  1. Yves was answered with a groan. "Call 'e ...Catherine..." Catherine winced as she rubbed her head, before trying to lift herself up and gasping in pain as her stabbed leg gave out from under her. "Ow, ****, my leg!" She looked down for a moment, before wincing again as she wished she hadn't. "Ow... okay... bloody hell, that thing went right through my powers. I... don't think I'll be walking out of here." Then, she looked at Larrakite's corpse, sobering. "At least I'm aware of it. At least Newman's down. Someone needs to contact Huntsman, he's... got the contact details for most of us if there's a death in action. Um. Ah..." Vectir looked at the two freed Omegadrones. "I'm going to need a lift. Might..." Catherine trailed off, sucking in her breath as she shifted. "Ow." She breathed out, settling down. "Some bloody victory."
  2. As a note- while I have this down to get approvals, I'm well aware that my PL10 slot is currently occupied by Vector. As she's very close to being archived, Fox suggested I post here so the approval process can happen, then when Vector gets archived then Memorial can be moved straight in to the PC bank.
  3. Player Name: horngeek Character Name: Memorial Power Level: 10 (153/156PP) Trade-Offs: +/-0 Attack / +/-0 Damage, +/-0 Defense / +/-0 Toughness Unspent Power Points: 3 Progress To Bronze Status: 6/30 In Brief: Robotic Hero sent as a last memorial and warning from a murdered people. Alternate Identity: Kyla Han’denor Identity: Public Birthplace: Belran V Occupation: ? Affiliations: Nona as yet Family: None remaining Description: Age: Been 'conscious' 27 years total. She doesn't know how long she's been floating in space unconscious. Apparent Age: 25 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Closest Earth equivalent to her features would probably be Irish. Height: 5'4" Weight: 150lb (large parts of her weight are offloaded into extradimensional pockets, but she's still significantly heavier than her build and height would suggest) Eyes: Red Hair: Orange Power Descriptions: For the most part, Memorial's powers are internal rather than external- the inhabitants of the Belran system grew to be masters of extradimensional technology, and her body technically contains devices that would most likely be seen on battleship of other races. On the other hand, most of these devices are damaged- and while she has self-repair systems, they’re working overtime trying to repair the damage already caused, with not much capability to fix any additional damage Memorial may take. At the moment, she is capable of both sub-light and faster-than-light flight. In addition, she is far, far stronger than her appearance suggests, as well as more capable of taking damage. Her other systems are too damaged to use right now. History: The Lor aren't the only civilisation to have been 'seeded' from Earth by the Preservers- hundreds of worlds were seeded as a whole, some still discovered by explorers from time to time. One of them was seeded on the fourth planet of the Belran system, in what is now known as the Perseus Arm. As their society developed, they forged ahead in the scientific areas realtively quickly, and by the 16th century AD, they had a multi-star system civilisation, that had made contact with its immediate neighbours for some time, and was truly starting to find its feet. In time, they might have become a major power on the galactic stage, or possibly become a part of the Lor republic. If it wasn’t for the Communion. Rarely among the Communion’s victims, the Belran actually had a suspicion that something was coming for them- they received reports that other civilisations further out had vanished, contact being lost suddenly and without warning. Eventually, a ship appeared from one of the vanished systems, the crew driven half-mad and raving about mechanical monsters from the edge of space. The Belran started to react immediately. Whatever the threat was, at the rate it was spreading, they had a couple of years to prepare. Scientists and engineered worked to try and and invent new technologies among several avenues, hoping to develop new weapons that might give them a chance, at least. One of these potential weapons was named after an ancient order of warriors who had protected scholars in ages past- in English, the closest translation would be Paladins. The Paladin project was a proposal to use highly advanced implants, combined with the extradimensional techology the Belran were known for, to create warriors of enormous amounts of power, potentially able to go toe-to-toe with a battleship. What they lacked was a volunteer- while the military would, of course, be the recipients of the technology, for the prototype they didn’t want to risk a soldier. So, Kyla Han’denor, one of the scientists on the project, volunteered to be the initial test subject. The rather extensive operations and tests started… and proceeded on schedule. Every step was accounted for and tested to perfection, the process scheduled to take one solar year of Belran IV. And so it did. The main problem was… the projections were wrong. The Communion arrived well before it was believed they would, just after the Paladin implants were fully finalised and ready to roll out. Overall… the Belran were more prepared than many. It was not enough. They fought… and steadily lost to the mechanical horrors. Kyla went out to fight, of course- she couldn’t do anything else with the fate of her people at stake. The Communion could be beaten, and for every moment they bought, the people back home could figure out new methods of fighting them. Hopefully. Of course, the Communion didn’t limit themselves to open combat- brainwashed saboteurs and other plants steadily increased the danger. Eventually, the Belran command were forced to admit that they could not beat back the Communion as they were. So, a new strategy was formed. A small group would flee, try to find a civilisation that might have a better chance… and warn them of the oncoming threat. The dangers of the Communion, and as much as they knew of them. Kyla was chosen to be one of them, and as much as she didn’t want to, she knew she was one of the best choices- the Paladin implants gave her a good chance of surviving however long it took to find someone. The escape was… not a clean getaway, though. The Communion pursued them, and although the ship got away, Kyla and the ship were both heavily damaged, the rest of the crew was killed, and now the ship- and the one survivor of a murdered civilisation- drift in the deep of space... Personality & Motivation: Memorial… doesn’t behave exactly like you might expect, from someone who’s suffered through as much tragedy as she has. She isn’t as cheerful as the young woman who volunteered to be the ‘test subject’ for the Paladin implants, but she’s determined not to fall into depression- that would be an insult to her people’s memory as much as ignoring them would be. She’s serious most of the time, with a burning need to stop the Communion, but she makes sure she still has room to feel joy at the fact that there’s still hope. Overall, she’s fairly personable, and trying to fit into her new home. Powers & Tactics: All of Memorial's powers are a result of the Paladin implants, a series of wide-ranging cybernetics that cause her to blur the line between cyborg and robot- she views herself as the former, but even she admits that by this point, it's more because she was once an unaugmented person. The implants themselves use extradimensional technology to allow a power output that should be equivalent to many race's battleships to be packed into body of human size. Most of her systems, when activated, have remarkably little external evidence. After all, most are internal anyway. Her flight leaves a trail of rapidly-disintegrating orange energy (which is, fortunately, harmless), which intensifies when she activates her above-light systems, and when she fires her lasers, the same orange energy appears around the hand that the laser is fired from, acting as a kind of focusing 'chamber'. But otherwise, there's remarkably little evidence of her powers to the naked eye. In terms of tactics... Memorial doesn't do anything too complex. She prefers to fight at range, and will switch the energy generated by her reactor as needed- often coming to an almost complete stop just before firing. This is the one major weakness in her tactics right now, and she's not entirely happy with it, but her reactors don't exactly provide much spare energy right now. Complications: Last Daughter of Belran: Memorial is the last survivor of a murdered civilisation, and there are several implications involved for this. In particular, certain entities might be particuarly interested in her. Memorial to a Murdered Race: On that note, this also does put a large amount of emotional pressure on Memorial. She feels like it's her responsibility, to a certain degree, to display what she felt was the best of her planet's culture, and this could potentially clash with other goals or cause a cultural clash. (Will expand on the Belran culture in another post, I've got some ideas primarily surrounding how they viewed the pursuit of knowledge- in particular, someone trying to outright prevent research in an area is likely to push her sensibilities. 5. Well, I could certainly put Stronghold into A Little Friendly Competition...
  6. Um. Just checking with everyone, do you guys want to keep this rolling, or just let it lie? It hasn't seen any posts for a while...
  7. Vector nodded. "Water's fine. I don't like to drink while on the job of any type." She listened to Silvia's explanation, nodding. "I get what you're saying, and I have no desire to keep Terminus technology on earth." Her expression darkened somewhat at the reminder. "Not after the harm it's caused this world, or Mu-" The superheroine broke off for a moment. "Anyway, I'd rather see the stuff gone than stored. Couldn't we throw it in the sun or something, get rid of the bloody stuff?" Vector sipped at the provided water as she looked out a view port. "Huh. That place gets raided by the police pretty reguarly from what I remember. They must get warning or something before the raids, if they're able to conceal the sort of stuff we found out about. Let's see... if we don't want him to run off, we need to get in there quietly." Thinking, Vector looked up. "Actually, do you have any holographic projectors or something like that? Just walk in through the front door disguised as friends on a night out. It is a bar, after all."
  8. Haukea won't think of it, no.
  9. Stronghold sighed in relief, keeping her bind up on the statue. "Well, that was a thing. Is anyone hurt?" She walked over to Ice Age, giving Gene a slightly disapproving look at the kick. "Nice take-down, um... sorry, I don't know anyone's names here. I'm Stronghold." The ring on her finger gleamed slightly as she looked at the... well, boy, really. Not too far from her own age, she thought. Then Gene's comment made her frown in thought. Wait a second... "Um... I know you're just saying it as a turn of phrase... but he might have a drug of some sort in him."
  10. Stronghold's eyes narrowed as the two ice statues turned their attention on the crowd- she had to admit, she was worried about her sister... of course, even if she wasn't, this couldn't be allowed. The Orange Ring shone brightly as she brought her right hand up in a fist, pointing it at the further away of the two statues. "You. Stop." And the earth shook briefly, before stone slabs rose upwards, slamming around the statue and binding it tight- preventing it from moving towards the crowd. Or at all, really. If it was a person, Haukea would have done something more delicate... and less likely to cause injury. These, however, seemed very temporary. So, she didn't have to hold back.
  11. Stronghold... hmm. She'll try a Bind on one of the two going after the civilians. Result of 13.
  12. Let's see... okay, Ice Minions next, then my turn.
  13. Vector conveyed the information to Stormbreaker as they traveled, thinking. "This doesn't all add up to me, though. What do you know about those weapons, anyway?" Flying on an honest spaceship was certainly an experience for the Australian superheroine, although it was tempered both by the situation and the fact that... well. Stormbreaker had been a bit patronising towards the locals since she was here. Left a bad taste in Vector's mouth, although she was careful not to show it. No use in aggravating their ally for this.
  14. Congrats, Sand! Just so you guys know, I will be away this coming weekend (with phone access, but I'm trying to keep my bills... somewhat lower), and then I'll be away (going to New Caledonia) over most of Aussie school holidays (so, there's the coming week and then school holidays for the next two). That, I certainly won't have phone access for.
  15. Vector smiled at Silvia. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Captain. It'll be a pleasure to work together." She looked at the weapons. "According to the other two men- who've been very helpful- they were told that the weapons were being smuggled out of Australia to remove them from the reach of the Omega Mob. I'm pretty sure they don't really do high-tech weapons, though." The heroine frowned behind her mask, thinking for a moment. "How did you know that the weapons were here, by the way? Tracking them by their energy signature, or just noticing the fight and the firing of one of them?"
  16. Initiative part 2: Result of 21
  17. Vector sighed. "Look, no offence, but I can't just hand them over just on your say-so for any number of reasons- they're evidence of a crime, I don't know on what authority this ordinance is based, so on. On the other hand, I don't think anyone in law enforcement wants this stuff to stay in Australia- but we'd prefer to find the source and shut it down, not just remove this shipment and then find out that there's more on the streets or wherever. That said, if this operation's shut down entirely, we'll see." She watched Silva carefully, looking for any signs that the... Captain... would try to push the issue. "Anyway, I'm Vector. It's a pleasure to meet you, Captain..."
  18. Well, I'll save the Hero Points, then. I'll get a post up.
  19. Oh, right. Whoops.
  20. ...let's see what Vector's Dynamic Array was shifted to last... Okay, it was last shifted all the way into Toughness, so the Grapple hits. Is there anything I need to roll here...
  21. Wait. What. Vector's eyes widened slightly behind her mask, as she stared at the Omega Boss, then narrowed in thought. The reports of Grue were fake. That meant either a distraction... or a trap. Either way, they needed answers and they needed them right now, because this had become a lot bigger than a stolen sword. Or perhaps it was all the same thing, but either way... Vector stormed forwards, heading towards Leigh Newman. "Explain, now. What the bloody hell do you have planned, Newman? What needed the majority of Aussie superheroes in Perth?"
  22. Hmmm. Stronghold will fling a Blast at Ice Age, coming in from the side. http://orokos.com/roll/175229: Result of 13.
  23. Vector simply stared at the Omega Boss. Twenty years he'd been hiding in her homeland. Well, not hiding exactly, which made it even worse. He'd hardly been closed about the whole Omega thing, either. Maybe people had just assumed it was a stupid act to look tough. Either way, it was an oversight that'd been going on for far too long- and it needed to stop. Tonight. Her expression turned to a glare as she spoke up. "Why the bloody hell would you continue to work for the Terminus? I mean, sure, crazy, but..." She shrugged. "Either way, this is where it ends, Newman or whatever your real name is."
