GM The joke fell even flatter than she'd expected. Hanks barely even blinked, King looked annoyed, but Castle's lips twitched noticeably. "I see...so, your world sees itself as the centre of creation? A natural assumption. Tell me about you." he gestured at her costume "You can emit light, something no mega on this world can do, and your uniform looks like the national flag used by Great Britain, can you explain that to us? Do countries on this 'Prime' have naturally-ocurring megas, or are you a government creation?" "Please keep in mind, we have had no contact with other worlds, what seems obvious to you may be wholly opaque to outsiders." He fixed her with his clear eyes "Please, omit no detail. We might be able to help each other."

GM Skin blistered and momentarily stunned by the wave of sickly heat, Miss Grue was sent reeling back against the wall, making a sizable dent and only escaping worse damage thanks to the super-tough construction. Stepping back from and looking contemptuously at his former captor, Gamma gave a short bark of triumphant laughter, radiation swirling in his hand and casting an eerie blue glow across the daylit floor. "The same every time. You're tough and strong, but never enough. Maximus learned that again and again. From me, the Meta-Grue, from that monster from the Moon...he'd be dead if it wasn't for that 'family' of human cowards and idiots, and you're not so lucky!" Raising his arm to fire again, Gamma's eyes, burning violently, suddenly widened as he felt something trying to tear into his nerves, seizing on his very blood. Whirling around he saw Red Moon standing in the air behind him, surrounded by a hazy red corona, her blue eyes gleaming in the depths of her helmet "That is why such as you fail, you have none at your back!" Gritting his teeth, the atomic atlas shut his eyes, body flaring and seething with radioactive energy, the world breaking down at the molecules as he fought against the telekinetic assault...and with a growl broke free! Darting back in shock, Red Moon flickered out of sight as she rasped "But...how? How do you fight off my power so easily?!" "I'm a superior being," Gamma shot back, snorting in disgust and picking up the toppled Nucleic Reorganizer, tucking it under one arm and glancing again at his foes "and in just a little while, everyone will be like me. See you in the future, aliens!" he added, launching into the air through the shattered skylight with a whoosh and flurry of dust, racing off at tremendous speed, feet smashing into roofs, and soon disappearing in the maze of Freedom City. "...Well, I suppose we must go after him." Floating over to Miss Grue, the changed Farsider offered her a tentative hand "I am Red Moon. Who are you?" she demanded, trying to keep as far as possible from Daphne without being obviously rude, her skinny arm extended as far as possible from her body, fingers tight together.

"That's the truth, my friend," agreed the younger man, bright blue eyes darting about the room "every time Aloysius and I introduced ourselves as defenders of the weak in some small, forgotten town, something horrible happened." Dodging around a small gaggle of girls in black lace, he paused for a second, considering the air in front of him "Perhaps we shouldn't have said such things to to the biggest bastard we could find. Or, at least, not to their face." Marceau shrugged, life was full of regrets and might-have-beens. Even one as rich and ardent as his. "As to the matter of your eerie feeling...I feel it too." The incognito King of Suits frowned a little "I envy your second-sight and understanding of what we face, de Saens, I'd give much for it. Right now we seem to have blundered into the bear's den, and the only thing worse than a bear(and I never thought I would say that) is one you cannot see." Rubbing his face a little, the crimefighter silently steeled himself for whatever was to come. "If, for the sake of discussion, you were a superhuman spirit with a drive for vengeance, how would you strike at possible meddlers in the midst of a crowded convention?"

The shooter is just spraying shots at the crowd, none aimed at Velocity. There are 15 people around the tree, all of whom at least at risk of getting hit by the bullets.

GM The street had been fairly quiet when Velocity arrived, with only a few passing cars(that slowed down noticeably when they passed the mini-park) driving sedately along. Practically the moment Megan began gently dislodging the shivering, wide-eyed bundle of fur, however, the roar of an engine started. An eyeblink later a black car swung around the corner, one of the rear windows opening to let out a cold gray tube. For a second, Velocity could have sworn she saw eyes flashing inside, looking down the barrel... The roar of gunfire echoed up and down the street. The shooter, invisible in the dark interior, swiveling the rifle back and forth at the helpless crowd! It was a massacre. Well, it would be, if America's Favorite Speedster didn't put a stop to it! The bullets soaring for the crowd were easy to track, but getting everyone out of the way was still easier said than done.

GM With a satisfying twinkle, the small airlock door slid open, admitting Cavalier into the ship. The airlock itself was the picture of smooth comfort. A bit on the cramped side at first, but subtly enlarging to fit the Star Knight as he passed from the outer hull into the ship's living quarters. Even from the first Kyle had felt the faint rumble in the floor that meant an argument, and as he slipped into the elegantly-contoured silver hall it blasted onto his ears in full force. "That is a dwarf planet, Core-A! Do you doubt my stellar wisdom?!" ~"Negative, Prince Zanvir, I merely doubt your ability to see"~ "Grr!" ~"*roar*"~ Hardly six feet from Cavalier was a dashingly-handsome man, the spitting image of the criminal he'd just been briefed on, green face twisted with rage and moustache quivering with indignation at a stocky purple robot who looked back with a flat yellow slit and crossed arms. From around the corner of two other corridors branching off deeper into the ship, the faces of the rest of Zanvir's crew could be seen, all of them quietly enjoying the debate. A nearby viewscreen showed the object of the quarrel: a smooth, very complete-looking depiction of a green-blue orb. Next to it was a simple two-word query: "Warp To?" Considering the circumstances, Kyle almost missing his footing on the slick(for all the friction-fields in place) metal floor was perfectly forgivable. And his quick recovery meant only a vague look flashed by him from the arguing pair. The ship was small enough that the instrument panel-ridden bridge wasn't far from the airlock, and clearly visible even from where he was standing with its sleek and atrociously expensive-looking seats. Obviously, the Celestia hadn't been built with repelling assaults in mind.

Player Name: Arichamus Character Name: Mind-Set Power Level: 10 (150/150PP) Trade-Offs: -2 Defence / +2 Toughness Unspent Power Points: 0 Progress To Bronze Status: 0/30 In Brief: Gentler half of an artificial-human duo created by the Foundry to experiment with psionic powers, Created with the power to control the mind and senses. Alternate Identity: Nathan(iel) Colletta Identity: Secret Birthplace: Foundry lab Occupation: Superhero, nurse Affiliations: Providence Asylum, Freedom City University, The Foundry Family: Rachel Colletta (sister) Description: Age: 25 (Date of birth: Apparent Age: Mid-twenties Gender: Male Ethnicity: Italian/Cyborg, Caucasian(as Mind-Set) Height: 6' 5"/6' 8"(as Mind-Set) Weight: 210 lbs Eyes: Brown/Blue(as Mind-Set) Hair: Black Description: Big and tall is the simplest way to describe Nathaniel, he's brawny and well-toned with broad shoulders and powerful arms and legs, his skin darkly tanned. The thick black hair on his proportionally-appropriate head is wavy, cut short and always impeccably combed above bushy eyebrows and earnest brown eyes. His features are classically handsome, though not more so than many, and usually set in a warm, encouraging smile. Off-duty he wears button-up shirts(preferably blue) and khaki pants with sturdy shoes, while on the job at the asylum he fills out the standard-issue crisp white uniform. As Mind-Set he conceals his identity behind both a simple green mask and the illusion of a paler and(even more) square-jawed champion of justice, dressed in a vibrant blue, rich orange and glistening black costume marked with a sunset on the chest. In that disguise his eyes blaze blue and his voice deepens in timbre. A medical scan of either twin will reveal a web of electronics and circuits digging into their brain. They are aware of it, but believe that it exists to boost their powers. In truth their memories and personalities are housed in the electronics, not in their grey matter. Power Descriptions: Nathan is telepathic, and his powers have governance over the mind and what it perceives. Mind-Set's powers, besides his ability to form very persuasive sensory simulacrums(Illusion), are remarkably difficult to detect given their wide-ranging effect. When standing at just the right angle, it's possible to make out the passage of some invisible force when he's trying to overthrow another's reason(Mental Blast, Emotion Control) or a flicker of electric blue light in the depths of his eyes and someone whose will he's trying to override(Mind-Control). When hiding himself and others from the senses(Concealment), their bodies appear to disappear in a circular wave from the torso outward. To those with the right detection abilities, Mind-Set's powers give off a flare of cold blue light around himself and his target or targets, or a harsh electronic crackle. History: Talos, the ingenious Man of Bronze and molder of the Foundry, has been hard at work making artificial beings like himself for decades. For obvious reasons, most of them were metal minds in metal bodies, as he struggled to create someone really like himself, a true peer. However, he's always been interested in replicating the bizarre powers displayed by organic superhumans, exemplified by his wayward 'son' Argo, the Ultimate Android, and like his business partner Overshadow has a vested interest in that elusive yet tempting source of power: psionics. That such a thing as a psychic robot had never been seen before was taken by Talos as an implicit challenge by the universe. Working from the understanding that since organic brains are similar to electronic ones on a base level(interpreting and reacting to exterior stimuli by electric impulses) and that psychics must be somehow exploiting that, Talos studied and experimented for years on those unfortunate enough to both have such abilities and fall into his bronze clutches. To his disgust, he found that the best results were got from organic 'carriers', their brain-wave patterns somehow amplifying the powers he managed to replicate. Making lemonade from lemons being one of his few positive sides, Talos honed and refined his process until he had two prime subjects, both indistinguishable from normal humans save for the small pieces of circuitry and electronics in their brains: where he gave them their powers, their personalities, and their first spark of life. One could wreak havoc on everything outside the mind, the other on everything within it. Given that and his agents Keres and(nominally)Blackfire, it's likely they would have been intended as sleeper agents, but Talos' plans were thrown into disarray when his alliance with the Curator led to the destruction of the secret lab the twins(given the names Nathan and Rachel Colletta) were being tested and grown in, and the pair were evacuated with all speed as the facility exploded and crumbled around them. They escaped death or capture(or rescue), but not without damage, including damage to the mental programming that would have compelled them to search out some other Foundry base. They had enough training to get by in the world, however, and after making their grueling way to civilization, set about the work of their new lives. Talos had already set up a plausible family history for the pair to draw from, and the rest fell out as could be expected, including the "discovery" of their powers and slow migration to Freedom City, super-city of opportunity. Nathan soon developed a fascination with the workings of the human mind, its relationship with the brain and the mysteries therein, seizing an opportunity to study it as a nurse at the Providence Asylum(which after taking on 'superhuman' patients has also significantly increased its wages and health insurance policy) alongside his courses at FCU. These days Mind-Set spends them like many working university students; he splits his time rigorously between work, ease and school life, keeps up a wide ring of friends on and off campus, and heads off on superheroic excursions with sister Maelstrom when the need arises. It's a good life, busy, and with more doors opening up before the Colletta twins all the time. Whatever new plans Talos might have for his oddest pawns, if indeed they aren't already unconsciously playing one out, remains to be seen. Personality & Motivation: A towering and sturdy rock to his sister's raging sea, Nathan(iel, as he insists on adding to it) has grown up into the role of peacekeeper and mediator. He embraces that due to both a history of calming down situations his sister got involved in(the ones she didn't end), and a fascination with how and why people think and do what they do. His powers give him a window on that, but he prefers a more academic method(and fears coming to rely on his powers to get what he wants), and hopes in his heart of hearts to find a way to 'cure' the problems afflicting those suffering mental illnesses and imbalances. Preferably without superpowers. Nathan's work with the mentally ill is something he values deeply, as the young man views many of the world's villains as very like his patients, people in need of care, understanding and treatment over punishment. This hasn't diminished his power to recognize real, conscious evil, but it has made him more sympathetic to the plight of those in real need of help. In person he's laid-back and confident, preferring to be the supporter of a group over being a leader, years of playing second-fiddle making it a natural and comfortable fit for him. Powers & Tactics: A diehard support specialist, Mind-Set tends to keep on the sidelines and coordinate with his sister over their telepathic link(between their chips), providing illusory screens and manipulating the emotions of their enemies to keep the bad guys in disarray. If at all possible, he remains undetectable for as long as possible and keeps nearby allies also hidden, unleashing his savage assault on others' psyches only as a last resort. His power to dominate people's minds is something he uses very sparingly, mostly if he's fighting someone on his own and they prove immune to his appeals to reason or if he's in a group fighting someone vastly stronger than them. Complications: Actually Artificial Nathan's mind and personality is housed in a computer distributed throughout his brain. This leaves him open to powers that normally only affect computers, like Datalink or an EMP attack. "And now for that mask!": Mind-Set doesn't wear much of a disguise, and if his illusion is penetrated there isn't much to protect his identity. Brainwashed and Crazy: Talos doesn't believe anymore in tools that can't be controlled. Not to mention the danger if somebody else figured out how to 'access' either twin. False History The Collettas' history is elaborate, but ultimately fake. Enough digging will reveal this. "I'm real, damn it!": Nathan puts an irrational emphasis on his being a 'real' person, and will go to considerable lengths to prove it to himself or others. Overdrawn at the Brainpower Bank: The mental discipline needed to use his psychic abilities can mean havoc if it's broken or strained, such as if he fails a crucial Concentration check or overtaxes himself using Extra Effort. Responsibility: His sister's well-being, his patients at Providence, his studies, his friends, his need to conceal his true name from criminals. Secret: Identity. Secret: He's a psionic organic robot made by a genocidal metal robot. [if that comes out, it leads to a Prejudice Complication.] Secret Past: 'Nathan' isn't human, not strictly; he and Rachel were both created by the Foundry, even if they don't remember it. That was a lie?: Nathan genuinely wants to trust and bring out the best in people, which despite his powers makes him just that much more vulnerable to deception than his more cynical sister. Whoops! Zhat vas not medicine!: As a nurse at Providence Asylum, Nathan is often unknowingly vulnerable to the likes of the Maestro or Fear-Master, something that could make already complicated situations a lot more so. GM At first, things went swimmingly. Not a prop went awry, not a wire twitched more than she wanted it to, and the talents honed from a life devoted to persuading people of the impossible stood her in good stead. Even those in the audience who saw gods walk the earth, children wield forbidden power in battles across the sky, and felt the touch of the Scarab's ka held their breath at the sight of someone vanishing before their eyes, of flight without the faint thrum of superhuman power. Lara was preparing for the water-tank escape, trussed securely to a slowly descending pole, when it happened. A soft, almost unnoticeable in the din *whump*. There was a second of worry before the ensuring silence calmed their fears, and all eyes were once again glued to the young magician, a murmur running through the crowd as she slid into the(actually nicely warm) cylinder of glass and steel, the lid clamping over her with a resounding clang that echoed like the stroke of doom! Through the curved plates, Lara saw several of the audience grow pale. "Ladies and gentlemen!" announced Lara's lovely assistant as he walked to the edge of the stage, gesturing grandly to the tank "within the next five minutes, the Inestimable Lara Drake will have freed herself from her prison!" Drawing out a watch large enough to be seen from the back of the hall, he began the slow countdown, the lights increasing ever so little on him as they dimmed just a touch on the tank. "Starting, now-" A sharp *CRACK* split the air, and one stage light smashed onto the platform! Stunned, the assistant and the stagehands froze in bewilderment, even as the armed men came charging into the auditorium! One leapt onto the stage, grabbing the hapless young man in a headlock and putting a pistol to his skull, looking out at the crowd behind a balaclava mask as similarly masked men, all in camouflage gear and carrying small carbines, surrounded some of the wealthiest citizens of Freedom. "You've eaten well," he said, and his deep, slow voice rolled through the air like thunder, even clear through Lara's glass and water prison "you eat of the world's riches, its fields, its people. But now the time has come, when the feast ends." He clicked the safety off the pistol "Comply, and you just might see the dawn. But let me be clear: from this moment on, none of you are safe!"

A week after Easter, 2014, in an alley somewhere in the western Fens... "It's over." 'Another day of this, lungs burning, legs shaking...I'm in great shape, but it's never enough. And this,' he risked a moment's glance away from the desperate-eyed young man in the baggy clothes holding a gun to the alley around them 'must be the fifth time this month I've chased someone here. Or maybe it isn't, perhaps I am merely losing my mind after years of this with nothing to show for it.' "This will solve nothing, you know." Turning back to his quarry, the King of Suits kept his eyes on the general outline of...Carl? It was probably Carl. The important thing was not to let him fire without knowing where that bullet was headed. "Where will you be in a month? Can you even go that long, Carl, before something happens? And then what about Sherrie? What about your son? Is this what they need?" Nobody who fought crime for a hobby stayed careless around guns, unless they really didn't need to. In the wrong hands they were modern talismans of destruction and fear, and even in the hands of the just they could wreak horrors. Taking a deep breath, the King of Suits began to approach the man. Very slowly. "Carl, listen to me. This can not go on. The people who have you trafficking, will they just let you stay like this? They will want you deeper and deeper in their debt. They want to have power over you, but I can help you escape them. It is my duty to protect everyone in this city, Carl, I am not your enemy. Now," he smiled a little "could you put the gun away? Please?"

Okay, since Cavalier's interested in a boarding action, there's a few ways to go about it. First, just sending a pulse of energy into the thing using the Blast. It probably won't do much damage, but it will make the crew inclined to investigate. Second, a Knowledge(Technology) and/or Galactic Lore roll, minimum DC for each being 15, to know how to send a signal directly to the ship's navcom that will make it just stop. Third, trying to shoot out one of the Celestia's engines or blowing a hole in the hull. It's got a really good force-field to keep the atmosphere in and keep anything being blown into space. Fourth, interact with the Blue Star. Fifth...I dunno, some crazy trick Kyle picked up in the Cloud?

GM May 1st, 7.45 P.M., 2014, May Day Freedom-class cruise liner 'Supernal', just outside the mouth of the Great Bay, North Atlantic, auditorium... The magician clicked his black suitcase shut, looking gravely at the distant sea of faces beyond the inferno coming from the floodlights. "Really, ladies and gentlemen? Despite my best efforts, are you still not sated? Do you need more? Do you need...her?" An answering roar of "Yes!"s resounded from the packed seats, the audience thrumming with excitement. "Very well, my honored hosts! Then it is my inestimable pleasure to present the one you've all been waiting for! The one, the only..." Wiping his forehead in a motion disguised by a flourish of his resplendent top hat, mentally cursing the blazing stage lights once more, Jethro de Seine, master magician, gestured to the red curtains with his white-topped black cane. On cue, the floodlights zeroed in on the thin line between the massive sheets of cloth. "The magnificent, the elusive...Lara Drake!"

GM The cement rang along with the steel, its cause jerking back and forth for a moment as it adjusted to whatever had snapped in the neck. With a hideously fluid movement it wheeled around and faced Nevermore with dead eyes, jaws opening to once again reveal the crackling inferno, but this time it wasn't just in unrobotic cockiness. With a faint screech from overtaxed motors and a blast of heat, the coursing electricity roared from its metal lips, forming a single thin tongue of blue fire that snapped out towards the young crime-fighter...only for him to dodge at the last moment, causing it to hit the wall behind him and leave a smelly scorch-mark. "Formidable." Commented one of the Dragons, to a general murmur of placid agreement. The gangsters had barely moved after the duel started, watching with the idle curiosity of an audience at a sporting match.

King Cole II doesn't need to really show up in person to menace folks, he's mostly a background Mob Boss kind of supervillain, like the Kingpin but without the implausible physique and more weird folk-tale themed gadgets. Blackbird II is even easier, an evil Raven knockoff. And that sounds very awesome and tricky SC. I am down with that.
-
Raveled, that's a splendid idea. It could even fit with the 'Midnighter-lite' thing: they stuck a little computer in her brain to mimic that uncanny ability of Sloane's to just know what to do next. That could be very cool! In that case the powers would most likely have the Uncontrollable Flaw, maybe acting more like a GM-controlled Spider Sense than visions until she learns to harness them for the fight against evil. Augustus Roman's(well, most likely Saturnalia Roman's these days) Circus Maximus is a pretty suitable place for a super-good fighter to hail from. That and it readily explains why the character is so cool with battling more obvious superhumans. One problem you'll need to figure on is just how much the Circus put into them, and how much they'll want to have them back. If it's a talent as esoteric and delicate as the power to foresee, it could have meant a pretty hefty price. (Also, I'm a little unsure about the mention of Daedalus there. He's a really smart guy, but not a dedicated fighter after all.) (The language thing in Hero Factory is pretty easy to get used to, you just learn to associate the words with what they do to the doll rather than what the words mean in themselves. I had to learn to do that since I also lack artistic skills >.>) Sounding good so far KaraSummers. What else have you settled on for them?
-
Hey SC, if you're not fully loaded up I've a request to get into this kicking. Basic idea is that while handling a fairly routine bit of superheroics, talking down a nervous gunman, King of Suits gets shot. Said shot is incredibly lucky, as it pierces his armor and gives him an injury that while not immediately life-threatening will kill him eventually if he doesn't get it treated. And right about then, the second King Cole and second Blackbird start simultaneous havoc in the Fens, the malevolent monarch aiming to increase his territory in the wake of a general slip in the balance of mob power, and the masked muddle-head busting a pack of low-rent thugs with his customary over-brutality and property damage. While staving off exhaustion and blood loss, his weaponry failing at the worst possible times, and needing to keep his identity hidden on top of it all, Kingy has to deal with both of them.
-
How do you want them to follow Foreshadow? There's a few ways Legacy Heroes are most commonly done. 1) They're the same character archetype, possibly with a similar motive for turning to superheroics, or similar powers. Like the Superfamily, or the Flash Family, or Wonder Woman & Wonder Girl, or the Batmans. 2) They look up to the originator, or were inspired/empowered by them in some way. Like Ted Knight/Starman was inspired by his father and brother's heroics, or Carol Danvers/Captain/Ms. Marvel, given powers by her predecessor Mar-Vell. 3) Related to the first, and linked to the second, maybe rather than a similar origin, it's a similar theme: in this case, David Sloane failed to avert a disaster he foresaw, and dedicated himself to never let that happen again. Likewise, yours could have had a similar experience(had the knowledge to do something but didn't act, tragedy befell) and took after the mysterious vigilante Foreshadow. Or maybe after resolving to their new life, they went and trained under a similar teacher but took the lessons in way Sloane didn't, ending up with a familiar skill-set, but a very different world-view and style. 4) The ever-popular Fan from the Future! The heroic legend lives on decades, even centuries after its instigator dies, and it sparks a flame of gallantry in some denizen of that distant era who finds a way to meet their idol in person. Usually they come to the past by accident, but if they're from a time or place where the technology is even uncommon, it could very well be intentional. 5) An attempt to mimic a hero for some unsavory end goes awry. Perhaps the Labyrinth, the Foundry(in which case AA's would be a good start), SHADOW or some monster, mystic or madman attempted to make somebody with all of Foreshadow's power, skill and knowledge, but twisted to their service instead of justice. Obviously said would-be minion rebels(they forgot about that pesky Good Guy gene) and joins the side of righteousness. Or perhaps they tried to instill said powers and talents into someone full-grown, failing thanks to their stronger ego and/or similar life making them harder to make an obedient drone. 6) They're an alternate-universe counterpart, from some world where Foreshadow or his life are different in a crucial way, whether it's Foreshadow being born Deborah Sloane, having failed to avert tyrannical alien rule or becoming a wizard as part of his Batman-esque world training tour.

GM One of the biggest problems of policing the galaxy was a very simple one: finding the criminal. The infinite vastness of space, the sweeping plains and tunnels of planets and asteroids, the blazing stars and devouring singularities, they presented a maddening amount of places to hide. Luckily, this time it was narrowed down to a relatively thin band of space in one solar system. Which was, admittedly, still pretty big. So it was that just seconds after the mighty armor of Cavalier had reordered itself, his helmet tingling with power that let him see by the drifting fire of suns, a field cracking about him that shielded the Star Knight from unwelcome eyes, that he saw the massive flaming blue gem hurtling towards him, attached Mentor-only-knew how to the top of a sleek, silvery craft racing straight for him!

That definitely does catch something! Like a ship something. GM post upcoming. Alright, so he's seen it before it's too close to non-frantically evade, and the crew is unaware of Cavalier's presence.
