  1. Hannah sighed, relieved. Nobody was going to brawl in a museum and cause people to get suspended. It was strange, but she felt better staying with these girls over them. Maybe they were rough, and uncouth, and a little vulgar, but that didn't bother her. She had a feeling that neither Raina nor Robin would pretend to like her, or try to manipulate her. She turned to Cathy and smiled. "They don't look like they'll stick around anywhere. I'm sure we'll be able to swing by the Norse exhibits before we go." She turned to the other girls. "If you want to finish the assignment first, I think we can manage that." She was also relieved that the other girls wouldn't necessarily be leaving her stuck with the assignment. For the moment, at least, it looked like they wouldn't mind if she stuck around.
  2. Hannah had never been popular, and she resented the things the other girls were saying. What Raina said had been harsh, but she hadn't been the one to start it. Hannah had not expected to be called out, not specifically. She straightened herself as best she could, and gave a half-hearted shrug. "I don't think they'd pick anyone to go to that school who didn't deserve it." She said quietly, with as much firmness as she could muster. "Why would you waste time on someone if they weren't worth the shot? Everyone deserves a chance to succeed." She meant it, too. Some of these girls weren't the nicest, but good people aren't always nice, and nice people aren't always good. She'd seen enough artificial niceness in high school to figure that one out.
  3. Hannah was pretty excited about the idea of a museum. She'd been to the museums in Chicago before and thoroughly enjoyed herself. Freedom City probably had all sorts of interesting and cool things in it. She'd been left holding the proverbial bag on assignments like this before, where group assignments had turned into solo assignments because none of the people who were supposed to work with her would pay the assignment any mind. She hoped none of her classmates at Claremont would pull that on her. "I think looking at the Norse stuff sounds great." She said. "I love museums."

  5. Even more new people showed up, and she was nervous. Another blonde, seemed somewhat confrontational. A very cute guy, seemed pretty confident and at ease. She considered what she did next, mostly because she was so nervous, but she realized the sooner she did it, the better it would be for her. Best dive in. She swallowed nervously. "My name is Hannah, and I'm from Illinois." She closed her eyes and brought her hands up to chest height about half a foot apart. She sighed. "This is what I do." A sphere of shifting colors materialized between her hands, it looked for all the world like a soap bubble, transparent with shifting colors on the surface. She pulled her hands slightly further apart and the shape changed, shifting to a cube before extruding out into a rhomboid, before extracting further, stretching and changing, then it faded and vanished.
  6. Hannah listened to Sakurako's explanation and nodded, it was interesting, electronic relay balloons. Maybe later she could ask her about it. As she listened. She noticed, then, Cathy's behavior. Hannah knew nerves and shyness from personal experience. The accent told her that Cathy was definitely not from Freedom City either. Sounded distinctly Scottish, which was interesting. She looked over at Cathy, smiled a bit and shrugged. She wanted to let the girl know that it was okay, she was nervous too.
  7. Flying blondes, balloons...this school was strange. Yet, Hannah felt a bit more at ease. She inched towards the gathering crowd of students and removed her earbuds. She nodded along, listening to what was being said. It was an old defense mechanism, blend in, look normal. Though, she thought, pink hair, flying blondes...what even was normal here?
  8. Hannah had made the bold and unusual choice of walking through the school's doors officially on her own. Her parents had dropped her off a short distance away. She wanted to be subtle and quiet, watch the crowd, keep out of sight and out of trouble. She wore an old gray hoodie and a pair of plain blue jeans. Her head was down, her hands were in her pockets, and she had her earbuds in. They weren't playing any music, she was just hoping to stay out of notice. She fought the urge to go inside, instead just sort of meandering away and hoping to take advantage of her small stature to evade unwanted notice. She would have liked to make friends, but didn't trust her ability to, not in such an alien environment. Better to watch things first.
  9. It was a simple glowing cube, shifting through the rainbow like a square soap bubble. Her sister and brother just stared, and the cube shifted slightly, turning in the air. She extruded the centers and shifted the shape a bit, changing it from a cube to a rhomboid, then collapsed it into a sphere. Then, she let it go, and it faded from view. "Wow, that...you can do that?" Jake said. "That was beautiful." Hannah just blushed. Her mom looked less impressed, and her dad concerned. She knew her mom would rather the whole powers thing had never happened. She was supporting her decision, but not happy about it. Her dad was more in favor of Claremont, because he wanted to make sure Hannah's powers weren't dangerous. Her dad put the pizza down on the dining room table just as Ashley, Pete and Sammy came downstairs. They all settled in and digged in. The next morning she would be off to Freedom City, to see it, and to live there for most of the year.
  10. Her father stepped in with two steaming boxes of fresh pizza, and two figures stepped in behind him. "I had to grab extra pizza, having guests for dinner." He said nonchalantly as Hannah's sister Laura and brother Jake stepped in behind him. "Laura, Jake!" She shouted as she ran towards them, hugging her oldest brother fiercely and then her sister. "I thought you had practice, and I know your classes have already started." Jake snatched her up effortlessly like he did when they were younger and hugged her tight. "I only have today, baby sis, but I wanted to be here." "I had to skip a class." Laura shrugged. "Professor's not mad, not when I told him my sister got into an expensive prep school." She chuckled. Jake and Laura had been told, rather subtly, about Hannah's powers. Hannah coughed, and blushed, before standing back. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She moved her hands in front of her, and tapped into her powers.
  11. She grabbed her latest book and climbed into her bed to do a little reading before they got home. She felt a little guilty taking advantage of Ashley like that. Normally Ashley would have skipped out of the house at the earliest opportunity, but as Hannah needed time to pack, she had been forbidden to leave or to foist their younger brothers on her. With time to spare, Hannah decided to unwind a bit. The sound of a closing car door caught her attention. She put the book down and headed downstairs to greet her mother and set things up for dinner. "Hey mom." She said as she walked down the stairs. "How was work?" "Fine, did you finish packing?" Her mom said as she put her briefcase down. "Just finished about ten minutes ago." Hannah said. "Good, double check everything, don't want to be stuck dealing with that tomorrow." Hannah nodded. "I will after dinner, mom." She said. As her father was coming home soon, Hannah headed into the dining room to set up dinner. Paper plates and plastic cups, no dishes to deal with in the morning. As soon as she finished, she heard a car door shut outside.
  12. So she packed, with the same thoroughness that she did everything. Her clothes were neatly sorted. She 'forgot' to pack anything too old or ratty. First impressions at a new school were important. She'd wanted to get a haircut, something cute, but neither of her parents had managed to find the time to take her. The plan was to fly out to Freedom City on Saturday, see a bit of the city, see more Sunday, and take the plunge Monday. Jake had managed to call her about her new school last week, but couldn't make time to come in. Ashley was probably jealous that Hannah was getting to escape the dull world, but Hannah really wasn't sure she wanted to. Sammy was depressed at her leaving and Hannah hoped that Ashley would spend more time with him to compensate. Pete didn't seem to understand very well that he was leaving. New place, new opportunities. New people to ignore her, new corners to find and read in. New classes, new books. New subjects even. It was going to be a very big adventure, and she was terrified and delighted all at once. She finished her packing at about five in the evening, a little before her parents would come home from work. Her dad was picking up pizza on his way home from one of Hannah's favorite places, one last meal before leaving.
  13. Friday, August 28th Chicago Illinois Hannah Cooper was only a little nervous. Ashley would be watching Peter and Sammy for the weekend. Took a bit to convince her to stay and watch them, and a little bit of money. None of that really mattered to Hannah, before long she'd be on her own in a strange place. She was scared, and more than once her mom tried to talk her out of it. Well, that wasn't quite true, mostly her mom just didn't want her hurt. Superheroes lived dangerous lives. Chicago didn't have many of them, and Freedom City had hundreds. Alien invasions centered on it, all sorts of crazy things happened there. Hannah was steadfast, though. She wasn't going to allow anyone to talk her out of it, even if she was nervous. She needed to understand what her powers were and what they could do. If she didn't do that, she might hurt someone, or herself. Or even accidentally cause a bunch of property damage. So they'd gone to orientation, and she saw the city for the first time. They didn't have any time to really enjoy themselves there, or see the sights. She did get an idea of where she would be staying and what was around the school, which was a good thing. She was a lot less scared knowing that Claremont looked a lot like a typical prep school. Though she suspected the superhero insanity wasn't obvious.
  14. Prism already has her first approval, so she should go on the list soon.
  15. Player Name: Thunder King Character Name: Prism Power Level: 10 (150/161 PP) Trade-Offs: None Unspent Power Points: 11 In Brief: Ordinary teenage girl with the power to summon color shifting energy constructs and blasts Alternate Identity: Hannah Cooper Identity: Secret Birthplace: Chicago Occupation: Student Affiliations: Claremont Academy Family: Jacob Cooper, father; Mary Cooper, mother; Jacob 'Jake' Cooper II, brother; Laura Cooper, sister; Ashley Cooper, sister; Peter Cooper, brother; Samuel 'Sammy' Cooper, brother Description: Age: 16 (DoB: February 24th, 1999 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian Height:: 5'2” Weight: 115 Eyes: Blue Hair: Brown Hannah is short, slightly out of shape, and somewhat nondescript. She has shoulder length brown hair that she keeps neat and out of the way. Most of her clothes are hand-me-downs from her sister Ashley, and thus a couple of years out of style and not fitted for her. What she's gotten for herself tend to be various hoodies, which she tends to wear unless the heat is too severe. However, she has bright blue eyes and a warm smile. Hannah's costume is light purple, loose and comfortable top and pants with a hooded cloak and a simple face mask. She also wears a tactical Kevlar vest her parents bought her before she went off to school and completes the outfit with a pair of sturdy, practical boots. Power Descriptions: Hannah produces blasts and constructs of colorful energy of a cosmic origin. For reasons she doesn't understand, she has no control over what the colors or patterns of her blasts are. The colors range from vivid and garish to muted and subtle, and she has no control over that either. The energy she produces can take the form of cloud-like formations to laser-like beams, but her constructs are consistently crystalline and translucent in appearance. History: Hannah Cooper was born the fourth of six children to a family in the suburbs of Chicago. Her oldest brother is a moderately successful professional football player, while her oldest sister is attending Harvard Law. While she has a loving family, she's always felt buried and overlooked. Her plan for her life was pretty typical, high school, college, marriage, children. The same kind of life she had always expected and wanted. In January of 2015, though, her powers awakened. She kept them a secret for the most part, but practiced with them whenever she could. She struggled between the typical life she'd wanted and her super powers. She had no interest in a life of heroism, but she felt a need to understand them. One night in April she traveled into the city of Chicago. It was dangerous, but she was driven to do it by her need to understand her powers. Her plan was to get in touch with a local hero. Hopefully someone that could help her understand her powers. The person who noticed her, Iron Maiden, couldn't help her, but she did have contacts. Iron Maiden's idea was to find a hero that could take Hannah under their wing and teach her how to use her powers. Iron Maiden promised to be in touch, and for three weeks, Hannah didn't know what was going on. When she received contact from Claremont, it was both better and worse than she expected. Part of her wanted to stay home, ignore her powers and live the life she expected. However, she felt drawn to understand her powers, and so enrolled. Personality & Motivation: Strictly speaking, Hannah doesn't want to be a superhero. She wants to learn how to use her powers and make sure they're controlled. However, in practice she would never walk away from people in need. She knows she can use her powers to help people. She's far more about helping people than punishing criminals, but she also knows her powers can hurt. Powers & Tactics: Hannah generally uses her constructs to control the battlefield, often isolating villains from potential victims. If she's alone, she uses blasts of energy to drop them quickly to end the fight with minimal harm and casualties. If she's working with others, she often uses her powers to support her allies. Complications: I don't know who this Prism is...: Her identity is not public knowledge, and she likes it that way. Um, no, not me: Hannah has a mild case of social anxiety disorder. When forced into the spotlight she is liable to make mistakes and seek to get away. Big Family: Hannah is the fourth of six children, this may cause her problems. 16. I'd just like to request Crimson Tiger, aka Mali Benjawan, don't really care if it's a portrait or what, it'd just be neat to see her drawn. If you'd like more detail, just ask.
  17. Mali wondered exactly what the point was, the product. That was assuming anyone knew she knew martial arts. Publicly, Mali Benjawan was just a young Thai woman living in Freedom City, NJ. She had no tournament record, was registered with no martial arts organizations of note, and was technically an amateur practitioner. With that in mind, she was an obviously muscular young woman watching a martial arts tournament with a critical eye. This person probably noticed that, at least. "What sort of styles are you looking for evaluation on?" She said.
  18. Graft watched the display with curiosity. Monkey Wrench and Miss Grue both approached the situation with caution and care, for a given definition thereof. The situation they were in probably put both of them on their toes as much as it did him. He was ready to fight if it came to that, and he wanted to know what was going on and, more importantly, why, before he waded into a fight with so many unknown factors. "If things get hostile, I hope she has a game plan for getting back out. I'm not sure if we could mount a rescue at this point."
  19. Mali took the card with suspicion. Who was this person, and why did they approach her? It seemed a bit odd especially given her extracurricular activities. She listened to the woman, but was a little on edge. People aren't normally that bold when it came to things like that. Then again, Mali's eye was more critical than many, and she was obviously in good shape. So, she listened.
  20. Mali would have liked to join the tournament, but she decided against it. The chief reason was that she was so used to real combat that she legitimately feared hurting people in the ring, or holding back so much she would be beaten easily or injured herself. Her fights tended to end when she disabled her foe, not just to points. Muay Thai fights were already rough as it was, and she was rougher still. She didn't trust herself to hold back the right amount between fighting all out and playful sparring. The show, however, was awesome. People of varying styles testing their skills. Mali observed things she'd never seen in person before. She was glad she'd had someone to go with, too. Someone who could at least understand her enthusiasm for this sort of competition. Her other friends might be willing to come along, but Tona was the one she thought would enjoy it the most.
  21. "I'm not an alien." Graft said. "Probably wearing one though." His voice dropped an octave, suddenly deep and rumbling from within the suit. The change was striking, adding height and bulk to turn the average sized doctor into a brute. "It does communicate with me, though not clearly. It seems to push images and feelings into me, nothing coherent or complex." The suit seemed to...twitch, almost. An unusual, minor signal, unlike anything he'd experienced. It was gone as soon as he felt it. He suspected it might be reacting to Miss Grue's telepathy, but he wasn't an expert on that sort of thing, and the approaching army told him he had more to be concerned about than that.
  22. This was strange, but he had seen strange before. Tyrone realized with growing concern that he would need to use his suit for this, and could not realistically escape from their watch to do so. So, he tapped the handle of his doctor's bag twice. He tried not to make a show of it as the undifferentiated biomass slithered it's way out of the bag, pooling at his feet. It lifted him visibly off the ground by nearly a foot and snaked its way up his legs, shifting and changing. It became like an exoskeleton, green and glossy like an insect's shell. It crept upward on his body, shifting and moving. For brief moments bare muscle, nerve and bone were visible before the shell covered it up. He'd managed, with great patience, to keep the suit's structure at least somewhat stable while he wasn't fighting. In combat, however, it still 'forgot' to keep everything under control. eyes formed on his head that he really didn't need, and holes for his ears that were equally unnecessary. He realized that no visible eyes or ears made the suit even more unnerving. It still lacked a mouth, but at least now people knew what to talk to. "Sorry about that." He said. "Haven't found a nicer way to do that yet."
  23. Tyrone was confused. He had no idea where he was, or what he was doing there, or what these people were. However, he did know one thing. He was a superhero, and sometimes weird stuff just happened. He was glad that he had the forethought to sneak the suit into his doctor's bag, but he knew he would have trouble getting away from the other heroes. It would probably prove to be in his best interest just to let them know and hope they didn't say anything to anyone. They were superheroes, and all of them had a vested interest in not blabbing about secret identities. "We can try to help you." Tyrone said, interjecting firmly, yet politely. "But, we need to know what's wrong, what needs to be done. I'm sure we'd all appreciate it if you could provide us a way back if we do succeed in helping you with whatever you need done. This is not our home."
  24. Tyrone is going to try and negotiate some sort of explanation out of these people, 25 diplomacy with skill mastery if I need it,.
  25. Tyrone let the two young women discuss her Grue heritage and stepped forward with his medical bag. "Hi, Andy, my name is Dr. Mendoza." He shook the young man's hand and looked him over. He looked into his eyes, checked his pulse and checked his temperature. There were no physiological signs. Not that he'd expected any, at this point. "Thanks for being so cooperative." He said to the boy. "You're a strong boy, aren't you?" He looked up at the mother. "Nothing wrong with him physically. Though I think getting him out of the area is a good idea. Long term exposure to this kind of radiation is a bad idea. It's background radiation, he's come to no harm, but he shouldn't be around it too long, to be on the safe side."
