GM Post The captain nodded in understanding. "I see... Also, you don't have to worry about the march to the mansion. If you start feeling tired or in pain, we could give you a hand or a shoulder. That way, you won't have to put too much stress into your foot, at least." One of the sailors was approaching, holding a first aid kit, but the captain waved him off. "It's okay, Hobson. She says she doesn't need any medical aid at the moment." Hobson looked at Carmen's wound, raising an eyebrow. "But Captain!? look at the size of that hole! It looks like someone shoved a rod in there!" "Well, it appears as if it's been cauterized already." "You got that right." Hobson scoffed. "It looks so messy, I doubt any bacteria could survive in there." "Hobson..." The Captain said, feeling her patience wearing off. "Right, right, she doesn't want any medical aid. Fine." Hobson left with a sour look on his face. Turning back, he said to Carmen "If you change your mind, make sure to let me know. I'll fix your wound up in no time."

No good! Another trap... and from the sounds of it, I may not want to stay here for too long... Net Fly thought, as he frantically searched for a way out. Looking at the ceiling, he smirked from inside his mask as he thought Well... if I plan on going up anyways, there's no reason to make things more complicated than they have to be. Let's just hope that no one who I wouldn't want to injure is directly above me. Powering up, both of his hands were surrounded by sonic energy. Swiftly, he brought them together, pointing upwards, and unleashed a sonic blast that blew a hole on the ceiling. Judging it to be large enough to accomodate him, Net Fly flew right through the opening, and onto the upper floor. From there, he tried inspecting the surroundings, while keeping his hands powered up, in case he needed them. At least, I don't think I heard hurting anyone, so that's a relief.

Net Fly will use Sonic Blasts to open a hole in the ceiling. DC 26 Toughness If he doesn't open a hole on the first try, he will surge to try again. If he opens a hole, he will attempt to escape to the upper floor by flying

"Hmmmm... I understand..." Hronos commented. "The Stopwatch devices sound rather dangerous, perhaps more than I could have ever imagined, if their effect on a living being can be so grave." Thinking a bit more about the rest of the information, Hronos couldn't help but feel that he was left in the dark. "... Collapse... I do not believe I have heard that name... if what you describe that he can do is true, then there is no doubt that he is a formidable entity, but that alone is not enough to brand him a threat... how are you certain that he IS an actual threat? Have you encountered either him or someone closely associated with him who could verify such claims? And what else do you know about that other organization? Do you know of a reliable method of establishing contact with them? Perhaps, they could divulge us with more information about Collapse and the Stopwatches... unless you have already talked to them and they have given you every information they are willing to share."

GM Post "... I see..." the captain remarked, as she gestured at one of the crew to search the bag. Noticing her leg, and remembering their time in the ship, on their way to the Riverrock Island, she let a laugh escape her as she remarked "Well, I'm not sure if your bravery is well-founded, or if you're just plain suicidal, especially considering the condition of your leg, but what I AM sure is that you have our collective gratitude. Me and the boys were gonna wait for the storm to pass and the sun to rise, before heading for the mansion, but seeing as you made your way here unhar-..." noticing the unattended wound on Carmen's shoulder, she corrected herself "-well, relatively unharmed, that is, I think it would be safe to say that we stand more than a fair chance of making it to the mansion in one piece, and that we'd be fools not to take it." "Well, Captain, this one's full of guns. Riffles and cartidges." Seeing as it contained riffles, she said, breathing a sigh of relief. "I assume these are for us? Good to know. We have some weapons of our own, but we were cutting it dangerously close as it is, and it wouldn't harm us to have some back up, in case things go south." To the sailors, she turned and shouted "Hear that? Everyone grab two to three riffles, and make sure they are loaded. If you find yourselves running out of ammo in the midst of combat, don't bother reloading, discard the riffle and pick a replacement." As most the crew went on further arming themselves, the captain addressed Carmen again. "Don't worry, dear. Rest as long as you need. We took a few first aid kits here, in order to tend to some of our wounded." She gestured towards the back of the storehouse, where two sailors had bandaged hands and feet, and one more was wrapped in a bed, sweating profusely. "We'll see to your wound, and then let you catch your breath. After that, we're heading out when you're ready. How does that sound?"

GM Post For a while, no sound would come, and even if it did, it was promptly drowned out by the sound of hails smashing in the roof of the storehouse. After a while though, a voice was heard. "Who... who is it? Are you from the mansion?" It went. Slowly, some more light was shed through the cracks. "Captain! It's a human! A woman, it appears." The voice confirmed. "...Yes, Franken, I had my suspicions that the voice belonged to a human woman, what with sounding exactly like someone who is human and female would sound, if they spake English. I mean, what else could she possibly be?" The Captain responded, somewhat annoyed. "... One of those... monsters?" the man who went by Franken said, uncertainly. "One of those monsters?..." The Captain parroted. Tsk-ing, the Captain presumably rubbed her temples, before asking Franken "Tom, just... how in hell's name do you expect one of those monsters to be able to reproduce the vocal range of a human woman?" Thinking it a bit, Tom Franken admited "... eh, I dunno... I certainly wasn't expecting facing any sort of monster whatsoever, so your guess is as good as mine, Captain." More silence followed. The Captain decided to break it. "... Just open the damn door, Tom." her tone suggested that she had to admit, even he could have a point from time to time. "Yes, ma'am." he responded, ushering Carmen inside the storehouse, while three more sailors were by his side, covering him with their rifles.

For a moment, Net Fly lost his balance, and almost slipped. Thankfully, he had the pressence of mind to act swiftly and kick off the wall to his side, gainning enough momentum to not fall backwards, and raise himself from the ground a few inches, just enough to switch gears and start floating. Phew. That was a close one. He remarked to himself. I guess that rules out running inside the building. I can't afford to be extra careful, but I'm not about to run into a fire any more than I have to, and that goes for running on top of sliding or collapsible floors as well. Looking back, he noticed how smoothly the stairs had flattened. There's no way the fire could cause THAT! He gritted his teeth. And that hole that opened... a trap? For whom? He looked worryingly on top of him, towards the ceiling. Getting crushed under the debris won't be much fun, either, but there's not much I can do about that. Well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it... Trap or no trap, innocents might still be trapped in here, and I'd rather not take that chance. Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes and ears open, then. And with that, he resumed searching the building for survivors.

"Indeed, that is correct, Elizabeth Steed." Hronos replied. "That dinosaur creature was part of the first incident I had with this fragment. It was not until much later that I realised that the effects of the fragment were localized, affecting a certain spherical area centered on the fragement itself. The man who was using it at the time, John Smith, was in the process of attempting to alter the flow of history itself. Unfortunately for him, his endeavors proved rather pointless, as despite his better efforts, no permanent change in the time stream occured. His actions DID endanger the present time, though, by directly summoning creatures and people ill-equiped to properly deal with the modern era of this planet, such as the aformentioned dinosaur, or a group of warriors from the past of the Earthen country known as Spain. In the end, John Smith left me with no other choice, but to stop him by force, and deliver him to the authorities of Freedom City."

No sooner had Net Fly arrived and spotted the building that was on fire, he immediately dashed forward, entering the building, and climbing its stairs. Starting with the upper floors, he went through door after door, making sure to avoid close contact with any flames, alternating between flying and running where appropriate, and checking for survivors and making sure to escort them outside. Whenever he was faced with debris that stood in his way and prevented him, the young hero would activate his blue gloves, and would unleash sonic blasts from his hands, in order to force the debris away. I hope no one is seriously hurt. Net Fly thought to himself, while doing all these, and refrained from speaking as much as possible, lest he accidentally swallowed or breathed smoke. The last thing the young heroes needed, he realised, was to add another victim that needed rescue.

"..." For a long time, Hronos remained unmoving. What had occured right now... there was no mistaking it. He was certain. When he finally arrived at a conclusion, he decided it was time to address everyone in the plane. "You have my greetings, Elizabeth Steed. I apologize for not greeting you earlier, but I am affraid that I have some worrying news, that I believe all of you should be made aware of." When he had everyone's attention, Hronos spake. "That feeling of Deja Vu, as you called it, that you experienced a few moments ago... was not a feeling. Time was forcibly rewritten, in such a way, that caused a localised group of events to occur anew. That is to say, we all experienced the exact same events that happened when the fragment started glowing, two times in a row. The Essence of Time shields me from such effects, but I suspect that none of you has an accurate recolection of the event taking place. Hmmm... This is highly peculiar..." Hronos went on. "I am certain the fragment I possess was the cause, but for as long as I have held the fragment, it never once acted upon itself... Could this crystal you possess be causing some form of reaction with the shard?"

GM Post At once the beasts recoiled at the sight of the glowing tattoo, the fireworks Carmen exuded, and the imposing image of the ferocious Cantos Cane. But after the initial shock, they resumed positions, keeping an intent eye at Carmen all the while. The spectacle hadn't deterred them one bit, but at least, it hadn't provoked them into action either. "Heeheeheeheeee!... Well, master, that certainly seemed to accomplish... something" Tazel spat. Carmen continued her journey, and thirteen minutes later, she managed to leave the forest behind her and reach the pier. The S.S. Gadelica was stationed there, seemingly abandoned, barring the occasional pterodactilus-looking demon flying over the ship, almost like a vulture. The small storehouse next to the pier was another story altogether, though. It appeared occupied and barricaded, a few rays of light escaping from the chasms betraying activity.

GM Post The hail continued to fall, and the wind blowed with rage, causing many of the trees to distort their shape and bend violently. The path was clear, but due to the darkened sky and the shifting trees, visibility was quite limited. As soon as Carmen stepped out, she immediately became aware of a magic scent in the air. This was strong magic, arcane magic making its workings. She was aware that a spell originating from somewhere within the island was responsible for creating the hailstorm, which acted as a space distorting barrier, keeping everything within its area of influence from escaping, and everything without from infiltrating it. Carmen recalled that the wayfrom the beach to the manor had taken about half an hour during the tour. Perhaps if she rushed, she could halve or even third that amount of time. Of course, that may prove to be a difficult task to achieve, especially given that she wasn't alone; even through the low visibility, Carmen had become aware that the place was teeming in demonic creatures that looked like feral animals. Charcoal-Black Wolves, Giant Spiders, human-shaped Eagles... even so, though, the creatures didn't appear to make a move at Carmen. But they watched her intently, as if waiting for their prey to make one wrong move, to loosen its guard...
-
Carmen recognizes that the hailstorm is a magical conjuration. She is unable to trace its source, but she is definitely certain that it originated from somewhere in this island. The hailstorm acts as a seperating barrier, effectively cutting off the island and its surroundings from the rest of the world. As it is magical in nature, the hailstorm won't expire until it stops being cast. While that is true, no one can enter or leave the hailstorm, at least, not under normal circumstances.
-
As soon as she steps out, Carmen senses magic is afoot, and needs to roll a Knowledge[Arcane Lore] check.

GM Post "Even if you deal with such situations on a frequent basis, I'm still sorry to have to ask you to go on this rescue mission on your own, miss Canto." Alex said, as Carmen took charge of the situation. Billy, who had only just made it there, gave Carmen a set of clothes he found in her bag, and her splint. "As soon as you're ready, we'll go to the living room, in order to give you the things you've asked." Alex led Carmen to another room in the floor, in order for her to change clothes, and when she got out, they all went to the living room. There, Alex provided her with a radio and a flashlight, as well as a bag with three rifles. "Here you go, miss Canto. I've packed some extra rifles. The crew may not be armed, and I'm guessing it would be more prudent to have at least two more helping hands on your trip back. Here's the radio that you requested, but I would advise caution; we don't know the exact range that our communications still work, thanks to the weather. Please maintain contact at all times, so that we keep aware of your position." Billy watched impatiently. "Good luck, miss Carmen." He said to the woman. The other staff observed the situation curiously, seemingly unsure as to why only one woman, the guest, was being sent on this mission, but ultimately trusting Alex's judgement. Outside, the hailstorm raged still.
-
GM Post "Uh... Right!" Billy replied, and he scooted off to Carmen's bedroom. Four of the villa staff that were present went to accompany Billy, for safety, under Alex's command. "No one goes anywhere alone, unless I say so. At all times, move on groups of no less than four people, understand!" he barked at the other servants. "This is serious, we can't afford to lose even one person." "Ummm... sir Movida?" "WHAT IS IT NOW?" "What should we do about lord Phlegethon's... I mean..." "..." This had given pause to the valet. He looked at the body of Acheron, bathed on its own blood, and he sighed. "... it pains me to say so, but just throw a bedsheet on it and leave it there. At least until we can breath a fress air from these monsters, we can't afford to concern ourselves with anyone but the living. Afterwards, we will... just... just put a bedsheet on him, will ya?" "Right away." After they were done, Alex dismissed the last 5 people who were with him and Carmen. Turning to Carmen, he shook his head. "... I really don't know what to say, miss Canto. You were the one who was able to converse with the demons, and that makes you more knowledgeable on their motivations than I am, other than the fact that they wanted to kill us all. As far as refuges go, the dinning room is as good as any, since it has access to the kitchen and the cellar." "As for shortcuts, I'm afraid there's none. As I had said, when you arrived, no vehicles operate in this island, and while the path does have a few twists and turns, the truth of the matter is that the forests that surround it are pretty thick, and make it easy to get lost."
-
Hronos listened to Velocity attentively. "Ah, I recall. the interview. Back then, I had only recently awakened to this society, and I was largely unaware of important things regarding this civilization, such as its ecosystem and its past, and miss Jessica Jaggers was kind enough to help me acclimate. It was, therefore, my obligation to return the favor and have myself be interviewed by her." He explained. After Velocity finished, the Mechanodynamis said "Ah, I understand, and I appreciate your forthcomingness on this issue... It would appear that we both have quite a story to tell. Perhaps, if we were to compare our findings, we would be able to percieve the situation regarding these artifacts with better clarity?" He pondered, when Robert entered. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Lord Harrow." Hronos introduced himself, but before he could say any more, he witnessed Robert's abrupt behavior. "... Your friend..." he noted to Velocity. "He appears weakened and sick. Also, I am not entirely sure so please correct me if I am wrong, but I get the impression that he can feel the artifact that I hold, and that it is because of THAT that he feels ill. Am I correct in my assumption?"
-
GM Post Everyone murmured at the mention of Acheron's death, a few of the staff going into the room to verify this. "... I'm... I..." Alex tried to say. Taking a deep breath, he managed to regain his composure. "... I'm sorry for worrying you, miss Canto. No, I'm alright... Master Phlegethon... I grew up alongside George, ever since his family came to Freedom City. To me, he was more of a younger brother, rather than an employer, and to see him... before my eyes... it's unreal..." Alex reminished. Everyone else present remained silent. "... Anyways, the demon, yes. When he saw you gone, he got up and tried to attack me. I blasted his damned mug off the face of the planet, just like you told me to. To be perfectly frank, though, even if you had instructed me to try and apprehend him alive, I don't think I would have made the effort-no, I'm certain I wouldn't have." The other servants could only nod in approval. "At any rate, took you guys long enough to come. What took you so long?" Alex asked the servants, who had arrived as back up. One of them was tending to the fallen Alvaro, who was knocked unconscious. "I'm sorry, sir Movida. We were attacked by a swarm of these creatures." "Anyone injured?" "No, we managed to fight them off without sustaining any casualties." "Just how did they manage to get in?" "No idea. Hopefully, none will anymore." the staff chattered, now that the dust had properly settled. Alex asked one of them. "And what about the mainland? Did you ask for help evacuating this island?" "Aaaah, sorry, sir. The storm seems to be interfering with our communications' range. We can't seem to reach Freedom City, at all." "That's... more than a little worrysome... we may be trapped here for god knows how mu-..." "... and it gets worse, sir Movida." "-... Worse?" "We recieved an s.o.s. from the S.S.Gadelica. It seems that, due to the hailstorm, they were unable to go too far in the sea, before having to make a turn around and return here for an emergency docking." "...and the crew are out there, in the middle of this storm, where more of these creatures could attack them at a moment's notice?" "That's the gist of it, it appears." "... Well... that's just..." Alex cursed.

Velocity recalls an interview from the Daily Word, in which the reporter, Jessica Jaggers, and Hronos, talked about who he was and why he was in Freedom City. Who he is: Hronos explained that he was a Mechanodynamis, an ancient mechanical being, one of five that were created almost alongside the universe itself, and was given Time, one of the five essenses that made up the world, the others being Knowledge, Life, Death, and Spirit. As Holder of Time, Hronos feels it is his duty to ensure that he protects the integrity of the Time/Space Continuum. Why he is in FC: During the aftermath of a battle, billions of years ago, Hronos was critically damaged, and was thrust towards the location that Earth would eventually form. Trapped under its crust, and due to the extensive damage, Hronos went offline and slept for billions of years, until recently, whereupon he woke up and dug his way out, towards the surface. He is functioning at greatly reduced capacity, and is unable to escape the Earth, so he has decided to do whatever he can to help where he is needed, until such a time comes that will allow him to fully reclaim his responsibilities.
