  1. "Now, now. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Subito. This is, after all, just a friendly competition between friends, so don't be expecting any hold-backs." Serge replied, as he took his position next to Subito. "You, aha, bet!" he enthusiastically agreed. "The winner also picks the movie, because, let's face it, pizza without movies is just bad form." Scanning the area ahead of them, he could see that the trees would hamper his movement even further, but the same would apply to Subito, unless he flew high above the trees. 'Oh, well. We do want to make this a fair race, after all.'
  2. Taking 20 on that check (assuming the facility can provide access to a database or some such) for a total of Knowledge 25
  3. "Heheheheheeeee." Serge laughed a maniacal laugh, as a deviously brilliant (Or so, he would claim) idea popped in his head. "Race you there?" he asked as he indicated the direction Subito plotted for them. "Come on, it'd be fun! We can go on three. Last one there buys the other one pizza. You know, on top of being a rotten egg and all." he said, as he started stretching and warming up. Looking around, Serge noticed that his feet were up to his knees, and he had to constantly raise his legs until the were out of the snow, in order to move any further. "The snow really impedes my movement, so I'm fairly sure it would prove to be an interesting match, even without a handicap. What do you think? Are you a bad enough dude to take me on this challenge?"
  4. "Gah!" Serge cried, as the slap in the back took his wind out. "Hey, thanks!" Serge replied at Kristin, before asking her "Hey, Kristin, how's your bruise? You seemed to get hit hard." "Yeouch!" Serge exclaimed, as soon as Subito put his hand on his burned shoulder. "Easy there, Subito. You know, I used that shoulder to absorb most of the impact from that blow earlier." he said, as he started rubbing it in order to relax the muscles. "I'm not sure why you feel the need to reassure me of my capabilities; I'm perfectly aware of them, and for the moment, I have no interest in impoving them, as opposed to my shortcomings, but thanks anyway." he said with a light laugh. "And what was all that back there? The whole 'you'll pay for this, you robot'? I mean, it's a trainning excerise, and the robots were only doing what we wanted them to do, namely, provide a challenge for our skills. There's no reason to get angry at them." he teased his buddy, as the memory of that particular moment of the battle came back to him.
  5. "Hey, thanks." Net-Fly smiled at the complement on a job well done. "Now... What do you say we get you down there." he said, as he descended slowly to the ground. As soon as he saw Marcus' feet touch the ground, he let go. Landing a few feet away, he all but knelt over from the fatigue, trying to take short breaths to compensate. 'Damn. Hehe, I really went all-out back there, didn't I?' he thought, as the soreness from his hands and back started to lessen a bit. "I think-huff, huff-I think we can jot this down as a mission success, everyone." He said, as he took his mask off to help him breath easier.
  6. Serge saw that El Heraldo's and Glow's attempts, unfortunately enough, didn't meet with success, as the Steeljacket remained mostly unharmed and still hovering. Thankfully Arcturus did a great job keeping the robot in check, as he had completely pinned it with his arms, so they still had time to take it down. As he got ready, Net-Fly shouted at Marcus "Hold it steady, senior! I won't hold back." Flying at ramming speed, the young hero wannabe charged his fists with sonic energy. As soon as he was in range, he let out a rapid barrage of blows that managed to tear the Steeljacket to pieces. A few nanoseconds later, Net Fly witnessed Arcturus had lost his hold of the now destroyed robot, and started falling. Not having enough time to get his breath, let alone gloat on a successful mission, Net Fly reached out and grabbed him as fast as he could. "Don't worry, Arcturus. I've got you." He reassured the senior.
  7. Surging to grab Arcturus, who is now falling. Taking 10 on Dex vs DC5 Check: 13-Success!
  8. Move Action to fly to Steeljacket II Standard Action to pummel it with Sonic Fists. Using All-Out Attack (+2 on Attack, -2 on Defence) 1d20+7 → [10,7] = (17) Autofire DC27 Toughness.
  9. "So, you have any friends outside the academy who know of your... special gifts, or is it only your family?" Serge asked Subito, as he stayed close. While he kept his eyes open for any sign of a cave, he still had little luck to spotting one. "I don't, well, at least, not as of yet. I mean, I do have a friend who I'm sure wouldn't mind knowing about my 'night shifts', as it were, but it's just that I haven't really gotten around to talking to him about it. Especially since I entered the Academy, we've barely kept in touch with each other. Hey, watch those twigs. Meh, anyways, it's not really such a big of a deal." Looking around, Serge tried to scan the area for any landmarks. "Well, Subiboss, d'you think we're getting any closer, or are we just running around in circles?"
  10. "Hmmm... I don't think there's any particular reason for that. At least, none that I'm aware of. I mean, you know my parents are divorced and I live with my mum and my stepdad. I did visit my pa during Christmas, and while we don't keep in touch like we used to, we still find a chance to talk. Hmmmm..." Pausing to think upon the matter a bit, Serge continued "I suppose that my mum technically doesn't know I'm moonlighting as a Superhero wannabe, and I don't talk about my family in order to better distinguish between my identities?... I mean, the only one outside the academy that knows who I am is Greg, my stepdad. He's really cool about the whole thing, and helps cover for me, actually..." Serge trailed off a bit, when he noticed Subito suddenly tensing. Looking to the sky, where his friend was looking, he saw the flight of crows, and inquired "...Hey, what is it?"
  11. Net Fly regained his footing just in time to see the punch coming his way. Not feeling confident in his ability to run around the robot and evade the hit, he instead opted to use one of the many techniques taught to them during class, he braced himself for the impact, using his hands to shield his face and direct the blow to the shoulder, in order to absorb the impact. The maneuver was effective, if only barely so, and despite the burning from the impact, Net Fly was unharmed. "Calm down, Heraldo! I'm alright." Serge shouts to his enraged friend, trying to pacify him. "It wasn't even a scratch." Taking a short step passing down from the robot's extended Arm, Net Fly says "I'm not sure I'll be able to say the same for the robot!" as he unleashes another barrage at the Steeljacket. This time, his footing was more sure, and his fists flew true; the majority of the punches hit the robot in both it's sides and on it's sternum, making it take a step back, and his final punch, by extending his body, flew straight to the robot's jaw, sending the Steeljacket flying. "Alright!" he exclaimed, as he witnessed the robot succumbing to his blows. Throwing his pointer finger up while turning around, Net Fly shouted to his allies. "One more to go, everyone! Don't let up!"
  12. Standing his ground, Net Fly Attacks Steeljacket I 1d20+5 → [4,5] = (9) And he fails, again. Spending a HP to reroll 1d20+5 → [9,5] = (14) Le sigh... No worries, however, as this time, he'll Surge and get another Standard action, in order to hit the accursed machinery that doth mocks him 1d20+5 → [2,5] = (7) No. Really. Plus, Fatigue from next round onwards. Yay. EDIT: Crap. The second did hit, with a 24(I forgot that the +10 applies on the dice roll, not the total. Seriously.) So, Sonic Fists has Autofire. The DC is 24 + 1 for every 2 points of Attack I beat the Steeljacket's defence(up to a max of +5), so... 24-15=9... DC28 Toughness EDIT 2: Also, in case it's needed(I wish), Sonic Fists has Knockback 2. EDIT 3: Since the Improved Roll destroyed the opponent, the GM ruled that my third attempt doesn't count. Ignore the Surge bit, then. I end my turn after the Standard Action Attack.
  13. Well... 1d20+5 → [14,5] = (19) As far as Toughness Saves go, I think that was a close one.
  14. Struggling to keep up with the energetic Subito, Serge trailed a bit behind, until he finally caught up with him "You know, one of this days I think I'm gonna need to borrow your personal trainer. I mean, when I have to use my... natural gifts to keep up with your running speed, you just know I'm letting myself go." Hearing Subito's remarks about their course, Serge nodded in agreement. "Fine by me. Lead the way then, oh fearless leader." he joked. The more off the main roads they went, the deeper Serge's feet sank into the snow. It was really no wonder he couldn't keep up; Serge hadn't had many opportunities to traverse such a difficult terrain.
  15. Giving this a thought, Serge replied "Like what? We already have everything we need in our backpacks; food, water, matches, hiking gear, flashlights, hell, I've even got a replacement flashlight inside my jacket's inner pocket, as well as replacement batteries, a few more foodbars, and an extra bottle of water, because you just know you're gonna lose those things when you need them the most. I din't bother with the extra hiking gear because, well... so yeah. Unless you forgot something, I think we are as ready as we can be to take on Mother Nature and everything she has to throw at us..." looking around, Serge said as if to no one in particular "... he said, vaguely expecting a nature-themed superpowered ecoterrorist or something to strike at an inopportune moment and ruin our trip. I mean, I know it's not Friday but schedules aren't kept as tightly during the holiday period as during the rest of the year."
  16. "The animals concern you? Really?" Serge asked his friend incredulously, before lowering his tone "You DO know that scaring them away is only a matter of throwing a sonic blast near their feet, right? After all" indicating his backpack, Serge chuckled "I've brought a spare change. Hehehe, you know what they say, never leave home without them." Now that he had started to get used to the cold, however, Serge lightened up considerably. Looking at the snow around them, he commented "I will admit, however, that this may not have been such a bad idea; the snow around here seems to have really settled in, in contrast with the campus." Digging his hand in the snow, Serge produced a sizeable chunk and exhibited it at Subito "I mean, look, you can really feel like you're gathering snow, to your heart's content!" he exclaimed, all the while throwing the ball upwards slightly. The gesture probably didn't have the effect he wished it had, as every time it landed on his hand, more snow fell to the ground. "Man... it's a pity Galanta and your cousin couldn't make it here. I'm sure they'd enjoy the snow, as well. Plus, those trees make for excellent coverage, should the forray inevitably devolves into a snow fight, which I think, from what you've told me, your sister would appreciate."
  17. I'm not sure how much accurate the information I've used is. Feel free to correct me, Arichamus, if it's not.
  18. The second round of the combat trainning commenced, and this time, Serge was more ready to enter the action. ignoring the flying robot that seemed to favor defense over offense, Net Fly concentrated on the other robot, as Glow attempted to telekinetically assault it. Seeing that she had little luck, he decided to pitch in; running straight to the grounded Steeljacket, Net Fly redied a barrage of fists, aiming for it's body. It came as a surprise to him that the attack once again missed it's mark, and then some; his fists flew past the robot, as the momentum carried Net Fly, causing him to lose his footing and slip. Crap... he thought, as he tried to regain his balance.
  19. Move action to get within Melee range with Steeljack #1 Standard action to use Sonic Fists... 1d20+5 → [4,5] = (9) So... yeah
  20. Stiffling a yawn, Serge stepped outside of the bus. As soon as he did so, a penetrating chill run from his hair through to his spine, making him almost curl, despite the fact that he was wearing two sets of woolen clothes. He didn't lose any time to exclaim "What the... it's freezing out here... " Not taking earmuffs was sooooo much a mistake. the boy thought, as his cheeks instantly became rosied from the cold. "I think I'm feeling cold in places I didn't even knew I had." he complained to his friend. "Remind me again, why was it such a bright idea to come here, in the woods, in the morning, in the middle of Winter, when we could be chilling more comfortably in the warmth and safety of the dorms, drinking hot cocoa and playing chess, or card games, or hell, even indoors basketball?" he asked the hispanic boy through gritted teeth; not that he had to make an effort.
  21. Initiative: 1d20+3 → [13,3] = (16)
  22. "Ehehe... Right you are, sir." Serge replied weakly. Trying to compose himself, he followed suit after Subito and Marcus. Putting his mask on again, Serge took the time to check his costume, make sure everything operated within parameters. While he hadn't recieved any damage during the fight, it was not uncommon for his suit to superheat after extensive use of the Sonic Blasts and Beams in short periods, especially considering the immense amount of sonic energy the suit constantly generates. By now the suit had completely cooled off. Checking his gloves, he could easily create sonic waves around his hands. His megaphone also seemed to work properly, and the various suit muscles held just fine. "Alright, then!" he exclaimed after finishing the check up. "I'm ready. What's next?"
  23. "Thanks, senior." Serge sheepishly said as he breathed a bit better, upon hearing Marcus' dismissal of his mistake, but he still felt awful about his rookie mistake. Not only that, Kristin's attempt to snap Serge out of it didn't help his unrest. "Kristin, please. Look, I appreciate that you try to steer me out of me being self-defeating, but there's something that you must realise. This is practice, true, but it's not about a game. What we do... is dangerous, not only to ourselves, but to everyone else as well. And while it's important to improve on our strengths, negleting or outright ignoring our weaknesses and shortcomings... is criminal." Looking downcast, Serge added "I don't know... maybe I AM overthinking this... I mean, I know noone is perfect and all, I know that you can't prepare for everything, it's just that... you CAN prepare for a lot of things, and if you can, why shouldn't you? Why shouldn't I acknowledge my failings and strive to be better? Why should anyone be content about what he can do... when he can become SO much more?"
  24. "Geez, well that was embarrasing..." Net Fly remarked, as he clutched his feet, catching his breath while crouched. Subito was right; most robots would be far more durable than this bunch. Still, even though... easy, the excercise was eye-opening. Glow had performed exellently, as had Heraldo. Arcturus didn't get a chance to really shine, but it was obvious that he was holding back. And as for himself... well... Net Fly's performance was a mixed bag. On one hand, he managed to make up for his shortcomings by sheer dint of effort... on the otherhand, however, that same amount of effort proved disasterous a moment later. After feeling his muscles relax a bit, he took a deep breath and stood straight and looked around. Going to Marcus, Net Fly apologized, scratching the back of his head "Hey, senior... sorry about that before, I..." looking back, half in embarassment, half in contemplation, he said "... I guess I wasn't really paying attention, and got carried away. I'll try not to let that happen again." Net Fly was sure that even if he somehow had 'miraculously' hit Arcturus during that misfire, the hit probably wouldn't faze him at all. But that was not the point; even the most tallented superhero can miss from time to time, but not by such a big margin. If it hadn't been Arcturus, it would be anotherone, someone who couldn't withstand blows as well as Arcturus, maybe even a civilian.
  25. Net Fly followed Glow and Arcturus, who had started to pile up on the now lone standing Doombot. He made a run towards the robot, concentrating sonic power in his fists, and swung for it, but in his eagerness to finish the robot, he put too much power and thanks to the momentum, his rapid punches went too wide; a punch almost flew at Arcturus, and Net Fly had to try his all in order to avoid getting the senior hit. What the... how did I miss? Net Fly thought increduly, as he regained his pacing and composure ... I went all in and messed my chance... stupid rookie mistake.
