  1. 24 work?
  2. The crowd were, as expected, still nervous. However the near panic that had washed over them had now passed. Rene's exploration of the area lead him towards the darkness. With his glasses on, he could see where the menacing, supernatural aura lead. There was a spot towards the back of the circus area, and when he reached it the darkness and shadows filled the air and his heart. For a moment, he felt a twinge of fear, like a discordant note on his heart strings. It passed quickly. Peering through the depths of the magic and into the heart of the malevolent force, he saw what could only be described as a tumor, a black lump of dark magic, anchored in place by shadowy, ephemeral chains. Two slits, looking strangely like eyes. They seemed to glow a malevolent red, and seemed, against all sanity and logic, to be glaring at him.
  3. He flipped a switch as he passed it, killing the lights in the storage room he knew they were probably in. He suspected that they were there for drugs. With any luck they'd freak out, maybe even run away. He stepped into the room and let them take in just how frightening he was. With the light coming in from the other rooms, he was a silhouette. Nearly seven feet tall, with no eyes, nose or mouth. His body was a grotesque display of muscle and bones, far larger and more muscular than all but some metahumans. He extended the two tentacles from his shoulders and let them hover in the air menacingly. Tyrone Mendoza had a light, pleasant voice that was soothing to patients. The suit dropped his voice by several octaves, leaving it a deep baritone. So when he let out a low growl, it sounded as though it came from some sort of monster.
  4. Tyrone Mendoza was not capable of confronting whatever happened to have made that noise, but Graft was. "Please, Miss, stay here for your own safety." He said opening the door and shutting it. It locked before Carrie could respond. "I'm going to see what's going on, call the police if I have to. Could just be vandals." He passed the suit on his way and tapped the bag it lie in. It was hidden in a backpack under a set of shelves As if on command, it slithered out of the opening in the top and onto him. It lifted him off of his feet and formed new feet beneath him. It coagulated around his body and added over a foot in height. He was grateful that he could see in all directions and in the infrared spectrum. That would help, a lot.
  5. "Thanks." Mali said with a smile. "Actually, hair...yeah, I know just the place. Real nice salon, does good work. I figure we can head out to get some lunch day of the party, go get our hair done, maybe our nails. Maybe head back to my folks' house or something to get prettied up." She chuckled. "If you don't mind me, I'll go change out of the dress. We'll find each of us something and we'll show up looking good."
  6. He nodded. "Well if you think you can pay for a prescription, I'll go ahead and write one." He checked her pulse, her blood pressure, her breathing. All the usual stuff. He finished and nodded. "Yeah that's...that's a shame, really. I don't have much here, though I have some samples I got a few weeks back. I can give you some to see if that helps, at least until you can get the script filled. If you can't pay for a prescription, well, I can give you a few more free samples." "That cold sounds pretty rough, but you will probably fight it off on your own with a few days of rest, some fluids, the medicine should help."
  7. Mali gave a bit of a curtsy and grinned. "Thanks. Might be a little chilly the night of the party, so I'll probably wear my usual jacket over it before we get there. It's a biker's leather, but it works well enough with the red. I think we should all go the party together. I mean I can drive, I got a nice car, we can all fit in it no problem. That work for you guys?" She looked at the two of her friends. She could also extend the offer to Sam, Tona, and Cerys, though she didn't quite have the room for all of them. Maybe she could bring Cerys in with her. Sam and Tona would probably want to come together anyway.

  9. Solar Sentinel Henry heard the call for food and immediately headed in that direction. He hadn't bothered getting much to eat that day, and while he was used to long days without eating, it wasn't his favorite activity. He stopped at the table full of alien dishes and spent a few minutes looking it over. He was looking to see if there was anything that a Zarnashi might enjoy. He had his full of their food, but when he saw that unusual display of food, he felt it might be interesting to see if he recognized anything whatsoever. When he decided that he didn't, he moved on. He got himself a nice sized plate of food and a cup of coffee. Cold was another thing that he could easily shrug off...but a hot cup of coffee in the cold was always welcome.
  10. "Oh, college." Mali said. "Probably a local one, you know. Don't want to go too far from home." She smiled and shrugged. "No idea what major, but I suppose I've got...oooo!" She said excitedly, spotting a dress on the wall. It was a dark red and seemed to be right what she was looking for. She looked at the size, but notably, not the price tag. "Oh, perfect!" She said. "I gotta go try this on." She said, practically running over to the dressing room. A few moments later, she popped out and gave a twirl. It had thin shoulder straps, and a reasonably high neckline. Her muscular shoulders and arms were noticeable as the dress did nothing to cover them. "Well?" She said, grinning. "Do I look good, or what?"
  11. Alright, look, IC, I appreciate the natural 20, but I did not need a 31 for notice
  12. He nodded and reached onto a shelf they passed. "Here you go. A disposable package of about fifteen to twenty. Go ahead and keep that." He said with a smile. "I think, maybe, that I know what's going on with you." He said. "I'm going to check your vitals, your breathing, stuff like that. Probably give you a script for some good prescription cold medicine." He said. "Of course it could be something else, but that's what the examination is for." He opened the door. "After you." He said.
  13. The clinic was fairly empty, which was rare. It looked fairly homely on the outside, but fairly neat on the inside. Tyrone Mendoza was close to going home when he heard someone open the door. He got up and headed towards the waiting room. When he headed to the front room, he spotted Carrie and nodded. "Hi, I'm Dr. Mendoza. You seem to be the only patient, so why don't you come to the examination room and I'll see what's going on." He said with a polite smile. He turned towards the door and motioned for her to follow.
  14. Solar Sentinel Henry chuckled at Velocity's comment. "I spent most of the past century in space, actually. Interesting times." He said with a polite nod. As Gaian Knight and Tiamat entered, he turned and politely nodded. He listened to their story with a bit of amusement. He'd ended up late to his day job a few times simply because he had a robbery to break up or something. It was a problem he could empathize me. "Funny thing about the business we're in. No time off." He said. "Nice of you folks to hold this party for us all. I don't often get a chance to meet people like us. Work keeps me busy. Look at me rambling." He said with a chuckle before offering his hand. "They call me Solar Sentinel, I go by Henry when I'm not in my fancy long johns."
  15. Mali noted the Cline family as they approached. The tour guide thing was something she was happy to do. Claremont had done a lot to help her grow as a person, and she made a lot of good friends. So, when she was introduced, she nodded politely and smiled her cheeriest smile. She was bundled up a bit, though not as much as Holly, with a snug looking black coat. She kept her hair short for nearly a year now, choosing today to just let it rest neatly in a semi-disheveled pile on her head. "Hi guys." She said, looking to the Vice-Principal for a semi-approval to take over. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Cline, Mrs. Cline, Will. Holly." She nodded to each one in turn. "If you guys will come with me, I'll start the tour. I gotta say, I was nervous about coming to Claremont, but I've learned so much here." She smiled, clearly remembering some pleasant memories. "Made a lot of good friends, too." She could only guess how the parents were feeling, or Will. She knew she was pretty nervous, and excited, about coming to Claremont. Will could be coming along very reluctantly, or could be ecstatic. Either way, it was bound to be interesting.
  16. Solar Sentinel Solar Sentinel shook Arcturus' hand. "A pleasure." Then he heard the song come on, and chuckled to himself. "Wonderful song, really." He said, looking up as if trying to pinpoint the origins. "It always makes me chuckle, though. I hear what other people consider a classic song or see a classic talking picture, and all I think about is how I'm even older than it is." He eyed Comrade Frost with a bit of curiosity. "Nice to meet you, Sir." He said. He was a bit amused at his mannerisms, but supposed that superheroes came in all sorts of odd forms. Being an immortal space man wasn't even the oddest he'd heard of.
  17. "You're right. I should go with a red, but...a bit of a more subtle red. Something a bit darker than my work clothes." She didn't know who was listening, so she didn't want to outright say costume. She spotted a dress on the wall and scrutinized it. "Ha, no, not that one. That, um...that's a bit too...bold for my taste." The dress had a dipped neckline and a skirt that would probably go to her knees. "Blue, yeah." She chuckled. "I can imagine you don't want to wear blue. As for trashy, well. I consider trashy something that shows way too much skin for an occasion like this. I want to look good, elegant, even pretty. Not...yeah."
  18. Solar Sentinel Henry bowed his head in respect and smiled. "Happy Holidays to you too. It's nice in here. Nice and homey." He glanced around. "I go by the name of Solar Sentinel when I'm in costume, but you can call me Henry." He took her hand and shook it firmly. "Yes, you people did a great job decorating the place." He said with a polite smile. Truth of the matter was, he hadn't had a reason to celebrate Christmas since he was in the trench in the Great War. He and the boys held on to it, it kept them sane during the worst of times. After that though, with no family and few friends, the holiday lost it's meaning to him. And in space, he completely forgot what day it would have been on Earth. Though glancing up at that great tree in front of Freedom Hall and seeing the fire and decorations and cheer? That warmed his heart, and he was instantly grateful for the invitation, and happy to attend.
  19. ...12 Hmm...I should probably try to reroll that one. 27? MUUUCH better
  20. "Mali said she was bringing friends. I hope you're all hungry." Someone said from the far room. He was a little taller than Mali, with some of the same features, her eyes for one. He wore a pair of slacks and a polo shirt. It was evident where Mali got her strength from, because there was clear muscular tone in his shoulders, though his was sleeker and less bulky. He was smiling an honest smile, clearly glad to see his daughter's friends. "Hello." Another voice said, stepping from behind him. She was a bit shorter than Mali, and Mali's other features were obvious in her face, such as Mali's nose and ears. She was a pretty woman in her late 30s. She wore a simple dark green dress, she too was all smiles. "I'm glad to see you all here." "Annan" He said, shaking the hands of each of the girls in turn. "Apsari." She said, shaking the others' hands. "Now let's see...Tona, Sam, Cerys, Giang." Annan said, ticking off each name as he nodded to each girl. "Did I get it right?" "We've heard wonderful things about you girls. Every time Mali comes home to visit she's got new stories about all of her new, wonderful friends." Apsari said. "Our home is yours." Annan said with a polite nod. "You are all welcome in our home. It is an honor to meet you all. Please excuse us, we are still working on dinner." It did not need to be said, but it was clear that the Benjawans knew that Mali had left no friends behind at her old high school, and that they were grateful that she'd found so many good friends.
  21. Crimson Tiger saw that Freddy was struggling a bit and ran in to help. She veered past one baffled thug and put her hands on Freddy's shoulders. "Alley-oop!" She said as she vaulted over his shoulder and through the doorway. As soon as she did so she swung her leg around and slammed her knee into the side of his head, sending the man flying backward into the wall. One of the advantages of Muay Thai was that a skilled fighter used not just legs and arms, but knees and elbows. That allowed her to deliver a lot of force in a very short distance. She landed in front of Freddy and moved forward to give him a bit of room. "Sorry if I stole your opponent, but you looked like you needed a bit of help, and I needed a way inside the room."
  22. Rolling an acrobatic bluff and moving through Mess to strike at the he's fighting. Got a 25 with fast acrobatic bluff and skill mastery. Since I've been told the result of her bluff attempt, she's gonna go all out on a power attack; Got a 15. Since his defense is only 13 (according to the GM) that's a DC27 TOU save
  23. Solar Sentinel Henry had the cab drop him off about a block away from Freedom Hall. He stepped out of the car, paid the driver, and stepped onto the sidewalk. Once the driver was out of sight, he walked towards Freedom Hall. He'd been off shift at the station for a couple of days, and wouldn't need to report for another shift for a few days, so barring a massive fire, he had all night to enjoy himself. He wore a stylish 1920s style suit with matching hat and coat, all in gray. The cold did little to impact a man who was used to the blackness of space. Once he was inside the building, he glanced around and took in the festive decorations with a nod of approval. He took his hat off soon after entering and held it in his hands. Old habits, even habits that were nearly a century old, did not die easily. In his day, no man stepped outdoors without a hat, and seldom wore them while indoors.
  24. Tyrone Mendoza was a busy man. Every morning, promptly at six, he would wake up, grab a cup of coffee from his coffee maker, and head out. Generally he would be at the school by eight, barring traffic. Of course, sometimes he would simply put the suit on and jump and run to the school, dodging traffic altogether. Today, however, that seemed not to be the case. He was out the door and about two miles away from home when he heard an awful crashing noise. He zipped around the corner and spotted three cars in a vicious looking wreck. He ran towards them and glanced around. One car slammed into the side of another, which sent both cars careening into the rear-end of the third. The third car looked to simply be dented, and the passenger was already out of their car and sitting on the side of the road. The first car, the one that started the mess, had it's front end caved in and it's passengers were also out of the car. Both of them looked shaken, and one had a small laceration on her forehead, but otherwise fine. The other car, however, had it's entire driver's side door caved in. He looked into the car with his infrared vision and spotted that the sole passenger was indeed alive. He approached the car and glanced in. She screamed. It was a loud, ear-piercing, terrified scream. He sighed. This was going to be bothersome. He let the suit slide from his right hand to reveal that yes, in fact, he was human. That seemed to help her a bit. “Are you hurt?†He asked in Graft's deep baritone. He always thought that amusing, that the suit simply disguised his voice. Between the foot of height, hundred pounds of bulk and voice change, no one he knew could hope to recognize him. She shook her head. “Yeah. I think my leg is broke.†She said, closing her eyes in agony. “Are you trapped?†He asked. She nodded nervously. He glanced around. “Has anyone called for paramedics?†he asked. One person nodded and held their phone up. “How long ago?†“Like, three minutes? Four?†She said. He nodded. “Alright, Ma'am, paramedics are on their way.†“I'm afraid. Please don't leave. You're a superhero right?†He nodded. “Yes, I am. If you want me to stay with you, I will.†She smiled a weak smile and laid back slightly. Soon, the paramedics were there, but it was evident that they couldn't get the door open. “It's broke in.†One of them said. “Are you as strong as you look?†He said, looking up at Graft, who merely nodded. “Think you can get that door off gently?†“What about the fire department?†“I don't know, man.†The paramedic said. “If her leg is bad, we might not want to wait.†Graft thought of all the ways a broken leg could turn bad and simply nodded. “I may not look like it, but I'm a doctor.†he said, stepping towards the car door. “I'm sure there's a good story to how you got to look like that.†The paramedic said. Graft, with all the gentle care he could put into breaking a car door, tore enough of the door off to get the woman out. She was right. Her leg was bad. “Alright.†One of the paramedics said as they put her on the stretcher. “We're out. Thanks for the help!†he said with a wave. Graft nodded and turned to a nearby building. He leaped into the air with one big push and extended one of the tentacles to grab onto the wall to help pull him all the way up. From there, he leaped, building to building, across town to the school. There was an alleyway that nobody ever visited, about three buildings away from his office. He landed on the roof, dropped into the alleyway, and instructed the suit to remove itself. It pulled away from his legs first, creating a disorienting sensation of losing a foot in height. Then it pulled from the rest of him, disengaging from his nervous system. At first, that was an odd, unsettling feeling, but he'd gotten used to it. It crawled into his backpack and compressed into it's compact, portable form. He slung the backpack around his shoulder and stepped out of the alleyway. “Mendoza!†One of the researchers said. “You were almost late. What happened?†“Oh, a problem with traffic.â€
  25. "This is fun." She said, bouncing back and forth slightly. She was actually trying to goad him into putting his guard down slightly, but knew she couldn't afford to hang back for long. She hopped backward slightly and bounced around the ring a bit. She knew the key to getting in was staying fast and staying mobile. While Muay Thai was an art dedicated to the clinch and all the nasty stuff you could do in it, she knew Morgan was not the kind of fighter to try that on without some set up. She threw a couple test jabs, trying to see how quick his reactions were, before coming in for a sweeping kick to the right leg.
