vignette June 2012 Vignette - NPC Limelight/Player's Choice

NPC Spotlight Maggie McPhail (Young Britannia’s Agent) Edinburgh, Scotland After the day Maggie had she though it was only fair to have a relaxing bath a glass (of two) of wine and catch up on her soups. She’d spent the day on the phone to some two bit studio in Freedom City, Agnes was meant to have played her first TV show since her relaunch. But being Freedom City the show had been attacked by some two bit supervillian. The studio was blissfully happy that they had footing of a Supers smack down, provided by the villain herself no less, and seem less than keen on allowing Agnes another chance to play. The thing that she had never understood was why she had chosen Maggie to handle her career after her return from the wasteland. Whilst Agnes’s wasn’t the brightest of stars she was still more successful than the local acts she normally handled. Before Agnes she would have killed for a country wide famous dancing dog, how did he manage to make success which such things? And in Freedom she was having a measure of success her tiny music studio, Zenith Studios, was doing remarkably well. She had already had a hit with her partner and she was gaining some success in signing and promoting local acts. Most artists in that situation would just say bugger it and just manage themselves, but no not Agnes, instead she’d asked Maggie to handle the other acts she’d signed to her studio. So now she spent most of her time sorting out gigs and appearances of Freedom City acts, including a suitable amount of time in the city itself. Still as her Uncle use to say don’t worry about the details just go for it (which was a lie he worried about everything, but his client was a pain in the arse). So she took another, generous, glass of wine and sat down on her couch. Then she saw the letter. It was just sitting there on the table, no post mark or anything. Why would someone bother to break into her flat just to deliver a letter? After a quick look around the flat to make sure she was all alone she took her seat again, with her trusty kitchen knife, to look at this letter. It was written in a steady tidy handwriting having only her name, including her suspect middle name she normally left out, and a cryptic message that this might interest her. Well there was nothing else to do but to open the envelope and look at the contents. Inside was an old aged letter, though it took a while to figure its age it looked like modern lined paper and written in ballpoint pen, and whilst she wasn’t sure she thought she recognized the handwriting. The photograph that accompanied it that she had no problem identifying the person; it was someone she knew very well. It was Agnes! But just how did it happen, how did someone from the 18th century look just after her, and have her handwriting. She heard about people having double but that didn’t happen to normal people that happened to heroes… Realization dawned and she drained her glass of wine and she automatically topped it up with a generous second. Having built up enough Dutch courage she decided to contact to one person she knew could help her deal with this. “Hi Uncle Eddie its Maggie. Yeah I know how late it is but I need your advice on something. Look I know this sound strange but just how did you deal with a client who’s a Superhero?†-
Revenant face was still grim, she wasn’t really a fan of Mr White. Mostly because of the deal she had to make. Despite herself she still held the faint hope she could somehow talk her out of this situation, though she suspect she’d have to take more direct action. “Just because something hasn’t been done doesn’t mean it should be done. The century I missed is filled with horrible things that shouldn’t have been tried.†Despite herself she had to know exactly what was happening “So what have you done to these people?â€

She sat there and gave Starlights question some serious though, she looked quite solemn and it look for a minute she’d refuse Starlights request. But then she gave a broad smile. “Of cause I’d be happy to allow you to wander my ship, but I must refuse you access to certain areas. Sleipnir Starlight has level 5 access to the ship and facilities. That means you can’t access the cargo hold or any of the engineering sections, and of cause you won’t be able to access certain data or use hyperspace communication. If you want I can arrange for you to use the Ansible to contact Earth.†She stood up and gestured away Starlight’s guard. “You have around 20 hours before we reach Soo-Tine. If you excuse me I have business to attend to.â€

She already a fan so I'll give you a bonus. She's up to helpful, but within bounds. To keep things simple when you leave the Conference room Synth will be able to spot you.

Merge Trois (PL 10 NPC, Tier 1)

Okay that what I thought, I think I've made those edits but not made that clearer. So my bad again  . As for the NPC thing I've had the same thought's myself. But I'm at least a couple of month from a spare character slot, and it would nice to set up her villianry before she goes straight... Is there anything stopping a NPC being promoted to a PC? -
“I think we differ on whether I’m flawed or not. I see them as strength’s not weaknesses. Then again I’m seen some dead people who are full of life, and some alive people who were dead inside.†She took a position behind one of the chair, away from Mr White, and casually observed how the victim was bound. “That’s the problem sometime with book learning; you forget that there are people involved. And people tend to break the rules, you’ve got a whole city full of rule breakers right outside the door.†Despite herself she gave a little smile “You know I’m caught at a bit of a conundrum. You know I’m going to have to stop you, but whilst he’s bad, this Master is almost family. So there is a part of me hope he’s in some way redeemable.†Her face took a grim look “And I haven’t forgotten our deal.â€

She was still a little miffed and as normal that transferred to her aura that glowed a little brighter. Wait why not use that to her advantage? It would take a lot of effort, she always found using her powers draining, but it should be enough to light up the tunnels. Concentrating all her effort for a few seconds her aura began to glow brighter and brighter until it was as bright as daylight banishing the darkness around her. She then took of down the tunnel at a slower and much more careful speed than normal until she had Lorenzo in her sights ready to let fly with a blast of light.

Merge Trois (PL 10 NPC, Tier 1)
Tiffany Korta replied to Tiffany Korta's topic in Archived Characters
Ah don't sweat it, better to get this right. Nicki is meant to be the main character, I just left in the second slot because a) I'm lazy b)I thought people (well me at least) would mostly be using Merge. So that's my bad. So just to check the summoned must be less than the original character? So I either reduce Merge down a PL 9, or raise Nicki up to a PL11. -
Conference Room “That I don’t know, I suspect that they have other plans in mind. I not a creature of politics I’m paid to deliver you into your custody. Though I won’t deliver you into direct harm if I can, though I suspect you are more than capable of looking after yourself.†She gave a broad smile. “But now I think we should make progress to Soo-Tine.†Engine Room Suddenly all around Synth the displays lit up with a series of graphics and information. Even though she couldn’t understand most of information it was obvious that the craft was powering its engine’s to leave the Earth and go far beyond that.

“You probably know more about him than I do, Mr White, but I suspect he wouldn’t put himself into a position where he would become weaker. It’s ironic that that’s the exact circumstances that lead to my birth.†She gave a grim little smile “But I suspect you see thing much the same way, you obviously drawn to people of power. So which are you a prisoner of circumstance like Nora or a willing participant like Stoneheart?†She wandered around the room try to look as innocent as possible, all the will looking at Mr White’s victims for a way to free them from there bounds.

Merge Trois (PL 10 NPC, Tier 1)
Tiffany Korta replied to Tiffany Korta's topic in Archived Characters
Okay as it's only a minor change to Merge herself and none to Camera I decided to repost them all up here, I hope that's not a problem. -
Yeah I thought the name might cause a few problems :? . The array has the bulk of my Flight powers which has the glowy aura effect. But if that's not good enough I'll just use my light Array.
-
k, I'm going to use an Extra Effort to stunt Environmental Control (Light), if I can I'll go off of my Might Array which gives me a 40ft radius of pure daylight. A Move action for 100 ft, then a burst of light attack 1d20+8=26, that's a DC 23. (if that's all possible) Can you give me a rough idea of what YB see's.

That's sound more like the idea I had in mind, I'll rejig the character and post up the new version. Is it okay to just replace the content or should I resubmit? -

She wasn’t totally surprised by their statements; Giselle had shown a similar ability to detect her Undead status. She had hoped that they wouldn’t pick up on it but now they did she calming improvised an excuse. “This snivelling idiot he doesn’t have the balls to kill anyone. No some of this cities heroes tried to stop me reclaiming our dear Harold. And I of cause dealt with them. Still at least it gave this creature.†She gestured toward Penitent “Something to eat, I think he’s taken quite a shine to me.†She gave her best evil chuckle.

She had dim memories of conflicts with the humans overthrowing the serpent people long ago. She wasn’t sure if it was from the studies that some of her past lives had made, some of a more arcane nature, or that the the spirit had somehow been there in some form. At time like this she suspected that the Spirit of Justice was part of a much greater, and older, spirit than she could possibly imagine. “You know your history, you much realise how much people gave up to overthrow those chains. The rein of Lemuria has passed it’s time has gone. But there noting to say that we couldn’t try to live together in peace as equals. Isn’t that why people are fighting and dying in this war?†He was a zealot and was probably too far gone to listen to reason, but she had to at least try and reach him.

Lucy stayed quiet, except to politely refuse a drink, whilst “Anette†started to question the family. She wasn’t sure how good Starlight was at this kind of thing but she was there as support if needed. Instead of leading the questions she concentrated instead on the family body language noting how they were reacted to the questions. In the past she had found could be as useful, if not sometime more, than what they actually said. It wouldn’t lead them to the false Penitent but it would help her see if they were on the right track.

Whilst all the flying around helping people was fun and all Agnes was intently aware that she had other gift she could use to aid people. She couldn’t help everyone, healing tended to wear her out, but careful controlled use could help people in the most dire of need. So once or twice a month she would visit a hospital, either back home or here in Freedom City, and find those in the direst of need. She didn’t do it practically for the fame or attention; it was just something she felt she should do, so she tended to go incognito. Today she was wearing a pair of cheap jeans she had picked up that morning from Camden Market a dark blue hoodie with a 4 embossed on it and a pair of old comfortable Converse. Amazed at the sheer number of people crammed into the hospital she wandered round a little trying to find out exactly what was going one. When someone in front of her collapsed acting on instinct she grabbed hold of them a subtle grow to her hand as she applied her healing powers.

Sleipnir’s Conference Room Commander Lavender gave laugh and banged the conference table so hard as to cause Starlight’s "escort" to jump. “You are just as sharp as the Holo-Vids make you out to be, no wonder my Gene-Mother choose to side with you. You’re right, it seems the Lor were in this system on other matters and detected the Tine craft leaving. And the Lor are very protective of systems under there protectorate status. There are blockading Soo-Tine system until the truth can be determined, hence the Tine being so keen on bring you to help them determine the truth." she gave a little smile "And I like to think of myself as a Bounty Hunter rather than a Mercenary; I won’t get my crew involved in a war. Stop one perhaps but no more than that."
-
Sleipnir’s Engineering The main display changed to a schematic of the ship despite its size the actual crew space was quite small. Most of the size was taken up with massive amounts of equipment to propel the ship through interstellar space. “The Sleipnir is currently in the process of reaching orbit, it current course is to the Soo-Tine system. Transit time is an estimated 21.3 hours. The Sleipnir has a crew of 12 plus currently the alien Starlight…Scanning…Error internal sensors show an additional alien. Shall I inform the Commander?â€
