"I..." Adam stumbled, slightly. "I love you too." He understood, perhaps for the first time, where their gifts diverged. He could withstand bullets, ignore fire, and tear concrete like it was cardboard. Lulu's power was different. Her subtlety, her quietness, her friendliness all belied a strength different from, yet no less profound than his own. He meant what he said, too. Some part of his mind recognized that, perhaps, the two of them were simply two kids in over their heads, but at the moment it felt entirely real. She was a better person than her history had given her a chance to be. He wanted to keep her safe, wanted to protect her, and wanted to understand her. He no longer felt ashamed of what he looked like, not around Lulu.

"I'm not drinking, regardless." Adam said. "Food, though. You know me, I can always eat. Almost literally. I really hope I've stopped growing. I don't wanna have to special order everything." He looked down and smiled at Lulu. He was gobsmacked that she was into him, and he was just fine with that. "As for what to eat, how about something we can't really get at home? Something fun and exotic? That's what my vote is."

"This is concerning." Adam said in a massive understatement. He looked over at Lulu, then the rest. "If Lulu can't sense anyone in it, either they're not there, or they're beyond her reach." He scratched his chin. "It's entirely possible that Judy and Danica simply aren't currently in our universe. I'm not sure what this is about, but if it's a doorway of some sort, it might not be a one way door. Can Danica just enter her shell like this? If she can, I imagine she can get back out, but..."

Adam was almost overwhelmed by the whole thing, but he kept a level head. His parents were excited for him, and promised that they'd keep tabs on him. More or less, at least. They respected his privacy, but there were dangerous people out there. So he spent his time cuddled up with Lulu and enjoying the ride. He was wearing a pair of jeans and a long-sleeved shirt. He hated stares. Luckily they were very light, airy cloth, so he wasn't quite as overheated as he looked. It was either the scarring, or unusual clothes. Not that he was focused on any of that with the pretty redhead by his side. Lulu made a lot of things that much easier.

Adam had been reading. A lot. One thing he had to be careful of was not to bury his head in books too much. Especially considering he had Lulu around. There was plenty of time for books, girls were different. Especially Lulu. So when he walked past the room and saw his girlfriend, Micah and Ashley standing around a turtle shell, he stopped short, then blinked. "That's a mighty big turtle shell. What happened?"

From Sunday, May 26th to Sunday June 2nd, I'll be on vacation. I'll try to post, but it will be spotty. Thanks.

"Hm, the Eel." Lars said. "Don't worry about me." He said to Caroline. "I'm like you, what they might call a 'hero'." He said the last part with a sort of resignation, as if the label technically applied to him, but he didn't feel worthy of it. "I'm amnesiac as well. I remember enough of my history, but there are certain parts that are lost to me. Though, unlike you, I have a good idea why." "I know of a few places you could go, but I'd stay low for the time being. Bedlam is not the best place to be on the best of days. I wouldn't suggest trying to make friends. Do yourself a favor and don't tell anyone else about your amnesia. There are people around here that are always looking for a mark."

John gently helped her to her feet and walked with her for a while. At least until they were out of sight, at which point he gently scooped her up, jumped on top of a nearby building and set her down. He was very concerned, and confused, about this new person. She was pretty, and nothing about her made any sense whatsoever. He hoped to get answers. "Do you still want to go to a clinic, or do you wanna talk about what's going on? Who are you?"
-
"Bedlam City Wisconsin. United States." He added after hearing her accent. "We found you in the water. We should probably get you to a clinic, get you checked out." John suspected that this woman did not, in fact, need to be seen by anyone, nor would she want to. However, he tried his best to communicate that they should get out of there, quickly. He already had a plan for getting her unstuck from these people. It was the same plan he often had. Walk her out of the area, then take to the rooftops until they were well out of sight of anyone before sitting her down to talk.
-
"You didn't fish out a corpse, you found a living woman." John remarked, gently lifting her up. "I ought to get her to shore, let's make sure she's okay. I know a good clinic." He said, looking around. He didn't say what he was thinking. This woman had been in the water too long to have fallen in recently. She was not drowned because she was surviving underwater longer than any ordinary person could.

Adam followed her instructions to the best of his ability. He had obviously never done this before, either. He was letting her into his mind. He knew that she had glimpsed into minds far worse than his. He knew there was a chance he couldn't trust her, but his curiosity overrode his concerns. Telepathic contact was fascinating, he reasoned. Definitely interesting.

Lars was finishing up a night shift when he heard the shout. A large, burly bearded man who went down to the docks and sold his services doing grunt work. Lars only showed up at the docks every once in a while, apparently doing work elsewhere. The truth was, of course that Lars didn't exist. 'Lars' had been killed in a bar brawl thirty years prior, and John was wearing his appearance. "Lemme help get it out." He said. Maybe he could sense how the corpse died and investigate the matter later.
-
John remembers what it was like to wake up confused and not dead. I imagine he'd help her out. Plus, he could easily be down by the dock working under the table. Probably after a shift
-
No, but John's been rolling with the punches on all this superhero stuff lately. Frankly, Jette would come across as relatively normal.
-
Tattered Man is also a semi-amnesiac homeless PC, so if he met her he'd probably try to help
-
John's powers are explicitly connected to ghosts, and his ability to sense the psychic resonance of a given area could come in handy with any shenanigans.
-
I'm definitely interested in getting the Tattered Man in on this. Just need a name.

Mali smiled. "Thanks, Kimber. I got it, you guys just enjoy yourselves. I already have bowls stacked up. Oh, um, well if someone wants to gather some drinks, I just realized I forgot. Abigail, nice to meet you! Don't worry about meat. I know plenty of Buddhists who are vegetarians, and vegans. I'm not, but I've learned to cook both ways. No cooked meat here, I promise. You like Tofu?" She started cooking. "I'll have three bowls of pad thai. Hot, medium and mild. Pick whichever you'd prefer. Now if you're not sure, feel free to sample until you pick the heat level you like. I like it hot myself." She loved cooking. Almost as much as she liked training.
-
Adam put his head down for a moment and took a deep breath. "Are you going to be upset at the idle thoughts of a teenage boy? I'm different, yes, but not entirely so. I think some of the same things other boys do, including about girls. I'm pretty sure you've picked up on some of it around the school, but I don't want you to think that I'm some chaste paragon. I'm still, well, typical in some areas." He was blushing, and trying to be circumspect, but at this point it was impossible. If he could see how he pictured her sometimes, and even some of their classmates, well, she might not want what she was asking. His parents had told him that such idle thoughts were more or less normal, and as long as he didn't try to act on them it was okay. However, he didn't want to scare Lulu away. "Other than that, it sounds fascinating, frankly. I've never experienced anything like that, and I'm curious what I could pick up from you and how it would feel." He didn't want to admit that he was afraid of what she would think of him, and how different their thoughts of each other might be.
-
"I suppose." Adam coughed, slightly embarrassed, but happy. "Sincerity can be a relief when deception is the norm." He poked at his food. "People do indeed lie, a lot. That doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Isn't that part of the point of superheroes? The world isn't perfect, we try to make it better. I suppose that's why I've decided I'm here." "This is pretty good. I've had better Chinese, but this soothes my craving."
-
"A few people, at least, not sure exactly who. I love plenty of peanuts in my pad thai, so don't worry about that." Mali smiled at the cupcakes. "Oooh, cupcakes." She mentally ticked Jessie at 'moderate spice' and kept working. "It's nice to get people together for a thing, you know? Get friends together, eat food, the usual." She started to assemble her spices and gather pans. Three pans, she figured. Extra mild, medium, and hot. That would work well.
-
"My family is more typical, I think that was on purpose. My parents are both doctors, and I think they said I have something called advanced neuroplasticity. It means my brain picks up information like I'm still a baby. That's why you've seen me read advanced text books. It's weird that I had to come to a school for kids with superpowers to feel normal." Adam sighed and looked down at his Chinese. "Thank you. I know, I know, teenage boys are supposed to be insincere, but you've been amazing and I was never taught how to fake things." He smiled shyly and went back to poking at his food with his chopsticks. "I really need to improve my manual dexterity. My hands are not likely to stop growing for a while." He mumbled to himself.
-
Mali smiled and took the headphones out of her ears. "Oo that sounds interesting, Aquaria. Think I'll try it. Don't worry, Daphne. I got this. I like to cook. Hey Jessie, do you like spicy food? I'm making batches with different levels of spice, so just let me know what you'd like. Say, one to ten where one has no spice at all, and ten is as hot as I can take it." She switched to a different vegetable, and continued to cut. "Cooking is how I unwind." She grinned and shrugged even as her hands worked. "Pad thai scales really well, too. Once you have enough ingredients, it's just a matter of making more." She had been doing more training than usual lately, too. Her young protege was learning quickly, and she was working out a training regiment for him. That, and her work on her clinic was going well. She needed this chance to relax.
-
Mali loved the castle kitchen. It was big enough to move around in, had all the pans she might need, and a commercial grade dishwasher. True, she had to go perusing various Asian markets to get the supplies she liked, but that was fine. Nobody minded if she added a little spice to the pantries. Her mis en place was already in place. Pans, pots, spices, herbs and knives worthy of a chef. So there she was, rocking to the music in her headphones while her knife slid effortlessly through the vegetables. She was wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt with a rock band logo on it, swaying to the beat. Tofu pad thai, with varying levels of heat. She herself could handle a lot, others not so much. She had bowls set aside and the best rice noodles she could find. She mused, more than once, that if she hadn't been a superhero, she likely would have been a chef. Not that she was as good as a chef, just that she had the passion and drive to become one. She sure hoped people liked dinner, she was told they'd have guests.
