! I'll take you up on it. Worst that can happen is you fail and I have a bad day with my brother. Again. I'm almost used to it anyway." Clapping his hands vigorously together, the Freedonian glanced quizzically at the junior psionicist "Soooo...how's this work? Should I be asleep for this, or what?"
