“Well it has been a while for… Wait did you say something?†There was something about the picture, had it moved? Wait was it following her around? She was actually surprised how calm she was with all this weirdness floating around her. Maybe this existence was getting to her it all sounded stupid out load, maybe a second opinion wouldn’t hurt. But she couldn’t spook the old man. “I’m sorry to disturb you again Monsieur, could I bother you for a moment a trivial question for one of your talents. It just I’m curious about the painter of this ‘Bloody Nora’, there skill must have been exquisite its almost as if it follow’s you gaze around the room.†Well mine at least. “I’m not an expert but it speaks to me.â€

Revenant stood over the strange arrivals happily wiggling her toes in her still attached boots. “Well I guess we know what the marking means. These… two seem to be okay, and ones see-thru. Well that’s new!†She looked down at the twins and smiled at them. “Well then. I’m guessing you’re not on the Conquering Worms payroll.†She squatted down to around there eye level. Giving her friendliest cheery smile she addressed them directly. “Hello there. Would you like to tell us who you are and why you’re down here? Don’t worry we’re the good guys.†She beamed.

Lucy stood there and folded her arms over her chest. “You obviously want the power for your own selfish needs. That’s probably why the box won’t let you open it.†“So you won’t assist me?†“No.†“Watch out Revenant. “For the first time Lucy noticed that Kapalini couldn’t enter the shop, as if stopped by some kind of barrier. “And you’re poor Yakshini; she can’t enter as she’s a spirit in the shape of a woman. And no spirit can’t enter unless I allow it. As for you…†A burst of black fire shot out towards Revenant.

Poor boy Lucy couldn’t help to smile at them both looking dejected at the stains on their capes, feeling extra chuffed about her new sturdy boots. She was feeling extra confident about the boots survival; it wasn’t to end up like the sun dress all over again… Enough of my recent fashion faux pas. Time to go. Letting out an unneeded breath she gathered herself together ready to step again into possible danger. “Well no time like the present. Let’s go.†With that she began to stroll purposely down this new tunnel.

The afternoon had gone well, already they had consumed a bottle of wine and were well on the way to another. “So explain this to me again.†Asked Lucy Rhonda rolled her eyes in mock frustration “It’s a standard psyche test. They use them all over the place, I’ve seen then use in TV interviews and even interviews. Meant to show you mental sense.†“So it to see if I’m a good girl or not?†she laughed “I guess I’m in. Shoot.†At that point Yolanda, Rhonda girlfriend came in sitting on her lap and exchanging quite a passionate kiss. Lucy couldn’t help but smile. “You sure you cool with this?†Rhonda asked after they’d finished. “You know with you being…†“From the 1920’s, not every Flapper was just interested in the Charleston and bathtub gin. And is that a question.†“No. Are you ready? And no that’s not a question.†Yolanda stood up, brushing Rhonda tenderly on the cheek. “The questions huh. I guess Lucy’s staying to supper.†She grinned broadly at Lucy “Don’t worry I’ll make it extra spicy.†Rhonda shot Lucy a look and open the sheet with the questions. “1. Where are you from?†“The past?†Rhonda shot her a black look “Okay I’m from Freedom City.†“2. How would you physically describe yourself?†“What are those pale people, dressed all in black? Run that shop you took me to?†“You mean Goth’s?†“Yup that’s the one.†“3. Do you have any distinguishing speech characteristics or recurring mannerisms?†“Do I?†“No wait this is you’re questionnaire, I’m not going to do the work for you.†“So that’s a no then?†“You’re incorrigible. Next question then.†“4. What’s your motivation?†“To help people. More wine?†“Yes very cleaver. No right to the top.†Rhoda took a very large slip “Look you’ve driven me to drink. Right next question.†“5. What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?†“I regenerate, I not need to eat or sleep. Oh and I don’t get drunk…†“Okay right. Hey you didn’t tell me didn’t get drunk. Does that mean you remember everything that happened last time,†she looked horrified. “No, bad memory is my character flaw.†She lied flawlessly. “6. What do you love? What do you hate?†Yolanda strolled back in from the kitchen “You asking all these questions?†she poured a glass of wine “Yolanda please this is serious. Well fairly serious.†“Bollywood and Goth boots and well the whole 21st Century.†Lucy smiled broadly “As for what I hate the normal stuff, injustice, hate and people trying to bully others.†“7. How would you describe your emotional state?†“Subtle isn’t it?†“Hey sometimes the direct approach works best.†“I’ll give you that. Then optimistic.†“8. What do you fear the most?†Lucy looked thoughtful for the moment “I don’t really fear anything, except maybe failure.†“9. What is your greatest ambition?†“I’d like to return to my former career.†“What did you use to do?†“I was a lawyer.†“Well nobody perfect…†Yolanda ducked back into the kitchen avoiding a deftly thrown plush cushion. “10. How do you feel about the state of the world and your place in it?†“Well it’s not perfect, but everything seems so wonderful. You don’t know exactly what you’ve got.†“11. Do you have any prejudices? How do you get on with others?†Lucy didn’t say anything, just looked from Rhonda to Yolanda and back until she got the hint. Rhoda looked a little guilty and wrote something down on the sheet. “12. Where do you loyalties lie? In what order?†“But I’m sort of freelance. I don’t know my friends?†“Aww that sweet, and good enough for me.†Yolanda wandered back over and a read the sheet over Rhonda’s shoulder. “Oh can I ask this one. Do you have a lover?†Lucy sighed “No you know I’m single.†“Well why not? What about that man you were telling us about? That Frenchman.†“No! Well he’s sweet but he’s about half my age!†“Lucy, sweetie, you’re over 110†Lucy shrugged “Well he seems older.†“What about those you meet, you know the one we saw on TV.†“What Heavy Metal?†“Ewww no. I meant the girls.†“Look they were lovely and everything. But we fighting for our lives and trying not to die from radiation.†“So that’s not a no then?†“Yolanda please. Rhonda next question.†“13, no 14. Do you have family? Oh yeah sorry Lucy.†Yolanda gave Lucy a kiss on the head. “It’s okay Lucy, were your family now.†She looked at the bottle “More wine I think.†“15. How would people closest to you describe you? No it’s okay I’ve got this.†Lucy made a quick grab for the sheet and read Rhonda’s word. “That’s sweet Rhonda. Thanks.†“The sheet please. Okay 16. Are you a role model?†“I don’t think so. It would be nice one day…†“17. How spiritual are you?†“Still not sure. Have I told you I meet a Hindu god? Well he said he was.†Rhonda rolled her eyes “Yes you did. When do we get to meet Kapalini?†“Baby steps Rhonda. You might be a bit too much for her at the moment.†“18. Are you part of a team?†“Yeah have you met any of the League?†“Yolanda please!†“Sorry, I was just coming to say supper almost ready. So have you?†Lucy just laughed “No, not yet. “ “19. How do you feel about the place of metahumans and aliens on Earth?†“Well this one better get to the dinner table.†Rhonda shot Yolanda a dark look. “Almost done dear. Lucy?†“Oh right. I was enjoying the stage show. Um, the good goods and the bad are bad. At least it seems to balance out.†“Last question dear, then we eat. 20. If you could give the past you a word of advice what would it be?†“Duck! Now let’s eat.â€

Despite the rather ghastly nature of the picture the name of the picture made her smile “My father use to use that phrase all the time when I was young. My mum always use to chastise him…†her features took a faraway look “But occasionally they give each other that look, as though the word had a darker meaning. The kind of look that kids weren’t meant to understand…†Her face darkened. “Then there was that game when I was you. It had a rhyme, Bloody Nora, you better run, Bloody Nora, If she picks you!. I think, add poetry to the things I’m not good at.â€

Lucy glared at the man, but didn’t say anything. The villainous monologue was a cliché even in her time, but useful never the less. “When Queen MÄyÄdevÄ« was pregnant with Siddhattha, the future Buddah, she rested in the shade of a Asoka tree where the Buddha was born from her side. From that tree this box was made.†A manic gleam was in his eyes “or so the legend goes. Even if not true the box has potential unlimited power.†A grim smile “For me to open the box would be certain death. And it resists all magical means. But you, you can open the box and resist it’s effects. And if not…†he let the threat hang in the air.

From the back of the store strode a South Asian of indeterminate age. Sharply dressed in Nehru jacket he looked like any number of businessmen she had seen in the last couple of weeks. He did carry himself with a confidence that suggested he was use to his order being carried out. “The box I’m talking about of cause. Though I’m sure you’re a charming young lady Ms. Harker. Word getting around in a community such as ours.†He stepped closer so he has face to face to Lucy. “Have you noticed that the box resists you? My research suggests the results of opening the box are even worst. Possibly terminal.†His eyed glowed “But do you know what power this box possesses? What this box is?â€

She gave him a wide smile, blushing a little at his Gallic charms. He was a smooth little charmer; either that or he was trying to hide something… You're getting paranoid Lucy, can’t an old man just enjoy your company? “I’m sorry where are my manners. I’m Lucy Harker Monsieur deSaens. I apologize for my earlier bluntness, it’s been…†She stopped as if adding up “A very long time since I’ve been out socially.†She looked up at the painting he had steered her towards. “It’s very nice.†She felt that wasn’t enough “Though I’m not much of an expert on art I’m afraid. Do you paint yourself?â€

Revenant gave a sly smile “Rat’s don’t bother me, and I’d like to see a gator try and chew on me. I’d probably give it indigestion.†She looked at her boots, who seemed to have been surviving quite well; maybe they’ll survive this little encounter. Still they still had to find this guy. “Yeah the side tunnel seems a better bet. I’m no expert but it seems to funnel people towards him, so we better be careful.†She shrugged “Well a little more careful than we have been so far.†She had a quick look around she wasn’t sure but something seemed a little off, but she just couldn’t place it…

She turned and looked up at the man fixing him a confused look with her coal black eyes. Her eyes damn it; she had meant to buy those contacts but had been those boots… “Oh I’m sorry sir. “ she rummaged in her purse and slipped on her borrowed sunglasses. To calm her nerves she down the glass of wine in one gulp, it tasting to her like slightly flavoured water. “I’m sorry to seems a philistine, but all I see her are people. A lot of whom I know.†Fully recovered she gave a friendly smile “I hope I don’t offend your artistic senses.â€

Lucy stood uncomfortable and a little unconscious in the little black dress that had cost most of this month’s wages. After a month sleeping rough she made sure she spent time helping those who weren’t as lucky as her. Especially as she was aware that unlike them she didn’t feel hungry or the cold or the need for sleep. At the shelter she had met Francis taking photo of those helped by the nuns; she had been friendly and helpful to him but thought nothing more about it. So she was completely surprised when he personally gave an invitation to this gathering. Though last time she had been to a gathering color photography was rare and new and everyone was drinking bathtub gin…

She carefully stepped over the threshold into the darkened shop, she glanced around seeing that all the shelves were mostly empty, the only features of the store being the box itself and some kind of sculpture in the corner. Well that later first the box. The box almost hummed as she got near it, examining the intricate carving, some kind of noble woman she’d guessed, feeling some trepidation at the idea of touching the box. Unseen behind her Kapalini stopped confused unable to cross the threshold. “Magnificent isn’t it.†Said a voice from the back of the store.

Lucy continued on down the sewer tunnel for a few more minutes, lost in her own thoughts. Then a change in the ambient sounds bought her back to the present. She chastised herself for not paying attention, a sure way of getting them all in trouble. The flow of water had changed suggesting that ahead of them another tunnel seems to join onto the main passage they were travelling down. The flow of water She turned, remembering to lower the torch and addressed the rest of them. “Up ahead it looks like another tunnel, any idea which way we go?â€

Recruiting: Dimensional anomolies and monster hunting
Tiffany Korta replied to angrydurf's topic in Archives
I'm not quite as handy as Supercape, but if you'll have me I'd like to volunteer Revenant. -
After some thought I've decided to go in a direction that just happens to be in line with Supercapes idea's. I'm going to cut it down for simplicity but here's the background bit of the history.
-
Beyond the door was a rather old looking store, well old compared to the modern glass and plastic modern stores to her this was the kind of store she remembered for her youth. But that wasn’t what draw her attention, on the counter ahead of her was an intercity carved wooden box. The wood was slightly red carved with intricate detail in that distinctive Indian style. And it seemed to hum with power, a lot of power. “That it isn’t it, the treasure you gave away. What is it exactly?†Here voice had that reverent tone “The Janma Kosa.â€

Any thoughts of further questions were cut short by a quick hose down and a scrub by the team of decontamination officers. So this is the future! Cleaner than she’d been in day’s and safe from whatever harm the radiation could do, she stood and watched feeling a little proud with herself as Heavy Metal was lowered down to them. “That was great, thank you.†She gave a friendly smile at the luckless operator. She then shot the other two heroes a look. “So, exactly what should we do with him now? This is actually my first villain…â€

Revenant carefully pick through the flotsam and jetsam of the sewer tunnel. Taking the King of Suits word to heart she bit down on any comments and concentrated on the sound of the tunnel. Nothing except their own footsteps, and the sound of rats scurrying in the walls. She was still blown away that they were all so use to being the hero, whilst she was still struggling to get a handle on all that this entailed. But she was in the lead and didn’t want either of them to get hurt so she pretended to know exactly what she was doing.

Yeah I meant rebellion as "This is wrong it needs to be changed" rather than "This sucks tear it all down." And I think quick change is a better than morph and less of a pain.

My best is just shy of your roll so we don't see you.

It large glass windows never showed any good, and she could never remember them broken despite a lot of kid with stones. It was never open and she never knew what is sold. But yet the old store looked just how it did all those years ago. “The item we seek is in this building.†Kapalini’s voice was a matter of fact. Lucy look thoughtful “Yes, but we can’t break in it’s…†Kapalini walked up to the door and swept her hand, there was an audible click. “But the owner seems to have left the door unlocked†at this she actually smiled. As she stood there staring at the shop, the ten year old in her was daring her to enter the place.
-
It didn’t take long for Revenant to make up her mind. “Okay let go Kapalini.†Without saying a word Kapalini swept past and started walking down the street. Wordlessly Revenant fell into step following the strange creature down the streets of the West End. She wasn’t sure who lived in the area now, but when she was growing up it was where most of the Eastern Europeans lived. She smiled at the thought she could still swear in half a dozen European languages. And a small part of her childhood still stood the shop.
