GM Post The arrow flew good and true towards the woman and looked like it would strike her. But as it got closer the arrow began to smoulder as if caught in strong sunlight, then less than a meter from the woman it burst into flames burning to ash. “We have assassins about, or worse superheroes.” she put some real venom into that last part The hair coming out the top of her mask burst into flames, whilst her hands similarly began to burn. Looking for the source of the attack and cause some sort of revenge.

Mentors Willing to play: All of them basically! Would like to play: The Immutable Betsy Brooks, Revenant, Zhenshchina-voin and Triakosia. Students Students: Madame Raven, Starshine Would like to meet: No real preference. Madame Raven thing is about her relationship to Callie and if she's time displaced, a clone or something else. Starshine on the other hand is all about gaining confidence.

No saves are needed as to how and if you feel any sense of dread, its more a colour type of thing. You have a few minutes before she arrives to discuss any kind of plan. And sorry for the delay, just been a few of those kind of days.

GM Post With the combined effort of the heroes they managed to subdue the mob, without causing them any harm. The world didn’t changed from it’s black and white goodness, and it took a few seconds to work out why they hadn’t yet left for the colourful real world. Slowly drifting from the far distance was a single figure, floating a few inches from the ground. The slow incessant movement including spooky diegetic music started to building an unnatural sense of dread in those heroes who could feel such thing. Those of a more analytic nature might recognize the figure from an obscure version of Dracula from the Golden Age of cinema. One of Dracula’s wives dressed in billowy robes. Real experts in the genre might know the actors names, Lauren Hammond, a few more up on super powered foes might know her with a different name, Silver Scream.

Lucy Harker Of all of them Lucy had changed the least, her visage being almost black and white at the best of time. Still keeping others comfortable wasn’t going to be necessary so she took off her sunglasses to show her coal black eyes. With the grain of old film they sparkled and shifted making them seem worse than her regular look. They still showed her what she normal noticed, and maybe even a little bit more. “None of them are undead, but it all tinged with necromancy. Which is ironic as I’m probably going to be burned as one of the un-dead.” despite the seriousness, and weirdness, of all this she was pretty calm about the whole thing. Even if the fire wasn’t exactly her most favourite thing. She then took off with the other helping them get the younger members of the mob and keeping them safe from harming the heroes or themselves.

GM Post Through a mix of charm and coercion, along with some creative conjuring you manage to convince the hotel to allow you to progress. Doors now offer new locations and corridors converge until all of you are again together. The last of you arrive at a massive pair of wooden doors, the last point before returning to the Hall. The door themselves are impressive made of ash they were intricately carved, at each of the bottom corner where a pair of stylised snakes, whilst at the top corners were a pair of eagles. In-between were a pair of squirrels who depending on when you looked seemed to be going up or down the door without any rhyme or reason. The other side of the door you could hear the moving form of the Carrion Queen, along with the stench of death that had come along with her. She wasn’t ranting or raving instead every now and again you could hear a little bloop as she tested the barriers. Before you all stepped through the door you needed a plan to counter the necromantic magics that had bought her to Earth-Prime.

Liam Conner Rosa would have told him not to get involved, that it wasn’t there place to help people. And that he might be invulnerable, but they stung like heck. Still she was napping right now and it was his call. “Save my place would you Alina?” he smile confidently at the woman He then stepped forward arms raised, he hoped that they didn’t know them from around here, if they came from western Hardwick he might get away with it. “She’s right you know!” He agreed with the woman that sounded vaguely familiar “And I’m sure the Mara wouldn’t be happy with you messing with there agreements?” If the mob didn’t spook them then the powerful local gang might do the job.

Starshine Rosalind listened along to the others and it didn't manage to make her any more relaxed. To her small town ear they all sounded so much exciting than her boring old life, and that was from statements that were one third false. So wrapped up she almost missed the last statement, and that it was her turn. After a few seconds silence she looked around guiltily before speaking. “Well… erm… the rice thing I guess?”she figured she might have gotten away with if, so with a tiny bit of confidence she added “I was born on US 206, I’m an only child and I’d had an imaginary friend called Gerald.” That should do it, she hoped.

Sorry yes the implication is that everyone is in black and white. But thinking about it I'm also fine if you have an excuse to stay in colour. Lucy is more or less black and white anyway!

vignette Ghost Stories - October / November Vignette 2021
Tiffany Korta replied to Tiffany Korta's topic in Freedom City Stories
Глубоко в архивах. Zhenschina-voin Three hundred years was a long time to collect ghosts. Klara had spent the night down in the depths of Ministries records, a briefing from the League about a new teen hero had sparked a memory from the War. Archives like this were a liminal space filled with the ghost of the memories put down, most from people long gone. Giving that she’d started on Samhain the barriers were even thinner, and mystics had been talking about something big going down, so to find a ghost appearing wasn’t really a big surprise. <“ Hello Klara Svoboda!”> Barely looking up from the box she’d been looking through Klara replied nonplus, she’d grown up in a place where spirits were an almost mundane thing. She recognized the old uniform the ghost wore, the uniform of a KGB officer, one she knew so well for her time in Soviet Russia. <”Hello Comrade Kariyeva Filippovna, it’s been a while. Have you lost weight?”> she even used the Russian she learned back then rather than how she spoke it now <”So you haven’t forgotten me then?”> the ghost didn’t sound at all amused <”You were my last handler before I left for the West, and it won’t work you know.”> it had been a long day and she would be trouble for missing dinner and probably now breakfast <”It’s not you who I feel any guilt about, I suspect you don’t remember poor Private Volvakov Yeremey Kirillovich?”> The ghost looked confused trying to figure out who this person was and how they would have been important to Glorious Russia. <”He was with the first unit I was assigned with, a poor kid with big dreams. Without thinking he took a bullet for me, even though I wouldn’t have been fine. The first time I saw someone I knew die...”> before the ghost could give a smart arse reply about the war she carried on speaking <”Then there’s Sopova, she had the cutest giggle. She was with the Night Witches when I first joined. We got drunk on cheap booze and I kissed her without thinking, she gently told me about her husband. The first night out I was showboating with a couple of Messerschmitt’s and she got caught by flak. If I’d been more attentive she probably would have made it back okay.”> The ghost was silent now, obviously knew that she wasn’t going to get easy revenge. And Klara thought she felt the presence of others, this must have been tied to whatever the mystics had been on about. <”Then there were all those times I could have saved so many deaths with just one, for a few months I helping out the Chinese Communist. Imagine the lives that I could have saved if I’d just quietly snapped Mao’s neck?”> she frowned for a few seconds before a realization hit her “Right a cat that was what I was thinking about, the Catgirl with the Japanese supers.” She looked at the ghost, she knew the woman spoke perfect English, not that she’d admit that she knew such a decadent western tongue. Knowing where to look now she went to go towards the relevant shelf, leaving a parting shot. <“Besides you died at the age of 97 and bitter old woman, don’t think that you can make me feel guilty for your life. I know about all the people you sent to the gulag or worse so I wouldn’t find the truth about the dirty underside of the glorious Soviet Union.”> She walked down a few more shelves now knowing where she was going to look, but that itchy feeling hadn’t gone away though it felt a little different somehow. Klara might have been bought up a warrior but she had still be trained to trust her feeling on strange events going on around her. “I might be two hundred and fifty but my senses aren’t that bad yet! It’s fine to come out if you want.” From the shadows formed the form of another young Russian woman, though one she was much happier to see. Even if it was tinged by a touch of sadness. Behind her, she could make out the shapes of many more, possibly more than she wanted to consider. “I good to see you again Kristina! It was a good service I hope you enjoyed it?” she had been the last Night Witch Klara had known, living a quiet life in Freedom City “It is good to see you as well little one! Thank you for the kinds words you said.” she smiled sweetly “And you have nothing to be sad about, I lived a long and happy life.” even when looking like a young woman she sounded like an old grandma “I’m glad to hear it!” she kept walking looking for what she was looking for “What about the other there? Do they want to haunt me for a life wasted, whilst I keep on living my life?” “We all get the life we get, it is pointless to get upset with things we cannot control.” she shrugged along with her very Russian attitude “All part of the great plan? Any chance that you can tell me what's going on tonight… this morning I guess?” this hunch better be worth the grief she’d get from Tracy “Something has allowed a thing to escape from the Otherside, we only came through to stop that сука causing you harm.” Klara smiled as she remembered on the night the Night Witches, after several bottles from a German cellar, explained that she wasn’t protecting them they were protecting her. Perhaps things hadn’t changed as much as she thought, people still cared enough to look after her. “Thank you as always, though I think it’s time you rejoin the squadron I have my own path to travel now! Enjoy that eternal R&R you’ve all earned that.” With another smile the bunch of ghosts faded away, along as well she noticed Kariyeva. The archive felt the normal kind of haunted rather than the more literal kind. With a shrug she finally dug out the file she was after, the files thin on it was for Neko, Japanese for Cat, it was obvious really. She couldn’t be sure if it was the same person or some sort of legacy, it was certainly something interesting to look into. Klara wondered if she should see if she could track down this young hero, after all, she might like someone who remembered those times. Maybe it might help her put to rest some ghosts of her own. -
ic Shark Week: Raiders of the Lost Shark
Tiffany Korta replied to Brown Dynamite's topic in Known Space
The Traveller Sitara had seen this limited military thinking many, many times before and it was generally a frustrating thing to encounter. She’d been trained to think as much as an engineer as a warrior, and that meant looking at the failures as much as the successes. “You’d be surprised what you can learn from mud, every planet has a unique mix of qualities with enough knowledge you can track a place down to the square meter of ground.” before he could make some pithy retort she carried on “Does the wreckage show any sign of torsional stress from being twisted through dimension? What about micro alteration in the structure from exposure to subspace energies? And there’s always a chance that you can find enough remnants of the data to find something useful.” she gave a little shrug before adding “But I guess you want us go take a look at the wormhole so it’s not your problem any more?” -
Liam Conner It had been a long night staking out and collecting info for their client, even worse for “someone” it was one of those mundane cases that they had to take to pay the bills. And it didn’t make the long night any easier with the sound of Rosa snoring away (how a disembodied spirit snored was something that he dare not dwell upon.). still, soon he could sleep and Rosa could do her thing, something about etheric movements or some such mystical nonsense. Still, before getting back to the office in Wolverton he needed a little pick me up, stopping Sanchez's for the terrible coffee that got you through the day. When the crazy woman, who looked vagely familiar, offered a free drink he quickly counted up and gently shuffled a local woman in front of him for the freebie. “You can go first Alina I’ve just hit the jackpot with a case!” that was a lie as he’d had to raid the last of the petty cash. Always the hero even here, the snoozing Rosa would not have approved!

She is very, very magical in nature, mostly necromatic in nature, and that's her true form and not any kind of illusion.

I've split you all into four teams of three, a little swapping around is fine but don't to crazy One Aquaria Phantom Set Two Blackstaff Cait-Sith Ouroboros Three Artificer Effigy Oz Four Invisigirl Masque Veronica Danger
-
You've been split off into groups of 2-4 into a corridor or room that is trying to stop you getting back to the main hall, looping back to where you started out. How you solve the problem is up to you, no rolls are necessary it's all about flexing your magic and showing off all the cool things that you can do!

GM Post A second arm shot out and began to drag the humanoid figure out from the void an ancient grey face surrounded by an array of tentacle-like dreadlocks and face a scowl of determination. With her arrival, there was now the awful smell of death a decay that only got worse as she pulled herself out of the rift. She then stood to her full height, no more than an average human but somehow her thin gaunt form looked all the more intimidating. “At last I return to bring the wrath of the Carrion Queen upon this Earth!” What else she had to say you couldn’t tell as in a final defensive matter the hotel folded its dimension upon itself trying to protect you all from this invader. Deploying small groups of you within different parts of the place, folding rooms and halls around you to stop this invader from causing you harm. But even the lowliest of mages knew that the hotel couldn’t retain this invade and if she left the boundaries of the place then things would go badly for the world.
-
GM Post There was an unexpected change in the atmosphere of the room with a feeling like static electricity and a taste of tin in the air. All the mages in the room couldn’t help but know that it was happening now. Between the two sweeping staircases, a space had been cleared to create a binding circle that glowed softly from the energies already spent in its creation. Now around it, the air seemed to shimmer and bulge as if the dimension were being bent and rent by intense forces. Then an arm shot out and grasped at the floor, claw-like nails creating gouges in the floor. The flesh of the creature was grey and pale, that of something that had been dead for a long time. The size of the arms seemed to shrink and grow as the dimensions around the creature changed dramatically, the hotel itself was obviously trying to fight this dimensional intrusion. The amount of raw magic being thrown around was intense and something would have to break soon rather than later.

Sinister magics have transported the heros inside a classic Universal Movie! The mob needs defeating but as this is sort of a social thread don't worry about any kind of rolls, also feel free to flesh out the mob as you wish. The idea here is to let the character show off how cool and capable so thats the main focus.
-
GM Post The air seemed to tingle and for those with any magical sense something had changed, but there wasn’t time to worry about that as changes were also happening at the Orpheum. A fog rolled into the room, not the unnatural smoke of a machine but the damp misty air from nature. As it did the room filled with darkness as all colour seemed to drain from the world, until you seemed to be in a black and white world. Then shapes started to form in the shape of tree’s, but the perspective seemed off they looked like props in an old movie going off into the distance in an Expressionistic style. More worryingly up the hill you were now on there was a small crowd making there way towards you. With torches raised and pitchfork in hand you couldn’t help but conclude that this is your traditional mob.

Lucy Harker “And yet everyone remembers him!” she gestured at the poster of Nosferatu “Personally I always preferred Carmilla, shame Theda never got a chance to play her.” She turned and smiled at Horrowshow, all smile and charm. “I’m Lucy Harker, attorney-at-law and occasional superhero.” she shook his hand holding back her full strength “That a pretty good costume, though I’m more a Hammer Horror girl myself! I should really have done a costume tonight, I guess I could take off these…” she gestured to her sunglasses “But the black eyed look is a little cliché!”

Madame Raven Callie made her way over the rooftops, sacrificing a little stealth for more speed, besides most people never looked up even in a city full of cowls! This was always fun and she had to remind herself that this was a serious mission and now just a regular workout routine! As such she took a minute to get her into cowl voice, grinning and bubbly wasn’t very on brand! “Anyone have eyes on the targets? How we want to handle this?” you always needed comms for something like this, everyone was just to good at hiding.
